  • This study shows the badge system for military officials of Joseon dynasty. The badge system for military officials of the 15th century consists of rank badges with tiger and leopard for the first and second ranks and rank badges with bear for the third rank. According to the code of laws, military officials are supposed to wear the rank badges with four different kinds of animals in Joseon dynasty. However, the badge system shown in the code of laws sometimes does not match with the badges in practices. Based on the literature, remaining badges and the badges in portraits, six different kinds of badges with animals are found : First, rank badges with tiger and leopard were used until the late 16th century. Second, rank badges with tiger were found in the period between the early 17th century and the latter 18th century. Third, rank badges with Haechi were found in the early 17th century. Fourth, rank badges with lions can be found in remains of the mid 17th century, the literature and the portrait of the late 18th century. Finally, the rank badges with double leopards or with single leopard were found from a portrait dated the late of 18th century to the last period of Joseon dynasty.

  • An 1-year old male siberian tiger showing severe vomiting and blackish and frothy diarrhea for 3 days were dead in Seoul Zoo. Gross finding at necropsy were small amount of blood were found in abdominal cavity and intestine. In small and large intestine, there were necrosis and detachment epithelial cell of intestinal mucosa in histopathology. The presence of feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) antigen was detected by PCR. In microbiology, E.coli and Enterococcus faecalis were isolated from the stool. This case was diagnosed in death induced by FPV infection according to CBC, histopathology and PCR.

  • The bond failure of resin teeth In denture base resin is one of the failure in prosthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of artificial resin teeth to the denture base resins. Specimens were made with heat curing acrylic resins (Vertex Rs, Lucitone 199) and artificial resin teeth (Tiger, Trubyte biotone, Endura, Orthosit, Tubyte bioform IPN) and the bond strength were measured with testing machine(Zwick. Germany) and the mode of bond failure were observed. The results were as follows; 1. The bond strength of Vertex Rs to artificial resin teeth was the highest in Tubyte biotone, and It was the lowest in Tiger and Trubyte bioform IPN. 2. The bond strength of Lucitone 199 to artificial resin teeth were higher in Orthosit and Trubyte bioform IPN than in Tiger and Trubyte biotone. 3. The bond strength of Trubyte biotone to Vertex Rs was higher than to Lucitone 199 and that of the Trubyte bioform IPN to Lucitone 199 was higher than to Vertex Rs. 4. Nearly all bond failures of specimens occured cohesively within the resin teeth.

  • Understanding temporal variations in wildlife populations is a prerequisite for conservation planning of wide-ranging species such as tigers (Panthera tigris). We determined the temporal variation in abundance, population growth, and sex ratios at different age and sex stages for a tiger population in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, India from November 2007 to February 2011 using motion-sensing cameras. We identified 19 male and 21 female tigers from stripe patterns during 16,110 trap nights within an area covering 233 km2. The annual abundance of the population varied from 34.9 (mean)±3.8 (SE) to 23.9±1.5, with a declining trend in the mean annual change of abundance (-12%). The density of adult females remained stable across the study duration, but the densities of adult males and non-breeding tigers fluctuated. The sex ratio was female-biased (0.58 males/female) for breeding tigers and male-biased (1.74 males/female) for non-breeding tigers. Our results reinforce the importance of long-term studies for monitoring the naturally occurring processes in populations to develop population indicators and identify reliable baseline information for conservation and management planning of populations.

  • A 16-year-old female Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) infected with Paragonimus kellicotti was described. Noticeable clinical symptom was not observed before death. At autopsy, numerous cysts were found on the pleural surface of the lung. The cysts were spherical, approximately 1.0 cm in diameter, bulge the pleura, and dark red-brown in color. Such cysts were also found in the deeper lung parenchyma, and usually contained adult flukes in pairs. Histopathologically, the cyst was lined with stratified squamous epithelium which arose from metaplasia of bronchial epithelium. Partial hyperplasia and necrotic foci accompanied with inflammatory cells were often observed in the squamous epithelium. The outer part of the cyst was consisted of fibrous connective tissue in which leukocytes were infiltrated. Catarrhal pneumonia was manifested in the adjacent lung tissues.

  • The existing underwater acoustic communications modem is developing based on commercial products, so it is possible on functionality and performance of under water acoustic communications modem implementation. But the production of development system is required to single platform system implementation at the system' s size and cost. So this thesis designs and implements the signal processing module as an important role to single hardware platform production of underwater acoustic communication modem by using TigerSHARC DSP chip.

  • Before the advent of febrile disease theory, people had used Sanghallon's theory to cure febril disease. Therefore, Wu-Tang both suggested new prescription and used the former prescription of Sanghallon(傷寒論) in curing febrile disease. However, he didn't use the original prescription of Sanghallon and modified the quantity and ingredients properly. Through this process, the fault of Sanghallon was supplemented and the method of curing febrile disease was advanced. To research about this, it will be much easier to understand prescription of Sanghallon and even the treatments and views of Wu-Tang about febrile disease. In this study, I researched the way Wu-Tang applied prescription of Sanghallon, focusing on Decoction for Purgation, White Tiger Decoction, Decoction for Restoring Pulse which was used by Wu-Tang in various ways and applied in treatment of febrile disease.
