융(Jung)의 원형론의 관점에서 본 궁궐 수공간의 상징성 - 공간구조와 디테일에 나타난 상징의미를 중심으로 - (An Interpretation of Symbols in Water Gardens of Old Palaces - Based on the Archetype Theory of Jung -)

  • 융은 인간의 의식과 무의식을 통합하여 자신의 전체성을 이루는 것이 곧 자기정체성을 갖는 것이라 했는데, '전체성' 즉 자기중심의 균형을 갖게 하는 능력이 원형의 기능이다. 원형은 각 문화와 시대에 따라 다양한 상징으로 표현된다. 본 연구에서는 여러 다른 문화권에 조성된 정원들을 분석하여 각각의 정원에 내재된 관념이 궁극적으로 인간의 정체성을 이루고자 하는 원형의 기능을 갖는지를 검토하고, 이에 따른 원형의 표상이 문화권에 따라 어떻게 정원에서 표현되는지를 고찰하고자 하였다. 먼저 대상지를 각 문화의 특성이 뚜렷이 구별될 수 있는 동양문화의 창덕궁 부용지(芙蓉池), 이슬람문화의 알람브라궁 사자의 정원, 서양문화의 베르사유궁 아폴로 분수로 선정하여, 각 정원을 분석한 결과 세 개의 정원 모두 자기중심 조절기능의 '균형 조화'와 인간을 보호하는 '수호신' 그리고 영생을 의미하는 '생명과 창조'의 원형을 갖고 있음이 드러났다. 부용지는 음양사상을 내재한 방지원도의 형태로, 사자의 정원은 이슬람 천국의 네 개의 강을 상징하는 십자형 수로와 에덴동산 물줄기를 상징하는 수반이 중심과 4분(分)의 형태로, 그리고 아폴로 분수는 태양이 가진 생명력의 상징이 원형(圓形)과 4각형이 중첩된 연못의 형태로 나타났다. 이는 모두 자기중심의 균형과 조화의 원형이 만다라의 형상으로 나타나고 아울러 생명의 우주론적 사상이 내재하고 있음을 보여준다. 각 정원에 내재한 관념은 모두 공통적인 원형을 갖고 있고, 이를 조성한 공간적 성격 역시 물을 주제로 한다는 공통점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 각 정원이 뚜렷하게 서로 다른 독특한 외형적 특성을 갖고 있는 것은 정원에 내재된 관념이 각 문화에 따라 고유한 사상으로 분화되고 이를 표현하는 공간구조와 디테일이 그들 문화에 따라 고유의 장소정체성을 형성하였기 때문이다. 결론적으로, 원형이 각 문화에 따른 관념을 통해 그 상징성을 드러냈고, 상징은 공간구조와 디테일에 의해 각 문화의 정체성을 표현했으며, 원형이 발현된 정원은 인간의 정신적인 균형을 갖게 하는 역할을 하였다.

도교의학(道敎醫學)에 관한 연구(硏究) (한의학(韓醫學)과 연관(聯關)된 부분(部分)을 중심(中心)으로) (The study of the relation between the medicine of Taoism and oriental medicine)

