The Lived Experience of Home Health Nurses' Role Conflicts: A Phenomenology Study (가정전문간호사의 역할갈등 체험에 관한 현상학적 연구)

  • Purpose: To explore the lived experience of home health nurses' role conflicts and the associated meaning of those as perceived by the home health nurses. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted between November 2021 and January 2022 among five home health nurses who were recruited. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and inductively analyzed using Colaizzi's descriptive phenomenological inquiry. Results: The participants' lived experience of role conflicts were grouped into four main categories, namely role conflicts due to shortage of qualified home health nurses, role conflicts exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, interpersonal relationship conflicts, and conflicts with existing systems and their solutions. Conclusion: Knowledge developed from the experiences of the participants indicated various role conflicts, both interpersonal and systematical, while they recognized the significance of their role as the home health nurses. In the future, support systems should be established at the organizational and systematical levels to ensure a better workforce environment for home health nurses.

A Study on Elderly Nursing Home Design Direction Based on Yalom's Existential Psychotherapy (얄롬의 실존주의 심리치료에 의거한 노인요양시설 디자인 방향에 대한 연구)

  • This research comprehended the fundamental cause of elderly nursing home residents' negative feelings of loneliness, depression, fear, and loss of self-usefulness as existential issue, since they already went through loss, death of loved ones, geriatric disease and disability. The purpose of this research is to explore how existentialism and existential psychotherapy theory of Irvin D. Yalom can be applied to nursing home environment design, and to suggest design directions. Based on his framework of human's ultimate interest, death, freedom followed by responsibility, isolation, and meaninglessness, interior design suggestions and applicable spaces were presented. Four cases from Australia, Denmark, Japan and Korea were analyzed according to design suggestions to grasp the current situation and to draw further proposition. The conclusions are as follows. (1)Environment should support nursing home residents to resolve existential issues. (2)Death is the least supported issue on all of the cases. Environmental elements that can induce residents to think and discuss on death, hospice program and space for memorial service is necessary. (3)Regarding to freedom, the environment should support resident's disability to maintain independence as much as possible and residents autonomy and decision should be respected. Single/double rooms, motorized bed, free and safe usage of kitchen and garden are necessary. (4)For isolation, Space and time for meditation should be provided. (5)To find meaning of life, environment should support residents in both physical and cognitive aspect so that they can contribute to others. Space for hobby is necessary for continued creativity and self-realization.

  • This study aimed to investigate the validity and appropriate way of career education according to the integration of home economics subjects, as a way of revitalization of career education in technology and home economics subjects, after the implementation of free semester system. For this goal, the meaning and trend of free semester system, trend of subject-integrated career education, analysis of curriculum in technology home economics education subject, and trend of research about career education in home economics were investigated. The result was as in the following. First, in spite of the ambiguity of the meaning of free semester, the career education will be expanded as the importance of lifelong career education was more and more required. Second, the career paths separated from subjects had problem in its effectiveness, therefore, subject-integrated career education emphasizing on school subjects will become more crucial. Third, it was presented that extracting core achievement standard in subject-integrated career education in technology home economics education according to core achievement standard was critical. For these reasons, the objective and model of career education in home economics education under free semester system were illustrated.

Exploration of variables related to mother-adolescent conflict (어머니-청소년 자녀간의 갈등에 관련된 변인)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore variables that influence mother-adolescent conflict. Independent variables were adolescent's physical maturation, mother's self-esteem, and mother-adolescent communication pattern. The results were as follows: First, the degree of mother-adolescent conflict perceived by adolescents was low in general, but high in homework and academic achievement. Second, no sex difference was found in the degree of mother-adolescent conflict. Third, the mother-adolescent conflict was not significantly related to both of adolescent's physical maturation and mother's self-esteem. However, mother-adolescent communication meaning that the more open the communication between mother and adolescent was, the less conflict was found between them.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore 6 preservice teachers's perceptions and practices on children and teaching while they implemented the Project Approach. Using qualitative research, data were collected from individual and group reflections, interviews, classroom observations, and videotaping. Results showed that preservice teachers recognized the importance of observing children in context and the meaning of learning through the Project Approach. Preservice teachers developed their identities through reflective thinking on their theories and practices.

The Effects of Hospice Volunteer Education Program on Perceptions about Hospice and the Meaning of Life (호스피스 자원봉사자 교육프로그램 참여군과 비 참여군의 호스피스에 대한 인식과 삶의 의미 비교)

  • Purpose: This study was to compare the perceptions about hospice and the meaning of life between the participants and non-participants of the hospice volunteer education program. Method: Descriptive survey research design was used. Participants were 63, and the data collecting period was from October to December, 2006. Instrument developed by Jung-Hee Kim(1990) and Eun-Ja Lee(1998) was modified to measure the perceptions about hospice. To measure the meaning of life, P.I.L (Purpose In Life) instrument by Crumbaugh and Maholick(1969) was utilized. The data were analyzed using $X^2-test$, t-test and Pearson-Correlation Coefficient. Results: 1. The participants in the hospice volunteer education program demonstrated higher perception scores about hospice than the non-participants (t=5.193, p= .001). 2. The program participants also showed higher scores of the meaning of life than non-participants (t=3.084, p=.005). 3. The perception about hospice and the meaning of life had positive correlation (r= .46, p= .01). Conclusion: Therefore, hospice education program must be established in a continual and systematic way in order to standardize the hospice system in Korea.

