The Community structure of meiobenthos was studied seasonally at 5 stations of Bangameori tidal flat and 3 stations of subtidal area in Daebudo near the Shiwha dike in the west coast of Korea, from May 2000 to February 2001. Mean grain size of intertidal stations ranged from $3.16\;\varphi\;to\;3.73\varphi$ (sand), subtidal stations were $5.81~6.67\;\varphi$ (mud). Nematodes were the most dominant group among the representative 19 meiofaunal groups at all stations in both tidal flat and sub-tidal area. The subdominant groups were benthic harpacticoid copepods and Sarcomastigophorans. The density of meiobenthos ranged from 145 inds. $10cm^{-2}$ to 2,057 inds. $10cm^{-2}$ (0~1 cm) in the sediment of intertidal stations, and from 391 to 3,787 inds. $10cm^{-2}$ (0~5 cm) in the subtidal stations. The lowest meiofaunal density was recorded in winter, whereas the highest density was shown in spring. Comparing with another previous work at the same area, data from this study does not statistically shown differences with results before discharge of shiwha lake water.
This study was conducted to examine the community structure of macrobenthos on Angel tidal flat in Jinhae, south coast of Korea. Monthly samples were conducted at eight sites from March 1998 to February 1999. A total of 110 species were sampled with a mean density of 322ind. $m^{-2}$ and biomass of 98.4 wwt g $m^{-2}$. Of these species, there were 44 species of polychaetes $(40.0\%)$, 41 species of crustaceans $(37.3\%)$ and 16 species of molluscs $(14.5\%)$. The major density dominant species were a gastropod Batilaria cumingi (52ind. $m^{-2}$) and five polychaetes Ceratonereis erythraeensis (38ind. $m^{-2}$), Cirriformia tentaculata (32ind. $m^{-2}$), Capitella capitata (23ind. $m^{-2}$), Sigambra tentaculata (23ind. $m^{-2}$), Glycera chirori (17ind. $m^{-2}$). Cluster and MDS analysis showed that the study sites could be divided into two tidal elevation groups. According to the spatial distribution of dominant species and SIMPER analysis, the two groups were characterized by Sigambra tentaculata - Chaetozone setosa in upper species group and Ceratonereis erythraeensis-Cirriformia tentaculata-Capitella capitata in lower species group.
The present study is aimed to investigate the relationship between the distribution of benthic macro fauna and environments in the Mangyung-dongjin tidal flat developed on the west coast of central korea. Samples were taken from 69 sites established on 8 transect lines running perpendicular to the coast. The 69 sites located in the range of -250 to 230 cm height from the mean sea level were categorized into 4 levels of exposure duration. The mean grain sizes of the surface sediments varied from 1.5 to $7.9{\varphi}$. Silty sands and sands were dominant sediment facies on the tidal flat. A total of 64 species of invertebrates was collected and the mean density was $1,335{\;}indiv{\cdot}\textrm{m}^2$. The dominant species was Laternula cf. limicola of Bivalvia (71% of total counts), followed by Umbonium thomasi of Gastropoda (22%), and Lingula anatina of Brachiopoda (2.6%). These 3 species comprised 95.5% of total individual number. The distribution of benthic animals was closely related with the duration of tidal exposure. Perinereis association was the characteristic for the most exposed area, and followed by Macrophthalmus and Bullacta-Mactra-Umbonium association along the degree of exposure duration.
The effect of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and its metabolites like tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), and formaldehyde (FA) on microbial activity and diversity in tidal mud flat was studied. MTBE, TBA, and FA with different concentrations were added into microcosms containing tidal mud samples, and placed at room temperature for 30 days. Then the physico-chemical properties such as pH, moisture contents and organic matter contents in the microcosms were measured. In addition, the total viable cell number and dehydrogenase activity were measured. Bacterial communities in the microcosms were monitored using a 16S rRNA-PCR-DGGE (Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) fingerprinting method. As a result, the exposure concentrations of MTBE and its metabolites showed no correlation with the physico-chemical factors (P>0.05). Dehydrogenase activity and total viable cell number were decreased with increasing MTBE, TBA and FA concentrations (P<0.05). The toxic effect was higher the following order: FA > MTBE > TBA. Dominant species in the microcosms contaminated with MTBE and its metabolites were Sphingobacteria, Flavobacteria, delta-proteobacteria, gamma-proteobacteria. The diversity of bacterial community was not significantly influenced by MTBE and its metabolites.

