  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of motive of use, stress and interpersonal satisfaction on smartphone overdependence in dental hygiene undergraduates. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 216 dental hygiene students in colleges in Dajeon and Chungnam regions. The results showed that motive of use(3-4hours/>4hours)(${\beta}=-0.178$), weekday usage (<3hours/3-4hours)(${\beta}=0.163$), and weekday usage (${\beta}=0.196$) had a high impact on smartphone overdependence in dental hygiene students. Weekday usage dummy 1 was the factor with the greatest impact, with an explanatory power of 25.6%. Additional studies on various factors that affect smartphone overdependence as well as education programs for preventing smartphone overdependence in dental hygiene students are needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of physical activity in the relationship between generalized anxiety disorder and overdependence on smartphones in adolescents. To find a way for solving the problems caused by the over-use of smartphones during adolescence, we tried to find the importance of a health promotion program through physical activities. For the purpose of the study, the 2020 Youth Health Behavior Survey data conducted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were used as analysis data for this study. As a result of the study, firstly, generalized anxiety disorder has a negative (-) relationship with physical activity, and physical activity also has a negative (-) relationship with overdependence on smartphones. Secondly, as a result of analyzing the mediating effect of physical activity in the relationship between generalized anxiety disorder and smartphone overdependence experience, the physical activity was found to be a significant factor. Thirdly, it was confirmed that the physical activity has a partial mediating effect in the relationship between generalized anxiety disorder and smartphone overdependence experience. Increasing physical activity through team sports rather than individual sports may help reduce smartphone use.

  • Purposes: The convenience of smartphones have lead to people's overdependence on devices, which may cause obstacles in daily life. It is useful to manage smartphone overdependence by using mobile health applications. We aimed to investigate the acceptance of mobile health applications designed to help in the management of smartphone overdependence. Methodology/Approach: We developed the extended model based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2. The modified model had six hypotheses with six variables: result demonstrability, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, perceived risk, and behavioral intention to use. We randomly included 425 smartphone users in an online survey in 2020. A structural equation model was used to estimate the significance of the path coefficients. Findings: Performance expectancy and social influence had a very strong direct positive association with behavioral intention to use. Result demonstrability had a direct positive association with performance expectancy. Perceived risk had a strong direct negative association with performance expectancy. Performance expectancy and social influence were the main factors directly influencing the acceptance of mobile health applications for the management of smartphone overdependence. Practical Implications: We demonstrated smartphone users' acceptance of mobile health applications for smartphone overdependence management. Based on these results, we could develop mobile health applications more effectively.

  • This study is a descriptive study to investigate the influence factors on smartphone overdependenceon in male middle school students. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 174 male middle school students about their smartphone overdependence, stress, ego - resilience, and use of smartphone by function. In results, 29.9% (potential risk group 23.6%, high risk group 6.3%) of the male middle school students were the smartphone overdependency risk group. A higher smartphone overdependency was associated with the higher the smartphone usage time per day, the higher the stress level, the higher the grade, and the lower the ego-resilience level. This requires the involvement of appropriate stress coping styles to overcome excessive stress situations. And the development and implementation of an intervention program that increases the level of ego-resilience can be expected to have an effect of controlling the smartphone use time as well as the intervention effect on stress coping.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the use of smartphones by children aged 3 to 5 years old and to propose a plan for prevention of overdependence. To this end, the data of 909 people aged 3 to 5 years old were used in the study from the raw data of the '2019 Smartphone Overdependence Survey' conducted by the National Information Society Agency. The research results are as follows : Infants aged 3 to 5 were using their smartphone for an average of more than an hour a day, it was found that smartphones were used in the order of video services and games, listening to music, educational contents and search services. Parents were found to be tolerant of their children's smartphone usage time and dependence. In particular, despite the fact that most infants and toddlers use smartphones to watch videos and use game content, they are not concerned. Therefore, parental education content for the use of smartphones by infants and toddlers needs to include comprehensive content on media use.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore methods to prevent and improve the problem of overdependence on smartphones by analyzing the differences in satisfaction with college life satisfaction of freshmen. For this, data on freshmen of KCYPS were extracted and used. The data were analyzed using non-hierarchical cluster(K-means) analysis, T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé tests. The results of this study are as follows. First, it has been shown that freshmen who are overdependent on smartphones experience inconvenience in their daily life, withdrawal and anxiety, and resistance. Second, there is no significant difference in the level of satisfaction with college life according to gender(t=-.015, p<.05). Third, it is shown that the level of satisfaction with college life of overdependent freshmen on smartphone is significantly lower compared to that of average and moderate dependent freshmen. Based on the results, it was suggested that university-level efforts such as emotional support and learning strategy support are needed for freshmen who are overdependent on smartphones.

  • This study aims to find the factors of Internet overdependence in adults, through the decision tree analysis model, which is a data mining method using National Information Society Agency's raw data from the survey on Internet overdependence in 2016. As a result of the decision tree analysis, a total 16 nodes of Internet overdependence risk groups were identified. The main predicated variables were the amount of time spent per smart media usage in weekdays; amount of time spent per smart media usage in weekends; experiences of purchasing cash items; percentage of using smart media for leisure; negative personality; percentage of using smart media for information search and utilization; and awareness on good functions of the Internet, all of which in order had greater impact on the risk groups. Users in the highest risk node spent the smart media for more than 5 minutes per use and less than 5~10 minutes in weekdays, had experiences of cash item purchase, and had lower level of awareness on the good functions of the Internet. The analysis led to the following recommendations: First, even a short-time use has higher chances of causing Internet overdependence, and therefore, guidelines need to be developed based on research on the usage behavior rather than the usage time. Second, self-regulation is required because factors that affect overindulgence in games, such as the cash items, increase Internet overdependence. Third, using the Internet for leisure causes higher risk of overdependence and therefore, other means of leisure should be recommended.

  • This study purposed to analyse smartphone addiction characteristics of people with disabilities and suggested to establish related prevention policies for them. The analysis of 20-50 aged 494 disabled people resulted, that the smartphone addiction rate of the disabled people was 12.55%. Smartphone use-, mobile messenger-, SNS- and game time were nearly the same or higher than the potential and high risk group from the survey on internet overdependence 2015. In the question about the awareness of smartphone addiction they answered the smartphone addiction is severe in the society, and they are aware of smartphone addiction counseling center. But they will not get a service form the centers. That suggests, that the government should promote the policy of smartphone addiction for the disabled. It should provide institutional strategy and structural change for prevention of smartphone addiction for the disabled.
