The aim of this study was to provide basic guidelines for conservation and management of endangered plants in the national parks of Korea. Iris dichotoma Pall. (Iridaceae), which is a popular garden plant, is considered a second-class endangered species by Korean government and it is listed as a EN (Endangered) species in Red Data Book of Korea. We analyzed ecological conditions of I. dichotoma habitats based on vegetation properties and soil characteristics. This species which is known to inhabit in grassland adjacent to the ocean of lowlands slope and its population was located at an elevation of 8 m to 11 m. In the study sites, the mean of soil organic matter, total nitrogen and soil pH were 6.16%, 0.234% and 5.39 respectively. Additionally, the genetic variation and structure of three populations were assessed using ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeat) markers. The genetic diversity of I. dichotoma (P = 59.46%, H = 0.206, S = 0.310) at the species level was relatively high. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed 82.1% of the total genetic diversity was occurred in within populations and 17.9% variation among populations. Lastly, we developed predicted distribution model based on climate and topographic factors by applying SDMs (Species Distribution Models). Consequently, current status of I. dichotoma habitats is limited with natural factors such as the increase of the coverage rate of the herbs due to ecological succession. Therefore, it is essential to establish in situ and ex situ conservation strategies for protecting natural habitats and to require exploring potential and alternative habitats for reintroduction.

The distribution of tidal current and tidal induced residual current, topographical eddies and tidal residual circulation in the waters surrounding the Geumo Island-An Island channel were identified through numerical model experiments and vorticity balance analysis. Tidal current flows southwest at flood and northeast at ebb along the channel. The maximum flow velocity was about 100-150 cm/s in neap and spring tide. During the flood current in the neap tide, clockwise small eddies were formed in the waters west of Sobu Island and southwest of Daebu Island, and a more grown eddy was formed in the southern waters of Geumo Island in the spring tide. A small eddy that existed in the western waters of Chosam Island during the ebb in neap tide appeared to be a more grown topographical eddy in the northeastern waters of Chosam Island in spring tide. Tidal ellipses were generally reciprocating and were almost straight in the channel. These topographical eddies are made of vorticity caused by coastal friction when tidal flow passes through the channel. They gradually grow in size as they are transported and accumulated at the end of the channel. When the current becomes stronger, the topographic eddies move, settle, spread to the outer sea and grow as a counterclockwise or clockwise tidal residual circulation depending on the surrounding terrain. In the waters surrounding the channel, there were counterclockwise small tidal residual circulations in the central part of the channel, clockwise from the northeast end of the channel to northwest inner bay of An Island, and clockwise and counterclockwise between Daebu Island and An Island. The circulation flow rate was up to 20-30 cm/s. In the future, it is necessary to conduct an experimental study to understand the growth process of the tidal residual circulation in more detail due to the convergence and divergence of seawater around the channel.
The Cretaceous Eumsung (Eumseong) Basin is a pull-apart basin, formed along a series of the Gongju strike-slip faults trending NE-SW. The Nongdari-Meer forest of the Gugokri area in the southwestern part of the basin is comprised of thick purple mudstone, intercalating conglomerate, pebbly sandstone, and green mudstone beds. The succession mainly consists of seven sedimentary facies: stratified conglomerate (C2), conglomerate encased in siltstone (CE), stratified pebbly sandstone encased in siltstone (PSE2), purple sandy siltstone (Zp), green sandy siltstone (Zg), purple mudstone (Mp), and green mudstone (Mg). Sedimentary environment is mainly indicative of alluvial-plain setting in an alluvial-to-lacustrine sedimentary system, developed in the southwestern part of the basin. Geological survey was fulfilled in succession of the Gugokri sedimentary system using 1:5000 topographic map, which resulted in a geological route map. This study newly suggested that there be fluvial systems showing ENE and NNE trends in the study area, based on data of palaeocurrent direction and sedimentary characteristics in new outcrops of the forest. The study also revised the precedent sedimentation model of the Gugokri system.

Autonomous driving of drone indoor must move along a narrow path and overcome other factors such as lighting, topographic characteristics, obstacles. In addition, it is difficult to operate the drone in the hallway because of insufficient texture and the lack of its diversity comparing with the complicated environment. In this paper, we study an autonomous drone navigation using Convolution Neural Network(CNN) in indoor environment. The proposed method receives an image from the front camera of the drone and then steers the drone by predicting the next path based on the image. As a result of a total of 38 autonomous drone navigation tests, it was confirmed that a drone was successfully navigating in the indoor environment by the proposed method without hitting the walls or doors in the hallway.
The mission of the high-resolution camera for the lunar exploration is to provide 3D topographic information. It enables us to find the appropriate landing site or to control accurate landing by the short distance stereo image in real-time. In this paper, the ground verification and analysis system using the multi-application stereo camera to develop the high-resolution camera for the lunar exploration are proposed. The mission test items and test plans for the mission requirement are provided and the test results are analyzed by the ground verification and analysis system. For the realistic simulation for the lunar orbiter, the target area that has similar characteristics with the real lunar surface is chosen and the aircraft flight is planned to take image of the area. The DEM is extracted from the stereo image and compose three dimensional results. The high-resolution camera mission requirements for the lunar exploration are verified and the ground data analysis system is developed.

