In this work, a new type of DSCs based on nanoporous FTO structure is being developed for research aimed at low-cost high-efficiency solar cell application. The nanoporous FTO materials have been prepared through the sol-gel combustion method followed by thermal treatment at $450{\sim}850[^{\circ}C]$. The properties of the nanoporous FTO materials were investigated by IR spectra, BET and TEM analyses, and the photovoltaic performance of the prepared DSCs were examined. It can be seen from the result that the nanoporous FTO exhibited good transparent conductive properties, well suited for DSCs application.

$CuInS_2$ thin films were synthesized by sulpurization of Cu/In Stacked elemental layer deposited onto glass Substrates by vacuum furance annealing at temperature 200[$^{\circ}C$]. And structural and electrical properties were measured in order to certify optimum conditions for growth of the ternary compound semiconductor $CuInS_2$ thin films with non-stoichiometry composition. $CuInS_2$ thin film was well made at the heat treatment 200[$^{\circ}C$] of SLG/Cu/In/S stacked elemental layer which was prepared by thermal evaporator, and chemical composition of the thin film was analyzed nearly as the proportion of 1 : 1 : 2. Physical properties of the thin film were investigated at various fabrication conditions substrate temperature, annealing and temperature, annealing time by XRD, FE-SEM and hall measurement system. At the same time, carrier concentration, hall mobility and resistivity of the thin films was $9.10568{\times}10^{17}[cm^{-3}]$, 312.502[$cm^2/V{\cdot}s$] and $2.36{\times}10^{-2}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$, respectively.
This study was performed to evaluate the lifespan extending effects of the dried ginger (Zingiber officnale Roscoe, Zingiberaceae). Ethanol extract of the dried ginger was successively partitioned as methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and $H_2O$ soluble fractions, and lifespan-extending effects of the fractions were investigated using Caenorhabditis elegans model system. Ethyl acetate-soluble fraction showed the most potent longevity property. Furthermore, ethyl acetate-soluble fraction elevated thermal stress tolerance, and increased expression of stress resistance protein. Further studies were performed to investigate several aging-related factors such as reproduction, food intake, growth and movement of C. elegans. The results revealed that there were no significant changes in aging-related factors including reproduction, food intake and growth, however, ethyl acetate-soluble fraction treatment led to an up-regulation of locomotory ability of aged worms, suggesting ethyl acetate-soluble fraction affected healthspan as well as lifespan of nematode.
The stabilization of barley $\beta$-amylase(Biozyme ML, Amano) was attained by modification with periodate-oxidized soluble starch. The specific activities of modified enzyme at pH 9.7 and pH 8.0 were 42% and 92%, respectively, compared with that of native enzyme. The pH stability of modified enzyme was increased at pH 2~5 and 7~12 in the presence of $\alpha$-cyclodextrin( $\alpha$ -CD) compared wish that of native enzyme. Thermal stability of the modified enzyme was increased. After treatment at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min. the activity remained 8% for the enzyme modified at pH 8.0 in the presence of $\alpha$-CD, 4.5% for the native enzyme. The native enzyme and modified enzyme showed two peak in HPLC. The molecular weight of the modified enzyme was slightly increased in HPLC analysis.

Piezoelectric energy harvesting (PEH) device refers to a power device for acquiring mechanical energy from the environment surrounding us which would otherwise be wasted and for converting it into usable electrical energy. While much work has been done on developing ZnO nanogenerator (NG) with nanowire arrays, there are some issues of not only scaling up its output power but also optimizing structure for operating feasibly in various conditions. Efficiency of NG is highly dependent on fixed orientation. But in many cases, it is not easy to predict where the pressure and vibration may come from. Furthermore, the direction of the applied mechanical stress is usually non-stationary and can be random in various practical applications. Therefore an omnidirectional PEH is needed. In this work, we investigate an omnidirectional PEH device consisting ZnO nanowires. We deposited spiral patterned ZnO seed layer on Kapton film. We deposited thin Cr layer on the ZnO seed layer using DC-sputter to form a passivation layer to retard un-expected growth of ZnO nanowires. We grew ZnO nanowires along the spiral arms using hydrothermal method. ZnO nanowires have been selectively grown from the ZnO sidewall without Cr layer and have the average length of$5{\mu}m$ and the average diameter of 40nm. We reduced the defect in the as-grown ZnO nanowires by O2 plasma using asher and by thermal treatment using RTA. Consequently, each nanowire has different directions to each other. This isotropic design can lead to the omnidirectional power generation. The morphology of NG is characterized with FESEM. Maximum output power of the device is measured by using a picoammeter and a nanovoltmeter.
