  • Traffic signal control is one of the most cost-effective means of improving urban mobility. With the recent progress of ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) and the installation of the real time traffic control systems, traffic signal control is conducted in online and real time. Normally, time-of-day (TOD) signal control is used with the system, but no definite methodology has yet been available for efficient TOD signal planing designing. Such method and process are in need to optimize the traffic signal timing plan. This paper proposes the optimization of TOD signal timings on arterials. The effects of the signal timings from the proposed method were assessed in the field. The proposed includes the methods determining the separation of the TOD break points and the TOD intervals. Those were tested on an arterial consisting of ten coordinated signalized intersections. It was found from the test results that the proposed TOD signal timing plans outperformed the previous signal timings.

  • The performance of the National Highway is raised, but the capacity of the signalized intersection on the National Highway is low. It's operated by TOD(Time Of Day) mode. To evaluate of the performance of COSMOS(Cycle, Offset, Split Model for Seoul), a real time traffic adaptive signal control system, on the National Highway, studied volume, travel time and queuing length at TOD control and TRC(Traffic responsive Control). Consequently, the average travel speed at TRC is high $2.9\~16.7$km/h then the average travel speed at TOD control. And te queuing length at TRC is low $15\~196m$ then the queuing length at TOD control.

  • This paper present a new optimization model to generate aggregate production planning by considering electric cost. The new Time Of Switching (TOS) electric type is introduced by switching over Time Of Day (TOD) and Time Of Use (TOU) electric types to minimize the electric cost. The fuzzy demand and Dynamic inventory tracking with multiple plant capacity are modeled to cover the uncertain demand of customer. The constraint for minimum hour limitation of plant running per one start up event is introduced to minimize plants idle time. Furthermore; the Optimal Weight Moving Average Factor for customer demand forecasting is introduced by monthly factors to reduce forecasting error. Application is illustrated for multiple cement mill plants. The mathematical model was formulated in spreadsheet format. Then the spreadsheet-solver technique was used as a tool to solve the model. A simulation running on part of the system in a test for six months shows the optimal solution could save 60% of the actual cost.

  • Time information and time synchronization are fundamental building blocks in wireless sensor networks since many sensor network applications need time information for object tracking, consistent state updates, duplicate detection and temporal order delivery. Various time synchronization protocols have been proposed for sensor networks because of the characteristics of sensor networks which have limited computing power and resources. However, none of these protocols have been designed with time representation scheme in mind. Global time format such as UTC TOD (Universal Time Coordinated, Time Of Day) is very useful in sensor network applications. In this paper we propose time keeping and synchronization method for global time presentation in wireless sensor networks.

  • For over half a century, the United States (US) and its coalition military aircrafts have been using Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band analog modulation (AM) radios in ground-to-air communication and short-range air-to-air communications. Evolving from this, since 2007, the US military and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) adopted HAVE QUICK to be used by almost all aircrafts, because it had been revealed that intercepting and jamming of former aircraft communication signals was possible, which placed a serious threat to defense systems. The second-generation Anti-jam Tactical UHF Radio for NATO (SATURN) was developed to replace HAVE QUICK systems by 2023. The NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4372 is a classified document that defines the SATURN technical and operational specifications. In preparation of this future upgrade to SATURN systems, in this paper, the SATURN technical and operational specifications are reviewed, and the network synchronization, frequency hopping, and communication setup parameters that are controlled by the Network (NET) Time, Time Of Day (TOD), Word Of Day (WOD), and Multiple Word of Day (MWOD) are described in addition to SATURN Edition 3 (ED3) and future Edition 4 (ED4) basic features. In addition, an anti-jamming performance analysis (in reference to partial band jamming and pulse jamming) and the time delay queueing model analysis are conducted based on a SATURN transmitter and receiver assumed model.

  • Advances in smart sensors, embedded systems, low-power design, ad-hoc networks and MEMS have allowed the development of low-cost small sensor nodes with computation and wireless communication capabilities that can form distributed wireless sensor networks. • Traffic state classification is crucial for time-of-day (TOD) traffic signal control. This paper proposed a traffic state classification technique applying Deep-Embedded Clustering (DEC) method that uses a high dimensional traffic data observed at all signalized intersections in a traffic signal control sub area (SA). So far, signal timing plan has been determined based on the traffic data observed at the critical intersection in SA. The current method has a limitation that it cannot consider a comprehensive traffic situation in SA. The proposed method alleviates the curse of dimensionality and turns out to overcome the shortcomings of the current signal timing plan.

  • Recently in Korea, in the case of metropolis, the urban signalized intersections are controlled by traffic information center or ITS center. Cheon-an City also established traffic information center through the 1st.-$\sim$3rd. ITS public construction and has managed this center that includes bus information service, traffic information collection and providing service, parking information service, and traffic responsive control system. In the Cheon-an metropolitan traffic signal operation, traffic signal controllers were grouped by the each main traffic flow axes and performed with coordinated signal timing for the signalized arterials, and also cycle and split changed by realtime traffic demands. Cheon-an urban traffic responsive control system was evaluated by intersection delay and speed, then it was verified that the delay decreased and vehicle speed improved. However, the rural signal control system to connect adjacency town was evaluated to have lower status than urban area due to the unimproved TOD (Time of day) plan. Therefore actuated signal control was examined for substitutive control system in isolated signal intersection. The aim of this article is to compare actuated signal control with TOD mode in the rural intersection of Cheon-an and to fine superiority of these two control mode, with evaluation of vehicle delay by using HCM(2000) method and by micro-simulation CORSlM. The result of field test show that actuated signal control gave better performance in delay comparison than the existing TOD signal control. And simulation outcome verified that non-optimized TOD has higher delay than optimized TOD mode, non-optimal actuated mode, and optimal actuated signal control mode. Particularly, these three modes delays had not different values according to the paired sample t-test. This is because small traffic demands were loaded in each links. This suggested actuated signal control is expected to be more effective than TOD mode in some rural isolated intersections which frequently need to survey for traffic volume.

  • In satellite communication, modulated beacon signal is spreaded by gold sequence and the modulated beacon is transmitted via linear phase modulation. Due to the difference in characteristics of the satellite and the receiver on the ground, frequency offset (FO) occurs. An existing modulated beacon receiver is a method of synchronizing the frequency of a modulated beacon signal using FFT(Fast Fourier Transform), which not only increases the delay and complexity in terms of system implementation but also has a separate circuit for compensating the phase difference due to FO and phase offset from FFT points. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes and analyzes a scheme for compensating and demodulating the coarse FO and phase offset at one time using the 2-phase shaped characteristics of the modulated beacon signal. Also, through the simulation, the modulation index suitable for the proposed method is analyzed and the appropriate cumulative number is also analyzed.
