MICROLEAKAGE OF THE CLASS V CAVITY ACCORDING TO RESTORATION SITE AND CAVITY SIZE USING SEM AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL RECONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES (SEM과 3차원 재구성법을 이용한 수복면의 위치와 와동 크기에 따른 미세누출도 분석)

  • This study was done to evaluate whether there were any differences in microleakage of class V composite restorations according to restoration site and cavity size. Total sixty-four restorations were made in molar teeth using Esthet-X. Small ($2\;{\times}\;2\;{\times}\;1.5\;mm$) and large ($4{\times}2{\times}1.5\;mm$) restorations were made at the buccal/lingual surface and the proximal surface each. After 1,000 times of thermocycling ($5^{\circ}\;-\;55^{\circ}C$), resin replica was made and the percentage of marginal gap to the whole periphery of the restoration was estimated from SEM evaluation. Thermocycled tooth was dye penetrated with $50\%$ silver nitrate solution. After imbedding in an auto-curing resin, it was serially ground with a thickness of 0.25 mm. Volumetric microleakage was estimated after reconstructing three dimensionally. Two-way ANOVA and independent T-test for dye volume, Mann-Whitney U test for the percentage of marginal gap, Spearman's rho test for the relationship between two techniques were used, The results were as follows : 1. The site and size of the restoration affected on the microleakage of restoration. Namely, much more leakage was seen in the proximal and the large restorations rather than the buccal/lingual and the small restorations. 2. Close relationship was found between two techniques (Correlation coefficient = 0.614/ P = 0.000). Within the limits of this study, it was noted that proximal and the large restorations leaked more than buccal/lingual and the small restorations. Therefore, it should be strictly recommended large exposure of margins should be avoided by reducing unnecessary tooth reduction.

  • Purpose : Patient motion during magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is one of the major problems due to its long scan time. Entropy based post-processing motion correction techniques have been shown to correct motion artifact effectively. One of main limitations of these techniques however is its long processing time. In this study, we propose several methods to reduce this long processing time effectively. Materials and Methods : To reduce the long processing time, we used the separability property of two dimensional Fourier transform (2-D FT). Also, a computationally light metric (sum of all image pixel intensity) was used instead of the entropy criterion. Finally, partial Fourier reconstruction, in particular the projection onto convex set (POCS) method, was combined thereby reducing the size of the data which should be processed and corrected. Results : Time savings of each proposed method are presented with different data size of brain images. In vivo data were processed using the proposed method and showed similar image quality. The total processing time was reduced to 15% in two dimensional images and 30% in the three dimensional images. Conclusion : The proposed methods can be useful in reducing image motion artifacts when only post-processing motion correction algorithms are available. The proposed methods can also be combined with parallel imaging technique to further reduce the processing times.

Object-Based Integral Imaging Depth Extraction Using Segmentation (영상 분할을 이용한 객체 기반 집적영상 깊이 추출)

  • A novel method for the reconstruction of 3D shape and texture from elemental images has been proposed. Using this method, we can estimate a full 3D polygonal model of objects with seamless triangulation. But in the triangulation process, all the objects are stitched. This generates phantom surfaces that bridge depth discontinuities between different objects. To solve this problem we need to connect points only within a single object. We adopt a segmentation process to this end. The entire process of the proposed method is as follows. First, the central pixel of each elemental image is computed to extract spatial position of objects by correspondence analysis. Second, the object points of central pixels from neighboring elemental images are projected onto a specific elemental image. Then, the center sub-image is segmented and each object is labeled. We used the normalized cut algorithm for segmentation of the center sub-image. To enhance the speed of segmentation we applied the watershed algorithm before the normalized cut. Using the segmentation results, the subdivision process is applied to pixels only within the same objects. The refined grid is filtered with median and Gaussian filters to improve reconstruction quality. Finally, each vertex is connected and an object-based triangular mesh is formed. We conducted experiments using real objects and verified our proposed method.

Gait Analysis of Patients with Tumor Prosthesis around the Knee (인공 종양대치물을 이용한 사지구제술후의 보행 분석)

  • Prosthetic replacement is one of the most common methods of reconstruction after resection of malignant tumor around the knee. Gait analysis provides a relative objective data about the gait function of patients with prosthesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the gait pattern of the patients who underwent limb salvage surgery with prosthesis for distal femur and that of patients with prosthesis for proximal tibia. This study included ten patients (4 males, 6 females, mean age 22.7 years, range 14-36) who underwent a wide resection and Kotz hinged modular reconstruction prosthesis replacement and six normal adult(Control). The site of bone tumor was the distal femur (Group 1) in six patients and proximal tibia (Group 2) in 4 patients. The follow-up period ranged from 15 to 82 months (mean : 33 months). The evaluation consisted of clinical assessment, radiographic assessment, gait analysis using VICON 370 Motion Analysis System. The gait analysis included the linear parameters such as, walking velocity, cadence, step length, stride length, stance time, swing time, single support and double support time and the three-dimensional kinematics (joint rotation angle, velocity of joint rotation) of ankle, knee, hip and pelvis in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. For the kinetic evaluation, the moment of force (unit: Nm/kg) and power (unit: Watt/kg) of ankle, knee and hip joint in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. In the linear parameters, cadence, velocity, step time and single support were decreased in both group 1 and group 2 compared with control. Double support decreased in group 2 compared with control significantly(p<.05). In contrast to our hypothesis, there was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2.   • The final goal of our research is developing not a simple collision a1ann equipment for the blinded walkers, but the apparatus (Audio- Vision System) which can simulate vision based on auditory information so that the blinds can figure the three dimensional space in front of them. On the way to the final goal, in this study, simulation software was developed and verified. Thirty normal volunteers were included in the subject group and the average age Was 25.8 years old. After being accustomed to the system by evaluating 10 blinded virtual spaces, the volunteers performed test using another set of 10 blinded virtual spaces. The results of test were scored by shape, center, margin, and gradient surface of objects in virtual space. The score of each checking point ranged from 1 to 5, and the full score was converted to 100. As results of this study, the total score ranged from 77 to 97 with the average of 88.7. In this study, a simulation software was developed and verified to have acceptable success rale. By combining to visual sensors, the vision-reconstruction system based on auditory signal (Audio-vision System) may be developed.

