  • This paper presents the performance and problems in analysis method and testing system of Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) method, in measuring two - dimensional in-plane displacement. The anyalysis result of measurement by ESPE is quite comparable to that tof measurement by strain gauge method. This implies that the method of ESPE is a very effective tool in non-contact two-dimensional in-plane strain analysis. But there is a controversal point, measurment error. This error is discussed to be affected not by ESPE method itself, but by its analysis scheme of the interference fringe, where the first-order interpolation has been applied to the points of strain measured. In this case, it is turned out that the more errors would be occurred in the large interval of fringe. And so this paper describes a computer method for drawing when the height is available only for some arbitrary collection of points. The method is based on a distance-weighted, last- squares approximation technique with the weight varying with the distance of the data points.

  • In this paper, to develop a smart CAD/CAM system for systematically performing from the 3-D solid shape design of products to the CNC cutting operation of products by a machining center, a B-Rep solid modeler is realized based on the half edge data structure. Because the B-Rep solid modeler has the various capabilities related to the solid definition functions such as the creation operation of primitives and the translational and rotational sweep operation, the solid manipulation functions such as the split operation and the Boolean set operation, and the solid inversion function for effectively using the data structure, the 3-D solid shape of products can be easily designed and constructed. Also, besides the automatic generation of CNC code, the B-Rep solid modeler can be used as a powerful tool for realizing the automatic generation of finite elements, the interference check between solids, the structural design of machine tools and robots and so on.

  • The vibration and buckling characteristics of the capsule for fuel irradiation test are studied. The natural frequencies of the capsule in air and under water are obtained by modal testing and finite element (FE) analysis using ANSYS program, and accelerations with flow are measured to estimate the compatibility with the operation requirement of the HANARO reactor. The experimental fundamental frequencies of the capsule in the x and z direction are 8.5 Hz and 8.75 Hz in air, and 7.5 Hz and 7.75 Hz under water, respectively. The maximum amplitude of accelerations under the normal operating condition is measured as 11.0 m/s$^2$ that is within the allowable vibrational limit(18.99 m/s$^2$) of the reactor structure. Also, the maximum displacement at 100% flow is calculated as 0.13 mm which is not interference with other nearby structures. FE analysis results show that the natural frequencies are found to be similar to those of the modal testing when three supporting parts are considered as simply supported conditions. From the buckling analysis, when the loading tool is applied, the critical buckling load of the capsule is 233 N.

  • Large and complex structures are being built now-a-days and, they are required to be functional even under extreme loading and environmental conditions. In order to meet the safety and maintenance demands, there is a need to build sensors integrated structural system, which can sense and provide necessary information about the structural response to complex loading and environment. Sophisticated tools have been developed for the design and construction of civil engineering structures. However, very little has been accomplished in the area of monitoring and rehabilitation. The employment of appropriate sensor is therefore crucial, and efforts must be directed towards non-destructive testing techniques that remain functional throughout the life of the structure. Fiber optic sensors are emerging as a superior non-destructive tool for evaluating the health of civil engineering structures. Flexibility, small in size and corrosion resistance of optical fibers allow them to be directly embedded in concrete structures. The inherent advantages of fiber optic sensors over conventional sensors include high resolution, ability to work in difficult environment, immunity from electromagnetic interference, large band width of signal, low noise and high sensitivity. This paper brings out the potential and current status of technology of fiber optic sensors for civil engineering applications. The importance of employing fiber optic sensors for health monitoring of civil engineering structures has been highlighted. Details of laboratory studies carried out on fiber optic strain sensors to assess their suitability for civil engineering applications are also covered.

  • Defense Systems Test Center in ADD supports increasingly various missile test requirements such as higher altitude event, multi target operation and low-altitude, high velocity target tracking. In this paper, we have proposed the development of instrumentation radar tracking status simulator based on virtual reality. This simulator can predict the tracking status and risk of failure using several modeling algorithms. It consists of target model, radar model, environment model and several algorithms includes the multipath interference effects. Simulation results show that the predict tracking status and signal are similar to the test results of the live flight test. This simulator predicts and analyze all of the status and critical parameters such as the optimal site location, servo response, optimal flight trajectory, LOS(Line of Sight). This simulator provides the mission plan with a powerful M&S tool to rehearse and analyze instrumentation tracking radar measurement plan for live flight test at DSTC(Defense Systems Test Center).

  • In this paper, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with a precoder is considered in the transmit-correlated Rayleigh channels. We specifically target the MIMO system employing the minimum mean square error receivers. Based on random matrix theory, we first present a direct and generalized formulation for deriving a probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Then, we derive the accurate closed-form SINR PDFs for a small number of transmit and receive antennas. Based on the SINR PDFs, tight closed-form approximations of the symbol error rate (SER) are derived. Our analysis suggests that the SER approximations can be used to accurately estimate the error probabilities or as a useful tool for the system design.

  • There are varying opinions about theories that the middle ear of Neonates is filled with mucous or other Material that interference with normal mobility of the middle ear system. DeDMon reported on the acoustic reflex as a tool for Neonatal screening, and Keith investigated the Middle ear function of Neonates during first few hours of life with an Electroacoustic impedance bridge. There are no reports on Neonstes in Impedance Audiometry in Korea. We tested 100 Neonates less than 24 hours old and this paper is dealt with its study related with tympanogram, static compliance and acoustic reflex.

  • This paper describes a second-generation dual sine-grid surface encoder for 2-D position measurements. The surface encoder consisted of a 2-D grid with a 2-D sinusoidal pattern on its surface, and a 2-D angle sensor that detected the 2-D profile of the surface grid The 2-D angle sensor design of previously developed first-generation surface encoders was based on geometric optics. To improve the resolution of the surface encoder, we fabricated a 2-D sine-grid with a pitch of $10{\mu}m$. We also established a new optical model for the second-generation surface encoder that utilizes diffraction and interference to generate its measured values. The 2-D sine-grid was fabricated on a workpiece by an ultra precision lathe with the assistance of a fast tool servo. We then performed a UV-casting process to imprint the sine-grid on a transparent plastic film and constructed an experimental setup to realize the second-generation surface encoder. We conducted tests that demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed surface encoder model.

  • Some computational approaches are needed for clarifying RNAi sequences, because it takes much time and endeavor that almost of RNAi sequences are verified by experimental data. Incorrectness of RNAi mechanism and other unaware factors in organism system are frequently faced with questions regarding potential use of RNAi as therapeutic applications. Our massive parallelized pair alignment scoring between dsRNA in Genebank and expressed sequence tags (ESTs) in Caenorhabditis elegans Genome Sequencing Projects revealed that this provides a useful tool for the prediction of RNAi induced cosuppression details for practical use. This pair alignment scoring method using high performance computing exhibited some possibility that numerous unwanted gene silencing and cosuppression exist even at high matching scores each other. The classifying the relative higher matching score of them based on GO (Gene Ontology) system could present mapping dsRNA of C. elegans and functional roles in an applied system. Our prediction also exhibited that more than 78% of the predicted co-suppressible genes are located in the ribosomal spot of C. elegans.
