한국 서해산 꽃게 유생 및 치해의 생존율 및 성장 (Survival rate and growth of larvae and early juveniles in the swimming crab, Portunus trituberculatus (Miers) reared in the laboratory)

  • Swimming crabs, Portunus trituberculatus(Miers) are commercially important off the coasts of Korea, Japan and China. Harvest of swimming crabs has been fluctuated along their distribution ranges. Fluctuations in the interannual harvest of swimming crabs may be correlated with the survival rate during the larval period. The survival rates, intermolt periods, and growth of larval swimming crabs were investigated in the laboratory. Larval swimming crabs are released and undergo development from April to August off the western coast of Korea in the Yellow Sea. Sea surface temperatures off the western coast of Korea during the larval season were used for the laboratory experiments, and ranged from 22 to 26${^{\circ}C}$. Larvae were individually cultured at four different temperatures, 22${^{\circ}C}$, 24${^{\circ}C}$, 26${^{\circ}C}$, and 28${^{\circ}C}$. Zoea molted to megalopa at all temperatures and developed to the first crab stage at 24${^{\circ}C}$, 26${^{\circ}C}$, and 28${^{\circ}C}$. Survival rates from zoea I to the first crab stage increased with increasing temperatures. Intermolt period and the growth rate of the mean carapace length were inversely correlated with temperature. Our research helps understand the changes in survival rate and growth of larval swimming crabs resulting from changing oceanic temperatures. Further, our study suggests that the fluctuations in fishery harvest of swimming crabs off the coast of Korea may be related to changes in larval survival affected by changing ocean conditions.

Changes of Tree Growth and Fruit Quality of "Yumi" Peach under Long-Term Soil Water Deficit

  • Purpose: This paper presents the effects of soil drought stress during the growing season and pre-harvest period on tree growth and fruit quality of "Yumi" peach, an early season cultivar. Methods: Soil drought stresses were treated with four levels of -30, -50, -60, and -70 kPa during long term (LT) and short term (ST). For LT treatments, soil water was controlled for nine weeks from May 1 to July 5, which was assumed as the full growing season. For ST treatments, soil water was controlled for four weeks from June 10 to July 5, which was assumed as the pre-harvest season. Tree growth and leaf photosynthesis were measured, and fruit characteristics such as fruit weight and diameter, soluble solid and tannin contents, and harvest date were investigated. Results: Soil water deficit treatments caused a significant reduction in tree growth, leaf photosynthesis, and fruit enlargement. LT water stress over -60 kPa during the full growing season caused significant reduction in tree growth, including shoot length, trunk girth, leaf photosynthesis, and fruit enlargement. ST water stress over -60 kPa during the pre-harvest period also induced significant reduction in leaf photosynthesis and fruit enlargement, while tree growth was not reduced. In terms of fruit quality, water stress over -50 kPa significantly reduced fruit weight, increased soluble solid and tannin contents, and delayed harvest time in both LT and ST treatments. Conclusions: As a result, it is assumed that LT water stress over -60 kPa can reduce both tree growth and fruit enlargement, whereas ST water stress over -50 kPa can reduce fruit enlargement without reducing tree growth. From an agricultural perspective, moderate water deficit like -50 kPa treatments could have positive effects, such increased fruit soluble solid contents along with minimal reduction in fruit size.

지황의 비대시기와 수확시기 구명 연구 (Investigation of Rhizome Enlargement Stage and Harvest Time in Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Steud.)

  • Background: There have been no studies to date on rhizome development and optimal harvest timing for Rehmannia glutinosa. We therefore, undertook this investigation. Methods and Results: R. glutinosa 'Jihwang 1' was sown in early May and harvested in early November. Growth investigations were carried out at intervals of 10 days between 90 and 180 days after sowing (DAS). Leaf length, leaf width, and number of leaves increased until 150 DAS but decreased after 160 DAS. Rhizome length increased until 120 DAS subsequently, rhizome diameter increased rapidly between 130 and 150 DAS. Thus, the key period for rhizome enlargement in R. glutinosa is thought to be 130 to 150 DAS. Fresh root yield increased sharply from 916 kg/10a to 1,914 kg/10a between 4 and 5 months after sowing (MAS). Dry matter ratio increased gradually from 19.2% at 4 MAS to 24.4% at 6 MAS. Finally, the level of catalpol, a key active ingredient, increased sharply from 0.41% to 4.21% between 5 and 6 MAS. Given the dry matter ratio, catalpol content and yield measured, we suggest that optimal R. glutinosa harvest time is 6 MAS. Conclusions: Based on our results, the key period for rhizome enlargement is 130 to 150 DAS and optimal harvest timing is 6 MAS. We anticipate that these and other results of this study can be used to inform cultivation of R. glutinosa.