  • I have studied the relation between a Taoist(道家) and the oriental medicine(韓醫學), it is summerized as following. 1. According to the relation between a Taoist(道家) and the oriental medicine, Lao-tzu(老子)' mathematical principle that had an influence on Three yin-three yang(三陰三陽) theory of the oriental medicine, idea of natural philosopy(自然無爲) and the freedom from avarace(無慾) on the oriental medicine. 2. Vital essence and energy theory(精氣設) in a Taoist not only can be seen in Lao-tzu' Do dug gyung(老子道德經), Maengza(孟子), Guanza(管子), but also its principle has something to do with Nei Ching's Vital essence and energy theory(精氣設). 3. Danjungpa(丹鼎派) can be divided into Naedansul(內丹術) which preserves through the breath and Oedansul(外丹術) which makes one a Taoist hermit. If he takes magic portions(金丹), they had a great effect on Yangsanghak(養生學) and was actually concerned with oriental doctors who was known to us. 4. If medicine of Taoism is classified, it can be divided into three categories. Boiled solution(渴液), Pharmacopea "Ben cao"(本草), Acupuncture & moxibustion(針灸), Magic portions(外丹) are used in the first category. Chinese setting-up and Therapeutic exercises(導引), Josik(調息), Naedan(內丹), Byugok(辟榖), Naeshi(內視), Banjung(房中) belong to second category. The religious contents such as Bu(符), Jeum(占), Cheum(籤), Ju(呪), Je(齊), Gido(祈禱), taboo are implied in third category. 5. In the history of the medicine of Taoism and oriental medicine, they are called animism, shamanism, Mu(巫) or Ye(毉), not separated at first period. In the end of junguk(戰國時代), Ye(醫) was clearly distinguished from Mu(巫) and then Mu(巫) was developed into medicine of Taoism and ye(毉) into the present form of oriental medicine. 6. The oriental medicine doctors that are concerned with Taoism are Bakgo(伯高), Geyugu(鬼臾區), Soyu(少兪), Noigong(雷公), Pyujak(篇鵲), Sunuyi(淳于意), Hwata(華陀), Hwangbomil(皇甫謐), Hangang(韓康), Dongbong(童奉), Heuson(許遜), Galhong(葛洪), Dohongyung(陶弘景), Damlan(曇鸞), uyjajang(葦慈藏), Sonsanak(孫思邈), Wanguing(王氷), Jegonghwalbul(濟公活佛), Yuwanso(劉完素), Judonge(朱丹溪), Leesijin(李時珍), Johakmin(趙學敏), Ougu1(吳杰) etc. 7. The view of a human body in the medicine of Taoism affected the oriental medicine on the ground that man was regarded as a microcosm(小宇宙), so he was compared to a nation or heaven and earth. 8. The anatomy of medicine of Taoism gave a detail description of five visceras and each organs, the heart, center of mental function, Mirie(尾閭) which has an relationship to the training of Naedan(內丹修練). In this resrect, as it is accord with the acupunture point of oriental medicine, therefore we can find that Taoism influenced oriental medicine, also explicit study was achieved. 9. Acient people believed that the goo in the human lxxIy, one of the characteristics of the medicine of Taoism cured the patients and then protected him from the disease. If a man was taken ill, they had him cured by making the god's name which corresponded to its disease, calling him communicating with him, and asking him to deprive him of illness. This treatment was used to live and be kept young eternally. In this respects, we can see that they emphasized on the attitude of Bulchiyibeung chimibeung(不治己病治末病) and psychological treatment. 10. Samsi thoery(三尸說) that one's fortune, disaster, health, and disease in the world are at the mercy of his good or bad conduct, is concerned with Taoism and treatment with the oriental medicine. 11. Guchung(九蟲) is more closly associated with the religious aspect rather than with the medical aspect. Because of the similarity of the mcdern parasitism, its study has an important meaning. 12. The respect for the human life is reflected in jeunsi(傳屍), with Samsi-guchung theory(三尸九蟲說), which is considered as mxIern tuberculosis.

『동의수세보원(東醫壽世保元)』 태소음양인(太少陰陽人)의 「병증론(病證論)」에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (The Study about 「The Discourse on the Constitutional Symptoms and Diseases」 of Sasangin on the 『Dongyi Suse Bowon』)

  • 1. 연구 목적 사상의학(四象醫學)의 체질증(體質證)과 체질병증(體質病證)의 접근에는 기존 증치의학(證治醫學)과는 다른 통증(痛症)에 대한 시각을 제시하고, 사상의학(四象醫學) 고유 술어로 병리(病理)나 병증(病證)을 설명하여 기존 개념과 혼돈되며, "성명론(性命論)", "사단론(四端論)", "확윤론(擴允論)", "장부론(臟腑論)"을 통해 제시한 인간관(人間觀)과 세계관(世界觀). 이들 간의 조직 원리가 "병증론(病證論)"을 통해 몸에 구현되므로 사상의학(四象醫學)의 병증용약(病證用藥)에 어려움을 느끼게 된다. 그러나 사상의학(四象醫學)도 기존의 증치의학(證治醫學)을 바탕으로 하고 있어 기존의 의학에서 사상의학(四象醫學)이 성립되는 과정과 이제마(李濟馬)의 인간관으로 "병증론(病證論)"을 접근하여 사상의학(四象醫學)의 체질증(體質證)과 체질병증(體質病證)에 대한 정확한 이해를 돕고자 하였다. 2. 연구 방법 문헌적 구로 태소음양인(太少陰陽人)의 병증(病證)을 설명하기 위해 "상한론(傷寒論)", "활인서(活人書)" 등 인용 원서의 병증(病證) 인식(認識)과 이를 인용한 "동의보감(東醫寶鑑)"에서의 병증(病證)을 비교하고 이것이 태소음양인(太少陰陽人)의 체질증(體質證)과 체질병증(體質病證)으로 자리매김되는 과정을 파악하고 그 병리(病理)와 병증(病證)을 "동의수세보원(東醫壽世保元)"의 "성명론(性命論)", "사단론(四端論)", "확윤론(擴允論)", "장부론(臟腑論)"을 통해 드러나는 인간관의 체계로 파악하고자 하였다. 3. 결론 태소음양인의 병증론을 통해 표리병증의 인식 배경과 변화 과정 표리병증의 특징, 체질증과 체질병증의 출발점인 소증의 인식, 기존 의학과 다른 체질병증, 태소음양인의 병증의 특징 등을 살펴 사상의학 체질병증에 대한 결론을 얻어 보고하는 바이다.

