  • With rapid urbanization, the importance of urban warfare is increasing, and it is also required to reflect the characteristics of cities in wargame models. However, in the military's wargame models, the urbanization factor was calculated and used without theoretical basis. In this study, we investigate techniques for estimating the urbanization factor using Fractal dimension theory. The urbanization factor we propose can suggest a logical and valid representative value when used in conjunction with Agent Based Model and other methodologies.

  • In this study, an integrated damage identification system (IDIS) using modal information to detect damage in structures is presented. The main dobjective is to develop a system of softwares that facilitates detecting damage locations and estimating damage severities in bridges. Firstly, theoretical background for IDIS is outlined. Secondly, a GUI-based IDIS software scheme are programmed. Finally, the feasibility and applicability of the IDIS software are experimentally demonstrated using small-scaled plate-girder models.

  • This study is performed to analyze of reinforced concrete beams under fire and to calculate remaining strength. The analysis is based on the assumption that plane section remains plane after bending due to load and non-linear temperature increases. Finite difference method is used to find temperature field in a section. The residual strength is attained considering the effect of temperature rise on the mechanical properties of concrete, self-equilibrium stress and reduced section. Further research in much needed on the material models of concrete since it governs temperature distribution and theoretical results.

  • In this paper, we propose to re-size images using an oblique projection operator instead of the orthogonal one in order to obtain faster, simpler, and more general algorithms. The main advantage is that it becomes perfectly feasible to use higher order models(e.g., splines of degree n 3). We develop the theoretical background and present a simple and practical implementation procedure that uses B-splines. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm consistently outperforms the standard interpolation method and that it essentially provides the same performance as the optimal procedure (least squares solution) with considerably less computations.

  • A spectrum analysis method is presented with an example as an aid to Box and Jerkins' model identification procedure, where the theoretical spectrum of ARMA model and its confidence intervals derived by chi-square distribution are compared. An APL (A Programming Language) program for the method is developed for the 16-bit personal computer.

  • The purpose of this study was to discuss previous studies and theories on family business. This study were to examine the dominant trends in the precious research, and to introduce several conceptual frameworks and models, such as family business theory, family resource management theory, theory of household adjustment and adaptation, and family business viability model. This study will be helpful in understanding of the relationship between family and business, and the work-family interface, and in developing policies and programs that assist family business and enhance the well-being for family members who are involved in family business.

  • Several theoretical models have been proposed in the past in an attempt to predict basic performance The focus of these research efforts has been mainly directed towards the understanding of the mechanical behavior of the structures. Some of these efforts are summarized below. Backer and Patterson pioneered a fiber web theory to accommodate the broad mechanical design requirements of nonwovens [1]. (omitted)

  • In this paper, a simple transmission line model for an edge-coupled patch antenna is presented. The coupled section is modeled with a lump network which represents the mutual admittance between patches and from patch to ground. Theoretical analysis of two edge-coupled patch antenna models are compared by simulation and experiment in antennas designed to operate at the 2 GHz band. The proposed model predicts the return loss of the antenna accurately.

  • The scattering problem of the randomly rough surface is examined by the method of moments(MoM), small perturbation method (SPM), integral equation method (IEM) and the semi-empirical polarimetic model. To apply the numerical technique of the MoM to microwave scattering from a rough surface, at first, many independent randomly rough surfaces with a rms height and a correlation length are generated with Gaussian random deviate. Then, an efficient Monte Carlo simulation technique is applied to estimate the scattering coefficients of the surfaces.

  • Baxed on the results tested by various researchers, a complete stress-strain relation of plain and confined concrete is proposed. The peak strength and the corresponding strain are calculated by using the Mohr-Coulomb theory and elastic tri-axial constitutive relation. A parametric study was conducted to assess the influence of the plain concrete strength, the degree of confinement, the shape of the section, and the tie configuration for the square section. According to this model, the behavior of concrete section is predicted, and compared with experimental data and other proposed models on circular and square sections. A good agreement between theoretical and experimental results is observed.
