Modified atmosphere packaging was applied to oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) to study the effect of storage temperatures and packaging materialso. Whole mushrooms (200g) were package with polyethylene film $(PE,\;60{\mu}m\;thickness)$, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), or ceramic film (containing 5% zeolite) and stored at 0, 5, 10 and $20^{\circ}C$. Weight loss, color, firmness, gas composition $(O_2,\;CO_2)$ inside the film package and ethanol content in the tissue of MA packaged mushrooms were examined. Mushroom that were packed unwrapped in a conventional hardboard box (2 kg) lost marketability at a very early stage of storage due to weight loss, shrinkage, browning, and spore formation. During storage, film packaging prevented or retarded the deterioration of the mushrooms in the aspects of appearance, texture, and discoloration. Firmness slightly decreased with storage time. Total color difference was much higher in the control than in the film-packaged mushroom and rapidly increased at the early of storage. Correlation analysis showed a high correlation between total color difference and b values. These results were characterized by the reduced respiration rate resulting from elevated carbon dioxide and reduced oxygen levels in the package. At all storage temperatures, ethanol content in the tissue increased slightly at the early part of storage and rose considerably towards the end of the storage period. Ethanol content in the oyster mushrooms was higher in the stipe than in pileus tissues. The shelf life of the oyster mushrooms was about $8{\sim}11$ days at $0^{\circ}C$, about $4{\sim}6$ day at $5^{\circ}C$, about $2{\sim}3$ days at $10^{\circ}C$, and about $1{\sim}2$ days at $20^{\circ}C$.
This study was conducted to determine effect of dietary reduced antibiotics supplementation on carcass characteristics and meat quality of finishing pigs fed stevia and charcoal. A total of 180 pigs (LYD) were randomly allocated into 3 treatments with 3 replications. Dietary treatments were 1) T1 (control, basal diet, no stevia and charcoal addition, antibiotics both in early and late fattening periods), 2) T2 (basal diet, 0.3% stevia + 0.3% charcoal, antibiotics both in early and late fattening periods), 3) T3 (basal diet, 0.3% stevia + 0.3% charcoal, antibiotics in early fattening period only). At each marketing day, pigs were conventionally slaughtered, examined the carcass characteristics and loin (Longissimus) muscles were removed for the meat quality traits. In the carcass characteristics, T3 group showed higher incidence of A carcass grade compared to the other treatments. Backfat thickness was higher in T2 group compared to the others (p<0.05). In the meat quality traits, pH was higher in T1 group than T3 group (p<0.05). Cooking loss was higher in T2 group than T1 group (p<0.05). However, WHC (water holding capacity), drip loss and shear force values did not show any significant differences among treatments. In the panel test, there were no significant differences in tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and total acceptability scores among treatments. As a result, dietary supplementation of reduced antibiotics to finishing pigs fed stevia and charcoal showed similar growth performance and meat quality traits compared to conventional method.
This study was conducted to investigate the meat quality characteristics of pork loin in 3 crossbred groups (30 pigs/group). The crossbreeds were LY female${\times}$D male, Y female${\times}$B male and L female${\times}$B male (L: Landrace, Y: Yorkshire, B: Berkshire, D: Duroc). Pork loins were collected from animals ($110{\times}120kg$ body weight) slaughtered in a commercial slaughter house and stored at $-3^{\circ}C$. Samples were analyzed for general composition, physico-chemical properties, meat and fat color, texture characteristics, sensory evaluation and fatty acid composition at 24 hrs postmortem, and TBARS (Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances) values were determined at various storage times. The LYD pigs showed a higher back fat thickness than the YB and LB pigs. There were no significant differences in intramuscular fat, intermuscular fat, subcutaneous fat and springiness among the 3 crossbreeds. In addition, there were no significant differences in general composition, pH, drip loss, cooking loss and cooked sensory evaluation among the 3 crossbreeds (p>0.05). The shear force value of LB pork was significantly lower than other crossbreeds (p<0.05). Total heme pigment was significantly higher in YB pork compared to LYD and LB pork (p<0.05). The TBARS value of YB pork was significantly lower than that of LYD pork, except after the I day of storage (p>0.05). TBARS values increased significantly during storage for all three crossbreeds. The lightness (CIE L) of YB pork was significantly lower, while the redness (CIE a) was significantly higher in YB pork relative to the other crossbreeds. With regard to textural properties, the hardness and adhesiveness values were significantly lower in YB pork compared to LB pork. In fresh meat, the color of YB pork was significantly higher than the other breeds (p<0.05). The content of myristic acid (C14:0) was significantly lower, while the content of arachidonic acid (C20:4) was significantly higher in LB pork (p<0.05). These results show that the YB breed has the highest quality meat of the three crossbreeds.