Seasonal species composition and biomass of microphytobenthos were examined at the intertidal flats of Jinsanri, Taean, Korea, from April to December 2011. In total, 121 species were identified, including 109 diatoms, 5 blue-green algae, and 5 dinoflagellates. Seasonal variation in species number ranged from 49 to 56 species (minimum in October and maximal in April), while vertical variation across three different shore levels ranged from 64 to 77 species with maximum at high and minimum at low shore. Species diversity ranged from 3.22 to 3.42 seasonally and from 3.50 to 3.17 across vertical shore levels. Seasonal average values of the normalized difference vegetation index and the vegetation index were 0.06 and 1.14, respectively. Chlorophyll a concentrations were $66.00-120.73mg/m^2$, with a seasonal minimum and maximum in July and October, respectively, and a vertical shore maximum of $137.35mg/m^2$ at mid shore. Phaeopigment concentrations peaked in October ($50.78mg/m^2$) and at high shore ($61.58mg/m^2$) and were lowest in December ($22.53mg/m^2$) and at low shore ($15.28mg/m^2$). The number of microphytobenthos ranged from 78,556 to 287,898 cells/$cm^2$, reaching a maximum in April and a minimum in July. The diatoms Paralia sulcata, Navicula sp., and Delphines surirella were dominant at all tidal levels over the study period. Dinoflagellates were dominant in July at low shore, and blue-green algae were abundant between July and October at mid shore. In conclusion, species composition and primary production of microphytobenthos exhibited clear seasonal and vertical patterns.

The domestic marine healing industry is undergoing significant revitalization efforts, with a focus on understanding the efficacy and effectiveness of marine healing resources. This study establishes utilization and management standards through a detailed analysis of the active components within well-recognized marine healing mud materials. Samples of mud materials were collected from domestic tidal flats. These samples exhibited an average composition of 7.87% sand, 74.95% silt, and 17.17% clay, with a combined mud content (silt+clay)(silt+clay) consistently exceeding 90%. Notably, SiO2 emerged as the most prevalent effective ingredient at 68.4%, followed by Al2O3 (13.3%)>Fe2O3 (4.0%)>K2O (2.9%)>Na2O (2.3%)>MgO (1.6%)>CaO (1.0%)>TiO2 (0.7%), in terms of average content. Subsequently, through an analysis of effective ingredients, Si, Al, Fe, K, Na, Mg, and Ca were identified as elements demonstrating significant functionality. Among these, key indicator ingredients were selected for quality control, all of which were found to possess efficacious properties. Notably, K, Mg, and Ca exhibited particularly high concentrations. Based on these findings and referencing existing literature, it is recommended that domestic tidal flat mud resources earmarked for utilization as marine healing resources should possess a raw material mud content of no less than 70.0%. Moreover, the cumulative index components K2O+MgO+CaO should meet or exceed a threshold of 5.0% for optimal effectiveness.
This paper was conducted to study the economic valuation for Nursery-Phase production of the tidal flat oyster in Korea. Benefit-cost(B/C) model used to indicate the effects of economic valuation. Using discounting rates(i.e., 4.5%, 6.5% and 8.5%), the model compared revenues and costs that occur at different times from 2012 to 2018. This study also estimated various submodels, which are Benefit Cost Ratio(B/C ratio), Net Present Value(NPV), Internal Ration of Return(IRR), to compare profit of Nursery-Phase production styles and analyzed returns to evaluate the scenarios. Sensitivity analysis were conducted for various scenarios. The results suggest as follows. First, the oyster spat to the shell height of 3~5cm was more profit than the shell height of 1~3cm. Second, all of sensitivity analysis with submodels were economic valuation such that B/C ratio > 1, NPV > 0 and IRR > discounting rate. Third, the payback period was about 3years after installed Nursery-Phase production system.
The Gwangyang Bay, southern coast of Korea, is characterized by its semi-enclosed basin morphology and mesotidal regime. The Seomjin River, in particular, has a complex delta depositional system at its mouth, which has approximately 44$\textrm{km}^2$ in the total surface area. Various sedimentary environments, such as delta, intertidal flat, subtidal zone and major tidal channels are recognized based on sediment facies and depositional regime. However, the essential intertidal flat environments are developed mainly in the western parts of the bay which is generally low in energy, i, e. tidal current and wave action.
It has been suggested that merging plays an important role in the formation and the evolution of early-type galaxies (ETGs). Optical-NIR color gradients of ETGs in high density environments are found to be less steep than those of ETGs in low density environments, hinting frequent merger activities in ETGs in high density environments. In order to examine if the flat color gradients are the result of dry mergers, we studied the relations between merging features, color gradient, and environments of 281 low redshift ETGs selected from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe82. The sample contains 222 relaxed ETGs, 38 ETGs with tidal features, 10 galaxies with dust features and 11 galaxies with tidal and dust features, and Near Infrared (NIR) images are taken from UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Large Area Survey (LAS). We find that r-K color gradients of field sample galaxies are steeper than those of sample ETGs within cluster environments. For the field sample galaxies, a relatively large number of galaxies with peculiar features contribute to the steeper color gradients, while the absence of these peculiar early-type galaxies make color gradients of the cluster sample galaxies intact. In high density environment, ETGs are already evolved and relaxed, resulting flat color gradients. However, in low density environments, a majority of ETGs undergone merging recently which makes the color gradients steep.

The pixel-based processing of an image refers to a process of converting a value of one pixel only depending on the value of the current pixel, regardless of the value of another pixel. Pixel-based processing is used as the most basic operation in many fields such as image conversion, image enhancement, and image synthesis. There are processing methods such as arithmetic operation, histogram smoothing, and contrast stretching. In this paper, in order to clearly distinguish the tidal flat region from the tidal flat image of the west coast taken with a drone, we seek a method to find an efficient outline using pixel-based processing in the boundary detection part of the pre-processing process.
