From this, we can expect therapeutic possibility of herbal medicine chosen by 'A disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions' in schizophrenia. Methods : Daeseunggi-tang written in YangMyeong-JiWiByeong is applied to 31-year-old patient who diagnosed as schizophrenia and hospitalized for 3months taking antipsychotics. The patient was treated for a year. Results : Scores in Auditory Hallucination appended to PANSS and K-BDI were highly decreased. The patient takes no antipsychotics anymore for now. Conclusions : Auditory hallucination in Schizophrenia which needs antipsychotics can be managed by herbal medicine chosen by 'A disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions'.

Methods Herbal medication (Kamiyangsintang) and acupuncture were used for treatment. Also, VAS scale were used to check the improvement. Results The hands tremor was relieved during 4 months of treatment. However, the symptom was aggravated after one and a half years. The patient has shown improvement after retreatment. Conclusions This study showed that child patient diagnosed with essential tremor who received Kamiyangsintang and acupuncture treatments was improved. However, it also can be aggravated depending on the patients and their body condition. More cases and long-term observation in relation to early onset of tremor are required.

  • Synovial chondromatosis is a rare disease. The knee is the most commonly affected joint but the shoulder joint is very rarely affected. We report typical synovial chondromatosis of the shoulder joint which was managed by arthroscopic removal of multiple loose bodies, synovectomy, good objective and functional outcome was obtained until postoperative 7-year follow-up. Arthroscopy can be used as an effective and useful therapeutic method for synovial chondromatosis of the shoulder joint.

  • Current therapeutic modalities for severe oral lichen planus are generally unsatisfactory. Steroid treatment of lichem planus has been reported in the dermatology literature and dental literature, but few reports mention its efficacy for oral lesions. Some cases of severe erosive oral lichen planus revealed good response to this agent. So the author report two cases of erosive oral lichen planus treated with 0.05%. Dexamethasone methyl cellulose mouth wash and two intralesional injections of Triamcinolone acetonide suspension 0.2 mls, one week apart. 1. Subjective improvement was noticed in 4-5 days by two patients. 2. Objective improvement, however, was delayed and became apparent at several weeks 3. Continued improvement was noted in all patients.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the possibility of treatment of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer with Traditional Korean Medicine based allergen-removed Rhus verniciflua Stokes (ARVS) following chemoradiotherapy. Methods: A patient with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (stage IIIB) felt chest discomfort, fatigue, and anxiety after chemoradiotherapy. To prevent recurrence, he opted to receive Traditional Korean Medicine. Results: After treatment with ARVS, the size of the residual primary cancer and a metastatic lymph node decreased, without new cancerous regions. The patient has maintained good performance and has shown prolonged overall survival. Conclusions: This report suggests that ARVS may play a therapeutic role in the treatment of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer after chemoradiotherapy. Further studies will be needed to determine the effect of ARVS on locally-advanced unresectable non-small cell lung cancer.

  • Fire needling is an acupuncture procedure involving the swift pricking of diseased part with a red hot needle. The purpose of the present study is to report the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and fire needling combined therapy on the frozen shoulder patients. Each of patient received combined therapy of acupuncture and fire needling. Fire needling was carried out 2 or 3 times a week. Shoulder pain was evaluated by measuring visual analoge scale (VAS), range of movement (ROM), and global assessment and grade. All of the patinets treated with combined therapy exhibited decreasing of VAS and grade, increasing of ROM and global assessment.

  • Isolated injury to the pancreas after abdominal trauma is uncommon, and a delay in diagnosis and treatment can increase the morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic decisions with respect to pancreatic trauma are usually made based on the site of injury and the status of the pancreatic ductal system. In this report, we describe the surgical management of pancreatic head transection as an isolated injury following blunt abdominal trauma. A 55-year-old man presented with epigastric pain that radiated to the back. Abdominal computed tomography revealed a hematoma in the pancreatic head and upstream dilatation of the main pancreatic duct. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography showed complete disruption of and contrast leakage from the main pancreatic duct in the pancreatic head region with a nonenhanced upstream duct. Emergency pancreaticoduodenectomy was successfully performed, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 9 without any complications.

  • PET/CT is a new imaging technology that combines high-quality Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT). This imaging provides simultaneous anatomical and metabolic information. Therefore PET/CT is useful diagnostic modality for early detection of malignant tumor, accurate staging, decision on therapeutic plan, monitoring response to therapy and rapid detection of recurrence. We report oral and maxillofacial cancers diagnosed by using PET/CT and the usefulness of PET/CT in the evaluation of postoperative recurrence.

  • Age-related osteoporotic compression fractures occur frequently in old aged group recently. Percutaneous vertebroplasty has recently been introduced as a therapeutic method for the treatment of pain associated with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. Percutaneous intravertebral injection of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) results in marked reduction in pain and morbidity. Among complications during vertebroplasty with PMMA, pulmonary embolism is repotred occasionally but the reports about hypotension are not common. This case is a report of a patient whom significant hypotension occured during percutaneous vertebroplasty.
