  • Using materials with high thermal conductivity is a matter of great concern in the field of thermal management. In this study, we present our experimental results on an important physical property of carbon nanotube (CNT) films, two-dimensional thermal conductivity obtained by using an optical method based on Raman spectroscopy. We prepared four kinds of CNT films to investigate the effect of CNT type on heat spreading performance of films. This first comparative study using the optical method shows that the arc-discharge single-walled carbon nanotubes yield the best heat spreading film. And we observed thermal conductivity values of CNT films with various transmittances and found that the Raman method works as long as the sample is a transparent film. This study provides useful information on characterization of thermal conduction in transparent CNT films and could be an important step toward high-performance carbon-based heat spreading films.

  • Melting and icing process of the PCMTCU(Phase Change Material Thermal Control Unit) installed on the NEXTSat-2, which is scheduled to be launched in the second half, was investigated through the results of satellite-level TVT(Thermal Vacuum Test). As a result of the test, it was confirmed that the latent heat of PCM contributes to the temperature stabilization of the heating components. The thermal model for numerical analysis of the PCMTCU was correlated to acquire a reasonable degree of accuracy using the collected temperature measurements during TVT. The periodic temperature variation of the PCMTCU in normal on-orbit operation was predicted with the correlated thermal model, and the quantitative contribution of the PCM on the thermal energy management was evaluated with the liquid fraction. It will receive flight telemetry from the NEXTSat-2 after the launch, and complete the space verification of the PCMTCU.

  • This study analyzed by simulation using TRNSYS as well as by experiment on the solar district heating system installed for the first time for the district heating system in Bundang. Simulation analysis using TRNSYS focused on the thermal behavior and long-term thermal efficiency of solar system. Experiment carried out for the reliability of simulation system. This solar system where the circuits of two different collectors, flat plate and vacuum tube collector, are connected in series by a collector heat exchanger, and the collection characteristics of each circuit varies. Therefore, these differences must be considered for the system's control. This system uses variable flow rate control in order to obtain always setting temperature of hot water by solar system. Specifically, this is a system that heats returning district heating water (DHW) at approximately $60^{\circ}C$ using a solar collector without a storage tank, up to the setting temperature of approximately $85{\sim}95^{\circ}C$ To realize this, a flat plate collector and a vacuum tube collector are used as separate collector loops. The first heating is performed by a flat plate collector loop and the second by a vacuum tube collector loop. In a gross collector area basis, the mean system efficiency, for 4 years, of a flat plate collector is 33.4% and a vacuum tube collector is 41.2%. The yearly total collection energy is 2,342GJ and really collection energy per unit area ($m^2$) is 1.92GJ and 2.37GJ respectively for the flat plate vacuum tube collector. This result is very important on the share of each collector area in this type of solar district heating system.

  • The vacuum vessel of the KSTAR tokamak has a so large poloidal cross- section that workers can enter into the inside the vessel. To produce a clean plasma with low impurity concentrations it is planned that the whole vessel including plasma facing components will be baked out at $350^{\circ}C$ and the base pressure of the vessel will be kept in the range of ultra high vacuum. Large thermal stresses are expected during bake-outs to a three-dimensionally complex structure of the vessel, consequent ununiformity of the temperature distribution and support systems to resist forces acting on the vessel. In this report variations of the thermal stress according to temperature gradients on the vessel and constraint conditions of supporting structures are studied and some possible counterplans are discussed.

  • Vacuum is any air or gas pressure less than a prevailing pressure in an environmental or, specifically, any pressure lower than the atmospheric pressure and is used by a wide variety of scientists and engineering - including clean environment, thermal insulation, very long mean free path, plasma, space simulation[1]. The space environment is characterized by such a severe condition as high vacuum, and very low and high temperature. Since a satellite will be exposed to such a space environment as soon as it goes into its orbit, space environmental test should be carried out to verify the performance of the satellite on the ground under the space environmental conditions. A general and widely used method to simulate the space environment is using a thermal vacuum chamber which consists of vacuum vessel and thermally controlled shroud. As indicated by name of vacuum chamber, the vacuum technology is applied to design and manufacture of the thermal vacuum chamber. This paper describe the vacuum technology which is applied to space business.

  • In this study, the performance experiment was conducted to compare the permeate flux of hollow fiber Vacuum Membrane Distillation module according to leak problem between module housing and membrane bundle. For the permeate flux performance experiment of the two Vacuum Membrane Distillation modules, the Lab-scale experimental equipment was built in the capacity of $1m^3/day$. The performance test of the two Vacuum Membrane Distillation modules were analyzed according to the feed water conditions. As a result, it was analyzed that the leak VMD module decreased about 14% of permeate flux than normal VMD module.

  • The present study has been conducted to improve temperature distribution in the motor housing of vacuum cleaner and reduce the development period by CFD analysis. CFD analysis is performed to investigate the thermal flow pattern in the motor housing and validated by experiments. The validation of CFD analysis is conducted by comparing the temperature distribution on motor housing cover. Through the present study the CFD analysis procedure in the motor housing of vacuum cleaner is established and various experimental materials are obtained. These analysis results can be used effectively as design factors of vacuum cleaner.
