Two important sensitivity issues over shortest path problems have been discussed. One is the problem of updating shortest paths when nodes are added and when the lengths of some arcs are increased or decreased. The other is the problem of calculating arc tolerances, that is the maximum increase of decrease in the length of a single arc without changing a given optimal tree. In this paper, assuming that there exists a parameter of interest whose perturbation causes the simultaneous changes in arc lengths, we find the invariance condition on these simultaneous changes such that the shortest path between two specified nodes remains unchanged.
Shortest path calculations for a large-scale network have to be performed using a decomposition techniqre, since the calculations require large memory size which increases by the square of the number of vertices in the network. Also, the calculation time increases by the cube of the number of vertices in the network. In the decomposition technique, the network is broken into a number of smaller size subnetworks for each of which shortest paths are computed. A union of the solutions provides the solution of the original network. In all of the decomposition algirithms developed up to now, boundary vertices which divide all the subnetworks have to be included in computing shortest paths for each subnetwork. In this paper, an improved algorithm is developed to reduce the number of boundary vertices to be engaged. In the algorithm, only those boundary vertices that are directly connected to the subnetwork are engaged. The algorithm is suitable for an application to real time computation using a parallel processor system which consists of a number of micro-computers or prcessors. The algorithm has been applied to a 39- vertex network and a 232-vertex network. The results show that it is efficient and has better performance than any other algorithms. A parallel processor system has been built employing an MZ-80 micro-computer and two Z-80 microprocessor kits. The former is used as a master processor and the latter as slave processors. The algorithm is embedded into the system and proven effective for real-time shortest path computations.
Multicast routing algorithms such PIM, CBT, BGMP use shared multicast routing trees and the location of the multicast tree has great impact on the packet delay. In this pater we propose three new center location algorithms and analyze their performance through simulation studies. these three algorithms consider as candidates for the center not only multicast group members but also a few non-members nodes. To select these non-member nodes, we first find all the shortest paths among every couple of members and consider either nodes which are most frequently visited during the process of finding shortest paths or nodes which lie at the center of a shortest path and are most frequently visited during the same process. There the proposed algorithms are able to find the better center than not only algorithms which consider only member nodes but also other algorithms which consider selected non-member nodes in addition ot member nodes. The proposed algorithms either incur too much overhead nor depend upon unicasting algorithms.
Finding link-disjoint or node-disjoint paths under multiple constraints is an effective way to improve network QoS ability, reliability, and so on. However, existing algorithms for such scheme cannot ensure a feasible solution for arbitrary networks. We propose design principles of an algorithm to fill this gap, which we arrive at by analyzing the properties of optimal solutions for the multi-constrained link-disjoint path pair problem. Based on this, we propose the link-disjoint optimal multi-constrained paths algorithm (LIDOMPA), to find the shortest link-disjoint path pair for any network. Three concepts, namely, the candidate optimal solution, the contractive constraint vector, and structure-aware non-dominance, are introduced to reduce its search space without loss of exactness. Extensive simulations show that LIDOMPA outperforms existing schemes and achieves acceptable complexity. Moreover, LIDOMPA is extended to the node-disjoint optimal multi-constrained paths algorithm (NODOMPA) for the multi-constrained node-disjoint path pair problem.
This paper presents a global path planning algorithm based on a visibility graph method, and applies additionally various constraints for constructing the reduced visibility graph. The modification algorithm for generating the rounded path is applied to the globally shortest path of the visibility graph using the robot size constraint in order to avoid the obstacle. In order to check the visibility in given 3D map data, 3D CAD data with VRML format is projected to the 2D plane of the mobile robot, and the projected map is converted into an image for easy map analysis. The image processing are applied to this grid map for extracting the obstacles and the free space. Generally, the tree size of visibility graph is proportional to the factorial of the number of the corner points. In order to reduce the tree size and search the shortest path efficiently, the various constraints are proposed. After short paths that crosses the corner points of obstacles lists up, the shortest path among these paths is selected and it is modified to the combination of the line path and the arc path for the mobile robot to avoid the obstacles and follow the rounded path in the environment. The proposed path planning algorithm is applied to the mobile robot LCAR-III.
In the circuit model that outputs are latched and input vectors are successively applied at inputs, the gate resizing approach to reduce the delay of the critical pathe may not improve the performance. Since the clock period is etermined by delays of both long and short paths in combinational circuits, the performance (clock period) can be optimized by decreasing the delay of the longest path, or increasing the delay of the shortest path. In order to achieve the desired clock period of a circuit, gates lying in sensitizable long and short paths can be selected for resizing. However, the gate selection in path sensitization approach is a difficult problem due to the fact that resizing a gate in shortest path may change the longest sensitizable path and viceversa. For feasible settings of the clock period, new algorithms and corresponding gate selection methods for resizing are proposed in this paper. Our new gate selection methods prevent the delay of the longest path from increasing while resizing a gate in the shortest path and prevent the delay of the shortest path from decreasing while resizing a gate in the longest sensitizable path. As a result, each resizing step is guaranteed not to increase the clock period. Our algorithmsare teted on ISCAS85 benchmark circuits and experimental results show that the clock period can beoptimized efficiently with out gate selection methods.
