  • In contemporary society, it is increasingly common to spend more time indoors. As such, there is a continually growing desire to build comfortable and safe indoor environments. Along with this trend, however, there are some serious indoor-environment challenges, such as the quality of indoor air and Sick House Syndrome. To address these concerns the government implements various systems to supervise and manage indoor environments. For example, green building certification is now compulsory for public buildings. There are three categories of green building certification related to indoor air in Korea: Health-Friendly Housing Construction Standards, Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design(G-SEED), and Indoor Air Certification. The first two types of certification, Health-Friendly Housing Construction Standards and G-SEED, evaluate data in a drawing plan. In comparison, the Indoor Air Certification evaluates measured data. The certification using data from a drawing requires a considerable amount of time compared to other work. A 2D tool needs to be employed to measure the area manually. Thus, this study proposes an automatic assessment process using a Building Information Modeling(BIM) model based on 3D data. This process, using open source Industry Foundation Classes(IFC), exports data for the certification system, and extracts the data to create an Excel sheet for the certification. This is expected to improve the work process and reduce the workload associated with evaluating indoor air conditions.

  • Urban drainage systems are generally designed as open channel flow. The system, however, shows a partially surcharged flow in its body, especially at junctions or manholes. Thus, a special case of this condition needs to be explained as pressurized flow condition for designing the sewer system. This study considered the surcharged manhole flows during an unexpected rainfall event or an excess of design frequency. Overflows from surcharged manholes and urban flooding can occur from the effect of surcharged flows. Thus, sewer systems should be designed with the concept of open channel flow and pressurized flow. Also, energy losses in a manhole need to be considered. The aim of this study is to develop the numerical model which can evaluate the effect of the energy losses at the manhole. The numerical model was verified and compared with hydraulic model and SWMM. The results showed that the water depth of numerical model was in good agreement with hydraulic model at the each manhole. However, the SWMM underestimated the water depth because that model ignored the energy losses at manholes. Thus, the developed numerical model in this study could be a useful tool for the assessment of a conveyance of urban drainage system.

  • The fluid power products are widely used in current industrial area such as automation of products and equipment assembly, high-tech machine tool, aircraft, train, and etc. As the development of industry is in progress, the development of the fluid power products is demanding and it is required in every industrial area. This research proposed a pneumatic system to evaluate displacement accuracy of the pneumatic actuator without external load and to analyze capability of integration of the valve system. The pneumatic system consisted of a combination of pneumatic actuator, four two-port valves, two three-port valves, two pressure valve, a check valve, two proximity sensors, and a program logic controller (PLC). The position controller is based on the PLC connected with the proximity sensors. The maximum air pressure applied for tests was $49.05N/cm^2$ and the displacement accuracy of a stroke was measured using a dial gauge. The supply- and discharge-side of air pressure and the length of the stroke of the pneumatic cylinder were varied The test of the position control of the pneumatic cylinder was carried out 50 times at each supply- and discharge-side air pressure of 24.53/34.34, 29.43/39.24, 34.34/44.15, and $39.24/49.05N/cm^2$ and replicated three times. The accuracy of the displacement of the pneumatic cylinder stroke increased as the supply- and discharge-side of air pressure increased with the stroke length of 133mm. Also the displacement accuracy increased as the stroke length increased with the fixed supply- and discharge-side of air pressure of the pneumatic cylinder as 34.34 and $44.15N/cm^2$, respectively. The most accurate displacement of the pneumatic cylinder was obtained at the supplyand discharge-side of air pressure of 39.24 and $49.05N/cm^2$, respectively, and strokes of 170 and 190mm.

Thus this study, revealing the structure of the meaning, tried to use phenomenal study tool as qualitative research design in order to seek nursing intervention for them. The method of data collection of this study was achieved February, 2000$\sim$August, 2000 through systematic interview, participation and observation from a focus group. The number of each focus group was 3 to 4, and the study analyzed with Giorgi method after selecting total 3 groups with 10 to saturate data, considering of the closeness among group members. The results are as follow; 1) Feeling psychological uneasy : feeling special mood, mysterious thing, tense thing, curious thing, concealing thing 2) Being to someone : receiving unilaterally, giving ahead, attracting attention, being to, being selected unilaterally 3) Feeling like to do together : relying, contacting, being together 4) Accepting another one's self : understanding the partner, taking responsibility for each other, enduring, trusting each other 5) Trying to be best to the partner : physically being pure, mentally being pure, being only one person to the partner, being open to each other, feeling free 6) Harmonizing conditions with conditions : considering appearance, one's family, economic support and so on 7) Making a love without premise of marriage : making a difference between marriage and love 8) Being a difference between men and women : being a different position, being shameful (because of not having a boyfriend), indecent thing 9) Being for a new life : conceiving a new life 10) Being able to have body touch : being able to kiss, being able to sleep together, being able to touch body 11) Being able to make homosexual love : being able to do homosexual love From the above results, right sexual education should deliver the value of sex which exists for life. So we need to develop the Korean-typed sexual education, according to the social and cultural background and reasonable demand level of education subjects. Furthermore we should give systematically connected education through the development of sexual education program by a developmental stage on the sex with broad and dynamic features, revealing different shapes each period of life. Since the members' value by culture is very different, reasonable and healthy sexual education cannot be done through a education program from foreign cultures. Consequently, the development of the study and program on sexual perception of Korean female college students suitable for the Korean cultural situation will be done.

