  • The consumer's feelings toward products is each evaluated and appears in different way that is to say there are various types of motives for deciding a purchase for example, there might be an interesting function and emotional reaction. How is the product image that induces motives like this metaphorized and evaluated to be existing in the mental image. This study inquired into, it by presenting problems conscious of both sides indicated above, the major points associated with image of the product, characteristic positions of product elements and evaluation of the product. To draw out a clear conclusion, first three hypotheses were established and case a study was performed as part of conclusive research for verification of this. The collected data was made, by simple tabulation to represent the overall flow, and based on this, concrete analysis was conducted on the three reserch items. The analysis method weighted on quantitative analysis with consideration to consumer's psychological aspect. As the result, three important conclusions could be drawn out or ratiocination for evaluation of mental image formation.

  • What is the semantic function of visual image in Contemporary art? This article proposes that representation is semantically still important in post-modernism as well as in modernism. The semantic function of representation has been changed by keeping pace with times. In modernism the 'outer representation' changed to 'inner representation', and in postmodernism the 'inner representation' changed to 'metaphorical representation'. The 'outer representation' means that image indicates a certain object or subject as the classical realism. In this case, the meaning of image is subordinate to an object, and a one-to-one correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'outer representation' is focused on an object but subject's intention, the indicative function of meaning is definite and singular. The 'inner representation' means that image exposes the fundamentals or process of an object. In this case, the meaning of image resolves itself into an absolute fundamental, and one-to-many correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'inner representation' is focused on essence and substance but an external form, the indicative function of meaning is inclusive and general. The 'metaphorical representation' means that image critically relates social constraint and condition as metaphor and allegory. In this case, the meaning of image is not subordinate to an object and a subject, and the image and the object indicate interactively. Because this 'metaphorical representation' is focused on interaction between subject, object, and interpreter, the indicative function of meaning is differant and ecological. This article focused on the representation because I believe that continuous thinking of totality can be opened by cognitive mapping, even though we never understand the world totally in the chaotic post modern age.

  • The overall trend of the contemporary society which is characterized by the variety and de-unification shows many that object to the language system of the structuralism. The typical characteristics of deconstruction in contemporary architecture and products are deconstruction of meanings, deconstructuralism of he form by the use of material, new material, deconstruction of metaphor and way of expression, deconstruction of proportion and deconstruction of ideas. The design elements of the deconstruction are re-defying the function, changing shapes, the structures, metaphors, dening of the golden proportions and the emphasizing the kitsch elements. From the various style, the kitsch style is a phenomenon that comes from the way of representing emotion, inspiration, understanding of the popularity, and the authority of consumers for choice.

  • The modern play is going through a change that is differentiating it from the plays of yesterday. The importance of narration through language, specifically that of words spoken on stage as a means of communication is being replaced by images and minimalism of words. The narration that depended on spoken words today depends more on the images that are conjured on stage. This movement shows also the very development of stage and its craft in the domain of theater and especially holds true in the avant-garde theaters of today. The avant-garde theater, in trying to duplicate the reality does not confine itself to oratory rhetorics that we see in the traditional plays of the past but expresses itself by mimicking the reality to the utmost possible.

  • A regression model with basin physiographic characteristics as independent variables was calibrated for regional flood frequency analysis. In case that high correlations existing among the independent variables the ridge regression has been known to have capability of overcoming the problems of multicollinearity. To optimize the ridge regression model the cost function including regularization parameter must be minimized. In this research the genetic algorithm was applied on this optimization problem. The genetic algorithm is a stochastic search method that mimic the metaphor of natural biological heredity. Using this method the regression model could have optimized and stable weights of variables.

  • The reason why rhetoric is important to a moving image is that a moving image communicates through non-verbal communication language. At first, rhetoric in a moving image functions to be persuasive in the story of a moving image. Second, rhetoric works to enhance an aesthetic value for a moving image. Thus we feel good when we are watching a moving image with well embeded rhetoric. On the other hand, we see extened rhetoric to enhance an imaginary because of a hollywood movie with visual effect and a digital movie. Visual images now formed using more signigier compared to signified for signification. Also we see that every signifier structured metaphorically to function as a sign. In this paper, 1 am going to explain the principles of rhetoric applied to a moving image so that we can better understand a signification on visual image.

  • This study examined how the meaning of news stories covering the split of national opinion was constructed in the media to represent social conflicts. To clarify the function of the term 'split of national opinion' as an ultimate term, this study examined the meaning of the term in the context of both text and society. Ten newspapers were included in the content analysis. The frequency of words used for the purpose of metaphor and equivalent in describing the split of national opinion was calculated to determine their meaning in the textual context. The frequency of incidents and subjects involved in allegedly causing the split of national opinion was calculated to determine their meaning in the social context. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the term 'split of national opinion' was coined by the newspapers as a metaphor of disease, disaster, and cost. The attitudes or the ways in which the split of national opinion was dealt with were generally negative and passive. Second, the term 'split of national opinion' was dealt with an equivalent status of such terms as national policy, national loss, societal problems, and ideology. Third, each newspaper reported that the split of national opinion had been caused by certain subjects, which indicates that each newspaper had its own position of viewing who was the key player in splitting the national opinion. The implication was also discussed that the use of the ultimate term would incur the unbalance of power between participants and the existing players, which would make individuals or groups who were involved in the social actions excluded and make the newspapers exercise the rhetorical power as news media.

  • It is commonly emphasized that the metaphor of the monster is a rhetoric universally used to identify the "main enemy" of a society, for its effective function is seen as useful for the uniting of citizens to bend together to survive or succeed before the external threat. The problem of this metaphor is that it homogenizes and dehumanizes the heterogeneous individual members of the subsequently identified enemy group. This study emphasizes the importance of some traits of the posthuman subject, such as the flexibility and the multiplicity of consciousness, to overcome the otherizing binary perspective which is commonly held regarding the concepts of good and evil. To observe specific dimensions of the posthuman consciousness, we analyze three films based on Spanish history and reality: The Spirit of the Beehive, The Day of the Beast and Pan's Labyrinth. All of these films progress around the figure of the enemy-monster(s), showing how to transgress the dichotomous structure of consciousness that defines the self/good dividing it from the other/evil. The heroes in the films seek to overcome the fear about the monster, and approach him to discover new ethical horizons, that can emerge only when an individual's consciousness chooses to stay on the border between the established beliefs and the unfamiliar voice of the dangerous stranger(s).
