In this paper, we designed a coaxial dual camera incorporating two optical systems-one for the visible rays and the other for far-infrared ones-with the aim of capturing images in both wavelength ranges. The far-infrared system, which uses an uncooled detector, has a sensor array of 640×480 pixels. The visible ray system has 1,945×1,097 pixels. The coaxial dual optical system was designed using a hot mirror beam splitter to minimize heat transfer caused by infrared rays in the visible ray optical system. The optimization process revealed that the final version of the dual camera system reached more than 90% of the fusion performance between two separate images from dual systems. Multiple rigorous testing processes confirmed that the coaxial dual camera we designed demonstrates meaningful design efficiency and improved image conformity degree compared to existing dual cameras.
In this study, effects of curing temperature and autofrettage pressure on a Type 3 cryogenic propellant tank, which is composed of composite hoop/helical layers and a metal liner, were investigated by thermo elastic analysis and composite/aluminum ring specimen tests. Temperature field of a Type 3 tank was obtained from solving the heat transfer problem and, in turn, was used as nodal temperature boundary conditions during the elastic analyses for curing temperature and autofrettage pressure effects. As a result, it was shown that the higher curing temperature was, the more residual compressive stress and tensile stress were induced in composites and metal liner, respectively. On the contrary, autofrettage pressure brought the reduction of these residual thermal stresses caused by cryogenic environments to the tank structure. This tradeoff for curing temperature and autofrettage pressure must be considered in the design and manufacturing stages for a Type 3 cryogenic tank.

Research on enhancing the mechanical strength, lightweight properties, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity of composite materials by incorporating nano-materials is actively underway. Thermoplastic resins can change their form under heat, making them highly processable and recyclable. In this study, Polyamide-Nylon 6 (PA6), a thermoplastic resin, was utilized, and as reinforcing agents, fused carbon nano-materials (FCN) formed by structurally combining Carbon Nanotube(CNT) and Graphene were employed. Nano-materials often face challenges related to cohesion and dispersion. To address this issue, Silane functional groups were introduced to enhance the dispersion of FCN in PA6. The manufacturing conditions for the composite materials involved determining the use of a dispersant and varying FCN content at 0.05 wt%, 0.1 wt%, and 0.2 wt%. Tensile strength measurements were conducted, and FE-SEM analysis was performed on fracture surfaces. As a result of the tensile strength test, it was confirmed that compared to pure PA6, the strength of the polymer composite with a content of 0.05 wt% was improved by about 60%, for 0.1 wt%, about 65%, and for 0.2 wt%, the strength was improved by 50%. Also, when compared according to the content of FCN, the best strength value was shown when 0.1 wt% was added. The elastic modulus also showed an improvement of about 15% in the case of surface treatment compared to the case without surface treatment, and an improvement of about 70% compared to pure PA6. Through FE-SEM, it was confirmed that the matrix material and silane-modified nanomaterial improved the dispersibility and bonding strength of the interface, helping to support the load evenly and enabling effective stress transfer.
The demand for research on materials with excellent cryogenic strength and ductility has been increasing, particularly for applications such as liquid hydrogen (20 K) storage tanks. To effectively utilize liquid hydrogen, a system capable of maintaining and operating at 20 K is essential. Therefore, preliminary research and verification of the cooling system are crucial. In this study, a heat transfer analysis was conducted on a cooling system to meet the cryogenic environment requirements for cryogenic hydrogen chamber, which are conducted at liquid helium temperatures (4 K). The cooling mechanism in a helium cooling system was examined using numerical analysis. The numerical cooling trends were compared with experimentally obtained cooling results. The good agreement between numerical and experimental results suggests that the numerical approach developed in this study is applicable over a wide range of cryogenic systems.
Thermoacoustic power generation by a spiral heater in the Rijke tube was analyzed numerically. In the analysis, variables were normalized by the angular frequency of the sound and the thermal diffusivity of the air. The effect of the heater wire diameter d, the spacing between wires P-d, and the air-current velocity $U_0$, upon the power generation was obtained and discussed. When the spacing is broad enough, the normalized velocity is $U_0{\approx}0.8$ and the diameter is $d{\approx}4$ for the maximum power generation. With decrease of the spacing, however, the power generation increases more than 5 times and becomes maximum around $d{\approx}2$, $P-d{\approx}3$. And the velocity $U_0{\approx}0.8$ for the maximum power generation is almost independent of the wire spacing.

SMART100 has a containment pressure and radioactivity suppression system (CPRSS) for passive containment cooling system (PCCS). This prevents overheating and over-pressurization of a containment through direct contact condensation in an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST) and wall condensation in a CPRSS heat exchanger (CHX) in an emergency cool-down tank (ECT). The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) constructed scaled-down test facilities, SISTA1 and SISTA2, for the thermal-hydraulic validation of the SMART100 CPRSS. Three separate effect tests were performed using SISTA1 to confirm the heat removal characteristics of SMART100 CPRSS. When the low mass flux steam with or without non-condensable gas is released into an IRWST, the conditions for mitigation of the chugging phenomenon were identified, and the physical variables were quantified by the 3D reconstruction method. The local behavior of the non-condensable gas was measured after condensation inside heat exchanger using a traverse system. Stratification of non-condensable gas occurred in large tank of the natural circulation loop. SISTA2 was used to simulate a small break loss-of-coolant accident (SBLCOA) transient. Since the test apparatus was a metal tank, compensations of initial heat transfer to the material and effect of heat loss during long-term operation were important for simulating cooling performance of SMART100 CPRSS. The pressure of SMART100 CPRSS was maintained below the design limit for 3 days even under sufficiently conservative conditions of an SBLOCA transient.

