Steel Module-to-Concrete Core Connection Methods in High Rise Modular Buildings: A Critical Review

  • Modularization in a high-rise building is different from a small building, as it is exposed to more lateral forces like wind and earthquakes. The integrity, robustness, and overall stability of the modules and their performance is based on the joining techniques and strong structural systems. High lateral stiff construction structures like concrete shear walls and frames, braced steel frames, and steel moment frames are used for the stability of high-rise modular buildings. Similarly, high-rise stick-built buildings have concrete cores and perimeter frames for lateral load strength and stiffness. Methods for general steel-concrete connections are available in many works of literature. However, there are few modular-related papers describing this connection system in modular buildings. This paper aims to review the various research and practice adopted for steel-to-concrete connections in construction and compare the methods between stick-built buildings and modular buildings. The literature review shows that the practice of steel module-to-concrete core connection in high-rise modular buildings is like outrigger beams-to-concrete core connection in stick-built framed buildings. This paper concludes that further studies are needed in developing proper guidelines for a steel module-to-concrete core connection system in high-rise modular buildings.

Intensive comparison of semi-parametric and non-parametric dimension reduction methods in forward regression

  • Principal Fitted Component (PFC) is a semi-parametric sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) method, which is originally proposed in Cook (2007). According to Cook (2007), the PFC has a connection with other usual non-parametric SDR methods. The connection is limited to sliced inverse regression (Li, 1991) and ordinary least squares. Since there is no direct comparison between the two approaches in various forward regressions up to date, a practical guidance between the two approaches is necessary for usual statistical practitioners. To fill this practical necessity, in this paper, we newly derive a connection of the PFC to covariance methods (Yin and Cook, 2002), which is one of the most popular SDR methods. Also, intensive numerical studies have done closely to examine and compare the estimation performances of the semi- and non-parametric SDR methods for various forward regressions. The founding from the numerical studies are confirmed in a real data example.

  • 친환경 녹색성장 대표 교통수단인 철도는 자동차와는 달리 연계환승 체계가 꼭 필요한 교통수단이다. 이에 주요 철도거점역을 중심으로 하는 연계체계의 필요성은 국가적인 핵심 사업으로 필요하게 될것이다, 따라서 이용고객의 환승체계의 시스템이 이루어지지 않으면 녹색성장 및 대중교통 활성화 서비스는 멀게만 느껴질것이다. 아울러, 본 연구에서는 경남지역 철도거점역(창원, 북창원, 마산) 과 타 교통수단간 연계 환승 구축 및 활성화 방안을 소개하고자 한다. 이 방안은 지역거점역의 연계환승체계 구축 모델이 될 수 있을것으로 판단되며, 철도 대중교통 이용고객 편의를 위한 방안으로 적용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

지대주 풀림과 조임시 지대주 세척방법에 따른 임플란트 주변 골소실의 양에 대한 평가 (Effect of cleansing methods on the bone resorption due to repeated dis/re-connection of implant abutment)

  • Background : Repeated dis/re-connection of implant abutment caused bone loss around implant fixtures due to the new formation of biologic width of the mucosal-implant barrier. The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate whether the repeated dis/re-connection of implant abutment cause bone loss clinically and the effect of cleansing methods on a bone loss during the early healing period. Methods : A total 50 implants were installed in 20 patients and repeated dis/re-connection of abutment was performed at the time of surgery and once per week for 12 weeks. 0.9% normal saline solution as group1 and 0.1% chlorhexidine solution as group 2 was used to clean abutments. All patients had radiographs taken at the placement of implant and 4, 8, and 12 weeks postoperatively. The data for bone loss around implant were analyzed. Results: The marginal bone loss at 12 weeks were $1.28{\pm}0.51mm$, $1,32{\pm}0,57mm$ in the mesial and distal sides in group1, $1.94{\pm}0.75mm$, $1.81{\pm}0.84mm$ in group 2, respectively. In view of marginal bone loss, there was not a significant statistical difference between groups. Conclusions : Repeated dis/re-connection of implant abutment may not cause marginal bone loss around implant fixture although limited samples and short-term observation period. In spite of more bone loss in group 2, there was no statistical significant difference between groups. In context of those results, the clinical significance of the repeated dis/re-connection of implant abutment and the cleansing method of abutments is debatable when it comes to marginal bone loss during early healing period.

