  • 1. Objectives Recently there have been studied the trials to take out the characteristics of Sasangin's face. But there is not the report of the basis of Sasangin's face. So I want to exchange between Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) and others ; metrology, technology, psychology, ete. 2. Methods I searched documents of Lee Jae-ma and one's junior. I maid a comparative study of each Sasangin's face through them. And I counted each item to find out the major review point of Sasangin's face. 3. Results and Conclusions We found out Sasangin's face has their own characteristics; first impression, forehead, eyes, nose, ears, mouth, voice. And 'First Impression' is the major factor to check the review point of the face for the classification of sasangin through the 9 documents. In the future we have to prove the contents of these clinically. And we have to research the measurement of the face.

  • 1. Objectives: According to Sasang Constitutional Medicine, human beings are classified into four constitutions. Furthermore, medication and food should be taken differently based on the constitution because Sasang Constitutional Medicine is a field where all living things are perceived from a relative viewpoint instead of a standardized one. If so, what about the animals and its meat? This paper aims to identify the characteristics of the mics consumed, sonsially targeting pork and chicken as they are some of the most frequently enjoyed ones with the perception of the animals by the Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods: We examine the differences between pigs and chickens through the behavior and nature of them such as morphology, sound, body temperature, taste etc and support the observed differences with medical application. 3. Results: From the Sasang Constitutional Medicine's perceptive, pig is considered as Soeumche while chicken is belongs to Soyangche. Thus, pork is recommended for the SY type while chicken is preferable for the SE type. 4. Conclusions: In this paper, we are trying to suggest several categories for the evaluation of the constitution in animal, especially for pig and chicken. We hope that this is one of the framework for the understanding the animal with Sasang Constitutional Medicine's viewpoint. And also, it may useful to apply the basis what we have outlined in this paper for improving the method of raising livestock as well as the research of laboratory animals.

  • After a comparative study on between Shanghanlun(傷寒論) and Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) in Pathogenesis, I got a conclusion like this. Sa-sang consitutional medicine(四象醫學) changed the directions to the medicine in the center of personality from the medicine in the center of Shanghanlun(傷寒論)'s demonstration, devided the personality of people by the size of Organ system(臟腑) into 4types of Tae-eum, Yo-yang, Tae-yang, Yo-eum(太少陰陽), and explains all the course of physiology, pathology, diagnosis, therapy of the body on the point of constitutional view. Comparing the features of two medicines, Shanghanlun(傷寒論) and Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學), Shanghanlun(傷寒論) devided the diseases into the three type of eum-yang based on eight principal syndroms(八綱原理), in accordance with evidence of illness, pulse and studied the therapy, Shanghanlun(傷寒論) set up the basis of medicine which is based on overall of symptoms and signg(辨證論治醫學). Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) distinguished the image(象) which is devided by the size of inherited Organ system(臟腑), refered to the symptom of diseases(病症) and decided the therapic directions. So Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) gave more accuracy to the therapy by subdeviding the process of differenciation of case(辨證) into 2 steps of differenciation of image(辨象) and differenciation of case(辨證). In view of etiologic factor, Shanghanlun(傷寒論) regarded it as a invading of pathogenic factors(邪氣), so Shanghanlun(傷寒論) has the medical theory of pathogenic factors(邪氣). But Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) regarded it as a disorder of the genuine energy(正氣)'s movements(升降緩速), so Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) has the medical theory putting first of genuine energy(正氣). But Shanghanlun(傷寒論) also recognized the constitutional difference basically and Sa-sang consitutional medicine(四象醫學) devided the constitution into Tae-eum, Yo-yang, Tae-yang, Yo-eum(太少陰陽) and explained the food-air-fluid metabolism(飮食-氣液之氣病證) as cold-hot, cool-warm and devided the the symptom of diseases(病症) into the interior and the exterior(表裏) as the up-down, slow-fast movements of eum-yang and insufficiency and excessiveness is between them. In the end, Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) has the theory of eight principal syndroms(八綱原理) faithfully which is the theory of differenciation of case(辨證理論) of Shanghanlun(傷寒論). Therefore Shanghanlun(傷寒論) made a lot of influence on originating Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學), Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) is the theory which is based on existing medical theory including Shanghanlun(傷寒論) and composed the new medical theory to the constitutional point of view. Sa-sang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) enriched the medical theory and developed the clinical medicine so it has the historical value in the medicine.

