  • Recently, there are many structures exposed to severe outdoor environments, which results in rapid degradation of durability of the concrete structures. there can be rapid deterioration of the concrete structures from early frost damage due to the insufficient curing in low outdoor temperature condition. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of thickness change conditions and binding material on early frost damage depth of the concrete exposed to cold weather in winter, and is to clearly assess damage depth of the concrete structure due to early frost damage. Specimens with 300x300x(150, 200, 250, 300mm) were prepared. OPC and OPC+FA+BS were adopted for binders. Test results indicate that the depth of the early frost damage was deeper with the decrease of thickness of members. The brightness of specimens were reduced when the member thickness was thinner. When determining the depth of early frost damage, it can be distinguished into dark color and relatively bright color when dried for approximately 30 minutes in the indoors of $20^{\circ}C$ in temperature and 60% in relative humidity after submerging in water for 24 hours. The dark colored part can be determined easily when measured with vernier calipers.

  • The royal seal, in either gold or jade, is used to symbolize Joseon's royal family, and it is made up of a Bonu (a handle), Bosin (a body), Bomun (a letter inscribed on the seal), and Bosu (a string attached to the seal). The Bosu was designed to enhance the seal's dignity and facilitate convenient handling. Bosu consists of Kkeun-mog and Bangwool-sul (decorated with gilt paper), which are made of Bangwool, Bangwool-mog, and Sul. In this study, the form survey, color, material, and composition of 318 Bosu pieces from the Joseon Dynasty and Korean Empire produced from 1441 to 1928 were analyzed. As time passed, the strings on the seals became longer and thinner. Bangwool-mog disappeared from the mid-1800s, and a ring appeared at the end of the Sul. Most of the colors used were scarlet, but orange and purple were also identified. Although most of the Bosu are silk, five Bosu from the 1900s and one Bosu from the 1740s (likely replaced in the 1900s) are estimated to be rayon. The gilt paper's main chemical components used to decorate the Bangwool-sul vary according to age. Until the mid-1800s, gold (Au) was used for the Sul and Bangwool, but since the mid-1800s, gold (Au) and brass (Cu-Zn) were used for Sul and Bangwool, respectively, and then brass (Cu-Zn) was used for Sul and Bangwool. While the Bosu was a seal accessory, it can be used to identify changes in the manufacturing techniques and materials of the period.

  • 'Gondalbi' (Ligularia stenocephala (Maxim.) Matsum. & Koidz.) is the most cultivated Gomchwi species because of higher yield and low in aromatic flavor and bitter taste, But 'Gondalbi' is susceptible to powdery mildew disease and leaf shriveling after harvest in Summer. To improve powdery mildew disease resistance and post-harvest leaf shriveling problem in 'Gondalbi', 'Handeari-gomchwi' resistant to powdery mildew disease and having higher yield potential used as a paternal trait donor. Powdery mildew disease resistance and post-harvest leaf shriveling as well as agronomic performance of a new variety, 'Greenbear' were tested under field and green house conditions in Pyungchang, Korea from 2007 to 2016. Expression of both maternal and paternal characteristics in 'Greenbear' including purple colored petiole ears, glossy leaf and paternal, petiole trichome, absent at the back of a leaf were confirmed. Plant size and flowering time of 'Greenbear' were similar to check line, 'Gommany', while leaf number per plant and yield were higher in 'Greenbear'. 'Greenbear' has thinner leaves (0.66mm) compared to 'Gommany (0.69 mm)', and hardness appeared slightly higher in 'Greenbear(25.1 kg/cm2)'. The resistance to powdery mildew disease of the 'Greenbear' variety was slightly lower than that of the 'Gommany' variety, but somewhat showed high resistance.

  • Recently, research on cost reduction and efficiency improvement of crystalline silicon(c-Si) photovoltaic(PV) module has been conducted. In order to reduce costs, the thickness of solar cell wafers is becoming thinner. If the thickness of the wafer is reduced, cracking of wafer may occur in high temperature processes during the c-Si PV module manufacturing process. To solve this problem, a low temperature process has been proposed. Conductive paste(CP) is used for low temperature processing; it contains Sn57.6Bi0.4Ag component and can be electrically combined with solar cells and ribbons at a melting point of $150^{\circ}C$. Use of CP in the PV module manufacturing process can minimize cracks of solar cells. When CP is applied to solar cells, the output varies with the amount of CP, and so the optimum amount of CP must be found. In this paper, in order to find the optimal CP application amount, we manufactured several c-Si PV modules with different CP amounts. The amount control of CP is fixed at air pressure (500 kPa) and nozzle diameter 22G(outer diameter 0.72Ø, inner 0.42Ø) of dispenser; only speed is controlled. The c-Si PV module output is measured to analyze the difference according to the amount of CP and analyzed by optical microscope and Alpha-step. As the result, the optimum amount of CP is 0.452 ~ 0.544 g on solar cells.

  • A new cultivar of oak mushroom 'Dadam' was bred from monokaryotic strains of 'GMLE36062-4' and 'GMLE36288-34'. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth of the new cultivar 'Dadam' on potato dextrose agar was 19-22℃. Total cultivation period of the new cultivar, from innoculation to its first harvest, was 135-139 days, similar to that of the control cultivar 'Hwadam'. The pileus color and stipe thickness of the new cultivar were darker and thinner than those of 'Hwadam'. Total yield of 'Dadam' was 621 g per 3 kg substrate, and is higher than that of 'Hwadam' (371 g). In farmhouse field test, it showed that the period of mycelial growth, browning, and fruiting body formation were the same as those of the control cultivar L808. The number of available fruiting bodies of 'Dadam' was 15, and is lower than that of the control (47), therefore, it was possible to save workforce in thinning. The total yield for 2 flush was 480 g for 'Dadam', similar to the 473 g of the control cultivar.

