An accurate prediction of budburst in grapevines is indispensable for vineyard frost warning system operations in spring because cold tolerance depends heavily on phonology. However, existing frost warning systems utilize only daily minimum temperature forecasts since there is no way to estimate the site-specific phonology of grapevines. A budburst estimation model based on thermal time was used to project budburst dates of two grapevine cultivars (Kyoho and Campbell Early), and advisories were issued depending on phonology as well as temperature. A 'warning' is issued if two conditions are met: the forecasted daily minimum temperature falls below $-1.5^{\circ}C$ and the estimated phonology is within the budburst period. A 'watch' is issued for a temperature range of -1.5 to $+1.5^{\circ}C$ with the same phonology condition. Validation experiments were done at 8 vineyards in Anseong in spring 2005, and the results showed a good agreement with the observations. This method was applied to the climatological normal year (1971-2000) to determine sites with high frost risk at a 30 m grid cell resolution. Among 608,585 grid cells constituting Anseong, 1,059 cells were identified as high risk for growing Kyoho and 2,788 cells for Campbell Early.

A thermal time-based two-step phenological model was used to project flowering dates of Japanese cherry in South Korea from 1941 to 2100. The model consists of two sequential periods: the rest period described by chilling requirement and the forcing period described by heating requirement. Daily maximum and minimum temperature are used to calculate daily chill units until a pre-determined chilling requirement for rest release is met. After the projected rest release date, daily heat units (growing degree days) are accumulated until a pre-determined heating requirement for flowering is achieved. Model calculations using daily temperature data at 18 synoptic stations during 1955-2004 were compared with the observed blooming dates and resulted in 3.9 days mean absolute error, 5.1 days root mean squared error, and a correlation coefficient of 0.86. Considering that the phonology observation has never been fully standardized in Korea, this result seems reasonable. Gridded data sets of daily maximum and minimum temperature with a 270 m grid spacing were prepared for the climatological years 1941-1970 and 1971-2000 from observations at 56 synoptic stations by using a spatial interpolation scheme for correcting urban heat island effect as well as elevation effect. A 25km-resolution temperature data set covering the Korean Peninsula, prepared by the Meteorological Research Institute of Korea Meteorological Administration under the condition of Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change-Special Report on Emission Scenarios A2, was converted to 270 m gridded data for the climatological years 2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2100. The model was run by the gridded daily maximum and minimum temperature data sets, each representing a climatological normal year for 1941-1970, 1971-2000, 2011-2040, 2041-2070, and 2071-2100. According to the model calculation, the spatially averaged flowering date for the 1971-2000 normal is shorter than that for 1941-1970 by 5.2 days. Compared with the current normal (1971-2000), flowering of Japanese cherry is expected to be earlier by 9, 21, and 29 days in the future normal years 2011-2040, 2041-2070, and 2071-2100, respectively. Southern coastal areas might experience springs with incomplete or even no Japanese cherry flowering caused by insufficient chilling for breaking bud dormancy.
Portland cement production is under critical review due to high amount of $CO_2$ gas released to the atmosphere. Attempts to increase the utilization of fly ash, a by-products from thermal power plant to partially replace the cement in concrete are gathering momentum. But most of fly ash is currently dumped in landfills, thus creating a threat to the environment. Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. Instead, the source of material such as fly ash, that are rich in Silicon(Si) and Aluminium(Al), are activated by alkaline liquids to produce the binder. Hence concrete with no cement is effective in the reduction of $CO_2$ gas. In this study, we investigated the influence of the compressive strength of mortar on alkaline activator and curing condition in order to develop cementless fly ash based alkali-activated concrete. In view of the results, we found out that it was possible for us to make alkali-activated mortar with 70MPa at the age of 28days by using alkaline activator manufactured as 1:1 the mass ratio of 9M NaOH and sodium silicate and applying the atmospheric curing after high temperature at $60^{\circ}C$ for 48hours.