Development and Application of a Home Connection Program on the Improvement of Mathematical Interaction of Parents of 3-year-olds (만 3세 유아 부모의 수학적 상호작용 증진을 위한 가정연계 프로그램의 개발 및 적용)

  • Objective: This study aimed to develop and apply the home connection program for promoting the mathematical interaction of parents of 3-year-olds. Methods: We surveyed questionnaires for 36 parents and interviewed 3 parents of 3-year-olds for the development of the program. Twenty-one 3-year-olds were selected as participants in the program. Quantitative data from a checklist for parent's mathematical interaction were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. Qualitative data from self-evaluation of teachers and parents were categorized and analyzed in terms of meaning. Results: Based on the home connection program, the session were provided in the following order [educare center activities ${\rightarrow}$ home-linked activities ${\rightarrow}$ home+educare integrated activities] and in each session, the three-step course [sharing of thinking ${\rightarrow}$ gathering of thinking ${\rightarrow}$ broadening of thinking] was applied. Implementation of this program led to promoting parental mathematical interaction. Conclusion/Implications: This study will lead to follow-up studies that reveal positive effects of our program.

Analysis of Media Literacy Content Reflected in Middle School Technology and Home Economics Textbooks (중학교 기술·가정 교과서에 반영된 미디어 리터러시 내용 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between home economics curriculum and media literacy education. For this purpose, 12 kinds = types of learning materials for middle school 'Technology·Home Economics 2' textbooks were analyzed. After selecting 'Media Literacy Performance Goals(MLPG)' as the basis for analysis, the distribution of media data and reflection of MLPG were analyzed by frequency and content analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, 39.6% of the learning materials using media materials out of the total learning materials of 12 textbooks, and there were differences in the frequency and weight of learning materials using media materials by publishers. Depending on the type of media, 68.3% of 'printing', 16.7% of 'images, video', 13.5% of 'digital', and 86.5% of the use of unidirectional media. Second, there was a difference in frequency and weight of learning materials reflecting the MLPG by publishers, and it was necessary to supplement the learning content to improve overall media literacy. Among the MLPG reflected in the learning materials, 'meaning and communication' was the most reflected performance goal, with 58.8%, but there was no two-way communication through the media. Based on the results of these textbook analysis, MLPG in Home Economics are revised as follows. 'Understanding the meaning and self-expression', 'Communication and social participation', 'Use of responsible media', 'Appreciation and enjoyment', 'Use of media technology', 'Information search and selection', 'Creation and production', 'Critical understanding and evaluation'.

Consumption Experiences and the Meaning of "Luxury" of Women (여성 소비자의 소비경험을 통해 본 "사치"의 의미분석)

  • By conducting an ethnographic interviewing for women who had been traditionally recognized as the subject in consumption and analyzing the perception that they had on luxuries and necessities, this study tried a naturalistic interpretation on a meaning of "(small) luxury" recently well known to everybody. The target of interview included 20 women in their 20s to 50s living in Seoul and Kyunggi region. The sampling was made in consideration of an age, marriage, occupation, and household income level, etc. The data analysis had the process of drawing a final theme after having a domain analysis and a taxonomy analysis. In so doing, (1) women's experience of consuming life was described; (2) The analysis was made on what they would pursue in a consuming life, with a focus on a symbolic nature of a consumption; (3) Lastly, through a naturalistic interpretation, a theme regarding a meaning that a "luxury" had for them was drawn. As a result of an analysis, 12 domains and 5 taxonomies were derived. On the basis of it, 3 themes were deduced with respect to a meaning that a "luxury" had under the women's experience of consumption.

Qualitative study on home delivery meal services for the elderly (배달 도시락 수혜노인의 '도시락 밥'에 대한 질적 연구)

  • As the importance of elderly's dietary life have increased, low-income elderly's meal should be taken care by social policies. Nevertheless, there is a lack of systematic management in home-delivery meal service. This study aims to investigate the elderly's experience on home-delivered meal service, especially identifying the symbolic meaning of home-delivered meal service on elderly's dietary life. Using an in-depth interview, qualitative data was collected from five elderly participants who received home-delivered meals. Data was analyzed based on Colaizzi's 6 steps method, deriving 148 significant statements, 18 formulated meanings, and 5 themes: , , , , and . Elderly participants regarded the home delivered meal as not only a decent meal but also felt appreciated. The home-delivered meals were found to be their only meal all day; thus, they considered these meals as a means of survival. Home-delivered meals are considered as a lack of consideration for the elderly's physical condition, including their tastes, portion size, and cooking method. Also, these elderly seemed to lose their appetite due to aging and it caused the enjoyment of eating. The elderly have kept silence never expressing any opinions regarding the home delivered meals because they were offered for free. The results suggested that the home-delivered meal service should be developed with the multilateral evaluation methods to reflect the elderly's needs to improve the quality of the home-delivered meal service.