  • Automation of welding process in shipyards is ultimately necessary, since the welding site is spatially enclosed by floors and girders, and therefore welding operators are exposed to hostile working conditions. To solve this problem, a welding mobile robot that can navigate autonomously within the enclosure has been developed. To achieve the welding task in the closed space, the robotic welding system needs a sensor system for the working environment recognition and the weld seam tracking, and a specially designed environment recognition strategy. In this paper, a three-dimensional laser vision system is developed based on the optical triangulation technology in order to provide robots with 3D work environmental map. Using this sensor system, a spatial filter based on neural network technology is designed for extracting the center of laser stripe, and evaluated in various situations. An environment modeling algorithm structure is proposed and tested, which is composed of the laser scanning module for 3D voxel modeling and the plane reconstruction module for mobile robot localization. Finally, an environmental recognition strategy for welding mobile robot is developed in order to recognize the work environments efficiently. The design of the sensor system, the algorithm for sensing the partially structured environment with plane segments, and the recognition strategy and tactics for sensing the work environment are described and discussed with a series of experiments in detail.

  • When a vehicle is running on the road, the surface conditions and environment of road by reason of insufficient road design standards is so greatly that have an effect on drivers. In particular, the road design of the past is conducted empirical and ideal judgment, but recently, the new technical development is attempted that three and four dimensional parameters is reconsidering and adjusting at the same time. In this study, we analyzed the vehicle behavior characteristics according to the change of driving speed and vertical grades on braking at the peak point of the frozen road by using a PC-crash program for traffic accident reconstruction. As a result, we were conformed the fact that the friction coefficient of road surface and the vehicle speed is affected by vehicle behavior characteristics for intersection vertical grades and were showed the feasibility of verification through a simulation in order to solve the problem of road design in advance.

Depth Extraction of Integral Imaging Using Correlation (상관관계를 활용한 집적 영상의 깊이 추출 방법)

  • In this paper, we present a depth extraction method of integral imaging using correlation between elemental images with phase only filter. Integral imaging is a passive three-dimensional (3D) imaging system records ray information of 3D objects through lenslet array by 2D image sensor, and displays 3D images by using the similar lenslet array. 2D images by lenslet array have different perspectives. These images are referred to as elemental images. Since the correlation can be calculated between elemental images, the depth information of 3D objects can be extracted. To obtain high correaltion between elemental images effectively, in this paper, we use phase only filter. Using this high correlation, the corresponding pixels between elemental images can be found so that depth information can be extracted by computational reconstruction technique. In this paper, to prove our method, we carry out optical experiment and calculate Peak Sidelobe Ratio (PSR) as a correlation metric.

Laparoscopic Distal Gastrectomy in a Patient with Situs Inversus Totalis: A Case Report

  • We report our experience with two cases of situs inversus totalis, both involving patients diagnosed with gastric cancer. These were a 52-year-old male with a preoperative staging of cT1bN0M0 and a 68-year-old male with a staging of cT2N0M0, both of whom underwent surgery. The former was found to have vascular anomalies in the preoperative computed tomography, so we performed a computed tomography angiography with three-dimensional reconstruction. Laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy with Billroth I anastomosis was performed with D1+ lymph node dissection, and a small laparotomy was made for extracorporeal anastomosis. In contrast, the latter case showed no vascular anomalies in the preoperative computed tomography, and totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with delta anastomosis was performed with D1+ lymph node dissection. There were no intraoperative problems in either patient and they were discharged without postoperative complications. Histopathological examination revealed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (pT2N0M0) and a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma (pT1aN0M0), respectively.

  • It is known that it is expedient to represent the distribution of the properties of a bone with complex heterogeneity as B-spline volume functions. For B-spline-based representation, the pixel values of CT images are interpolated by B-spline volume functions. However, the CT images of a bone are three-dimensional and very large, and hence a large amount of memory and long computation time for the interpolation are required. In this study, a method for resolving these problems is proposed. In the proposed method, the B-spline volume interpolation problem is simplified by using the uniformity of pixel spacing of the image and the properties of B-spline basis functions. This results in a reduction in computation time and the amount of memory used. The proposed method was implemented and it was verified that the computation time and the amount of memory used were reduced.