Molybdenum silicide films have been prepared by sputtering from a single composite MoS$i_2$ source on both P, B$F_2$respectively implanted (5${\times}10^{15}ions/cm^2$ single crystal and P implanted (5${\times}10^{15}ions/cm^2$) polycrystalline silicon substrates followed by rapid thermal annealing in the ambient of argon. The heat treatment temperatures have been varied in the range of 600-l20$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 seconds. The properties of Mo-silicide and the diffusion behaviors of dopant after the heat treatment are investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) , secondary ions mass spectrometry(SIMS), four-point probe and $\alpha-step.$ Annealing at 80$0^{\circ}C$ or higher resulted in conversion of the amorphous phase into predominantly MoS$i_2$and a lower sheet resistance. There was no significant out-diffusion of dopants from both single crystal and polycrystalline silicon substrate into molybdenum silicide layers during annealing.
This study is to provide evidence-based recommendations for the most-effective treatments of benign prostatic hyperplasia based on patient preference or clinical need, and to meta-analyze the Korean literatures for the development of BPH treatment guidelines. For these analyses, extensive literature searches (208 articles), with priority given to the Korean Journal of Urology, were conducted from 1960 to August, 1996. Meta-analysis, like all statistical analysis, has two main functions: data summarization (qualitative meta-analysis) and smoothing o. pattern recognition (quantitative meta-analysis). As well, critical reviews and syntheses with the mean and 90-percent confidence intervals for the likelihood were used to evaluate empirical evidence and significant outcomes of the BPH treatment literatures (106 articles). For this task, the Methodologic Panel for BPH Guidelines was composed of multidisciplinary experts in the field. The results of the study were summarized as follows: For all that watchful waiting is an appropriate treatment strategy for the majority of patients with prostatism, we couldn't find the Korean literatures which carried this article. The literatures on alpha-1-adrenergic receptor blockers provide no evidence to suggest that any one alpha blocker is more effective than another. The finasteride reduces the size of the prostate, on average, and leads to a small yet perceptible reduction in sysptoms. Of all treatment options, prostate surgery with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP), and so on, offers the best chance for symptom improvement. However, surgery also has the highest rates of significant complications. Therefore, surgery need not always be a treatment of last resort. Balloon dilation of the prostatic urethra is clearly less effective than surgery in relieving symptoms, but it is associated with fewer complications. Emerging technologies for treating BPH include lasers, coils, stents, thermal therapy and hyperthermia. Established technologies will also be reanalyzed as results of new trials are reported. Although this study has some limitations due to lacking for good quality literatures, ' it provides a cornerstone for our medical research. It represents the most current scientific knowledge regarding the clinical epidemiology including treatment of BPH. It will be revised and updated as needed.

This study was conducted to eliminate viruses from citrus-infected plants using micrografting and thermotherapy. Six citrus cultivars including a 'Setoka' hybrid were used as plant sources. The TAS-ELISA technique demonstrated that several plants were CTV positive. However, no CTV symptoms were detected in plants obtained from shoots and treated at a high temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ during the day and night and micrografted for two weeks with old trifoliate orange rootstock in vitro. Indexing of CTV, SDV, and CTLV for RT-PCR analysis of the eleven citrus seedlings, including 'Setoka', 'Samdajosang', 'Pungkwang', 'Shiranuhi', and 'Ehimekashi dai28go' was virus free following the micrografting and thermal therapy.
Blending films having enhanced water-resistance and barrier properties were prepared using the mixtures of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution and poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) dispersed in water. Thermal-mechanical properties, contact angles, water-vapor transmission rates (WVTR) and oxygen transmission rates $(O_2TR)$ were measured with the content of EAA of blending films, and their water-resistance was evaluated. The tensile strength of the films was found to be $9.16{\sim}11.75\;kg/mm^2$ which showed no significant difference compared with that of PVA, and the hardness increased with the content of EAA. The glass transition temperature and melting temperature of the blending films were slightly improved. The film prepared with PVA/EAA (= 90/10), of which the swelling and solubility were measured to be 109 and 0%, respectively, showed improved water-resistance. The WVTR and $O_2TR$ for the PET film (thickness $50\;{\mu}m$) coated with PVA/EAA (= 90/10) film (thickness $2.5\;{\mu}m$) were measured to be $9.1\;g/m^2/day$ and $2.0\;cc/m^2/day$, respectively.
