Representative Batch Normalization for Scene Text Recognition

  • Scene text recognition has important application value and attracted the interest of plenty of researchers. At present, many methods have achieved good results, but most of the existing approaches attempt to improve the performance of scene text recognition from the image level. They have a good effect on reading regular scene texts. However, there are still many obstacles to recognizing text on low-quality images such as curved, occlusion, and blur. This exacerbates the difficulty of feature extraction because the image quality is uneven. In addition, the results of model testing are highly dependent on training data, so there is still room for improvement in scene text recognition methods. In this work, we present a natural scene text recognizer to improve the recognition performance from the feature level, which contains feature representation and feature enhancement. In terms of feature representation, we propose an efficient feature extractor combined with Representative Batch Normalization and ResNet. It reduces the dependence of the model on training data and improves the feature representation ability of different instances. In terms of feature enhancement, we use a feature enhancement network to expand the receptive field of feature maps, so that feature maps contain rich feature information. Enhanced feature representation capability helps to improve the recognition performance of the model. We conducted experiments on 7 benchmarks, which shows that this method is highly competitive in recognizing both regular and irregular texts. The method achieved top1 recognition accuracy on four benchmarks of IC03, IC13, IC15, and SVTP.

그림자 현상에 대한 초등학생의 시각적 표상 능력 (Analysis of Elementary School Students' Visual Representation Competence for Shadow Phenomenon)

  • 본 연구와 관련된 선행 연구에서는 과학 교수 학습 과정에서 효과적인 시각적 표상 활용과 연구를 촉진하기 위한 목적으로 2개 차원으로 구성된 시각적 표상 능력의 교육목표 분류체계(visual representation competence taxonomy: VRC-T)가 개발되었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 VRC-T에 기초하여 그림자 현상에 대한 초등학생의 시각적 표상 능력을 조사하고 그림자에 대한 과학 지식과 표상 능력 사이의 관계 및 VRC-T 인지 과정의 위계 관계를 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구 결과 그림자 현상에 대한 초등학생의 시각적 표상 능력을 '해석하기', '통합하기', '구성하기'의 대범주로 나누어 보면 대체적으로 '해석하기'가 가장 점수가 높고, 다음이 '구성하기', '통합하기'의 순으로 나타났다. 또 학생들이 정규 교육과정에서 그림자 관련 단원을 학습한 이후임에도 불구하고 시각적 표상 능력은 높지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 텍스트 기반의 과학 지식은 시각적 표상 능력의 모든 범주와 상관이 높지 않았다. 이것은 텍스트 형식의 과학 지식을 가지고 있더라도 시각적 표상 능력은 갖추어져 있지 않을 가능성이 크다는 것과 과학 수업에서 시각적 표상을 좀 더 강조하여 다루어야 할 필요성을 나타낸다. 마지막으로 서열화 이론에 따라 그림자 현상에 대한 시각적 표상 능력의 인지 과정 위계 관계를 탐색한 결과, 인정비율을 다소 느슨하게 하는 경우 6개 인지 과정 사이에 일직선의 위계 관계가 발견되었다. 이것은 평가 도구나 과제, 시각적 표상 능력을 지도하는 수업 활동을 계획할 때 VRC-T가 유용하게 활용될 수 있는 분석틀임을 시사한다.

  • In this paper we intended to discuss the following topics: (1) Notation, generalities, Markov processes. The close relationship between (generators of) Markov processes and the martingale problem is exhibited. A link between the Korovkin property and generators of Feller semigroups is established. (2) Feynman-Kac semigroups: 0-order regular perturbations, pinned Markov measures. A basic representation via distributions of Markov processes is depicted. (3) Dirichlet semigroups: 0-order singular perturbations, harmonic functions, multiplicative functionals. Here a representation theorem of solutions to the heat equation is depicted in terms of the distributions of the underlying Markov process and a suitable stopping time. (4) Sets of finite capacity, wave operators, and related results. In this section a number of results are presented concerning the completeness of scattering systems (and its spectral consequences). (5) Some (abstract) problems related to Neumann semigroups: 1st order perturbations. In this section some rather abstract problems are presented, which lie on the borderline between first order perturbations together with their boundary limits (Neumann type boundary conditions and) and reflected Markov processes.

