A Study on the Variation of Physical Properties on the Secondary Product of Cement by Using Crushed Stone Powder (폐석분을 사용한 시멘트 2차 제품의 물리적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • One of the basic physical properties of the hardened cement paste, the rigidity, is deteriorated during concrete matrix forming, depending on the replacement rate of the crushed stone powder, and due to drying shrinkage. Therefore, the concrete containing crushed stone powder has been limitedly used as non-structural construction material. To improve these disadvantages, a hydrothermal reaction employing method can be considered. High-temperature and high-pressure water is involved in the hydrothermal reaction in the mixing with specific materials. The rigidity improving mechanism is related to the synthesis of calcium silicate. The calcium silicate is produced through reaction between calcium compounds and the silicic acid. Various kinds of calcium silicate can be produced depending on the CaO/$SiO_2$ mole ratio, the temperature of the hydrothermal synthesis, the pressure, and the reaction time. The product of the synthesis mechanism, tobermorite crystal, plays a pivotal role for the rigidity reinforcement. The crushed stone powder, analyzed in this study, contains 50 to 60% of $SiO_2$ and 10 to 20% $Al_2O_3$. The composite rate is appropriate to create the tobermorite crystal through formation of hardened cement matrix under the hydrothermal synthetic conditions and with the CaO in the cement. Moreover, further reinforcement was promoted using the property of material under the identical density through promoting the formation of tobermorite crystal.

Analysis of the Characteristics of Manufactured Concrete, according to the Type of Admixture used when Remixing and Placing it (혼화제 종류별로 제조된 콘크리트의 재 혼합 타설시 특성 분석)

  • In recent years, the demand for the development of high quality and cost effective materials, as well as the competition to ensure a diverse and sufficient amount of ready-mixed concrete, has been increasing rapidly. In this experiment, concretes made with different admixtures are blended with each other in different combinations and ratios, in order to identify potential problems. The first test was a slump level test, in which all of the concretes met the required numbers, as they also did in the test for air content. Plain organic acid concrete scored the highest in bleeding amount, but organic acid mix in general showed a similar outcome. In the early measurement of compressive strength, plain naphthalene concrete was the strongest. Of the blends, the 5:5 mix of organic acid and naphthalene was the strongest. In the standard measurement, the 5:5 mix of naphthalene and lignin was the strongest. Tensile strength tests revealed similar results. Length change rate proved to be greater in blended concrete than in plain concrete, and dry shrinkage rate was highest in the 7:3 ratio blends. Through SEM photo analysis, it was confirmed that the 7:3 ratio blends contained more micro-voids. In conclusion, with the exception of a specific few combinations, it was found that the blending of different types of concrete is undesirable due to the delayed coagulation time as well as the early decrease in strength.

Radiation Induced-Grafting of Acrylic Acid onto Polyvinyl Chloride Fibers

  • The grafting of acrylic acid in aqueous solution to polyvinyl chloride fibers tab been studied in the presence of ferrous, ferric, and cupric salts, The mutual irradiation technique was adopted using a Co-60 source or a Van do Graaff accelerator. The grafting and homopolymerization were suppressed by the cations. Particularly the grafting was suppressed by the cations in the following order of effectiveness : $Cu^{2+}$>$Fe^{2+}$>$Cu^{3+}$. The rate of grafting (in %/hr) was proportional to the 0.76th power of the dose rate over the range from 8.5f $10^3$ rad/hr to $1.4\times10^5$ rad/dr. The apparent activation energy for the grafting was determined to be 6.1 Kcal/mole between $25^{\circ}$ and $75^{\circ}C$ for the mixture of AA-HaO-$(CH_2Cl)_2$, containing Mohr's salt, $4\times10^{-3}$ mole/l. The increase of the grafting was observed when total dose and dose intensity were raised, or when ethylene dichloride as a swelling agent was saturated in the monomer mixture. The grafted polyvinyl chloride fibers showed considerable improvement in moisture regain, heat shrinkage, and melting properties, but tensile properties were not significantly affected by grafting.

