  • InP/InGaP quantum structures (QSs) were grown on GaAs (001) substrates by a migration-enhanced molecular beam epitaxy method. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) and emission wavelength-dependent time-resolved PL (TRPL) were performed to investigate the optical properties of InP/InGaP QSs as a function of migration enhanced epitaxy (MEE) growth cycles from 2 to 8. One cycle for the growth of InP QS consists of 2-s In and 2-s P supply with an interruption time of 10 s after each source supply. As the MEE growth cycle increases from 2 to 8, the PL peak is redshifted and exhibited different (larger, comparable, or smaller) bandgap shrinkages with increasing temperature compared to that of bulk InP. The PL decay becomes faster with increasing MEE cycles while the PL decay time increases with increasing emission wavelength. These PL and TRPL results are attributed to the different QS density and size/shape caused by the MEE repetition cycles. Therefore, the size and density of InP QSs can be controlled by changing the MEE growth cycles.

  • The time-resolved photoexcitation dynamics of electrical conductivity of the magnetic organic superconductor ${\lambda}-(BETS)_2Fe_{0.45}Ga_{0.55}Cl_4$ has been studied with a nanosecond visible laser pulse at its three different phases, i. e., metallic phase, superconducting phase and insulating phase. A transient increase of the resistance is induced by photoirradiation at all the temperatures measured for all three phases, but the decay profile shows a significant temperature dependence. The relaxation rate in the metallic and insulating phase are different from each other, and the decay time is relatively faster and almost constant in the metallic phase. However, a prolongation of the relaxation time is observed at temperature just around the narrow superconducting phase. Nonbolometric (nonthermal) origin of the observed photoresponse of the electrical conductivity is confirmed in the superconducting phase.

  • Proton transfer reaction is one of the most fundamental processes in chemistry and life science. Excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) has been studied as a model system of the proton transfer, since it can be conveniently initiated by light. We report ESIPT reaction dynamic of 1-hydroxy-anthraquione (1-HAQ) in solution by highly time-resolved fluorescence. ESIPT time of 1-HAQ is determined to be $45{\pm}10$ fs directly from decay of the reactant fluorescence and rise of the product fluorescence. High time resolution allows observation of the coherent vibrational wave packet motion in the excited state of the reaction product tautomer. The coherently excited vibrational mode involves large displacement of the atoms, which shortens the distance between the proton donor and the acceptor. With the theoretical analysis, we propose that the ESIPT of 1-HAQ proceeds barrierlessly with assistance of the skeletal vibration, which in turn becomes excited coherently by the ESIPT reaction.

  • For complete assessment of inhalation doses of radon and its progeny inside the three main ancient Egyptian tombs in Saqqara, seasonal radon concentrations have been measured by using a new electronic device that allows for measurement of real-time-resolved radon concentrations. Measurements were complemented by very fast measurements of thoron concentrations, which turned out to be low. Based on these measurements, annual residence time inside these tombs and the newest International Commission on Radiological Protection-recommended radon dose conversion coefficients or seasonal effective doses were calculated. The results indicate that workers receive highest annual effective doses of up to 140 mSv, which exceeds the annual limit of 20 mSv, whereas lower values up to 15 mSv are received by guides. In contrast, much lower doses were obtained for one-time visitors of the investigated tombs. The obtained results are somewhat different but still consistent with those previously obtained by means of fixed passive dose meters at some of the investigated places. This indicates that reasonable estimates of the effective dose of radon can be also obtained from short-term radon measurements carried out only twice a year (summer and winter season). Increasing the ventilation, minimizing the working times, etc., are highly recommended to reduce the annual effective dose.

  • In this study, 1-hour integrated $PM_{2.5}$ mass and chemical composition concentrations were monitored at the St. Louis-Midwest Supersite in Illinois. Time-resolved samples were collected one week in each of June 2001 (22 June to 28 June), November 2001 (7 November to 13 November), and March 2002 (19 March to 25 March). A total of 427 samples were collected by CAMM (continuous ambient mass monitor) and 15 compounds were analyzed by AAS, PILS (particle-into-liquid sampler), and TOT (thermal optical transmittance) method. PMF was applied to identify the sources and apportion the $PM_{2.5}$ mass to each source for highly time resolved data. In addition, the nonparametric regression (NPR) was applied to identify the predominant directions of local sources relative to wind direction. Also, this study performed compare the NPR analysis and location of actual local point sources at the St. Louis area. The PMF modeling identified nine sources and the average mass was apportioned to gasoline vehicle, road dust, zinc smelter, copper production, secondary sulfate, diesel emission, secondary nitrate, iron+steel, and lead smelter, respectively. These results suggested that this study results will be help for $PM_{2.5}$ source apportionment studies at similar metropolitan area, establish $PM_{2.5}$ standard, and establish effective emissions reduction strategies in Korea.

  • Many researchers are studying brain activity to using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Time Resolved Spectroscopy(TRS), Electroencephalography(EEG), and etc. They are used detection of seizures or epilepsy and deception detection in the main. In this paper, we focus on emotion recognition by recording brain waves. We specially use fMRI, TRS, and EEG for measuring brain activity Researchers are experimenting brain waves to get only a measuring apparatus or to use both fMRI and EEG. This paper is measured that we take images of fMRI and TRS about brain activity as human emotions and then we take data of EEG signals. Especially, we focus on EEG signals analysis. We analyze not only original features in brain waves but also transferred features to classify into five sections as frequency. And we eliminate low frequency from 0.2 to 4Hz for EEG artifacts elimination.

  • Luminescence properties of asymmetric double quantum well structure composed of $Al_x/Ga_{1-x}$ /As AIAs/GaAs have been studied by steady state and time-resolved photoluminescence and phtoluminescence excitation spectroscopy at low temperature. Two quantum well samples with different barrier thickness (15$\AA$ and 150$\AA$) were prepared to investigate the dependence of tunneling characteristics on barrier thickness. The abscence of excitonic recombination peak from $Al_x/Ga_{1-x}$As well for the 15$\AA$ barrier sample indicates a very fast electron tunneling to GaAs well. Meanwhile, T-X transition between well and barrier is supposed to be a major route for the fast decay of luminescence from $Al_x/Ga_{1-x}$As well in the 150$\AA$ barrier sample. Time-resolved photduminescence from GaAs well of 15$\AA$ sample shows the exsitence of the rise with 100 ps which is attributed to the hole tunneling.

  • Fluorescence time decay of human aorta has been measured at 380, 440, 480 nm using 320 nm excitation and time-correlated single photon counting technique. Fluorescence decay was found to be nonexponential at all emission frequencies. The normal and diseased sample showed significantly different fluorescence behaviors at 380 nm while this time decay difference was decreased in the fluorescence at 440 and 480 nms. The decay data were multiexponential and were analyzed with two exponential decay constants. The fluorescence decays were compared with and analyzed in terms of collagen and elastin.

  • The graphene oxide (GO) and graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs), which have gained research interest as new types of light-emitting materials, were synthesized by the modified Hummers method for oxidation of graphite flake and graphite nanoparticle. The optical properties of GO and GOQDs have been compared by mean of photoluminescence (PL), PL excitation (PLE), UV-vis absorbance, and time-resolved PL. The GO have an absorption peak at 229 nm and shoulder part at 310 nm, whereas the GOQDs show broad absorption with a gradual change up without any absorption peaks. The PL emission of GOQDs and GO showed the green color at 520 nm and the red color at 690 nm, respectively. The red emission of GO showed faster PL decay time than the green emission of GOQDs. In particular, the temporal PL profile of the GO showed redshift from 560 nm to 660 nm after the pump event.