Basin-scale motions in a stratified lake rely on interactions of spatially and temporally varying wind force, bathymetry, density variation, and earth's rotation. These motions provide a major driving force for vertical and horizontal mixing of inorganic and organic materials, dissolved oxygen, storm water and floating debris in stratified lakes. In Lake Tahoe, located between California and Nevada, USA, basin-scale circulations are obviously important because they are directly associated with the fate of the suspended particulate materials that degrade the clarity of the lake. A three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, ELCOM, was applied to Lake Tahoe to investigate the underlying mechanisms that determine the characteristics of basin-scale circulations. Numerical experiments were designed to examine the relative effects of various mechanisms responsible for the horizontal circulations for two different seasons, summer and winter. The unique double gyre, a cyclonic northern gyre and an anti-cyclonic southern gyre, occurred during the winter cooling season when wind stress curl, stratification, and Coriolis effect were all incorporated. The horizontal structure of the upwelling and downwelling formed due to basin-scale internal waves found to be closely related to the rotating direction of each gyre. In the summer, the spatially varying wind field and the Coriolis effect caused a dominant anti-cyclonic gyre to develop in the center of the lake. In the winter, a significant wind event excited internal waves, and a persistent (2 week long) cyclonic gyre formed near the upwelling zone. Mechanism of the persistent cyclonic gyre is explained as a geostrophic circulation ensued by balancing of the baroclinc pressure gradient (or baroclinic instability) and Coriolis effect. Topographic effect, examined by simulating a flat bathymetry with constant depth of 300m, was found to be significant during the winter cooling season but not as significant as the wind curl and baroclinic effects.

The main objective of this paper is to classify properties of the locational environment for each debris type by calculating likelihood ratio based on the correlation between the distributions for each type of debris landform. A total of 8 thematic maps, like as elevation, slope, aspect, curvature, topographic wetness index (TWI), soil drainage, geology, and landcover including with GIS spatial information generally used in this type of debris landform analysis. The results of this study showed that the block stream had a high likelihood ratio compared to talus in areas with relatively high elevation; and concerning slope, the block stream had a high likelihood ratio in a relatively low region than talus. Concerning aspect, a clear correlation could not be analyzed for each debristype, and concerning curvature, the block stream displayed a developed slope on the more concave valley than the talus. Analysis concerning TWI, the block stream displayed a higher likelihood ratio in wider sections than talus, and concerning soil drainage, the talus and block stream both displayed a high likelihood ratio in regions with well-drained soil. The talus displayed a high likelihood ratio in the order of metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and granite, while the block stream displayed a high likelihood ratio in the order of volcanic rocks, granite, and sedimentary rocks. In addition, concerning landcover, the likelihood ratio had the most concentrated distributed compared to natural bare land only concerning talus. Based on the likelihood ratio result, it can be used as basic data for extracting the possible areas of distribution for each debris type through the GIS spatial integration method.
Purpose: This study was performed to assess and describe the imaging features of 40 cases of Stafne bone defects (SBDs) on computed tomographic (CT) examinations. Materials and Methods: This study collected data, including age and sex, from 40 patients with SBDs who underwent CT exams. The imaging features of the SBDs were assessed in terms of their location, average size, the relationship of their contour with the cortical plate of the lingual mandible, bone margins, degree of internal density, shape, topographic relationship between the defect and the mandibular edge, the distance from the SBD to the base of the mandible, and the Ariji classification (type I, II, and III). Results: The average age was 57.3 years(range, 28-78 years), and the patients were predominantly male (70%). In all cases (100%), the posterior unilateral lingual SBD variant was observed. Within the Ariji classification, type I was the most common (60%). Among the most frequently observed radiographic characteristics were thick sclerotic bone margin across the entire defect contour, completely hypointense internal content, an oval shape, and continuity with the mandibular base with discontinuity of the mandibular edge. Conclusion: This study showed that posterior SBDs could present with an oval or rounded shape, complete hypodensity, and thick sclerotic margins. Likewise, SBDs could appear almost anywhere, with minor differences from the classic SBD appearance. It is fundamental for dental practitioners to know the imaging features of SBDs, since they are diagnosed primarily based on imaging.
Background: To suggest a reasonable isometric point based on the anatomical consistency of interosseous membrane (IOM) attachment in association with topographic characteristics of the interosseous crests, the footprints of the central band (CB) of the IOM on the radial and ulnar interosseous crests (RIC and UIC) were measured. Methods: We measured the distance from the CB footprints from each apex of both interosseous crests in 14 cadavers and the angles between the forearm axis of rotation (AOR) and the distal slopes of the RIC and UIC in 33 volunteers. Results: The CB footprints lay on the downslope of both interosseous crests with its upper margin on average 3-mm proximal from the RIC's apex consistently in the radial length, showing normality (p>0.05), and on average 16-mm distal from the UIC's apex on the ulna without satisfying normality (p<0.05). The average angle between the UIC's distal slope and the AOR was 1.3°, and the RIC's distal slope to the AOR was 14.0°, satisfying the normality tests (p>0.05), and there was no side-to-side difference in both forearms (p<0.05). Conclusions: The CB attached to the downslope just distal to the RIC's apex constrains the radius to the UIC that coincides with the AOR of the forearm circumduction, maintaining itself both isometrically and isotonically.

The AERMET, the AERMOD meteorological preprocessing program, mainly used for environmental impact assessment and Integrated Environmental Permit System (IEPS) in Korea, has not considered the land covers characterasitics, and used only the past meteorological data format CD-144. In this study, two results of AERMET application considering CD-144 format and ISHD format, being used internationally, were compared. Also, the atmospheric dispersion characteristics were analyzed with consideration of land cover. In the case of considered the CD-144 format, the actual wind speed was not taken into account in the weak wind (0.6~0.9m/s) and other wind speed due to the unit conversion problem. The predicted concentration considering land cover data was up to 387% larger depending on the topographic and emission conditions than without consideration of land cover. In conclusion, when using meteorological preprocessing program in AERMOD modelling, AERMET, with ISHD format, land cover characterasitics in the area should be considered.