Fundamental materialistic characterization and adsorption/neutralization behavior of waste egg shell for heavy metal ion have been studied for its application to wastewater treatment. To investigate the structural change and thermal decomposition characteristics of egg shell. X-ray diffraction and FT-IR analysis were conducted for egg shell treated at $105^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$, respectively. For the result of FT-IR analysis, the sample treated at $700^{\circ}C$ showed a reduced C-O absorption band compared with that of egg shell treated at $105^{\circ}C$, which may be due to the $CO_2$ release. Unlike to the result of FT-IR analysis, the XRD patterns of egg shell were almost similar for the cases of $105^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$ treatment. however, characteristic diffraction pattern of CaO was observed for $850^{\circ}C$ treatment, at which $CaCO_3$ is known to be completely converted to CaO. TGA/DTA analysis showed a slow decline in weight loss up to $600^{\circ}C$ and, for $600{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ range, the weight loss became drastic by reason of $CO_2$ discharge, which was accompanied by an appearance of major endothermic peak. The ratio of practical breakthrough time to ideal one, total transfer unit, and mass transfer coefficient were observed to be increased as the adsorption was progressed in a multiple-column fixed-bed reactor using egg shell as an adsorbent, which signified the distribution effect of mass transfer for continuous adsorption reaction. The neutralization effect of egg shell for several types of acidic wastewater made of different mineral acids was not much different from each other except for the case of $H_2SO_4$, for which the neutralization reaction was thought to be retarded by the formation of gypsum.

In this study, researchers performed preliminary design and numerical analysis for a pilot-scale helium heating system intended to support full-scale construction for a sulfur-iodine (SI) cycle. The helium heat exchanger used a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combustor. Exhaust gas velocity at the heat exchanger outlet was approximately 40 m/s based on computational thermal and flow analysis. The maximum gas temperature was reached with six baffles in the design; lower gas temperatures were observed with four baffles. The amount of heat transfer was also higher with six baffles. Installation of additional baffles may reduce fuel costs because of the reduced LPG exhausted to the heat exchanger. However, additional baffles may also increase the pressure difference between the exchanger's inlet and outlet. Therefore, it is important to find the optimum number of baffles. Structural analysis, followed by thermal and flow analysis, indicated a 3.86 mm thermal expansion at the middle of the shell and tube type heat exchanger when both ends were supported. Structural analysis conditions included a helium flow rate of 3.729 mol/s and a helium outlet temperature of $910^{\circ}C$. An exhaust gas temperature of $1300^{\circ}C$ and an exhaust gas rate of 52 g/s were confirmed to achieve the helium outlet temperature of $910^{\circ}C$ with an exchanger inlet temperature of $135^{\circ}C$ in an LPG-fueled helium heating system.
Enzymatic properties of immobilized transglucosidase (TG) from Aspergillus niger was characterized and compared with soluble TG. Michaelis-Menten constant $(K_m)$ and maximum velocity $(V_{max})$ of immobilized TG were $122\;mM,\;3.9{\times}10^{-2}\;mM/min$ and in case of soluble TG, 21 mM, 0.4 mM/min. The optimum pH of immobilized TG was pH 5.0 like soluble TG but immobilized TG showed 16% and 45% higher activity than soluble TG at pH 5.0 and pH 6.0. Both of immobilized TG and soluble TG were stable from pH 2.0 to pH 9.0, and therefore their activities in these pH ranges were remained more than 90%. The temperature was optimal at $60{\sim}70^{\circ}C\;and\;70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ for soluble TG and immobilized TG, respectively. The thermal stability of immobilized TG was significantly improved than that of soluble TG, and immobilized TG retained $32{\sim}40%$ higher activity than soluble TG. D-values from thermal inactivation of immobilized TG were 7690 sec at $65^{\circ}C$, 83 sec at $75^{\circ}C$, 7.2 sec at $80^{\circ}C$. Z-values of soluble and immobilized TG were $6.4^{\circ}C\;and\;5.3^{\circ}C$, respectively. The little difference of activation energies of soluble TG and immobilized TG supposed that there was little difference in mass transfer limitation during the reaction of soluble TG and immobilized TG.
The multi-layer insulating curtains used in the experiment was produced in six combinations using non-woven fabric containing aerogel and compared and analyzed by measuring heat flux and heat perfusion rates due to weight, thickness and temperature changes. Using silica aerogel, which have recently been noted as new material insulation, this study tries to produce a new combination of multi-layer insulating curtains that can complement the shortcomings of the multi-layer insulating curtains currently in use and maintain and improve its warmth, and analyze the thermal properties. The heat flux means the amount of heat passing per unit time per unit area, and the higher the value, the more heat passing through the multi-layer insulating curtain, and it can be judged that the heat retention is low. The weight and thickness of multi-layer insulation curtains were found to be highly correlated with thermal insulation. In particular, insulation curtains combined with aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric had relatively higher thermal insulation than insulation curtains with the same number of insulation materials. However, the aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric is weak in light resistance and durability, and there is a problem that the production process and aerogel are scattering. In order to solve this problems, the combination of expanded aerogel non-woven fabric and hollow fiber non-woven fabric, which are relatively simple manufacturing processes and excellent warmth, are suitable for use in real farms.