  • Heat transfer characteristics for heat retrieving processes in a paraffin-filled horizontal circular cylinder was studied. Theoretical and experimental analyses were carried out. In the theoretical analysis, solid and liquid phases were treated separately. Namely, convection for liquid and conduction for solid phase were investigated respectively. The retrieved heat was calculated from the experimentally determined solidified mass. Furthermore, the effects of initial temperature of the liquid and cooling temperature on the heat discharge rate were also studied. In the heat retrieving process, the governing factor for the solidifying rate is the cooling temperature, because most of the liquid sensible heat is rapidly discharged in the initial stage of solidification. Hence heat transfer mechanism during heat retrieving process can be safely considered as conduction. In the cut of frozen paraffin, there showed an empty space in the upper region. It is caused by the temperature drop in the liquid paraffin. While volume shrinkage caused by phase transition was indiscernible. Irrespective of cooling temperature and initial liquid temperature, solidified mass was well-correlated with the product of Fourier number and Stefan number in the solid phase.

A Study on Characteristics of Polymer Organic Hard Mask Synthesis (고분자 유기하드마스크 합성에 따른 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper was to synthesize a polymer organic hard mask that simplifies the manufacturing process, reduces process time significantly, and thereby lowers manufacturing costs. The results of measuring residual metals through vapor refining showed that 9-Naphthalen-1-ylcarbazole(9-NC) measured 101.75ppb in the 4th zone, 2-Naphthol (2-NA) measured 306.98ppb in the 5th zone, and 9-Fluorenone(9-F) measured between 129.05ppb across the 4th and 5th zones. After passing through a filtration system, the synthesized organic hard mask measured residual metals in the range of 9 to 7ppb. Additionally, the thermal analysis indicated a decrease of 2.78%, a molecular weight of 942, carbon content of 89.74%, and a yield of 72.4%. The etching rate was measured at an average of 18.22Å/s, and the coating thickness deviation was averaged at 1.19. For particle sizes below 0.2㎛ in the organic hard mask, no particles were observed. By varying the coating speed at 1,000, 1,500, and 1,800rpm and measuring the resulting coating thickness, the shrinkage rate ranged from 17.9% to 20.8%. The coating results demonstrated excellent adhesion to SiON, and it was evident that the organic hard mask was uniformly applied.

Flame Retardant Properties of Polymer Cement Mortar Mixed with Light-weight Materials for 3D Printing (3D 프린팅용 경량재료 혼입 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르의 난연특성)

  • 3D printing is not only at the fundamental study and small-scale level, but has recently been producing buildings that can be inhabited by people. Buildings require a lot of cost and labor to work on the form work, but if 3D printing is applied to the building, the construction industry is received attention from technologies using 3D printing as it can reduce the construction period and cost. 3D printing technology for buildings can be divided into structural and non-structural materials, of which 3D printing is applied to non-structural materials. Because 3D printing needs to be additive manufacturing, control such as curing speed and workability is needed. Since cement mortar has a large shrinkage due to evaporation of water, cement polymer dispersion is used to improve the hardening speed, workability, and adhesion strength. The addition of polymer dispersion to cement mortar improves the tensile strength and brittleness between the cement hydrate and the polymer film. Cement mortar using polymer materials can be additive manufacturing but it has limited height that can be additive manufacturing due to its high density. When light-weight materials are mixed with polymer cement mortar, the density of polymer cement mortar is lowered and the height of additive manufacturing, so it is essential to use light-weight materials. However, the use of EVA redispersible polymer powder and light-weight materials, additional damage such as cracks in cement mortar can occur at high temperatures such as fires. This study produced a test specimen incorporating light-weight materials and EVA redispersible polymer powder to produce exterior building materials using 3D printing, and examined flame resistance performance through water absorption rate, length change rate, and cone calorimeter test and non-flammable test. From the test result, the test specimen using silica sand and light-weight aggregate showed good flame resistance performance, and if the EVA redispersible polymer powder is applied below 5%, it shows good flame resistance performance.