  • The methodology of the Oriental philosophy is deductive and that of the of Occidental philosophy is inductive. Therefore study on the Oriental philosophy must start from right comprehension of fundamental premise before detailed analysis. The writer studied the meaning of the cosmology which forms the basis of Sa-sang constitutional philosophy and the propriety of visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution which forms the theoletiacal basis of Sa-sang constitutional medicine. The results are following ; 1. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma has the existent principle but don't have the side of the formative principie. 2. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma is not that searchs for the objective rule of nature but that centers around a human being by subjective understanding system. 3. The cosmology consists of four elements, that is mind(心), body(身), events(事), and nature(物). Among them mind and body means a human being, nature means the natural environment containing time and space, events means not that of nature but that of human being. 4. The mind and body as Yin-yang(陰陽) means the state which objects and self become one. 5. The mind as the Great-Absolute(太極) has the possibility of two interpretation, Firstly it means the state of the source of life which nature and human being become one, and secondly it means that the mind of a human being becomes the cosmos or the center of the cosmos. 6. In the visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution the position of heart, the Great-Absolute in center is immanent within four viscera and the function of it is that the undifferentiated unitary organic body, after it is diffrentiated still serves as the unitary organic whole by mutual connection, adjustment, unification and supervision. 7. The Great-Absolute in center is divided into the Great-Absolute of mind and that of body. And the Great-Absolute of body consists of the heart and the system of blood vessel, that of mind means the self-consciousness(自我).

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the inhibitory function among foods and herb drugs. I have gone over literatures of mainly ${\ll}$Eum-Sun-Jung-Yo(飮膳正要)${\gg}$ on the basis of ${\ll}$Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam (東醫寶鑑)${\gg}$ about the properties and flavors of foods and herb drugs. And then I came to get some conclusion as follows. 1. The foods mentioned above are meats, birds, fishes, spices and vegetables. 2. If the foods mentioned above were eaten for a long time, and then it can cause stirring Wind or Qi or Fire inside the body. 3. What it means in the context of the chapter ${\ulcorner}$Sik-Mul-Sang-Ban : Inhibitory Function Among Foods and Herb Drugs(食物相反)${\lrcorner}$ that 'Do not eat the paired foods or herb drugs at a same time' and 'Do not eat the paired foods or herb drugs together for a long time.' 4. The Cold natured foods were not eaten at a same time. 5. The Hot or Warm natured foods were not eaten at a same time. 6. The contrary natured foods were not eaten at a same time. Because they were eaten at a same time, it raise a Occurrence of Cold and Heat syndromes and a Qi disorder.

  • 1. Objective This research looks into the facial characteristics of Sasang constitution. 2. Methods It assigns and measures the length of nine areas of the face using a picture, and calculates the proportions and gives statistical data of these items. It also references the proportion of the items using the contents of "Sanghakjinjeon" ("相學眞傳") Ten face-types as a basis, divides the face into seven types, looks into the similarities between constitutions, and also compares it to clinically and frequently used constitutional facial characteristics. 3. Results and Conclusion After comparing the analytical items between Taeumins, Soyangins, and Soeumins, Soeumins had an oval face due to the fact that the length and width that their lower faces took up was small compared to the entire face. After dividing the facial characteristics of the test subjects using 十字相, there were significantly more Taeumins in Dong(同)_face-type, and Soeumins in Won(圓)_face-type. There weren't any significant group that Soyangins showed up in. After comparing these facial characteristics with that of previous facial characteristics found in books and used clinically, we were able to find corresponding items.

  • Introduction The case report provides pivotal basis for clinical research and education, however systematically organized guideline for reporting case report was not properly applied and it tackled the development of traditional medicine in Korea. The purpose of this study was to implement guideline for reporting CAse REport(CARE guideline) incorporating unique characteristics of Sasang medicine with the help of examples and explanations. Methods and Results The guideline for reporting CAse REport for Sasang medicine(CARES guideline) including diagnosis of traditional medicine and treatment with acupuncture and medical herbs was suggested, and practical examples explaining details of each CARES items were provided. Discussion and Conclusion This study would provide foundation for consensus-based and common CARE guideline for traditional Korean medicine. And, the CARES guideline would provide clinical platform for developing refined Sasang type differentiation technique using reported biopsychosocial and clinical type-specific features and realistic cases for Problem Based Learning courses as evidence-based education.

  • Although the theory of Sasang Consititution is widely used in oriental clinic, there is only conceptual definition about the constitution not technical definition which is consented by every experts. In the present, the effect and different responses of constitutional medicines is the most widely accepted criteria among technical definitions. However, these medicines consist of several herbs which are included specific constitution. So, it is hard to define the characters about the Sasang Constitution through analysis of the medicines. In this paper, we collected the various information about the constitutional herbs, and constructed database and web application for accessing this information. It is useful and can be basis for finding the characteristics of constitutional medicines.
