The Analysis of Insulation Properties with Electron Collision Processes on SF6 Mixture Gases (전자충돌과정을 통한 SF6 혼합기체의 절연특성 분석)

  • $SF_6$ gas would be used in power transformer, GIS (Gas insulated switchgear) and so on because of its electrically superior insulation and chemically stable structure. Recently, the reduction of $SF_6$ is required to avoid global warming and the researches on the dilution of $SF_6$ with other gases have been carried out. $SF_6$ mixture gases with $N_2$ and $C_xF_y$ have drawn attention to the synergy effect. However, in order to understand the mechanism of the synergy effect, it is important to analyze and evaluate properties of mixture gases quantitatively. In this paper, we investigated the mechanism of synergy effect from electron collision processes and electron energy distribution by solving Boltzmann equation with propagator method. Three kinds of gases for dilution of $SF_6$ ($SF_6/N_2$, $SF_6/CF$4 and $SF_6/C_4F_8$) are considered in this simulation. On the properties of $SF_6/N_2$ mixture gas, the variation of reduced electric field was shown highly within 0%~40% mixtures of $SF_6$. And the more low-level electron energy has been distributed, the higher insulation capability has appeared.

  • With recent experiments to add He atoms to the Ne-Xe discharge gas mixture for high luminous efficiency PDPs, we have performed simulations on a coplanar structured AC-PDP sustained in the three species He-Ne-Xe gas mixture. We found that the correct ion mobilities are essential to get the meaningful simulation results. We determined ion mobilities in the mixture gas and presented the calculated results regarding the influence of ion mobilities on discharge characteristics.

Gas Sensing Characteristics of Ru doped-WO3 Micro Gas Sensors (루테늄이 첨가된 텅스텐 산화물을 이용한 마이크로 가스 센서의 암모니아 가스 감지 특성)

  • In this study, micro gas sensors for ammonia gas were prepared by adopting MEMS technology and using a sol-gel process. Three types of sensors were prepared via different synthesis routes starting with W sol and Ru sol mixture. This mixture was deposited on a MEMS platform and the platform was subsegueny heated to a temperature of $350^{\circ}C$. The topography and crystal structure of the sensing film were studied using FE-SEM and XRD. The response of the gas sensor to $NH_3$ gas was examined at various operating temperatures and gas concentrations. The sensor response increased almost linearly with gas concentration and the best sensing response was obtained at $333^{\circ}C$ for 5.0 ppm $NH_3$ for the specimen prepared by coating $WO_3$ powders with the Ru sol mixture.

  • In this study, the viscosity of a $CO_2-gas$ mixture was investigated for the transportation of the captured $CO_2-gas$ in pipelines and for the designing of a thermal system, both of which involve the utilization of the $CO_2-gas$ mixture. The viscosities of the $CO_2-gas$ mixture, $CO_2+CH_4$, $CO_2+H_2S$, and $CO_2+N_2$ were predicted using three different models as follows : Chung, TRAPP, and REFPROP. The predictability values of the models were validated by comparing the estimated results with the experiment data for the $CO_2+CH_4$ and $CO_2+N_2$ under high-density conditions. The Chung model showed 2.41%, which is the lowest mean deviation of the prediction among the model. Based on the Chung model, the mixture mole fractions were changed from 0.9, 0.95, and 0.97, the mixture pressure was ranged from 80 bar to 120 bar by 10 bar, and the mixture temperature was varied from 310 K to 400 K by 10 K to observe the effects of the parameters on the mixture viscosity. Considering the high mole fraction of the $CO_2$ in the mixture, a significant variation of the mixture viscosity was observed close to the pseudo-critical temperature, and the viscosity for the $CO_2+H_2S$ mixture shows the highest values compared with those of the $CO_2+CH_4$ and $CO_2+N_2$.

  • A study has been conducted to provide the experimental information for the velocity and temperature profiles of steam-air mixutre and to investigate their roles on the film condensation with wavy interface. Saturated gas mixture of steam-air was made to flow through the nearly horizontal$(4.1^{\circ})$ square duct of 0.1m width and 1.56m length at atmospheric pressure, and was condensated on the bottom cold plate. The air mass fraction in the gas mixture was changed from zero(W =0, pure steam) to one(W =1, pure air), and the bulk velocity was varied from 2 to 4 m/s. Water film was injected concurrently to investigate the effect of wavy interface on the condensation. The velocity and temperature profiles were measured by LDA system and thermocouples along the three parameters ; air mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The profiles moved toward the interface with increasing steam mass fraction, mixture velocity and film flow rate. The Prandtl and Schmidt numbers were near one in the present experimental range, however there was no complete similarity between the velocity and temperature profiles of gas mixture. And the heat transfer characteristics and interfacial structure were coupled with each other.

