The formation of heat islands causes high energy demand for space cooling and peak cooling loads in conditioned buildings. High-temperature fluctuations on a building roof may cause mechanical stress and increase surface deterioration. Thermal energy storage (TES) systems using microencapsulated phase-change materials (MPCMs) have been recognized as one of the most advanced energy technologies for enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. In this study, we prepared MPCM/paint composites for mitigating the heat island effect and reducing peak temperature. In addition, we carried out thermal and physical analysis of prepared MPCM composite samples by means of SEM, FTIR spectroscopy, DSC, and TGA. Further, we evaluated the dynamic heat transfer performance of heat-storage tiles painted with 10 g of heat-storage paint. From the obtained results, we deduced that MPCM/hydrophilic paint composites are more applicable to various fields, including the building sector, than MPCM/hydrophobic paint composites. On the basis of SEM and FTIR spectroscopy results, we concluded that materials with hydrophilic properties are more compatible with MPCMs than those with hydrophobic properties. In addition, DSC analysis results revealed that MPCM/hydrophilic paint composites have better compatibility, higher latent heat capacity, and better thermal properties than other composites. TGA results showed that hydrophilic-paint-based composites have higher thermal durability than hydrophobic-paint-based composites. Finally, a lot of MPCM-loaded heat-storage tiles showed lower peak temperatures at all measurement positions.

In Infrared rays, which are 50% of sunlight, act as heat rays to heat buildings. Solar heat paint is widely used to protect buildings from sunlight. Solar heat coatings are used to block buildings form sunlight. Solar heat paints are classified as heat-reflective paints and heat-insulating paints according to the differential thermal mechanism. In this study, we study the thermal differential mechanism by analyzing the temperature change of the coated steel plate and the solar reflection spectrum on the surface. In this experiment, exposed steel plate, heat-reflective coated steel plate, heat-insulating coated steel plate, and general paint coated steel plate were used. As a result, when the infrared rays of 780nm ~ 1400nm were irradiated, the heat reflective paint had a temperature lower by 10 degrees than other paints. Analysis of the reflection spectrum of the paint shows that the heat paint is lower in heat than other paints because it has higher reflectance of light and absorbs much of the infrared rays.

Heat sinks are most widely used in thermal management systems; however, the heat dissipation efficiency is usually limited. Therefore, in order to increase heat dissipation efficiency of the heat sink, the heat-dissipating paint using 2D materials (hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and graphene) as thermally conductive additive was designed and evaluated in the present study. The heat dissipation performance of the paint was calculated from temperature difference between the paint-coated and -uncoated specimens mounted on the heat source. The highest heat dissipation performance was obtained when the ratio of h-BN to resin was 1/10 in the paint. In addition, further reduction in the temperature of the test specimen by 6.5 ℃ was achieved. The highest heat dissipation performance of the paint prepared using graphene was achieved at a 1/50 ratio of graphene to the resin, and a 6.5 ℃ reduction was attained. In addition, graphene exhibited enhanced corrosion resistance property of heat-dissipating paint by inhibiting the growth of the paint blisters.

This experiment was carried out to study on the effect of surface coating on thermal insulation of farm structures to improve thermal resistance and reflective effect of solar radiation. Nine different types of experimental specimen were compared in the temperature variations of inside and outside; A, B, C, D. E and F types are box container and G, H and I types are drum container. The size of these containers is $1,500{\times}2,000{\times}2,500$ mm and ${\varphi}$$280{\times}330$ mm, respectively. Specimen of 3-type box(A, B, C) is galvanized steel sheet of thickness 0.45 mm. D, E and F types are sandwich panel of the thickness 50 mm inserted with urethane, glass wool and polystyrene form, respectively. G, H and I types are paint pot using in general. The surface of A. D, E, F and I types didn't any treatment, B, C and G types were treated with thermal insulation coating on the outside surface(B, G) or the inside and outside surface(C). And H type was treated with water paint coating on the only outside surface. In general, the experimental results showed the following tendencies; In case of A, B and C types. it was found that the thermal insulation effect of types coated with thermal insulation coating was improved remarkably than that of no treatment. And the thermal insulation effect between steel sheet and sandwich panel type was nearly similar There was not a significant difference of thermal insulation effect between thermal insulation coating and water paint coating. In time of drum container filled with rough rice, The difference of heat transfer tendency and temperature variation among surface treatments was nearly similar that of box types of galvanized steel sheet. And there was time lag about 6 hours between the temperature of middle part of rice and that of inside or outside surface.

