  • The purpose of this study is to find sedimentation patterns variation before and after Saemangeum reclamation. Water circulations are calculated diagnostically from the observed water temperature and salinity data and wind data and tidal residual current. Three dimensional movements of injected particles due to currents, turbulence and sinking velocity are tracked by the Euler-lagrange methoed. Calculated sedimentation patterns of riverine material are highly similar to the observed ones.

  • Lagrangian particle transport model coupled with the EFDC have been performed to estimate the residence time and water exchange rate by release time of pollutants over a tidal cycle in Masan Bay. The modelled residence time for the whole bay was about 40 days, ranging from less than 20 days in the southern parts of Budo, to over 100 days in the upper parts of Somodo. The spatial difference of residence time was controlled by tidal residual currents and the distance to the bay channel. The area mean residence time during spring and neap tides was estimated to be about 36 days and 42 days, respectively. The time required for 30% exchange of water was calculated as ranging from 65 to 105 days by release time of pollutants.

  • To arrange artificial reefs for marine afforestation effectively, tidal currents were analyzed by numerical experiments, and particle tracking based on tidal currents was carried out to clarify the path of algae spores. The experiments were conducted by the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC), and water column was vertically divided into five layers. Tidal current patterns were showed to be affected by main currents outside of the study area, and two circle currents were observed during the analysis of residual currents. Particle tracking lasted 15 days at three installation places where artificial reefs for marine afforestation could be deployed. According to the results of the particle tracking experiment, particle movements at the No.1 and No. 3 stations were belt types along the coastal line. The No. 2 station documented an ellipse type movement 300~500m from coast line. These results suggest that artificial reefs for marine afforestation should be installed in the belt zones at of the No. 1 and No. 3 stations, and in the ellipse zone at the No. 2 station.

  • This work represents results of analysis of tidal observations at twelve major ports(Inchon, Kunsan, Mokpo, Daeheuksando, Jeju, Yeosu, Jinhae, Busan, Pohang, Ulsan, Mugho, Sogcho) around Korean coast for the years up to 1979. The reduction of hourly tide gauge sea level records provided by Korean Hydrographic Office was performed in systematic manner resulting digitised hourly observed series, predicted series and residual series. As a first step the application of an extended harmonic method of analyzing the tidal observations leads to the identification of 42 new constituents including 60 orthodox Doodson's constituents at major ports. The sea level statistics including sea level frequency distribution are presented and the tidal emersion curves showing the percentage of time for which different levels are covered by water and exposed are also presented to provide useful design input for coastal development. This study has teen undertaken in association with the programme of sea level research at Korean Hydrographic Office and the programme of adjustment of first order levelling network at National Geographic Institute.

  • This study considered a seagrass habitat in order to analyze the characteristics of a marine environment of seagrass located in the Seomjin river estuary, through an analysis of the distribution of the water depth, field observation, and three-dimensional numerical experiments using an EFDC model. The seagrass habitat was usually distributed at D.L(-) 0.5~0.0 m, and was hardly seen in the intertidal zone higher than that range. The distribution of the water temperature was within the range of $7.0{\sim}23.2^{\circ}C$, and the seagrass was demonstrated to have a strong tolerance to changes in the water temperature. In addition, the salinity distribution was found to be 27.2~31.0 psu, with suspended solids of 32.1 mg/L, which were higher than the previous research results (Huh et al., 1998), implying that there may be a reduction in the amount of deposits caused by the suspended solids. As for the sedimentary facies, they were comprised of 62.7% sand, 19.1% silt, and 18.2% clay, indicating that the arenaceous was superior and the sedimentary facies were similar to that of Dadae Bay. According to a numerical experiment, the maximum tidal current was 75 cm/s, while the tidal residual current was 10 cm/s, confirming that it sufficiently adapted to strong tidal currents. The erosion and deposition are predicted to be less than 1.0 cm/year. Thus, it is judged that the resuspension of sediments due to tidal currents and the changes in sedimentary facies are insignificant.

  • Tidal and wind-driven currents in Chinhae Bay are investigated using a three-dimensional numerical model developed by Kim et al. (1993). The simulations indicate that the flow patterns in the bay are predominated by the bathymetry, wind and river inflow, and the effects of wind on the flow pattern in the inner bay are much stronger than those in the entrance channel. Computed tidal currents coincide with the field measurements. The horizontal and vertical velocities of tidal and residual currents are strong in the entrance channel of the bay, whereas the velocities are relatively weak in the western and northern parts of the bay. Computed velocity fields show the expected phase difference between the velocities in the surface and those in the bottom layer, and these characteristics are more remarkable during the spring tide than the neap tide. The surface currents in the bay depend strongly on the wind and river inflow, and such phenomena are more remarkable during the neap tide than the spring tide.

  • Purpose : This study was analyzed to researched the improvement of the posture and breathing ability on correction method of posture and breathing exercise in Forward Head Posture(FHP) Method : Eighten forward head posture subjects participated in this study. The control group applied to correction method of posture and the experiment group applied to correction method of posture with breathing exercises. Results : The results showed significant improvement in Craniovertebra-Angle on each two group(P<0.05). All the other result showed non-significant in respiratory(Tidal volume, Expiratory residual volume, Inspiratory residual volume) But value of result is slightly improved in after exercise. Conclusion : CVA angle is increased in each group but not increased between experiment group and control group. Total Volume(TV), Inspiratory Reserve Volume(IRV) and Expiratory Reserve Volume(ERV) are a little increased.

  • In the persent study, we conducted numerical experiments using a three-dimensional baroclinic equation model and a Lagrangian method for clarifying the hydrodynamics in Osaka Bay under the yearly mean discharge and visualizing the behaviour of particles of different settling velocity discharged from Yodo River and sedimentation pattern on the sea bottom. Particles are transported from the Yodo River to the south direction by the residual circulation of the bay head at the first stage, and after most of suspended solids particles are settled down at any layer and returned in the south-east coastal area through bottom layers by an estuarine circulation. The results show that estuarine circulation plays an important part of suspended solids transportation in the Osaka Bay.

  • The volume transport and turnover time of the Deukryang Bay. located at the southern area of Korea, were calculated based on the current meter(RCM-7,ACM 16M) data observed at the three gateways of the tegrating observed data and then averaging on time. dangdo and Kogumdo. The total water volume transports through three entrances of the bay in May and October were $3.9{\times}10-2Sv, 3.4{\times}10^{-2}Sv(1Sv=10^6m^3s^{-1}$) and turnover time were 0.97day, 1.12day, respectively. Semidiurnal tides were predominant (70~85%). The water volume transports by residual currents were 2~4% of total water volume transports . The average fraction of fresh water calculated by tidal prism method using salinity difference between inflow current and outflow current through three entrances In Deukryang Bay was about 0.06% of total volume and the flushing time of fresh water was estimated as 0.97day.

  • Circulation in the Jinhae Bay in the southern sea of Korea is examined using the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) with a free surface in a sigma coordinate, governed by primitive equations. The model well corresponds to the time series of the observed velocities at several layers obtained from a long-term mooring observation. In the residual velocity field of the model, persistent downward flow fields are formed along the central deep regions in the bay, and they are caused by bottom topographic effect. In addition, a comparison between a depth-averaged (2D) model and the POM is given, and a dependance of the results on bottom drag coefficient is also examined.