고랭지에 적합한 사료작물 2모작 작부체계에 관한 연구 (Effect of the Double Cropping at High Altitude Area Which was Cultivated Suitable Forage Crop)

  • This study was conducted to increase the utility and productivity of forage crops at high altitued areas. For that purpose, 21 cultivars of corn and 2 cultivars of rye were cultivated for 3 years using a randomized block designed with 3 replications. The results obtained were as follows. 1. In the Taekwallyong area (800m above sea level) which has a short frostless period, all the seeding and harvest of corn must be finished within about 135 days between mid May, the time of the last frost, and late September, the time of the first frost 2. It was relatively safe for the early maturity cultivar(ll0days) and the medium maturity cultivar(l20days), compared to the late maturity cultivar(l30days) which might have had the possibility of an overlapping period between the time of harvest and the first frost in high altitude areas 3. The productivity of forage corn, which is the most efficient crop for capturing solar energy, varied significantly with the climate circumstances but the productivity of Taekwallyong showed similar results of 19 M/T/ha, compared with 20 M/T/ha in Suwon from the '96-'98 study 4. Rye could be cultivated in high altitude areas and when corn was raised as a second crop after rye in the same year, it was possible to increase the productivity of dry matter yield by 20% through double cropping(P < 0.05). 뽕나무 접목묘에 관한 연구 III. 추기 굴취적기에 관하여 (Studies on the Mulberry Graftages. III. Optimum Season for Mulberry Graftage harvesting in Autumn)

  • 추기 된서리로 인한 자연낙엽에 관계없이 상묘를 굴취할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 1985년부터 2년간 전국 각도 9개 지역에서 9월 30일부터 11월 20일까지 10일 간격으로 6회에 걸쳐 굴취하여 묘질을 분석한 결과 다음과 같았다. 1. 묘목의 굵기는 10월 30일까지 다소의 증가를 보였다. 2. 조기굴취는 그루당 새순의 수와 길이를 떨어뜨렸으며, 10월 30일 굴취구에서 생육이 가장 양호하였다. 3. 10월 20일 이후는 자연낙엽에 관계없이 굴취하여도 활착율과 생육에 영향을 주지 않았다. 4. 굴취시기를 늦을수록 체내에 전실소와 P함량이 증가되는 반면 K는 감소하였으며 Ca는 일정하지 않았다. 5. 전실소, P, Ca 등은 뿌리껍질에서 보다 줄기껍질에 함량이 높았으며 K는 일정하지 않았다.

Quantitative Changes of Polyphenolic Compounds in Mulberry (Morus alba L.) Leaves in Relation to Varieties, Harvest Period, and Heat Processing

  • Six polyphenolic compounds, such as chlorogenic acid (CA), rutin (RT), isoquercitrin (IQT), quercetin-3-O-(6-O-malonyl)-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (QMG), astragalin (AG), kaempferol-3-O-(6-O-malonyl)-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (KMG), were isolated from mulberry leaves by a series of isolation procedures, such as Diaion HP-20, silica-gel, Sephadex LH-20, and ODS-A column chromatographies. The chemical structures of the phenolic compounds were identified by UV and NMR spectral analyses. Levels of polyphenols in mulberry leaves from six different mulberry cultivars ranged from 1,042.16 to 1,871.97 mg% per dry weight; Guksang cultivar showed the highest levels of polyphenols, whereas Gaeryangdaehwa contained the least polyphenol contents. Generally, levels of polyphenols in mulberry leaves decreased with increasing harvest time, except for Yoolmok, but increased with heat processing time, except QMG and KMG. These results suggest that the heat processed mulberry leaves of Guksang cultivar harvested in early May can be potentially useful sources for production of high quality mulberry leaf teas.

가을철 기온이 높은 지역에 위치한 '후지'/M.9 사과원의 수확시기에 따른 과실품질과 저장성 (Fruit Quality and Storability by Harvest Time at 'Fuji'/M.9 Apple Orchard Located in the Area with a High Air Temperature during the Fall Season)

  • 본 시험은 가을철 기온이 높게 유지되는 대구지역에서 성숙기 동안 '후지'의 과실품질 변화와 수확시기별 과실품질과 저장성을 3년(2007년, 2009년, 2010년) 조사하였다. 성숙기 동안 과실품질의 변화는 만개 후 120-135일부터 만개 후 183-198일까지 조사하였다. 수확시기별 과실품질과 저장성 비교는 만개 후 180일 이후에 수확한 과실들을 대상으로 하였다. 과실 성숙기 동안 대구지역 '후지'의 문제점은 $20^{\circ}C$의 높은 기온에 따른 착색불량이었다. 수확시기별 과실품질 비교에 있어, 수확시기가 연장될수록 가용성 고형물 함량과 착색은 높아졌다. 수확 시의 과중은 수확시기에 영향을 받지 않았고, 수확 시의 경도와 산 함량은 동결피해가 발생했을 때 심하게 감소되었다. 저온저장 20주 동안의 에틸렌 발생량 및 경도, 산 함량은 수확시기에 따른 차이가 없었다. 2009년 만개 후 216일에 수확한 과실들의 저온저장 중의 가용성 고형물 함량은 수확시의 가용성 고형물 함량과 비교해 비슷하였으나, 2009년 만개 후 201일에 수확한 과실들은 수확시보다 높아졌다. 그러나 동결피해를 받은 후 수확한 과실의 저온저장 후 경도, 가용성 고형물 함량 및 산 함량은 동결피해 발생 전에 수확한 과실보다 낮았다. 결론적으로 가을철 기온이 높은 지역에서 '후지' 과실을 만개 후 180-200일 대비 2-4주 정도 수확시기를 연장시키면 수확시의 가용성 고형물 함량 및 착색이 증가되었으나, 11월 중순 이후로 최저기온이 $-3.0^{\circ}C$ 이하로 떨어지기 시작하기 때문에 11월 중순 이후로 과실을 수확하는 것은 위험하였다.