  • For the efficient design of baffled Powdered activated carbon(PAC) contractor, which has been widely used in water treatment plant(WTP) against the algae-related odor problems, a CFD(computational fluid dynamics) program was applied. In order to verify the performance of FLOW-3D program, the previously reported results of tracer tests from a pilot-scale PAC contractor(working volume of 288 liters) were compared to those from FLOW 3D. The results of FLOW-3D simulation were very similar to those from tracer tests conducted with the Pilot-scale PAC contactor. On the other hand, the hydrodynamic characteristics of baffled contractor in the P-WTP were simulated by using FLOW-3D. Simulation results on the distribution of PAC particles showed that there are some stagnant parts in the back side of baffles in which PAC Particles are not present. These stagnant parts might decrease the adsorption capacity of PAC particles. When the baffles were changed to maze-type intra-basin baffling, PAC particles were evenly distributed and the amount of stagnant parts reduced. In conclusion, it is anticipated that FLOW-3D simulation could be a viab1e tool for analyzing the hydrodynamic characteristics of structures used in drinking water treatment plant.

  • In the U.S., utility damages or utility delay caused by conflicts during the underground utility relocation is one of the weighty problem in the construction industry. Also, in domestic case, delay and additional cost caused by underground utility(i.e, electricity, communication, gas, water supply and sewerage) relocation has been happened so that there is an increase of claims for responsibility between owners and contractors. However, there is insufficient survey for the recent circumstance of additional cost for delay and design changes caused by utility relocation and shortage of enough research for solving and analyzing of causes and their ripple effect. This research presents a result of the study about the best practices of FHWA(Federal Highway Administration), SHAs(State Highway Agencies) and the utility companies managing utility relocation. Also, it presents the basic concept of SUE(Subsurface Utility Engineering), the most reliable tool of FHWA presented, and investigates the developing status about SUE in Korea. At the end of this paper, this research proposes a practical and more applicable study about the efficient utility relocation focusing on local industry.

  • At the completion of the construction, various finishing processes are concentrated. This imposes a burden on the on-site manager and imposes on experience based quality control, thereby causing deviations in the quality of construction depending on supervisor or worker's individual competence. In addition, the information related to quality control is frequently scattered in various types of documents such as specifications and drawings, and checkpoints are frequently omitted. It is necessary to provide a tool that can effectively provide the practitioner before or during the inspection work by systematically storing the information related to the defect prevention and linking them in a mutually referential state. This paper proposes an quality inspection support model that can systematically store necessary information on activity or room basis for the quality check of the apartment house finishing work. Establish a defect prevention information base and a information nexus by linking specifications, design standards, checklists, regulations, defect cases, and drawings to the finishing process and the rooms. Based on this, information registration and search interface are presented. It can contribute to securing a certain level of construction quality or more by suggesting a frame that can be utilized by linking various defects prevention information with the focus on closing activity and room.

  • For an optimal design of automotive electric system, it is important to have a reliable modeling tool to predict the charge-discharge behaviors of the automotive battery. In this work, a two-dimensional modeling was carried out to predict the charge-discharge behaviors of a 12-V automotive lead-acid battery. The model accounted for electrochemical kinetics and ionic mass transfer in a battery cell. In order to validate the modeling, modeling results were compared with the experimental data of the charge-discharge behaviors of a lead-acid battery. The discharge behaviors were measured with three different discharge rates of C/5, C/10, and C/20 at operating temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. The batteries were charged with constant current of 30A until the charging voltage reached to a predetermined value of 14.24 V and then the charging voltage was kept constant. The discharge and charge curves from the measurements and modeling were in good agreement. Based on the modeling, the distributions of the electrical potentials of the solid and solution phases, the porosity of the electrodes, and the current density within the electrodes as well as the acid concentration can be predicted as a function of charge and discharge time.

  • An active layer distributed on surface of an extreme cold region causes a frost heave by repeating the freezing and thawing according to the seasonal temperature change. Since the height of frost heave is greatly affected by the thickness of active layer, an accurate evaluation of the thickness of active layer is necessary for the safe design and construction of the infrastructure in the extreme cold region. In this study, dynamic cone penetrometer, which is miniaturized in-situ penetration device, is applied for the evaluation of active layer depth distribution. As the application tests, two dynamic cone penetration tests were conducted on the study sites located in Solomon and Alaska. In addition, ground temperature variations were obtained. As the results of the application tests, the depth of interface between the active layer and the permafrost was evaluated from the difference in dynamic cone penetration indexes of the active layer and the permafrost, and a layer was detected around the interface considered as an ice lens layer. Also, the interface depths between the above zero and the below zero temperature determined from the ground temperature variations correspond with the interface depths evaluated from the dynamic cone penetration tests. This study demonstrates that the dynamic cone penetrometer may be a useful tool for the evaluation of the active layer in the extreme cold region.