In an attempt to control the spalling in high strength concrete, spalling reducer was mixed to identify the effect and thermal characteristics of concrete beam member at high temperature. The member was manufactured in such as way of adding 40~60MPa of high strength concrete into spalling reducer, and then fire resistance performance were monitored under the ISO standard fire load condition in accordance with KS F 2257. As a result of test, fore rate performance of 40MPa beam without spalling reducer was 180minutes, 50MPa was 174minutes and 60MPa was 152minutes, indicating that 50MPa and 60MPa beam appeared 6~28minutes short to become a 3-hour rate. However, 50 and 60MPa beam mixed with spalling reducer appeared to have satisfied the requirements for 180minutes. A spalling was occurred in surface of 50 and 60MPa beam mixed without spalling reducer, while no spalling or surface failure was occurred with 50 and 60MPa beam mixed with spalling reducer. Thus polypropylene fiber mixed with the concrete proved to be effective, but viewing that the surface of 60MPa was peeled off partially, the steel fiber mixed appeared not to be effective for the beam more than 60MPa.
There are increasing use of composite resin in the posterior teeth and the new indirect inlay technique was introduced for compensating much troubles faced in direct technique. Many researchers insisted that overall properties of restorative materials were enhanced by an additional curing but this technique still has a problems about using cement material. Resin inlay obtains retention force from friction and another adhesion to tooth structure. A shape of cavity preparation was noted but studies about cement thickness and bond strength with cavity divergency are rare. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of cavity divergency on cement thickness and bond strength of resin inlay. Cavities, which divergency was $6^{\circ}$, $16^{\circ}$, and $26^{\circ}$ in each group, were prepared and their divergency was verified by Adobe Photoshop program through the image capture with stereo microscope and FlexCam. Inlays were fixed into the cavities with a resin cement, Superbond and were handled under chemical (in 75% ethanol for 24 hrs.) and thermal stress (500 cycles from $5^{\circ}$ to $55^{\circ}C$). MXT 70 (x400) was used for measuring the cement thickness and bond strength was evaluated with a universal testing machine. Following results were obtained : 1. The cement thickness in Mean (S.D.) were; 35.58 (10.31)${\mu}m$ in $6^{\circ}$ group, 35.97 (10.49)${\mu}m$ in $16^{\circ}$ group, and 41.43 (9.33)${\mu}m$ in $26^{\circ}$ group. But there was no significant difference between groups. 2. The bond strength in Mean (S.D.) were ; 33.18 (5.53)kg in $6^{\circ}$ group, 23.47 (13.40)kg in $16^{\circ}$ group, and 19.75 (10.48)kg in $26^{\circ}$ group. $6^{\circ}$ group showed significantly higher value compared to $16^{\circ}$ and $26^{\circ}$ groups (p<0.05). Although the results of this study indicate $6^{\circ}$ divergency will be good for resin inlay, cavity preparation with this type will have lots of difficulties in manufacturing, try-in, and cementation procedures, such as deformation. So it is concluded that $16^{\circ}$ divergent cavity preparation is recommended in resin inlay technique.

Ferritic stainless steels, which have relatively small thermal expansion coefficient and excellent corrosion resistance, are increasingly being used in vehicle manufacturing, in order to increase the lifetime of exhaust manifold parts. But, there are limits on use because of the problem related to cosmetic resistance, corrosions of condensation and high temperature salt etc. So, Aluminum-coated stainless steel instead of ferritic stainless steel are utilized in these parts due to the improved properties. In this investigation, Al-8wt% Si alloy coated 409L ferritic stainless steel was used as the base metal during Gas Tungsten Arc(GTA) welding. The effects of coated layer on the microstructure and hardness were investigated. Full penetration was obtained, when the welding current was higher than 90A and the welding speed was lower than 0.52m/min. Grain size was the largest in fusion zone and decreased from near HAZ to base metal. As welding speed increased, grain size of fusion zone decreased, and there was no big change in HAZ. Hardness had a peak value in the fusion zone and decreased from the bond line to the base metal. The highest hardness in the fusion zone resulted from the fine re-precipitation of the coarse TiN and Ti(C, N) existed in the base metal during melting and solidification process and the presence of fine $Al_2O_3$ and $SiO_2$ formed by the migration of the elements, Al and Si, from the melted coating layer into the fusion zone.
