  • The shape memory effect results from the martensite transfomation of each individual grain. Thus it is necessary to study the texture and its variation. In this study the change of texture during thermal cycling and it's effect on shape memory ability are investigated. The major component of the rolling texture in the parent phase is identified (001) [110], and minor components are (112) [110], (111) [112], {hkl}<100> fiber texture is developed at $45^{\circ}$ from rolling direction. In the case of martensite phase, it is estimated that the major component is (011) [100] and the minor components are (105) [501], (010) [101] and (100) [001]. According to thermal cycling. severity of texture, especially (001) [110] component in parent phase and (011) [100] component in martensite phase are increased. The shape memory ability is increased with increase of thermal cycles and also increased as the direction of specimen approach to $45^{\circ}$ from rolling direction. After first thermal cycling the temperature of transformation can be define clearly and Ms and As are raised by thermal cycling.

  • Effect of thermal cycling on shape memory effect and stabilization of austenite was investigated in Fe-21%Mn alloy. The thermal cyclic treatment was carried out with two types, room temperature${\leftrightarrow}215^{\circ}C$ and room temperature${\leftrightarrow}260^{\circ}C$. In case of the room temperature${\leftrightarrow}215^{\circ}C$, the SME was rapidly increased up to 3 cycles and maintained nearly constant value regardless of further cycles. In case of the room temperature${\leftrightarrow}260^{\circ}C$, however, the SME was increased with increasing the thermal cycle up to 5 cycles and decreased gradually with further cycle. The variation of the ${\varepsilon}$ martensite volume pet with the thermal cycle was in good agreement with the variation of the SME. Therefore, the change of the SME due to the cyclic treatment was explained with the change of the ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content. As the thermal cycle was increased, the $M_s$ temperature was decreased, and the $A_s$ and $A_f$ temperatures were increased, respectively.

  • Recently, a problem related to the thermal management in portable electronic and telecommunication devices is becoming issued. That is due to the trend of a slimness of the devices, so it is not easy to find the optimal thermal management solution for the devices. From now on, a pressed circular type cooling device has been mainly used, however the cooling device with thin thickness is becoming needed by the inner space constraint of the applications. In the present study, the silicon flat plate type cooling device with the separated vapor and liquid flow path was designed and fabricated. The normal isothermal characteristics created by vapor-liquid phase change was confirmed through the experimental study. The cooling device with 70 mm of total length showed 6.8 W of the heat transfer rate within the range of $4{\sim}5^{\circ}C/W$ of thermal resistance. In the future, it will be possible to develop the commercialized cooling device by revising the fabrication process and enhancing the thermal performance of the silicon and glass cooling device.

  • Changes of crosslink densities of resole-cured NR composites by thermal aging were studied. The thermal aging was performed at $50-90^{\circ}C$. The crosslink density change increased with increase of the aging temperature and then decreased. Level of the crosslink density change decreased with increase of the resole content. Increase of the crosslink density by the thermal aging was explained with the formations of new crosslinks by combination reactions of pendent groups terminated by resoles and crosslinking reactions by pendent groups having methylol or o-methylene quinone intermediate. And decrease of the crosslink density by the thermal aging was explained with the dissociations of the existing crosslinks having dimethylene ether linkages.

  • The current research deals with, stability/instability and cylindrical composite nano-scaled shell's resonance frequency filled by graphene nanoplatelets (GPLs) under various thermal conditions (linear and nonlinear thermal loadings). The piece-wise GPL-reinforced composites' material properties change through the orientation of cylindrical nano-sized shell's thickness as the temperature changes. Moreover, in order to model all layers' efficient material properties, nanomechanical model of Halpin-Tsai has been applied. A functionally modified couple stress model (FMCS) has been employed to simulate GPLRC nano-sized shell's size dependency. It is firstly investigated that reaching the relative frequency's percentage to 30% would lead to thermal buckling. The current study's originality is in considering the multifarious influences of GPLRC and thermal loading along with FMCS on GPLRC nano-scaled shell's resonance frequencies, relative frequency, dynamic deflection, and thermal buckling. Furthermore, Hamilton's principle is applied to achieve boundary conditions (BCs) and governing motion equations, while the mentioned equations are solved using an analytical approach. The outcomes reveal that a range of distributions in temperature and other mechanical and configurational characteristics have an essential contribution in GPLRC cylindrical nano-scaled shell's relative frequency change, resonance frequency, stability/instability, and dynamic deflection. The current study's outcomes are practical assumptions for materials science designing, nano-mechanical, and micromechanical systems such as micro-sized sensors and actuators.

