Background: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical effects of complex Korean medicine therapy for tinnitus associated with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety. Case Report: A 52-year-old female patient suffering from tinnitus with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety was treated with acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine. We used the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and a Verbal Numerical Rating Score (VNRS) to assess the patient's symptoms. The administration of the acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine improved the ear fullness, depression and anxiety symptoms. No side effects were observed during the treatment. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that complex Korean medicine therapy, such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, may be effective for the treatment of tinnitus associated with ear fullness, depression, and anxiety.

Objectives : The objective of this paper is to examine the pathology and treatment methods of tinnitus and deafness. Methods : Contents on the ears, pathology and treatment methods of tinnitus and deafness in the Donguibogam were examined. Results & Conclusions : Findings indicate that Kidney jing deficiency and problems of qi metabolism of the Kidney are at the root of tinnitus and deafness pathology. In treatment, once the primary symptoms are managed, the root, which is Kidney deficiency, needs to be improved, together with life style management. In the case of Heart-Kidney disconnection, the Heart must be collected while nurturing jing; in the case of yin deficiency and flaring, ministerial fire must be managed while tonifying jing and blood. If the cause lies in the Lungs and Kidney, they must be tonified, while in cases due to problematic water fluid metabolism, phlegm-fire or exterior pathogens, the Kidney needs to be dealt with even after treating the aforementioned causes.

The Literatural Study on the classification of cause and the effect of Acupuncture and Moxibustion treatment for Tinnitus was studied from the viewpoint of therapeutic acupuncture and moxibustion effect. And the results were as follows: 1. The cause of Tinnitus is divided three parts, The Internal Organs factors, Internal damages, and Exogenous pathogenic factors, in The Nei Jing. 2. The basal meridian of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment were the channels of Shaoyang. 3. The treatment of acupuncture had a rule of Ju Ci.

The objective of this study is to establish the new evaluating method of tinnitus and to evaluate the effect of acupuncture therapy. Fourteen patients with tinnitus were studied. The patients answered the questionnaire designed to identify and describe the subjective symptoms of tinnitus and discomfort in daily life due to tinnitus. After acupuncture therapy, the survey was conducted again among the patients and we evaluated the difference between pre-acupuncture therapy and post-acupuncture therapy. 1. Precipitating factors of tinnitus among the patients group consisted of 14 members were stress, noise, drug, overwork, URI, and otitis media in order. 2. Significant improvements in subjective symptoms of tinnitus and discomfort in daily life after acupuncture therapy were identified among the patient group of 14 members 3. Patient group of 14 members were divided into 2 groups by digestion status: patients who have poor digestion and patients who have good digestion. The patients who have good digestion showed significant improvement both in subjective symptoms of tinnitus and in discomfort in daily life after acupuncture therapy. 4. Patient group of 14 members were divided Into 2 groups by urination and defecation status: patients who have poor urination and defecation and patients who have good urination and defecation. The patients who have good urination and defecation showed significant improvement both in subjective symptoms of tinnitus and in discomfort in daily life after acupuncture therapy. 5. Patient group of 14 members were divided into 2 groups by sleeping status: patients who sleep well and patients who don't sleep well. The patients who sleep well showed significant improvement both in subjective symptoms of tinnitus and in discomfort in daily life after acupuncture therapy. This study shows that the subjective symptoms of tinnitus and discomfort in daily life due to tinnitus are involved in urination and defecation factor, sleep factor, and digestion factor. This study also shows that acupuncture therapy is effective in improving the subjective symptoms of tinnitus and discomfort in daily life due to tinnitus.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to show the clinical effect of Korean Medical Treatments for Tinnitus with Sudden Sensory Neural Hearing Loss. Methods : The patient was treated by Korean Medical Treatments for 10weeks. The effect of treatments on tinnitus was measured with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Korean Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(K-THI). And the effect of treatments on sudden hearing loss was measured by VAS. Results : VAS of Tinnitus was decreased from 10 to 3 points and K-THI score was decreased from 70 to 26 points. VAS of hearing loss was decreased from 9 to 8 points. Conclusions : Korean Medical Treatments are effective on Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a symptom frequently encountered in the E.N.T. clinic and variously described as buzzing, ringing and thumping sound, etc., but the cause, pathogenesis, specific treatment remains to be established through close investigation. In fact, it is not easy to evaluate the treatment efficiency of tinnitus reasonably. However, in this study. we clinically investigated 47 patients who visited E.N.T. department of Kyung Won University Hospital from May. 1996 to May. 1999 and belonged to specific bianzheng(辨證) types of tinnitus classified by bianzheng(辨證), a kind of diagnostic method in order to estimate efficiency of the treatment and give aids to establishing more effective and recognizable treatment method. The result is as follows: 1) In bianzheng(辨證) types of tinnitus, Piweixuruo(脾胃虛弱) was most frequently found, in descending order, Shenjingkuisun(腎精虧損), Ganhuoshangra(肝火上擾), Tanhuoyongjie(痰火壅結). 2) In the treatment efficiency, the type of Piweixuruo(脾胃虛弱) showed the highest, in descending order, Ganhuoshangrao(肝火上擾), Tanhuoyongjie(痰火壅結) and Shenjingkuisun(腎精虧損). 3) The treatment efficiency is shown higher in patients with tinnitus included in other sysmptoms than those with a simple symptom of tinnitus. especially in case of tinnitus accompanied by vertigo, we could get much higher treatment efficiency more than we had expected.

The study was performed to evaluate the effect of oriental medical treatment for objective tinnitus. This clinical study was carried out 1 case with objective tinnitus, who had been treated from 23 June 2004 to 1 september 2004 in the department of acupunture and moxibustion, Gun-San Medical Center. There was improvement in condition of the patient treated by oriental medical treatment. Oriental medical treatment may improve objective tinnitus. Further many studies are required.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to report a significant improvement of Tinnitus with Sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSHL) after treatment with Daehamhyung-tang.Methods : We experienced four cases of tinnitus with SSHL treated by Daehamhyung-tang. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we used the visual analogue scale(VAS)Results : After using Daehamhyung-tang, VAS and clinical symptoms of 3 patients were improved remarkably, but 1 case was no interval change.Conclusion : This study suggests that using Daehamhyung-tang is effective on tinnitus with SSHL.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the three cases of pulsatile tinnitus without any cause improved by acupotomy and acupuncture. Methods: Three patients diagnosed with pulsatile tinnitus with no abnormalities detected on examination were treated with acupotomy and acupuncture. The improvement of symptoms was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS). Results: The visual analogue scale has decreased from 7 to 0, from 5 to 1, and from 6 to 0, respectively. Conclusions: Acupotomy had shown a positive clinical effect in the treatment of the pulsatile tinnitus without any cause in this case reports.

1. Objective: The aim of this study was to report significant improvement of tinnitus and insomnia after treatment with Cheongsimyeonja-tang in a Taeeumin patient with Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss(SSHL) that accompanied with Tinnitus. 2. Method: We measured the hearing recovery. For diagnosis on this case, pure tone audiometry was used. The degree of improvement was evaluated by Siegel's Criteria. Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(THI) were also used to assess tinnitus objectively. 3. Result: There was no improvement in pure tone audiometry by Siegel's Criteria. However, VAS score was decreased from 10 to 1 and THI score was also decreased from 74 to 48. 4. Conclusion: A patient with SSHL, who has little possibility of recovery of hearing loss, was treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang in a short period and significant improvement in tinnitus and insomnia was observed. We consider that consistent treatment of Cheongsimyeonja-tang can contribute to improve the hearing loss.