Isolation of Probiotic Piliated Lactobacillus rhamnosus Strains from Human Fecal Microbiota Using SpaA Antiserum-Based Colony Immunoblotting

  • Piliated Lactobacillus rhamnosus (pLR) strains possess higher adherent capacity than non-piliated strains. The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize probiotic pLR strains in human fecal samples. To this end, mouse polyclonal antiserum (anti-SpaA) against the recombinant pilus protein (SpaA) of L. rhamnosus strain GG (LGG) was prepared and tested for its reactivity and specificity. With the anti-SpaA, a method combining the de Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) agar plating separation and colony immunoblotting (CIB) was developed to isolate pLR from 124 human fecal samples. The genetic and phenotypic characteristics of the resultant pLR isolates were compared by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting, and examination of adhesion to Caco-2 cells, hydrophobicity, autoaggregation, and in vitro gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA specifically reacted with three pLR strains of 25 test strains, as assessed by western blotting, immunofluorescence flow cytometry, and immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) assays. The optimized MRS agar separation plus anti-SpaA-based CIB procedure could quantitatively detect $2.5{\times}10^3CFU/ml$ of pLR colonies spiked in $10^6CFU/ml$ of background bacteria. Eight pLR strains were identified in 124 human fecal samples, and were confirmed by 16S RNA gene sequencing and IEM identification. RAPD fingerprinting of the pLR strains revealed seven different patterns, of which only two isolates from infants showed the same RAPD profiles with LGG. Strain PLR06 was obtained with high adhesion and autoaggregation activities, hydrophobicity, and gastrointestinal tolerance. Anti-SpaA-based CIB is a rapid and inexpensive method for the preliminary screening of novel adherent L. rhamnosus strains for commercial purposes.

서영태(徐靈胎)와 길익동동(吉益東洞)의 학술사상 비교 연구 (II) - 학술 사상이 같고 다른 원인에 대한 분석 - (Comparative Study About Academic Thoughts of Xu Lingtai and Yoshimasu Todo (II) - Analysis of the Cause of Similarities and Differences in their Academic Thoughts -)

  • In the 18th century, Xu Lingtai (徐靈胎) and Yoshimasu Todo (吉益東洞) were medical revolutionaries. They emphasized researches about synthesis of formulae, efficacy of medication and observation and then classification of clinical phenomena, so they assumed a modern scientific character. But, there were clear differences between their academic thoughts. In this paper, we examine the causes of difference in three fields, i.e. traditional culture, viewpoints of talented people and academic personality. The first, difference was due to traditional culture. Chinese medicine has a long history and heavy traditional culture. Yin-Yang (陰陽) theory, Five Phase(五行) theory, Viscera and Bowels (臟腑) theory and Meridian and Collateral (經絡) theory stemmed from everyday practice, and Chinese people learn these theories from experience and observation. From the standpoint of Chinese people, particularly scholarly doctors [儒醫] such as Xu Lingtai, it was easy to debate medical theories. In contrast, Japanese traditional culture didn't have as long a history as China. Thus as a necessity, it was harder to disseminate traditional Chinese medicine theories in Japan. Yoshimasu Todo simplified it by cutting out the superfluous traditional Chinese medicine theory, so at that time it must have been shocking to the Japanese medical world's trends. The second, difference was due to viewpoints of talented experts. From the standpoint of Xu Lingtai, above all, medicine is just a learning, only a kind of technique, even more not a means of living. Xu Lingtai was concerned with the appearance of very talented experts such as 'great man' (偉人), and 'exceptional man' (奇士) who carried out medical research. Instead of cultivating a few talented people, Yoshimasu Todo tried to produce a large number of clinicians quickly who could treat ordinary people. The third was due to personality difference. As Xu Lingtai threw away Confucianism and studied medicine in his youth, although he had a critical attitude, he was always mild-mannered. Yoshimasu Todo always had a clearly critical and rebellious nature. Personality influenced their literary spirit and learning style, so although both advocated reactionism, the academic thought of Xu Lingtai was reformative and mild, while that of Yoshimasu Todo was revolutionary and fierce. Xu Lingtai and Yoshimasu Todo had considerably similar research domains and academic thought, so it is proper for them both to serve as examples for making a comparative study of medical history in China and Japan in 18th century.