증폭모듈을 이용한 마이크로파 다단증폭기 설계시 최적의 모듈간 연결길이 결정 (Determination of the optimum connection length between modules in the design of microwave multistage amplifiers using amplifier modules)

  • In the design of microwave multi-stage amplifiers composed of N amplifier modules, the variation of performances of amplifier as various connection length between modules has been studied. In addition, the methods, equations and conditions for the maximum gain or the most flat gain are presented. The results of sensitivity analysis for the connection length showed that the small change in phase of input, output reflection coefficients(S$_{11}$, S$_{22}$) of module itself is the most important in determination of connection length for the most flat gain. Th egain flatness of 2-module amplifier of which connection length between modules had been determined by presented methods was the best one out of performances with various arbitrary connectio lengths.s.

  • The connection method of CCPU has been changed from connection between sheath and grounding to connection between sheaths without grounding since 1997. In domestic, there is so many cases that cables circuits were installed before 1997, added in same route after that, operated as multi-connecting systems of CCPU in same route. This paper examine the problem of multi-connecting system by EMTP simulation, and presents methods to improve the system characteristics.

The use of small scale model testing to compare connection methods of steel purlins

  • Testing of steel roof purlins is usually performed on full scale models in large vacuum test rigs. To undertake a comparison between web cleat connected purlins and flange bolted purlins a series of tests were performed on a 1:4 small scale model vacuum test rig. Various modelling issues need to be addressed to ensure reasonable comparison with actual constructed roof framing methods but still be suitable for an economical comparison between the connection methods. Model test results were supported by, and found to be in reasonable agreement with, deflection predictions from computer models based on finite element methods. This paper discusses the testing methods adopted and the value of small scale model testing programs as a means of obtaining comparisons between framing options.

강관말뚝 기초 두부 연결부의 압축거동에 관한 연구 (The Study on Compressive Behavior of Connection Member between Steel Pipe Pile and Concrete Footing)

  • Generally, application of steel pile as deep foundation member needs specials requirement for the connection method between steel pipe and concrete footing. To investigate real compressive behavior of connection member between steel pipe pile and concrete footing, three specimens were tested with carefully designed experimental system. Main test variable is the connection method between steel pipe pile and concrete footing. The bolted bonding method and hook bonding method was considered as the connection method in this study. From the test results gained from experiment, it was conformed that two types of connection method have the almost same compressive resistance capacity. Therefore, we can conclude that these two connection methods can be used as the strengthening method to verify the compressive composite action of concrete and steel pipe pile.

Investigation of semi-rigid bolted beam connections on prefabricated frame joints

  • Bolted connections are used commonly in the precast reinforced concrete structures. In such structures, to perform structural analysis, behaviour of connections must be determined. In this study, elastic rotation stiffness of semi-rigid bolted beam connections, applied in industrial precast structures, are determined by finite element methods. The results obtained from numerical solutions are compared with an experimental study carried out for the same connections. Furthermore, stress distributions of the connection zone are determined and a reinforcement scheme is proposed. Thus, a more appropriate reinforcement arrangement for the connection zone is enabled. The connection joint of the prefabricated frame is described as rigid, hinged or elastic, and a static analysis of the frame system is performed for each case. Values of bending moments and displacements obtained from the three solutions are compared and the effects of elastic connection are discussed.

  • 본 논문은 소규모 장치 및 모바일 장치 등에 탑재되고 있는 KVM, Waba VM의 탑재 기법 및 네이티브 코드 연결 기법을 기반으로 임베디드 시스템에 적합한 가상기계의 정적/동적 라이브러리 연결 기법에 관한 연구이다. 이를 위해, KVM, Waba VM의 네이티브 함수 연결 기법을 기반으로 정적/동적 라이브러리 함수 연결을 위한 새로운 네이티브 함수 테이블을 구현하였다. 또한 구현된 기법을 이용하여 다양한 실험 및 분석 결과를 제시하였다.