The purpose of this study is to investigate initial nutritional status of stomach cancer patients. The study subjects were 88 patients with stomach cancer admitted at Kosin University Gospel Hospital in Busan. We assessed the initial nutritional status by anthropometric, biochemical and dietary intake data along with subjective global assessment(SGA). The results are as follows. 1. The mean age, weight, height, triceps skinfold thickness, mid arm circumference, and mid arm muscle circumference of the subjects were 55.9$\pm$11.0years, 60.0$\pm$9.8kg, 162.4$\pm$8.5cm, 10.9$\pm$5.7mm, 26.8$\pm$3.8cm, and 23.4$\pm$3.5cm respectively. The mean body mass index was within the normal range, with 22.7$\pm$2.8kg/m2, while 15.4% of the patients was underweight. The result shows that body fat mass and body protein mass of the patients with stomach cancer were decreased. 2. The mean biochemical data of the subjects were 4.0$\pm$0.5g/dl for albumin, 174.7$\pm$41.9mg/dl for cholesterol, 107.6$\pm$57.2mg/dl for triglyceride, 92.1μg/dl for Zn, 297.0$\pm$103.1mg/dl for transferrin, 1980.0$\pm$0.8$mm^3$ for total lymphocyte count. 3. Daily energy intake was 1997.8$\pm$579.3kcal. And the ratio of carbohydrate, protein, and lipid to energy intake was 72:14:14. 4. The patients were divided into three groups according to SGA performed by an observer. Group A(well nourished) was 55.7% with 49 patients, Group B(moderately malnourished) was 22.7 % with 20 patients, and Group C(severely malnourished) was 21.6 % with 19 patients. The three groups showed a significant difference in body weight(p<0.01), 1 month weight loss %(p<0.001), 6 months weight loss %(p<0.001), body mass index(p<0.01), and mid arm circumference(p<0.05), albumin(p<0.01), energy intake(p<0.05) as well as carbohydrate intake(p<0.05). From these results, it may be concluded that SGA can be used as a nutrition screening tool, and comprehensive nutrition assessment is desirable for those malnourished.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of the addition of olive and soybean oil on the color, water holding capacity, cooking loss, increase rate of thickness, decrease rate of diameter, pH, VBN content and TBARS value of ground pork loin during cold storage for 15 days. Ground pork loin were prepared by three types such as ground pork loin containing 20% pork fat (GP-P), ground pork loin containing 20% olive oil (GP-O) and ground pork loin containing 20% soybean oil (GP-S). The $L^{\ast}$ (lightness) and $b^{\ast}$ (yellowness) value of GP-P, GP-O and GP-S were not significantly different during storage, and the $L^{\ast}$, $a^{\ast}$ and $b^{\ast}$ value of GP-P were higher than those of GP-O and GP-S (p<0.05). The water holding capacity tended to increase along with storage period, the water holding capacity of GP-P was higher than that of GP-O and GP-S. Also, the cooking loss of GP-P was lower than that of GP-O and GP-S (p<0.05). The increase rate of thickeness by cooking increased along with storage period, but the decrease rate of diameter was tend to decreased with increase in storage period (p<0.05). The pH of all ground pork loins decreased until storage at 5 days, but increased at 15 days (p<0.05). The VBN content of all ground pork loins increased along with storage period, and the VBN content of GP-P was higher than that of GP-O and GP-S (p<0.05). The TBARS value of all ground pork loins increased along with storage period; also, the VBN content of GP-P was the highest among all ground pork loins and GP-O was the lowest among all ground pork loins (p<0.05).