계층적 데이터 구조를 이용한 3차원 물체인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on 3-D Object Recognition using Hierarchical Data Structure)

  • This paper presents a recognition method which interprets 3-D object in terms of several silhouettes of quadtree and octree. Object representation used in object matching should be invariant with respect to locatin and orientation of the object. Generalized octree is projected on to image plane along the principal axes. Regular octree is made from orthogonal directions, but generalized octree is independent to viewing directions. Recognition process is achieved in two-stage matching. The quadtrees and octrees of unknown object with minimum dissimilarities are matched with the quadtrees and octrees of the models. So as to verify efficiency of 3-D object representation and accuracy of object recognition, experiments are performed for 14 different type of geometrical models and its results have been shown.

AR based ornament design system for 3D printing

  • In recent years, 3D printers have become popular as a means of outputting geometries designed on CAD or 3D graphics systems. However, the complex user interfaces of standard 3D software can make it difficult for ordinary consumers to design their own objects. Furthermore, models designed on 3D graphics software often have geometrical problems that make them impossible to output on a 3D printer. We propose a novel AR (augmented reality) 3D modeling system with an air-spray like interface. We also propose a new data structure (octet voxel) for representing designed models in such a way that the model is guaranteed to be a complete solid. The target shape is based on a regular polyhedron, and the octet voxel representation is suitable for designing geometrical objects having the same symmetries as the base regular polyhedron. Finally, we conducted a user test and confirmed that users can intuitively design their own ornaments in a short time with a simple user interface.

  • In this paper a free-form hull design program and performance prediction program for planing boat is introduced. This program enables the designer to do complex geometric hull shape design on a personal computer and accurately to predict power requirements for a given loading and velocity. For a free form design, Bezier curve model is adopted as a basic representation tool of curves and surfaces, and this program has versatile functions to do fairing jobs with a convenient graphical user interface. After creating a hull form the geometric data is provided in a manner compatible with a variety of analysis tools including 'Motion Analysis(by Zarnick)' for prediction of motion characteristics in regular waves, 'Running Attitude (by Savitsky)' for prediction of the running attitude and required power.

  • In this paper, we determine position vector of a line of curvature of a regular surface which is relatively normal-slant helix, with respect to Darboux frame. Then, a vector differential equation is established by means Darboux formulas, in the case of the geodesic torsion is vanishes. In terms of solution, we determine the parametric representation of a line of curvature which is relatively normal-slant helix, with respect to standard frame in Euclidean 3-space. Thereafter, we apply this result to find the position vector of a line of curvature which is isophote curve.

형식불역의 원리를 통한 고차원 도형의 탐구 (An investigation on the hyper-dimensional figure by the principle of the permanence of equivalent forms)

  • 본 논문에서는 형식불역의 원리를 적용하여 4차원 이상의 고차원 도형 중 특별한 몇 가지 도형의 기하학적 모델을 탐구해 보면서 이것이 기존의 일반적인 수학적 성질과 원리, 법칙에 모순됨이 없는지를 검증해 보았다. 정다면체는 5개뿐이라는 설명 방식에 형식불역의 원리를 적용하면 4차원 정다포체는 6개뿐임을 설명할 수 있다. 그리고 두 가지 정의(기둥형과 뿔형)에 의해 만들어진 볼록한 고차원 도형들은 다면체에서의 오일러 정리를 일반화한 오일러 특성수에 정확히 들어맞는다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 특히, 뿔형의 경우는 그 도형의 꼭지점, 모서리, 면, 입체 등의 개수들이 파스칼의 삼각형 구조를 이루고 있으며 기둥형의 경우는 임의로 정한 수의 모든 약수들을 하세의 다이어그램을 통해 약수와 배수의 관계로 표현할 수 있다. 이러한 소재들은 영재 교수학습용 자료로도 활용할 수 있을 것이다.