Lespedeza속(屬)의 종자저장기간별(種子貯藏期間別) 발아시험(發芽試驗) (The Effect of Different Periods of Seed Storage on Germination of Genus Lespedeza)

  • 싸리류(類)의 종자저장기간별(種子貯藏期間別) 발아촉진처리별(發芽促進處理別) 발아율(發芽率)과 발아경과일수(發芽經過日數)를 조사(調査)하였든바 종자저장기간(種子貯藏期間) 40개월(個月)은 발아율(發芽率)이 30% 내외(內外)로 저조(低調)하였고 저장기간(貯藏期間) 28개월(個月)까지는 발아력(發芽力)에 큰 지장(支障)이 없었으며 발아촉진처리방법(發芽促進處理方法)으로는 80% 농류산(濃硫酸)에 3분처리(分處理) 및 과실중(果實中) 과피제거방법(果皮除去方法)이 가장 좋았다. 이들 처리(處理)가 타처리(他處理)에 비(比)하여 일주정도(一週程度) 빨리 발아율(發芽率)이 절정(絶頂)에 도달(到達)하였으며 종자저장기간(種子貯藏期間)이 단기(短期)인 것이 장기(長期)인 것에 비(比)하여 단시일내(短時日內)에 발아율(發芽率)이 절정(絶頂)에 도달(到達)하였다.

흑미 수확시기에 따른 이화학적 특성 및 항산화 활성 변화 (Changes in Physicochemical Properties and Antioxidant Activities according to Different Harvest Times in Black Rice (Oryza sativa L.))

  • 본 연구는 흑미 수확시기에 따른 종실의 이화학적 특성 및 항산화 활성 변이를 검토하였는데, 실험에 이용된 흑미 5개 품종(눈큰흑찰, 신농흑찰, 신토흑미, 조생흑찰, 흑진주)의 출수일로부터 각각 35, 40, 45, 50, 55일에 수확을 하여 출수 후 수확일수에 따른 특성을 비교한 결과, 무기성분(칼륨, 칼슘, 마그네슘)은 수확시기에 따른 유의성이 인정되지 않았다. 기능성 성분인 폴리페놀의 경우 흑진주를 제외하고 4개 품종에서 출수 후 35일 이후 시간이 지날수록 감소하는 경향이었고, 플라보노이드도 조생흑찰 및 흑진주를 제외하고 수확시기에 따라 함량이 감소하는 경향이었다. 수확시기와 안토시아닌 함량과의 관계를 분석한 결과 모든 품종이 부의 상관관계를 보였고, 흑진주벼를 제외하고는 $R^2$ 값이 0.8~0.9 정도로 유의성이 인정되었다. 항산화 활성 또한 흑진주 벼를 제외하고는 출수 후 35일경이 항산화 활성이 가장 높았고, 이후 점점 감소하는 경향이었다.

구기자나무의 재식밀도 및 예취높이가 가공용 잎 생산에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Planting Density and Cutting Height on Production of Leaves for Processing Raw Materials in Goji Berry)

  • Background: The leaves of the goji berry (Lycium chinense Mill.) are used as raw materials in processing and by replace fruits to some extent. The reason is that the leaves are cheaper, however, betaine content is higher than in the fruits. These experiments were conducted to determine the planting density and cutting height for producing a large number of leaves. Methods and Results: The cultivar 'Myeongan' with many branches was used. When the shoot height reached 50 cm - 70 cm, harvesting was possible four times a year. The time to next harvest was approximately 38 days after regeneration of new shoots. Leaf quantity was in the order of 1st > 2nd > 4th > 3rd harvest. Insect damage occurred during the third harvest in late July and early August, therefore, eco-friendly control was necessary. The total yield was higher at the planting density 60 cm × 30 cm than that of 60 cm × 20 cm or 60 cm × 40 cm. The yield at cutting for shoot height of 60 cm was increased by 6.3 percent compared to that of 50 cm, At the cutting height of 70 cm, harvest was difficult owing to hardening of stems and thorns. Betaine content, an indicator component of goji berry, was not significantly different according to planting densities and cutting height. Conclusions: The ideal cutting period to produce leaves of goji berry for processing is when the shoots grow to approximately 60 cm, and the leaves can be harvested 4 times a year. The dried-leaf yield was highest at the planting density of 60 cm × 30 cm.