Two configurations of Film Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonators with acoustic quater-wave bragg reflector layers are theoretically analyzed using equivalent circuits and the difference of their characteristics are discussed. We compare the characteristics of λ/2 mode to those of ideal FBAR with top and bottom electrode contacting air and the characteristics of λ/4 mode to those of ideal FBAR with top electrode contacting air and bottom electrode clamped. We assume that the piezoelectric film is ZnO, the electrode is A1 and the substrate is Si, ABCD parameters are extracted and input impedance is calculated by converting the equivalent circuit from Mason equivalent circuits to the simplified equivalent circuits that ABCD parameters are extracted possible, From the variation of resonance frequency due to the change of thickness of reflector layers and the variation of electrical Q due to the change of mechanical Q of reflector layers, it is confirmed that the reflector layer just under the bottom electrode have the greatest effect on the varation of resonance frequency and electrical Q. It is shown that the number of reflector layers required for the saturation of electrical Q decreases with the increase of the impedance ratio of reflector layers and electrical Q of λ/2 mode is larger than that of λ/4 mode, Electromechanical coupling factor is independent of the number of layers, The impedance ratio of reflector layers becomes larger as the electromechanical coupling factor becomes larger, The electromechanical coupling factor of the two mode are smaller than those of ideal FBARs because of the trapping of acoustic energy in the reflector layers, The insertion loss of the ladder filter decreases with the increase of the number of reflector layers but the bandwidth is not affected much by the number of reflector layers, As the impedance ratio of reflector layers becomes larger the insertion loss becomes smaller and the bandwidth becomes wider, In our analysis of the two mode, characteristics of λ/2 mode appear to be slightly more favorable than that of λ/4 mode
Silk was treated with calcium hydroxide for degumming at different treatment times, temperatures and Ca(OH)$_2$ concentration to optimize degumming conditions in this thesis. After degumming, soluble and insoluble sericin were seperated and then the soluble sericin was characterized by measuring the average degree of polymerization (D.P.), lysinoalanine (LAL) content, DSC, and by amino acid analysis. And degummed silk fibroin was characterized by measuring tenacity and SEM. Degumming loss was increased by increasing the treatment time and temperature until about 30 minutes. After then, a slight difference was found along with treatment times at the Ca(OH)$_2$ concentrations of 0.07% and 0.1% solutions. After degumming, insoluble sericin ratio on degumming solution was increased by increasing treatment temperature at Ca(OH)$_2$ 0.04% solution. At the concentration Ca(OH)$_2$ of 0.07%, a soluble ratio was almost 100% regardless of treatment time and temperature. At the beginning of treatment, insoluble ratio was high at Ca(OH)$_2$ 0.1% solution but it was decreased by increasing treatment time. At the Ca(OH)$_2$ concentration of 0.04%, D.P. of soluble sericin was maintained as a constant value of 10 at 100$^{\circ}C$ although treatment time was increased. However, at 80$^{\circ}C$ and 90$^{\circ}C$, it was hard to prepare a soluble sericin having a constant D.P. by increasing treatment time. At the Ca(OH)$_2$ concentration of 0.07%, D.P. was almost 10 irrespective of treatment temperature and time. Soluble sericins with high D.P. of 20∼30 were obtained at 0.1% and 100$^{\circ}C$. LAL was not detected in soluble sericin. As the results of amino acid analysis, it showed that Ca(OH)$_2$ degumming reduced the contents of hydroxy amino acids like Ser., Thr. and Tyr. In DSC analysis of soluble sericin, endothermic peak by thermal deformation and pyrolysis showed at 189$^{\circ}C$ and at 299$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The tenacities of degummed silk were 15∼30% lower than that of raw silk. And it was decreased with increasing treatment time. From the morphological study, the thickness of degummed silk fibroin became thinner by increasing degumming loss. The roughness of a silk fibroin surface was appeared as treatment concentration was increased.
This study was to figure out proper Formaldehyde/Urea molar ratio of UF resin with satisfactory bonding strength of plywood and properties of particleboard. The six kinds of UF resins were manufactured with F/U molar ratio 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0. The boards were made of three kinds of raw materials : Veneer, Sliver-Particle and Strand-Particle. Manufacturing condition of plywood : amount of mixing resin was 150g/$m^2$. The fourty secs/mm simple-pressing schedule in the pressure 10kgf/$m^2$ was applied for 480mm${\times}$700mm board at the temperature of $110^{\circ}C$ in a hot press. Manufacturing condition of particleboard : Target density was 0.65g/$cm^2$. The stepwise 9 minutes- multi-pressing schedule in the maximum pressure 40kgf/$cm^2$, the minimum pressure 15kgf/$cm^2$ was applied for $480mm{\times}634mm{\times}12mm$ board at the temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ in a hot press. The results are as follows : I. In bonding strength, plywood which was made by F/U molar ratio 1.2 showed the highest value. Other molar ratio resin also gave the satisfied value of KS standard, 7.5kgf/$cm^2$. 2. In internal bond strength of particleboard, Sliver-Particleboard(SLPB) and Strand-Particleboard(STPB) varied respectively from 5.9kgf/$cm^2$ to 4.8kgf/$cm^2$, from 6.7kgf/$cm^2$ to 5.4kgf/$cm^2$. SLPB with F/U=1.2 and STPB with F/U=1.6 had higher IB value. Also, both SLPB and STPB showed lower IB value in F/U molar ratio 2.0 and 1.0. 3. SLPB and STPB with six kinds of UF resin respectively satisfied bending strength of KS standard 150 Type(130kgf/$cm^2$) and 200 Type(180kgf/$cm^2$). Bending strength data for both of SLPB and STPB showed little or no loss from F/U=1.8 to F/U=1.2. Also, STPB was approximately two times higher than that of SLPB. Therefore, the raw material's shape had more effect on bending strength than the FlU molar ratio. 4. F/U=1.6 and 1.4 showed the lower thickness swelling in SLPB and STPB. All of STPBs satisfied thickness swelling of KS standard, under 12%.