RhGLP-1 (7-36) protects diabetic rats against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via up-regulating expression of Nrf2/HO-1 and increasing the activities of SOD

  • The present study aimed to explore the neuroprotective effect and possible mechanisms of rhGLP-1 (7-36) against transient ischemia/reperfusion injuries induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in type 2 diabetic rats. First, diabetic rats were established by a combination of a high-fat diet and low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) (30 mg/kg, intraperitoneally). Second, they were subjected to MCAO for 2 h, then treated with rhGLP-1 (7-36) (10, 20, $40{\mu}g/kg$ i.p.) at the same time of reperfusion. In the following 3 days, they were injected with rhGLP-1 (7-36) at the same dose and route for three times each day. After 72 h, hypoglycemic effects were assessed by blood glucose changes, and neuroprotective effects were evaluated by neurological deficits, infarct volume and histomorphology. Mechanisms were investigated by detecting the distribution and expression of the nuclear factor erythroid-derived factor 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) in ischemic brain tissue, the levels of phospho-PI3 kinase (PI3K)/PI3K ratio and heme-oxygenase-1 (HO-l), as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA). Our results showed that rhGLP-1 (7-36) significantly reduced blood glucose and infarction volume, alleviated neurological deficits, enhanced the density of surviving neurons and vascular proliferation. The nuclear positive cells ratio and expression of Nrf2, the levels of P-PI3K/PI3K ratio and HO-l increased, the activities of SOD increased and the contents of MDA decreased. The current results indicated the protective effect of rhGLP-1 (7-36) in diabetic rats following MCAO/R that may be concerned with reducing blood glucose, up-regulating expression of Nrf2/HO-1 and increasing the activities of SOD.

Seroprevalence and Risk Factors of Fascioliasis in Yaks, Bos grunniens, from Three Counties of Gansu Province, China

  • The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence and risk factors of fascioliasis in yaks, Bos grunniens, from 3 counties of Gansu Province in China. A total of 1,584 serum samples, including 974 samples from white yaks from Tianzhu, 464 from black yaks from Maqu, and 146 from black yaks from Luqu County, were collected and analyzed using ELISA to detect IgG antibodies against Fasciola hepatica. The overall F. hepatica seroprevalence was 28.7% (454/1,584), with 29.2% in white yaks (284/974) and 27.9% in black yaks (170/610). The seroprevalence of F. hepatica in yaks from Tianzhu, Luqu, and Maqu was 29.2%, 22.6%, and 29.5%, respectively. Female yaks (30.9%) had higher F. hepatica seroprevalence than male yaks (23.4%). Also, F. hepatica seroprevalence varied by different age group from 24.1% to 33.8%. Further, the seroprevalence ranged from 21.8% to 39.1% over different seasons. Interestingly, the season and age of yaks were associated with F. hepatica infection in yaks in the investigated areas. These findings provided a basis for further studies on this disease in yaks from 3 counties of Gansu Province in northwestern China, which may ultimately support the development of effective control strategies of fascioliasis in these areas.

Efficacy of Taxane-Based Regimens in a First-line Setting for Recurrent and/or Metastatic Chinese Patients with Esophageal Cancer

  • Objective: To compare the efficacy of taxane-based regimens in the first line setting retrospectively in Chinese patients with recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer. Methods: We analyzed 102 recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer patients who received taxanes-based regimens in a first-line setting from January 2009 to December 2013. Sixteen (15.7%) patients were administered Nab-PTX based chemotherapy and 86 patients (84.3%) received paclitaxel (PTX) or docetaxel (DTX) based chemotherapy. Patients in the PTX/DTX group could be further divided into TP (71 patients) and TPF (15 patients) groups. Results: The objective response rate (ORR) of all patients was 20.6%, and the disease control rate (DCR) was 67.6%. The median overall survival (OS) was 10.5 months (95% CI 10.1-16.4) and the median progression-free survival (PFS) was 6.04 months (95% CI 5.09-7.91). The DCR was higher in the TPF group than the TP group (93.3% vs. 59.1%; p = 0.015 ). There were no significant differences in ORR, OS, and PFS among Nab-PTX, TPF and TP groups. Conclusions: The three regimens of Nab-PTX based, TP and TPF proved active in a first line setting of Chinese patients with recurrent and/or metastatic esophageal cancer, and should thus be regarded as alternative treatments.

