  • Purpose: Cold hypersensitivity is regarded to be associated with blood circulation. This study is aims to evaluate the effects and safety of oxygen chamber therapy on cold hypersensitivity by comparing the temperature and Visual Analogue Scale. Methods: 42 outpatients who visited ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ University Oriental Hospital from July 11th, 2013 to August 28th, 2013 were analyzed. Patients were subjected to thermometer, and those with thermal difference greater than $0.3^{\circ}C$ between upper arm and palm and also with more than VAS 4 of cold hypersensitivity were diagnosed with cold hypersensitivity. 42 outpatients diagnosed with cold hypersensitivity are divided into two groups, one is the experimental group consisted of 21 patients and other was control group consisted of 21 patients. The experimental group had oxygen chamber therapy 10 times for 4 weeks. Thereafter the effects of oxygen chamber therapy on cold hypersensitivity was analyzed with t-text using SPSS for Windows version 21. Results: After the oxygen chamber therapy, experimental group had considerable improvement on cold hypersensitivity, in consequence of decreasing rate of thermal difference and VAS of cold hypersensitivity. Ear deafness and hand numbness were reported as an adverse effects in experimental group, but there was no serious adverse effects. Conclusions: This clinical trial showed oxygen chamber therapy could be effective and safe to reduce cold hypersensitivity.

For the most part, the program used reminiscence and re-authoring of the narrative therapy as counseling techniques. Thirty-two elderly people(16 in the experimental group, 16 in the control group) aged 60 years and over were randomly selected from patients at the Daegu Metropolitan City General Welfare Center. Two groups were identified as equivalents for the study in the pre-test. The program for the experimental group was implemented twice a week for 90 minutes per session over a 6-week period(Sep. 8-Oct.14. 2005). The pre-test(Sep. 8 2005), the post-test(Oct. 14. 2005) and the follow-up test(Nov. 14. 2005) were implemented in order to verify the effectiveness of the programs. The instruments used in the study were the Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form(Korean Version) and the Death Anxiety Scale. The data were analyzed using t-testing and One-Factor Repeated Measures ANOVA. This study supplemented other qualitative research methods in order to verify the variation in the depression and death anxiety in the elderly. The findings of the study were as follows: Significant decrease in the depression and death anxiety were reported in the experimental group. The control group however did not show any significant changes in the depression and death anxiety rates. The result of the post hoc multiple comparisons showed that the effects of the life review-narrative group therapy program has lasted effects on decreasing of the death anxiety. Nevertheless, the effects of the life review-narrative group therapy program on decreasing depression are not lasting. The study has limitations so further research is suggested.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a virtual upper extremity training program using the RAPAEL Smart Glove on upper extremity function in stroke survivors with chronic hemiparesis and to focus the training program development using the Smart Glove as a feasibility study. Methods: This study was conducted using a single group and pre-post test research design in the outpatient departments of local rehabilitation units. Ten chronic hemiparetic stroke survivors with a diagnosis of first stroke received therapeutic rehabilitation at the rehabilitation units. All the participants used a virtual reality program with the RAPAEL Smart Glove for 30 minutes per session 3 days a week over 8 weeks. They also received conventional occupational therapy with functional electrical stimulation for 40 minutes per session 3 days a week for 8 weeks as an additional therapy. To analyze the effects of this therapeutic intervention, four clinical measures, including the box-block test (BBT), the Wolf motor function test (WMFT), the trail-making score, the Jebsen Taylor hand function test (JTHFT), and grip strength, were used. Results: Upon completion of the intervention in week 8, all the participants demonstrated significant WMFT, JTT, BBT, grip strength, and trail-making score gains compared to the respective baselines at week 0. Conclusion: This study suggests that virtual upper extremity training using the RAPAEL Smart Glove has a reasonable and beneficial effects on upper extremity function in chronic hemiparetic stroke survivors.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical effect, assessment, method, and recent trend of the programs by systematically reviewed community-based programs for the elderly's quality of life conducted in the last ten years, and to present comprehensive basic data for occupational therapists who want to apply community-based programs improving quality of life. Methods : This study identified 811 studies from among those registered in the RISS, KISS, DBpia, NDSL, and KCI databases from January to September 2020, using "elderly," "community elderly," "65 aged," "quality of life," "occupational therapy," "occupational therapy program," "intervention," and "intervention program" as keywords. From these results, 11 documents were selected. Results : It was found that studies of occupational therapy programs for the quality of life of the elderly have been continuously conducted since 2010, and most of them were non-random control studies. The quality of life evaluation tool used most frequently was SF-36, and WHOQOL-BREF and SF-8 were also used. The selected programs were classified as were exercise programs and complex programs. For most of the exercise programs, interventions were carried out for 12 weeks, three times a week for 30~60 minutes. In the case of the complex programs, the duration of interventions was nine weeks, and the frequency and time per session varied. All of the exercise programs showed significant effects. Among the complex programs, two studies showed significant effects, but the remaining one study did not. Conclusion : Through this study, the types and effects of occupational therapy programs for the quality of life of the elderly were examined. Hereafter, studies of the development and to verify the effects of these programs should be actively carried out.

They were divided 3 groups: acute, subacute, chronic. VAS(Visual Analogue Sacle) was analyzed for pain scale, and compared between the pre and post test among groups. Results: The acute patients' degree of the pain post therapy was decreased, the subacute patients' degree of the pain post therapy was decreased and the chronic patients' degree of the pain post therapy was decreased. There were statistically remarkable differences(p<0.05) in 3 groups. • This paper offers an approach to physical therapy and rehabilitation procedure for the temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). Forms of physical therapy are used in the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions that include TMD joint disorders. However, there still remains a void in the study as to the various rehabilitative protocols used on those patients with TMD. Recent evidence in clinical trials show that physical therapy is helpful for patients with TMD. Exercise programs designed to improve physical fitness had beneficial effects on TMD pain and dysfunction. This study establishes treatment procedures of physical therapy and provides a method of evaluation for patients with TMD disorders.

Pain degree of VAS was decreased at every taping therapy. 2. The range of motion of ankle joint was increased at every taping therapy. 3. Diameter of calf muscle was increased at every taping therapy. 4. Pattern of gait was normalized at every taping therapy. We found improve of pain degree, ROM of ankle joint, diameter of calf muscle, and pattern of gait. Therefore we can infer that taping therapy had effectiveness to those who had DOMS.
