  • Renewable energy resources such as wind, wave, solar, micro hydro, tidal and biomass etc. are becoming importance stage by stage because of considering effect of the environment. Solar energy is one of the most successful sources of renewable energy for the production of electrical energy following solar energy. And, the solar/photovoltaic cell generators depend on the solar radiation, which is a random variable so this poses difficulty in the system scheduling and energy dispatching, as the schedule of the photovoltaic cell generators availability is not known in advance. This paper proposes to use the two-layered artificial neural networks for predicting the actual solar radiation from the previous values of the same variable.

  • This paper develops an algorithm for probabilistic production cost credit evaluation of wind turbine generators (WTG) with multi-state. Renewable energy resources such as wind, wave, solar, micro hydro, tidal and biomass etc. are becoming importance stage by stage because of considering effect of the environment. Wind energy is one of the most successful sources of renewable energy for the production of electrical energy. Case study demonstrates that the wind speed credit in view point of economics can be assessed by using the proposed methodology.

And, the solar/photovoltaic cell generators can not make two-state model as conventional generators, but should be modeled as multi-state model due to solar radiation random variation. The method of obtaining reliability evaluation index of solar cell generators is different from the conventional generators. This paper presents a basic study on reliability evaluation of power system considering solar cell generators with multi-states.

  • The concentrations of nutrients in precipitation increased slightly from May to June and did not change afterwards. Regarding irrigation water, the nutrient concentrations were high in the early stage of rice growth but decreased during the period of mid-June to mid-July. The concentration of Tot-N in runoff water increased significantly during the period of fertilizer application (basal, tillering, and panicle fertilization) and then decreased. The concentrations of Tot-N in runoff water ranged from 0.4 to 39.8mg/L (average of 5.9mg/L). The concentration of Tot-P in runoff water ranged from 0.0004 to 0.2084mg/L (average of 0.055mg/L). The Tot-P concentrations were high only at the early stage of rice growth after fertilizer application and did not change afterwards.

  • This study was analyzed to determine the cause of red tide at 10 and 30 days antecedental rainfall, stage and discharge in the Taehwa River, tidal data of Ulsan port, also, it was analyzed variation of red tide population, salinity, BOD, COD, T-N, T-P at S1, S2 each point. Most of the red tide in the Taehwa River occurred by provision of proper nutrients with antecedent, the proximity between discharge and low-flow capacity, and stage and discharge of stabilized condition after the sea water was inflowed by maximum tide difference. Red tide population is not nearly related to the change of salinity, the Taehwa River seems specific features of Non-coastal rivers downstream, because red tide was occurred when salinity quite low-end condition.

  • The under developing estuarial port Bupsung is bounded by a river and the sea, and has several well developed tidal lands, where the littoral drift is strong due to the tide and the river discharge. The study area is located at the inner part of a concave bay and has a large tidal range due to the water discharge through the Watan-chun and Junnam-dike. In beginning stage of the ocean physical impact study, the tidal modeling is very important and difficult especially in this area. Moreover, we need a model experiment after the verification of the formulated model based on ocean survey. In this study, we constructed a numerical model to the Bupsung port coastal boundaries, which varies with the past and future development and made simulation with it. The result after development shows that there is a decrease of velocity on flood current and a increase on Ebb current and the minor variation of the tide level, compared with before development.

  • The stratigraphy of the Gomso-Bay tidal flat consists of basement, preHolocene oxidized unit, and Holocene tidal sequence in ascending order. The oxidized unit is a yellowish brown stiff mud of the last stadial (or subglacial) stage before 12,000 yr B.P. This yellowish brown preHolocene unit does not contain any marine fossils, but contains plant roots, plant fragments, and also vertical and horizontal microfractures indicating soil-formation when exposed. It is regarded as interfluve deposits. The Holocene tidal sequence is composed of lower mud facies (upper-flat muds), upper sand and muddy sand facies (middle to lower-flat sands). This coarsening-upward and retrograding pattern of Holocene tidal deposits reflects a Holocene sea-level rise. The plots of $\^$14/C-age versus depth of dated samples (peats and shells) show that the sea level of 7,000 yr B.P. was located about 6.5 m below the present mean sea level, and the sea levels of 4,000 yr B.P. and 2,000 yr B.P. were also situated about 3 m and 2.5 m below the present mean sea level, respectively.

Soil Salinity and Continuum Distribution of Vegetation on the Three Reclaimed Tidal Flats of Kyonggi-Bay in the Mid-West Coast of Korea (한국 중부 서해안 경기만 일대 3개 간척지의 토양 염농도와 식생의 연속분포)

  • Assessing for flora distribution is necessary for land management and environmental research in reclaimed lands. This study was conducted to find out the relationship between vegetation distribution and soil salinity on three reclaimed tidal flats of Kyonggi-bay in the mid-west coast of Korea. We investigated the soil salinity and identified the vegetation at the continuum distribution spots, and describe the characteristics of continuum distribution. On the reclaimed tidal flats, spatial variation of vegetation formed partially, however as the result for connection of each spatial variation along with the soil salinity, continuum distribution formed and it was overlapped edaphic gradient with vegetation distribution, it means that the continuum distribution correspond with soil salinity gradient, as the evidence high salt tolerance species occurred at high saline spots, non salt tolerance species occurred at low saline spots. On the aged reclaimed tidal flats, continuum type was various and also clearly distinguished but it was not clear on the early stage of reclamation. The continuum distribution distinguished sequential and non-sequential type. Sequential type started from high saline zone and connected to low saline zone gradually, on this type, vegetation changed from pioneer halophyte to facultative halophyte and glycophyte along with the salinity gradient. Non-sequential type formed by non-sequential change of soil salinity, on this type, vegetation distribution was non-regular form because it has not changed gradually. In the aged reclaimed land, vegetation wilted zone existed with high salinity, and continuum distribution started from this zone with bare patch.
