  • In this study, I wished to forecast damage district by tsunami's occurrence. For this, analyzed tsunami that can happen in our country's neighborhood sea area using past data, and established tsunami's scenario by imagination with analysis result. I created 3D topographical model about study area and analyzed inundation area by achieving simulation by scenario. Also, result of simulation does overlay with digital map and manufactured imagination inundation map. This study result may offer as basic data for operation of tsunami's forecast/alarm system and making of disaster prevention policy.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and types of contemporary houses. This study deals with single-unit Korean houses designed by architects, which are included in architectural periodicals and books published since 1990. This study uses three analysis criteria: general characteristics of the house, hierarchical order of the plan and planning elements of houses. These criteria are derived from preceding studies and typological and topographical theories on houses. As the results of this study, the types of contemporary houses's plan are obtained from the perspective of plan's shape, hierarchical space relationship and spatial organization. Ten types corresponding to the plan shape are proposed. And eleven types of hierarchical space relationship are made and six spatial organization plan types are shown in this paper.

  • Recently, coastal structures have been built to protect coastal areas. However, if a tidal wave caused by an earthquake hits the coast, it would cause catastrophic damages. It is important to analyze the basics and the characteristics of a tsunami to reduce damages caused by natural disasters. In this study, a tsunami passing over different topographical changes is simulated with VOF method based on FVM(Finite Volume Method). The reduction of both scale and velocity is accomplished by similarity analysis, and an initial energy is generated by increasing the water level as needed to create a tsunami as if it is caused by a crustal movement. It is found that the present method is appropriate to simulate the tsunami with its mechanism.

  • This study aimed at analyze the Regional Information of Geumsan-gun, Chung-Nam, Korea. The study area, the Geumsan-gun, is located in $35^{\circ}57'{\sim}36^{\circ}17'N$, $127^{\circ}19'{\sim}127^{\circ}39'E$. The Landforms, and Drainage network were analyzed from topographical maps on 1:25,000 & 1:50,000 and field survey. The Climate, Population, Economy, Transportation and etc. were analyzed from regional statistics. The results are as follows: The Centripetal forces of unit areas are not powerful because Geumsan-gun located contiguity with Daejeon metropolitan city. The accessibility of Geumsangun is good and is available for a site of specialized agriculture area.

  • Since Jeju island has depended a water resource on the underground water because of a poor development of the surface flow, Jeju island is in need of the surface resource development to prevent the future shortage of the underground water due to excessive development and use of it. The study shows that the SWAT model(continuous rainfall-runoff model) is applied to estimate the outflow in the drainage watershed area, where it has been urbanized through the change of the land, such as a tourism development, cultivation, housing, and impervious layer road development. Near watershed area in Jeju island, weather and topographical SWAT input data were collected, and compared the outflow change of past and present.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and from field surveys. Topographical and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The factors chosen that influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature and distance from drainage, all from the topographic database; lithology and distance from lineament, taken from the geologic database; land use from TM satellite images; and the vegetation index value from SPOT satellite images. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by logistic regression model. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data and compared with probabilistic model. The validation results showed that the logistic regression model is better prediction accuracy than probabilistic model.

  • Since mountainous area has access restrictions for field work, assessors need to establish a conceptual model of the contamination prior to the field investigation. In this study we established a conceptual model of the contamination based on site inspection and geological survey, followed by the field investigation for the petroleum spill site. In the conceptual model, we estimated that tile contamination should have spread by groundwater and topographical characteristics within the top soil layer. The spread of contamination through rock was not considered in the conceptual model due to impermeable characteristics of metasyenite. The contaminated environmental media of the petroleum spill site include soil and groundwater. According to the analysis result of the contamination, the volume of contaminated soil is estimated approximately 4, 150 cubic meters (7, 055 ton) with most contaminants existing along the groundwater flow within top soil layer.

  • Erosion and landslide cause serious damage to forest areas. As a consequence, partial or complete destruction of vegetation occurs, which leads to many cascading problems. In this study, an attempt has been made to identify the forest areas, which are under different risk categories of erosion and landslide, in part of Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu. Relevantthematic maps were generated from satellite data, topographical maps, primary and secondary data and weights to each map were assigned appropriately. Weighted overlay analysis was carried out to identify the erosionprone forest areas. The result of erosion and landslide prone model reveals that 4712 ha(17%) of forest area is under high risk category and 15879 ha(58.65%) isunder medium risk category. The results of spatial modeling would be very much useful to the forest officials and conservationist to plan for effective conservation.

  • Wake downstream of an object in the stratified flow has been of long-standing interest in fluid dynamics because of its similarity to geophysical flow over topographical terrains and more recently, concerns about the wake left behind a body moving through the ocean thermocline. Decades of studies of geophysical flow have unveiled that the flow downstream of obstacles in stratified flow consists of attached wake and strong internal waves, or separated, fluctuating wake and persistent late wakes, all of which depend on the flow conditions. Among unique and interesting characteristics of the stratified flow past obstacles is the generation of coherent vortex structure in the late wake far downstream of the object. Without the density stratification, the flow field downstream becomes undisturbed after relatively fast diminishing of the near wake. However, no matter how small the stratification is, the flow field downstream self-develops coherent vortex structures even after diminishing of the near wake. This paper present a computational approach to simulate the generation mechanism of the coherent vortex and analysis of the vortical structure.