Analysis on Temperature Distribution and Current-Carrying Capacity of GIL Filled with Fluoronitriles-CO2 Gas Mixture

  • Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixtures are promising alternatives to $SF_6$ in environmentally-friendly gas-insulated transmission lines (GILs). Insulating gas heat transfer characteristics are of major significance for the current-carrying capacity design and operational state monitoring of GILs. In this paper, a three-dimensional calculation model was established for a GIL using the thermal-fluid coupled finite element method. The calculated results showed close agreement with experimentally measured data. The temperature distribution of a GIL filled with the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ mixture was obtained and compared with those of GILs filled with $CO_2$ and $SF_6$. Furthermore, the effects of the mixture ratio of the component gases and the gas pressure on the temperature rise and current-carrying capacity of the GIL were analyzed. Results indicated that the heat transfer performance of the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixture was better than that of $CO_2$ but worse than that of $SF_6$. When compared with $SF_6$, use of the Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixture caused a reduction in the GIL's current-carrying capacity. In addition, increasing the Fluoronitriles gas component ratio or increasing the pressure of the insulating gas mixture could improve the heat dissipation and current-carrying capacity of the GIL. These research results can be used to design environmentally-friendly GILs containing Fluoronitriles-$CO_2$ gas mixtures.

  • The effects of intake mixture temperature on performance and exhaust emissions under four kinds of engine loads were experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle four-cylinder, swirl chamber type, water-cooled diesel engine with scrubber EGR system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The purpose of this study is to develop the scrubber exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) control system for reducing $NO_x$ and soot emissions simultaneously in diesel engines. The EGR system is used to reduce NOx emissions. And a novel diesel soot-removal device with a cylinder-type scrubber which has five water injection nozzles is specially designed and manufactured to reduce soot contents in the recirculated exhaust gas to the intake system of the engine. The influences of cooled EGR and water injection, however, would be included within those of scrubber EGR system. In order to study the effect of intake mixture temperature, a intake mixture heating device which has five heating coils is made of a steel drum. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate is considerably elevated by the increase of intake mixture temperature, and that NOx emissions are markedly decreased as EGR rates are increased and intake mixture temperature is dropped, while soot emissions are increased with increasing EGR rates and intake mixture temperature.

  • The conventional natural gas engine realized lean combustion for the improved efficiency. However, in order to cope with exhaust gas regulations enforced gradually, the interest has shifted at the stoichiometric mixture combustion system. The stoichiometric mixture combustion method has the advantage of a three-way catalyst utilization whose purification efficiency is high, but the problem of thermal durability and the fuel economy remains as a challenge. Hydrogen-natural gas blend fuel (HCNG) can increase the rate of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) because the hydrogen increases burning speed and lean flammability limit. The increase in the EGR rate can have a positive impact on heat resistance of the engine due to the decreased combustion temperature, and further can increase the compression ratio for efficient combustion. In this study, to minimize the exhaust emission developed HCNG engine with stoichiometric combustion method, developed three-way catalyst was applied to evaluate the conversion characteristics. The tests were carried out during the steady state and transient operating conditions, and the results were compared for both the conventional and proto-three-way catalyst of HCNG engine for city buses.

Thus one can conclude that the performance and exhaust emissions are considerably influenced by the cooled EGR.

The Role of Oxygen in Bunsen Reaction Section of Sulfur-Iodine Hydrogen Production Process (황-요오드 수소 제조 공정의 분젠 반응 부분에서 $O_2$의 역할)

  • The Sulfur-Iodine (SI) thermochemical hydrogen production process of a closed cycle consists of three sections, which are so called the Bunsen reaction section, the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section and the HI decomposition section. To identify the role of oxygen that can be supplied to the Bunsen reaction section via the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section, Bunsen reactions with a $SO_2,\;SO_2-O_2$ mixture and $SO_2-N_2$ mixture as feed gases were carried out using a stirred reactor in the presence of $I_2/H_2O$ mixture. As the results, the amounts of $I_2$ unreacted under the feed of mixture gases were higher than those under the feed of $SO_2$ gas only, and the amount of HI produced was relatively decreased. The results of Bunsen reaction using $SO_2-O_2$ mixture were similar to those using $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. It may be concluded that an oxygen in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture has a role as a carrier gas like a nitrogen in $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. The effects of oxygen were decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing oxygen content in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture.
