  • In this study, device suitability analysis is performed by comparing the performance of SiC MOSFET and GaN Transistor, which are WBG power semiconductor devices in the induction heating (IH) system. WBG devices have the advantages of low conduction resistance, switching losses, and fast switching due to their excellent physical properties, which can achieve high output power and efficiency in IH systems. In this study, SiC and GaN are applied to a general half-bridge series resonant converter topology to compare the conduction loss, switching loss, reverse conduction loss, and thermal performance of the device in consideration of device characteristics and circuit conditions. On this basis, device suitability in the IH system is analyzed. A half-bridge series resonant converter prototype using the SiC and GaN of a 650-V rating is constructed to verify device suitability through performance comparison and verified through an experimental comparison of power loss and thermal performance.

  • Thermoacoustic instability caused by air conditioning in a combustion chamber has emerged as a problem that must be solved to establish a stable combustion system. Thermoacoustic instability is largely divided into primary and secondary acoustic instability. In this study, an experimental study of the effects of heat losses was conducted to investigate the mechanism of secondary acoustic instability. To generate the secondary acoustic instability, a quarter-wavelength resonator with one open end and one closed end was used, and the inside of the resonator was filled with premixed gases. Subsequently, secondary acoustic instability with downward-propagating flames could be realized via thermal expansion on the burnt side. To control heat losses qualitatively, an additional co-axial tube was installed in the resonator with air or nitrogen supply. Therefore, additional diffusion flames can be formed at the top of the resonator depending on the injection of the oxidizer into the co-axial tube when rich premixed flames are used. Consequently, secondary acoustic instability could not be achieved by increasing heat losses to the ambient when the additional diffusion flame was not formed, and the opposite result was obtained with the additional diffusion flame.

  • In this work, the thermal stability factors, such as the thermal decomposition temperature, decomposition activation energy ($E_d$), and char yield, were measured to investigate the effect of silicone rubber (SR) content on the thermal stabilities of EPDM/SR blends. As a result, the thermal decomposition curve of EPDM/SR blends was similar to the neat EPDM rubber at 10 wt% SR and the thermal decomposition temperature increased above this content. The $E_d$ value of EPDM rubber initially decreased and then was constant above 20 wt% weight losses. The $E_d$ of EPDM/SR blends was higher than that of the neat EPDM rubber and then decreased with increasing the weight loss when the SR content was in the range of 10-20 wt%. Whereas the $E_d$ of the blends was lower than that of the EPDM rubber and then decreased with increasing the weight loss when 30 wt% SR was added. The char yield at $800^{\circ}C$ increased with increasing the SR content, because the decomposition of silane groups in the backbone was capable of forming a silane-rich residue after the initial stage of thermal degradation, which finally prevents further heat transfer and diffusion in the blends.

  • In order to improve the efficiency of hydraulic gear pumps or motors especially for high operating pressure, power losses due to viscous friction and leak flow through gear teeth end-gaps are considered in this paper. Optimal gaps minimizing the power loss for pumps and motors with uniform heights of gaps are analysed first. And the effect of the shapes of gaps with unequal heights on the power loss are studied and discussed by simulation. Considering that the outer shell lacing gear teeth may expand due to high internal pressure or thermal stress, the results drawn in this paper can be used for the design of high efficiency pumps and motors.

  • In the present work, the numerical model was refined to predict the thermal analysis of energy storage in a fixed beds during (charging ,storing, discharging) mode. The governing energy equations of both fluid and the solid particles along with their initial and boundary conditions are derived using a two-phase, one dimensional model. The refined model is carried out by taking into account change of (air density , air specific heat) with air temperature and also by taking into considerations heat losses from bed to surrounding. Finite difference method was used to obtain solution of two governing energy equations of both fluid and solid particles through a computer program especially constructed for this purpose. The temperature field for the air and the solid are obtained, also efficiency of energy stored inside the bed is computed. Finally using refined model the effect of air flow rate per unit area Ga (0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 kg/$m^2$-s), and inlet air temperature (200, 250, 300 $^{\circ}C$) on energy storage characteristics was studied in three mode ( charging ,storing, discharging). The rock particles of diameter 1 em is used as bed material in this research.

  • Clusters of galaxies are storage rooms of cosmic rays. They confine the hadronic component of cosmic rays over cosmological time scales due to diffusion, and the electron component due to energy losses. Hadronic cosmic rays can be accelerated during the process of structure formation, because of the supersonic motion of gas in the potential wells created by dark matter. At the shock waves that result from this motion, charged particles can be energized through the first order Fermi process. After discussing the most important evidences for non-thermal phenomena in large scale structures, we describe in some detail the main issues related to the acceleration of particles at these shock waves, emphasizing the possible role of the dynamical backreaction of the accelerated particles on the plasmas involved.

  • The cold rolled strip meets continuously rising demands on the less deviation of thickness at the width direction of their rolled products. Especially, the special interest has been to find the methods to reduce the edge drop which influences seriously on the yield losses and the quality of the rolled products. In this study, the influence of hot coils on the thickness profile of cold rolled strip was analyzed. For obtainint the tapered work roll shig\ft conditions, the thermal crown and the flattening between the work roll and the strip were calculated, and the main parameters which have mostly effects on the edge drop were simulated. Also the obtained conditions from the simulation were applied to Tandem Cold Rolling Mill to investigate the change of the edge drop and the crown ratio depending on the amount of work roll taper and the length of contact of taper. The results of the application led to better thickness profile than conventional one.

  • Plastic optical fibers(POFs) composed of poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), polystyrene (PS), or polycarbonate(PC) as a core materials, and of fluorinated polymer or PMMA as a cladding were fabricated and their properties were investigated in this study. The attenuation loss of PMAA core POF was about 1,700 dB/Km at 660 nm, the loss of PS core POF was 1,800 dB/Km at 560 nm, and the loss of PC core POF was 2,200 dB/Km at 780 nm. These attenuation losses of POFs prepared ill this study were higher than those of commerically available POFs. Compared to PMMA and PS core POFs, PC core POF has excellent characteristics, including high thermal stability, high flexibility, and high impact strength.

  • In this study, lots of methods have been studing to utilize energy and decrease contaminated effluents. There has been great progress on IGCC (Integrated gasification combined cycle) to reduce thermal energy losses. The following results have been conducted from desulfurization experiments using waste shell to remove $H_{2}S$. Unreacted core model ior desulfuriration rate prediction of sorbent was indicated. These were linear relationship between time and conversion. So co-current diffusion resistance was conducted reaction rate controlling step. The sulfidation rate is likely to be controlled primarily by countercurrent diffusion through the product layer of calcium sulfide(CaS) formed. Maximum desulfurization capacity was observed at 0.631 mm for lime, oyster and hard-shelled mussel. The kinetics of the sorption of $H_{2}S$ by CaO is sensitive to the reaction temperature and particle size at $800^{\circ}C$, and the reaction rate of oyster was faster than the calcined limestone at $700^{\circ}C$.