Lack of Association of Three Common Polymorphisms in Toll-like receptors (TLRs), TLR2+597T>C, +1350C>T and Arg753Gln with Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

  • Background: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) occurring in Toll-like receptors (TLRs) may contribute to cancer risk. Many polymorphisms of TLR2 have been studied for associations, but the findings are conflicting. Methodology/Principal Findings: We performed a meta-analysis of 14 studies to confirm the association between TLR2+597T>C (rs3804099), +1350C>T (rs3804100) and Arg753Gln (rs5743708) polymorphisms and cancer risk. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were used to assess the strength of associations. There was no significant association between TLR2+597T>C and cancer risk in the codominant models (CC vs. TT: OR = 1.01, 95%CI = 0.86-1.17, $P_{heterogeneity}=0.148$; CT vs. TT: OR = 0.92, 95%CI = 0.69-1.23, $P_{heterogeneity}$ < 0.001), the recessive model (CC vs. CT+TT: OR = 0.86, 95%CI = 0.67-1.10, $P_{heterogeneity}=0.007$), the dominant model (CC+CT vs. TT: OR = 0.93, 95%CI = 0.76-1.15, $P_{heterogeneity}=0.001$) and the allele model (C vs. T: OR =0.93, 95%CI = 0.81-1.08, $P_{heterogeneity}=0.019$). Similarly, no significant associations between TLR2+1350C>T, Arg753Gln polymorphisms and cancer risk were found. However, in the sub-group analysis of ethnicities, the trend of pooled ORs in Asians was opposite to Caucasians. Conclusions: The present meta-analysis suggests that TLR2+597T>C (rs3804099), +1350C>T (rs3804100) and Arg753Gln (rs5743708) polymorphisms are not associated with cancer risk.

다원주의 시대에서 대순사상의 세계시민성 가치연구 (A Study on the World Citizenship Values of Daesoon Thoughts in the Era of the Plural Society)

  • This article intends to examine the value of the world citizenship in the perspective from the root meaning that is stressed as the behavior style of Daesoon thoughts in relation with 'desirable attitude of life in education of morality. Traditional root meaning of Daesoon thoughts turned out to be proper moral behavior principle such as Yin Yang harmonious virtue, God Humane keeping unity, and conviviality with regrets settlement. Such three principles of Daesoon Thoughts show the characteristic of global code such as respect of life, solidarity unity, and tolerant trust. To revise the phenomenon of duality, and to realize the human awakening in radically changing reality, we need to cultivate world citizenship based on the root meaning of Daesoon thoughts. Daesoon thoughts covering the East and the West, especially the key features of religion, can cultivate the world view of citizenship in the era of plural society based on folk beliefs toward Gucheon Sangje faith as the essence of the multiplism. The world citizenship of human society is necessary to unite the world in the unified construction cooperative spirits. All beings need to be away from antagonistic confrontation with the practice of mutual conviviality. The diameter of acquired joining world citizenship can have the opportunity to realize of Gucheon Sangje's Heaven and earth construction. The root meaning of Daesoon thoughts can contribute to moral practicality with world citizenship by practice of heavenly truth and human truth. First, cultivating heavenly truth by means of insight can develope the profound world citizenship. Secondly, the solidarity of the public and private can cultivate public citizenship. Thirdly, in the crisis of the mankind, this awakening conviviality can be foundation for world citizenship of public communication. Fourthly, the spirit that would not deceive ownself can be contributed to cultivating the world citizenship by means of the process of internalizing Daesoon thoughts. Nowadays in the plural society demanding world citizenship, the public citizenship can deepen the spirit of respect of life, solidarity unity, and tolerant trust in the process of world citizenship cultivation. In the future, the world citizenship can be deepen the alternative of practice in the continuous cultivation of world citizenship.