This research was conducted to examine the feasibility of developing fire retardant particleboard and complyboard. Particleboard were manufactured using meranti particle(Shorea spp.)made with Pallmann chipper, and complyboard meranti particle and apitong veneer (Dipterocarpus spp.). Particles were passed through 4mm (6 mesh) and retained on 1mm (25 mesh). Urea formaldehyde resin was added 10 percent on ovendry weight of particle. Face veneer for complyboard was 0.9, 1.6 and 2.3mm in thickness and spread with 36 g/(30.48 cm)$^2$ glue on one side. Veneers were soaked with 10 percent solution of five fire retardant chemicals (diammonium phosphate, ammonium sulfate, monoammonium phosphate, Pyresote and Minalith), and particles with 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent solution of five chemicals. Particleboard and complyboard were evaluated on physical and mechanical properties, and fire retardancy. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Among five fire retardant chemicals treated to particleboard and complyboard, the retention of ammonium sulfate in 5 percent solution showed the lowest as 1.39 kg/(30.48 cm)$^3$ exceeding the minimum retention of 1.125 kg/(30.48 cm)$^3$ recommended by Forest Products Laboratory and Koch. 2. Particleboard and complyboard treated with diammonium phosphate showed higher modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), internal bond strength and screw holding power than those with the other chemicals. 3. MOR and MOE of complyboard treated with fire retardant chemicals were greater than those of fire retardant particleboard. 4. Thickness swelling of fire retardant complyboard was lower than that of fire retardant particleboard. 5. The moisture content of the boards treated with Pyresote and Minalith increased and with monoammonium phosphate reduced. 6. Fire retardant particleboard showed no ignition, and fire retardant complyboard started ignition, but time required to ignite was prolonged comparing the controlboard. Complyboard with only shell veneer treated showed ignition and lingering flame, but lingering flame time was shorter than controlboard. Complyboard with treated both core and veneer showed ignition but not lingering flame. 7. Flame length, carbonized area and weight loss were smaller than controlboard but had no significant difference among chemicals treated. 8. Temperature of unexposed surface of fire retardant particleboard was lowered with the increasing concentration of five chemicals. 9. Temperature of unexposed surface of fire retardant particleboard was lowered with the highest in Pyresote and the lowest in Minalith. 10. Temperature of unexposed surface of fire retardant complyboard was lower than that of controlboard.
Feeding trial was conducted with 80 Hanwoo steers (7.5 months of age, 204.4 kg body weight) for 680 days from growing period to late fattening period to examine the feeding value of whole crop barley silage TMR (BS-TMR) and whole crop rye silage TMR (RS-TMR) on body gain, feed cost, slaughter characteristics and quality characteristics of $longissimus$$dorsi$ muscle. Dietary treatments were conventional separate feeding of concentrate and rice straw (control), feeding BS TMR up to middle fattening period and same diet as for control during late fattening period (BS-TMR I), feeding BS-TMR for whole experimental period (BS-TMR II), feeding RS TMR up to middle fattening period and same diet as for control during late fattening period (RS-TMR I) and RS TMR for whole experimental period (RS-TMR II). Sixteen castrated calves were assigned to each treatment (4 pens, 4 heads per pen). Pens in each treatment were randomly distributed. Feeding both BS silage TMR and RS silage TMR slightly increased body gain of Hanwoo steers at the stages of growing and early fattening, and increased (P<0.0001) at middle fattening compared to feeding control diet while control diet tended to increase body gain at late fattening stage compared to feeding BS-TMR I, BS-TMR II and RS-TMR I diets. Total body gain was slightly increased in Hanwoo steers fed both I and II for BS and RS TMR compared to that in control diet. Feed cost per kg gain per head was relatively low in the Hanwoo steers fed silage TMRs to that fed control diet. Carcass weight, back fat thickness and $longissimus$$dorsi$ area of Hanwoo steers tended to increase but lowered (P<0.047) yield index by feeding silage TMRs. Feeding BS TMR slightly decreased marbling score but no difference was found in the number of head over grade 1 between diets. Control diet tended to improve yield grade compared to silage TMRs. Chemical composition, water holding capacity, drip loss, cooking loss and pH, color and fatty acid composition of $longissimus$$dorsi$ were not affected by experimental diets and feeding duration of silage TMRs. Shear force, however, was increased (P<0.046) by silage TMRs without difference between them compared to control diet. Based on the results of the current study, BS TMR and RS TMR could improve body gain and reduce feed cost without deteriorating meat quality compared to separate feeding of concentrate and rice straw. Overall feeding value was similar between BS TMR and RS TMR.