This paper reports on the synthesis of paraffin-based phase change materials (PCMs) designed for use in solar reflective paint (SRP) as a thermal energy storage (TES) medium. These PCMs are prepared using the sol-gel process and are encapsulated in silica. The focus of this research is to evaluate the suitability of these synthesized PCMs for efficient thermal energy storage within SRP applications. The obtained PCMs have nanometric dimensions, which make them well-suited for integration into paint formulations. The study also includes a thorough analysis of the chemical, thermal, and structural stabilities of these materials, confirming their applicability in solar reflective paint.

Other countries(USA, Europe) have performed the fire resistance design of buildings by the alternative performance design methods, which are based on fire engineering theories. However, in Korea, the process on the alternative fire resistance performance design has only suggested without any applications for real steel structures. Therefore, In the case of steel structures stagnant research on refractory measures face difficulties in introducing fire resistance design. In this study, first of all, Intumescent paint was analyze the thermal properties(thermal conductivity, specific heat and density). In Sequence, using the section factor by H-standard section propose of section concrete filled steel tube and hollow. finally presents a reasonable thickness Intumescent paint takes time to target performance of the proposed cross-section steel tube.
During automotive painting, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with the paint solvents are emitted to the atmosphere. Most VOC emissions come from spraying operations via the use of solvent-based paints, as the spraybooth air picks up gaseous solvent compounds and overspray paint materials. The VOCs consist of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, alcohols, and glycolethers. Most VOCs (some hydrophilic VOCs are captured and retained in the water.) are captured by an adsorption system and thermally oxidized. In this paper, the processes involved in automotive painting and in VOC control are reviewed. The topics include: painting operations (briefly), the nature of VOCs, VOC-control processes (adsorption, absorption, biological removal, and thermal oxidation) and energy recovery from VOCs using a fuel reformer and a fuel cell, and the beneficial use of paint sludge.

The thermal conductivity ${\lambda}_b$, thermal diffusivity ${\alpha}_b$ of the thin black paint layer sprayed on solid surface and absorptivity a for laser beam are measured by applying a non-contact measurement method of the thermophysical properties of solids. The values of a=0.67, ${\lambda}_b=1.45W/mK$ and ${\alpha}_b=1.24{\times}10^{-6}m^2/s$ are obtained for the sprayed lay~ thickness $z_b{\fallingdotseq}40\;{\mu}m$. Furthermore, for the $z_b{\fallingdotseq}24\;{\mu}m$ thick layers which arc formed by rubbing with a glass rod after spraying, the values of a=0.73, ${\lambda}_b=1.85W/mK$. and ${\alpha}_b=1.09{\times}10^{-6}m^2/s$ are obtained. It is also shown that the present thermal diffusivity ${\alpha}_b$ for $z_b{\fallingdotseq}40\;{\mu}m$ Is about 30~80% larger than those obtained by Araki et al. for the thicker layer $z_b{\fallingdotseq}150{\sim}248\;{\mu}m$. This method could be applied to the measurement of thermophysical properties of thin layer on solids.

Safety management of steel frame members is a very important part to maintain safety and function. However, precise inspection is not possible for steel frame members due to finishing materials and insulation materials, leading to poor inspection. For steel members, an insulating spray coating method is used for high thermal conductivity. The insulation spray method is not only uneconomical, but also has the disadvantage of spoiling the aesthetics. In addition, VOCs are released from paints used in spraying, so a solution is needed. In this study, heating paint was used to improve the disadvantages of the insulation spray coating method and the high thermal conductivity of steel frame members. In addition to this, in order to reduce VOCs generated from the paint, active clay was added to produce a functional exothermic paint, and then the experiment was conducted. As the amount of activated clay increased, the film thickness increased, and the VOCs emission and thermal conductivity decreased.

The drying is a process that involves coupled and simultaneous heat and mass transfer. When a wet solid is subjected to thermal drying, two processes occur simultaneously. Drying is classified according to heat transfer characteristics in terms of conduction, convection and radiation. In thermal drying, radiation is easier to control than conduction and convection drying and involves a relatively simple structure. In this study, we measured energy consumption, surface hardness of paint and surface gloss with variation of surface temperature of drying materials and drying time. Drying characteristics and energy consumption between heating panels and hot air heating have been presented. The present study shows that a dryer using heating panels is more effective than a hot air dryer from the viewpoint of energy conservation. The hot air dryer, however, was not optimized and more studies on various parameters related to drying will need to be investigated for definite comparison of drying characteristics of the dryers. The result, even if limited, would present the effective availability of paint drying.
