  • Well testing in unconventional reservoirs, such as tight or shale gas formations, presents considerable challenges. It is difficult to estimate the reservoir properties in ultra-low permeability formation because of poor inflow prior to stimulation and excessive test duration. Moreover, radial flow may not develop in hydraulically fractured horizontal wells. For these reasons, the cost of test is high and the accuracy is relatively low. Accordingly, industry is turning to an alternate testing method, diagnostic fracture injection test (DFIT), which is conducted prior to the main hydraulic fracture treatments. Nowadays, DFIT are regarded as the most practical way to obtain good estimates of reservoir properties in unconventional reservoirs. Various methods may be used for interpreting DFIT data. This paper gives an explanation of those methods in detail and examines three actual field data. These show how various analysis methods can be applied to consistently interpret fracture closure pressure and time, as well as before and after closure flow regimes and reservoir properties from field data.

  • Fibrin glue is composed of fibrinogen and thrombin and used in various regions for multiple use. Basic principle is that thrombin converts fibrinogen to fibrin in the presence of $Ca^{2+}$. The structure of fibrin is loose at the beginning, but after about 5 minutes a tight structure is formed under the influence of factor VIII which changes fibrin monomer into fibrin polymer. Fibrin glue is used for tissue adhesive, suture, local hemostasis, wound healing, closure of subdural space. Fibrin adhesive has been used in oral and maxillofacial surgery for hemostasis after tooth extraction in patients with coagulation disorders, skin graft fixation, reattachment of periodontal flaps, in combination with autogenous bone chips to fill the bony cavities following cyst removal, and for securing the hydroxyapatite granules for maxillary alveolar ridge augmentation. This study was designed for researching influence of fibrin glue during healing phase after making artificial bone defect.

A Case Report of Bilateral Congenital Lacrimal Sac Fistula with Cleft Ear Lobe (갈라진 귓볼과 동반된 양측성 선천성 누낭 피부누공의 경험례)

  • Purpose: A congenital lacrimal sac fistula is unusual and consists of a dimple opening below the medial canthal tendon that leads to the lacrimal sac. This anlage ducts occur when the lacrimal anlage cells proliferate and canalize rather than involute. And, the anomaly is usually not associated with any systemic abnormalities. Also congenital cleft of the earlobes is rarely seen among congenital ear anomalies. Therefore, we report rare case with symptomatic bilateral lacrimal fistula with the ear cleft. Methods: A 4-year-old boy was admitted with aggravated chronic maxillary sinusitis, recurrent chronic dacryocystitis, and epiphora. He had two minor anomalies including bilateral lacrimal fistula originated in lacrimal tear sac and unilateral transverse ear cleft. The patient had been operated with fistulectomy and perioperative antibiotics. A small vertical ellipse is made around the opening with sharp dissection. The tract is excised using the probe as the guide. Another probe is placed through the lower canaliculus to prevent the damage. A suture ligature of 6-0 Maxon is placed around the deepest point of the tract, which is then excised. Additional sutures are placed in the tissues to form a tight closure to prevent reestablishment of the fistula. The skin is closed with 6-0 Black Silk. Results: The patient recovered well without any complications such as infection, epiphora, and obstruction of lacrimal sac. Conclusion: Our case illustrates bilateral lacrimal anlage ducts in a patient with unilateral congenital ear cleft. We recommend careful evaluation of lacrimal system in these patients, especially bilateral case and other congenital anomalies. Finally, we recommend excision of the ducts when epiphora, infection, or chronic skin irritation occur.

Analysis of Jacket Shapes by Designers in the 2000s (2000년대 디자이너별 재킷 형태분석)

  • To analyze recent changes in designer-specific garment composition, detail, and design elements of jackets, we classified jackets from the Paris Haute Couture Collection from 2000 S/S to 2019 F/W according to their designers and examined their characteristics. Our analysis of the jackets by Armani, Chanel, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Valentino shows that the hour-glass silhouette was most common in Armani, Chanel, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Valentino jackets; Chanel used more straight silhouettes compared to other designers. Most jackets, regardless of the designer, had midlength waist-to-bottom, tight sleeves fitted to the body, natural shoulder shape, and solid color. Moreover, woven fabric was the most common material. Jackets with no collar were the most common for Armani, tailored collars for Dior and Jean-Paul Gaultier, and standing collars for Chanel and Valentino. For the closure method, Armani used hook-and-eye, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Valentino used button closures, and Dior used snap closures the most. New design attempts by designers are bringing details and design elements together. In an era characterized by an abundance of designs and frequent replacement of each brand's creative designers, it is important to create and maintain a brand's unique design identity and philosophy that can meet consumers' elevated standards, which tend to be biased towards new and stimulating designs due to the development of the IT industry.

Successful Carapace Puncture Wound Repair with Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) in an Amur Softshell Turtle (Pelodiscus maackii)

  • An Amur softshell turtle with multiple shell injuries was admitted to the Seoul Wildlife Center on 19 May 2021. The most severe lesion was a puncture wound requiring urgent closure. In addition to routine supportive therapy, the damaged shell was patched with biocompatible polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) materials (bone cement and dental acrylic) and fiberglass. Despite a few methods to repair the carapace or plastron of hard-shelled turtles, shell repair in the Amur softshell turtle has rarely been reported. This paper reports the repair process of a puncture wound in the carapace of a softshell turtle using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). PMMA is a biocompatible acrylic polymer that forms a tight structure that holds the implant against tissue defects, such as skin, bones, and dentures. Fiberglass, a preferred fiber in various medical fields, was used with PMMA to provide extra strength and waterproof capability. After the procedure, there were no signs of edema, inflammation, bleeding, skin discoloration, or any other complications. Accordingly, this can be a method of choice in softshell turtles using biocompatible materials to cover the lesion in the carapace and provide appropriate wound management, supportive therapy, and a suitable course of antibiotics considering all other circumstances.