  • The demand for faster, lighter, and thinner portable electronic devices has brought about a change in semiconductor packaging technology. In response, a stacked chip-scale package(SCSP) is used widely in the assembly industry. One of the key materials for SCSP is a die-attach film (DAF). Excellent flowability is needed for DAF for successful die attachment without voids. For DAF with high flowability, two-step curing is often required to reduce a cure crack, but one-step curing is needed to reduce the processing time. In this study, DAF composition was categorized into three groups: cure (epoxy resins), soft (rubbers), hard (phenoxy resin, silica) component. The effect of the composition on a cure crack was examined when one-step curing was applied. The die-attach void and flowability were also assessed. The cure crack decreased as the amount of hard components decreased. Die-attach voids also decreased as the amount of hard components decreased. Moreover, the decrease in cure component became important when the amount of hard component was small. The flowability was evaluated using high-temperature storage modulus and bleed-out. A decrease in the amount of hard components was critical for the low storage modulus at 100℃. An increase in cure component and a decrease in hard component were important for the high bleed-out at 120℃(BL-120).

  • Black polymer spacers are currently used for physically separating aligned camera lenses in camera modules of mobile phones. However, the mechanical properties of polymer spacers have their limits, especially in the current trend of using more lenses in thinner camera modules. Thus, copper (Cu) becomes a good candidate for those polymer spacers because of its superior mechanical properties and its inherent blackness due to its black surfaced oxides, such as copper (II) oxide (cupric oxide, CuO). The latter property is critical in quality control because the closer the color of a spacer is to black, the less light interference and flaring phenomena can occur. A standard Cu blackening process and its operational conditions were proposed in this study through a comprehensive analysis of previous research and patents. The Cu blackening process is composed of cleaning, deoxidizing, activating, blackening and sealing. The effects of operational parameters, such as the temperature of each unit process and the activator concentration, were then investigated by measuring the blackness of the Cu strips with a colorimeter. The proposed operational conditions were determined by whether the blackness of Cu strips was within the on-spec. value used in the field.

  • This paper describes the consevation treatment of eleven bigyeokjincheolloe bomb shells that were excavated from the Joseon-period local government office and fortress of Mujang-hyeon (present-day Mujang-myeon) in Gochang in 2018. It also provides information on the production method of the shells revealed through CT scanning, gamma-ray transmission imaging, and metallographic analysis. In preparation for the special exhibition "Bigyeokjincheolloe" at the Jinju National Museum in 2019 (July 16 to August 25), contaminants were removed from the shells and their surface was reinforced during the first phase of conservation treatment. Furthermore, the closures for the shells were identified for the first time. Regarding the production of the shells, the CT scanning and gamma-ray transmission imaging identified many blowholes in the interior of the body and the use of a chaplet on the side of one shell. The side of the body proved to be relatively thinner than the top and bottom. The traces of a hole for pouring molten metal into the center of the bottom indicates that molten metal was indeed emptied into the inverted body. In the metallographic analysis of two of the bodies and one lid, cementite and pearlite structures were identified on the body, indicating that it was made by casting. The presence of the ferrite structure with a partial distribution of the pearlite along with non-metallic inclusion in the lid suggested that the lid was made by forging.

  • Indonesia coal is widely consumed as a major energy source in Asian countries, such as China, India, and Korea. In the paper, the characteristics of the coal-bearing basin and coal deposits in Indonesia are comprehensively reviewed using the exploration data accumulated through the coal exploration projects supported by Korean government subsidy. Cenozoic coal bearing sedimentary basins in Indonesia extensively contain coal deposits and are most productive in East Asia. Properties of coal deposits are variable depending on stratigraphy, depositional histories and tectonics. Eocene coal deposits tend to have thinner coal thickness and fewer numbers of coal seams, but have been major exploration targets due to higher calorific value and good coal quality. Late Oligocene-Early Miocene coal deposits occur in small scales, but are suitable enough for small to medium-sized coal mines. Miocene-Pliocene coal deposits, which are widely distributed across East Kalimantan and Sumatra, are being actively mined by taking advantage of thick coal thickness and abundant reserves in spite of their lower calorific values. The experience of various exploration informs that we need to have an overall understanding on geological conditions for successful coal exploration. The details on coal-bearing basin and coal deposits in Indonesia provided through the paper will be useful data for up-coming exploration activities by Korean companies.

  • Expandable steel pipe piles are installed by inserting expansion equipment to increase the cross-sectional area of steel pipes, which can improve the pile performance compared to micro-piles. In this paper, a hydraulic expansion device was developed to expand steel pipe piles in practice. A series of laboratory and field tests were conducted to verify the performance of the developed expansion device to expand steel pipes. The expansion capability and expandable range was evaluated by measuring the strain and expansion time at the maximum pressure of the hydraulic expansion device. The thinner steel pipe, the larger strain but longer expansion time required in the test. For example, the 4.0-mm-thick steel pipe showed strain reduction by 30% and a decrease in the required expansion time by 40% compared to the 2.9-mm-thick steel pipe. In addition, in-situ expansion tests were performed to verify the expandability of steel pipes under the ground, and the exhumed specimen showed clear expanded sections. The structural integrity was determined by comparing the material performance the original and expanded specimens.