In this study, $TiO_2$ powders are synthesized from ammonium hexafluoride titanate (AHFT, $(NH_4)_2TiF_6$) as a precursor by heat treatment. First, we evaluate the physical properties of AHFT using X-ray diffraction (XRD), particle size analysis (PSA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Then, to prepare the $TiO_2$ powders, is heat-treated at $300-1300^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The ratio of anatase to rutile phase in $TiO_2$ is estimated by XRD. The anatase phase forms at $500^{\circ}C$ and phase transformation to the rutile phase occurs at $1200^{\circ}C$. Increase in the particle size is observed upon increasing the reaction temperature, and the phase ratio of the rutile phase is determined from a comparison with the calculated XRD data. Thus, we show that anatase and rutile $TiO_2$ powders could be synthesized using AHFT as a raw material, and the obtained data are utilized for developing a new process for producing high-quality $TiO_2$ powder.
Cell-separating enzymes were used to investigate enzymatic maceration of watermelon and muskmelon containing single cells. Watermelon and muskmelon were macerated with Macerozyme A and Sumyzyme MC for 30-120min. Changes in maceration properties such as yields, color, viscosity, total sugar, total pectin, total polyphenol, particle size distribution, minerals, and free amino acids of suspensions after enzymatic disintegration were investigated. Contents of biochemical components in the supernatant of suspensions increased with increasing treatment time. Suspensions containing single cells showed good thermal stability without affecting original qualities. Mineral content of single-cell suspension was higher than those of watermelon and muskmelon juices. Potassium contents of single-cell suspension and juice were 240.8 and 172.7 mg%, respectively. Results suggest single-cell suspensions of watermelon and muskmelon can he utilized as ingredients for new beverages.
We evaluated grapefruit seed extract for antibacterial activity at varying time intervals and concentration levels against heat tolerant and spore-forming Bacillus stearothermophilus, mesophilic Bacillus subtilis, and food poisoning Staphylococcus aureus. Grapefruit seed extract showed growth inhibitory activity against B. stearothemophilus and B. subtilis, and S. aureus at the level of 0.01 tp 0.03% in nutrient broth. However, when applied to soymilk in a market, grapefruit seed extract at the level above 0.2% effectively inhibited the growth of B. stearothermophilus, However, it failed to completely sterilize the test organisms. On the other hand, B. subtilis and S. aureus were completely sterilized at the level of 0.2% within 48 hrs and 72 h, respectively. The higher concentration of grapefruit seed extracts showed more effective antibacterial activities against the test organisms, but caused deteriorated organoleptic quality and emulsion stability. We could conclude, by applying grapefruit seed extract (0.015%) with thermal treatment (10 min at $121^{\circ}C$) that the microbial stability of commercial soymilk was enhanced greatly.
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus). AFB1 is reported to have high thermal stability and is not decomposed by heat treatment during food processing. Therefore, in this study, knowing that AFB1 is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP), our aim was to develop a method to detoxify A. flavus-contaminated maize, under normal temperature and pressure, using Escherichia coli expressing human CYP3A4. First, the metabolic activity of AFB1 by recombinant human CYP3A4 was evaluated. As a result, we confirmed that recombinant human CYP3A4 metabolizes 98% of AFB1. Next, we found that aflatoxin Q1, a metabolite of AFB1 was no longer mutagenic. Furthermore, we revealed that about 50% of the AFB1 metabolic activity can be maintained for 3 months when E. coli expressing human CYP3A4 is freeze-dried in the presence of trehalose. Finally, we found that 80% of AFB1 in A. flavus-contaminated maize was metabolized by E. coli expressing human CYP3A4 in the presence of surfactant triton X-405 at a final concentration of 10% (v/v). From these results, we conclude that AFB1 in A. flavus-contaminated maize can be detoxified under normal temperature and pressure by using E. coli expressing human CYP3A4.
In the process of the conservation treatment of the glass eyes of the stone standing Maitreya of Daejosa temple, Buyeo (Treasure No. 217), a blackish material, expected to be the adhesive for fixing the glass eyes, was collected and analyzed. Infrared spectroscopy and pyrolysis/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (pyrolysis/GC/MS) were employed to identify the organic material in the sample. The IR analysis revealed the presence of materials such as apatite or bone black. The pyrogram of the sample was similar to that of Asian lacquer, among traditional adhesives. In particular, the pyrolysis/GC/MS analysis with online methylation detected 1,2-dimethoxy-3-pentadecylbenzene, methyl 7-(2,3- dimethoxyphenyl) heptanoate, and methyl 8-(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)octanoate. These are known to be the pyrolysis products of catechol and its oxidation product, which indicated the presence of Asian lacquer in the sample. X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and thermal gravimetry analysis showed that the sample contained ca. 60% inorganic substances, including apatite. Radiocarbon dating of the sample suggested that the blackish material was applied between the late 13th and early 15th century, revealing some discrepancy with the art-historical manufacturing time of the Maitreya. From the above analysis, it was concluded that Asian lacquer and bone ash were used to attach the glass eyes by forming a thick blackish lacquer layer.