  • In this study, to improve the indoor thermal environment of the radiant floor heating system, a study was conducted on the temperature change characteristics and energy consumption according to the change of the indoor air set temperature, the supply hot water temperature and the outdoor temperature. As for the control method, the on/off control and the thermal difference proportional control method proposed through previous studies were applied. In addition, in consideration of field applicability, numerical analysis was performed for the case where the indoor air temperature sensor was affected by the wall temperature. As a result, it was found that the temperature difference proportional control method is more effective for thermal comfort and energy saving than on/off control.

  • This thesis is based on a research to investigate the electrical fire risk due to the single and composite cause in a terminal block. This paper analyzed the thermal characteristics depending on the screw torque change and contact resistance change to measure the fire risk due to the poor contact from single cause first. To measure the fire risk due to the composite cause, the acceleration tracking depending on the contact resistance change was experimented to check the correlation of poor contact and tracking to fire. The experiment result showed that the thermal characteristics were clearer as the screw torque in poor contact status and magnitude of contact resistance increased and that the thermal characteristics of terminal block depending on the contact resistance change was more reliable than the thermal characteristics depending on the screw torque change. Moreover, the terminal block poor contact and tracking were correlated in the case of the composite cause, and when two composite causes were interacted, the electrical fire risk was higher than the single cause.

  • The rapid urbanization caused drastic temperature changes in Korea. Excessive urbanization and development result in unpredictable and abnormal climate change all over the world. These changes are reflected in Korean government policy and research about cities, such that various research endeavors have been undergone recently. There are lots of ways to improve the urban environment; the easiest way to solve the urban heat effect problem is to make green spaces within the city. Even though we can't enlarge green spaces over the city limitlessly, it is desperately need for a methodology to efficiently create green space in limited area. Based on awareness of issues as mentioned earlier, we would like to propose landscaping method that can increase thermal comfort in the same area. For this study, simulating the change of temperature, mean radiant temperature, PMV were done due to number of species planted in apartment complex. To increase the reliability of the simulation, first above all, field measurement for temperature change was performed in apartment complex, where residential building are arranged in the form of ㄷ. And based on this data, Envi-met simulation was performed varying 1-7 kinds of species divided by grass, shrubs, arbor (deciduous, conifers) planted in apartment complex. As a result, there was a change less than $1^{\circ}C$ with the increasing number of species in daytime, but the average radiation temperature about $6-7^{\circ}C$ was reduced. In addition, PMV index was improved by more than 0.5 point. Thermal comfort indicator improved significantly depending on the number of species during the day, on the other hand, there were no significant changes at night. As a consequence, this study has shown that not single-species planting but mixed planting varied the number of species would improve the thermal comfort in the same area of landscaping space at daytime.

  • Thermal storage plays an important role in building energy saving, which is greatly assisted by the incorporation of latent heat storage in building materials. A phase change material is a substance with a high heat of fusion which, melting and solidifying at a certain temperature, can be storing and releasing large amount of energy. Heat is stored or released when the material changes from solid to liquid. Integration of building materials incorporating PCMs into the building envelope can result in increased efficiency of the built environment. The aim of this research is to identify thermal performance of PCMs impregnated building materials which is applied to interior of building such as gypsum and red clay. In order to analyze thermal performance of phase change materials, test-cell experiments and simulation analysis were carried out. The results show that micro-encapsulated PCM has an effect to maintain a constant indoor temperature using latent heat through the test-cell experiments. PCM wallboard makes it possible to reduce the fluctuation of room temperature and heating and cooling load by using EnergyPlus simulation program. Phase change material can store solar energy directly in buildings. Increasing the heat capacity of a building is capable of improving human comfort by decreasing the frequency of indoor air temperature swings so that the interior air temperature is closer to the desired temperature for a long period of time.