  • The effect of sintering condition on the mechanical properties and leachability of polydispersed ceramic core body made by gel-casting process in aqueous medium have been investigated. The polydispersed ceramic slip that has low viscosity($\leq$1000cP, at 1000cP (at $50sec^{-1}$ ) and high solid loading(50vo1%) was obtained. The green bodies were fabricated through casting and gelation at room temperature followed by drying at $25^{\circ}C$for 48hrs under relative humidity of 80%. Crack-free green body was successfully fabricated through the above process. The strength at room temperature, apparent bulk density, and shrinkage of the ceramic core body increased propotionally with increasing sintering temperature(1100~150$0^{\circ}C$). However, porosity of the ceramic core body showed relatively low vague. Leaching rate of sintered core body increased with increasing porosity of the sintered body, and was significantly dependent upon the concentration of alkali caustic solution at the same leaching temperature.

Study on the Thickness Effect of the Separator for Lithium Secondary Batteries (리튬이차전지용 분리막의 두께에 따른 특성 연구)

  • There is increasing demand on the reducing the weight and the volume of the major components in lithium secondary battery to improve energy density. Separator not only provides pathway for lithium ion movement but also prevents direct contact between anode and cathode. Herein we fabricated polyethylene separator by varying biaxial stretching ratio to obtain membrane thickness of 16, 12, and $9{\mu}m$. Mechanical and thermal properties of the separator with different thickness were investigated. Also rate capability and charge-discharge cycle property up to 500 cycles were studied using coin type full-cell with $LiCoO_2$ and graphite as a cathode and an anode, respectively. All the cells using separator with different thickness demonstrated excellent capacity retention after 500cycles (around 80%). Considering the rate capability, cell using separator with thickness of $9{\mu}m$ showed best performance. Interestingly, separator thickness of $9{\mu}m$ was more resistant to heat contraction compared to that of $16{\mu}m$ separator.

  • Polyethylene (PE) separator is the most popular separator for lithium-ion batteries. However, it suffers from thermal contraction and mechanical rupture. In order to improve the thermal/mechanical dimensional stabilities, this study investigated the effects of $Si_3N_4$ coating. SCS (Silicon-nitride Coated Separator) has been fabricated by applying 10 ${\mu}m$-thick $Si_3N_4$/PVdF coating on one side of PE separator. SCS exhibits enhanced thermal stability over $100{\sim}150^{\circ}C$: its thermal shrinkage is reduced by 10~20% compared with pristine PE separator. In addition, SCS shows higher tensile strength than PE separator. Employing SCS hardly affects the C-rate performance of $LiCoO_2$/Li coin-cell, even though its ionic conductivity is somewhat lower than that of PE separator.

Fabrication and Permeation Properties of Tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ Membranes for Oxygen Separation (산소분리를 위한 $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-{\delta}}$ 관형 분리막 제조 및 투과 특성)

  • Tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-${\delta}$}$ membranes were prepared by extrusion. TGA results of green body membrane after extrusion showed three successive weight losses due to decomposition of organic additives and carbonate. Drying shrinkage rate of tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-${\delta}$}$ membranes was no change after 68 h and higher in the membrane with large outer diameter. XRD and SEM results showed the sintered membranes were the single phase structure and dense. The stoichiometric molar ratio agreed well with composition ratio calculated by EDS results for $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-${\delta}$}$ membrane. Radial crushing strength of tubular $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-${\delta}$}$ membrane with 0.95 mm thickness was 5.7 kgf/$mm^2$ and the oxygen permeation rate of same membrane was 146.85 mL/min ($Jo_2$=2.33 mL/$min{\cdot}cm^2$) at $950^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was known that use of vacuum pump was more effective than that of sweep gas to obtain higher oxygen permeation flux.
