To interpret the relationship between movement of the Yangsan fault and tectonics around the Korean peninsula, the six sequential paleostresses were reconstructed from 1, 033 striated small faults which were measured at 37 outcrops along the strike of the Yangsan fault. And, the relationship between these paleostresses of the Yangsan fault and the tectonic events around the Korean peninsula were compared. As compared with the tectonic history around the Korean peninsula, the movement of the Yangsan fault is interpreted as follows; The initial feature of the Yangsan fault was formed with the development of extension fractures by the NW-SE extension. The fault experienced a right-lateral strike-slip movement continuously. The movements had been continued until the Late Miocene age, which was the most active period in faulting. The left-lateral strike-slip movement was followed by subsequent tectonic events. In the last stage, the fault acted with a slight extension or right-lateral movement.
Seventeen caprellid species are reported from adjacent waters, of the Goheung Peninsula, Jeollanam-do in June, 2008. Among them Paracaprella crassa Mayer, 1903 is newly added to the Korean fauna. We described this species with illustrations and mentioned some differences from the original description and subsequent redescriptions. As a result, Korean caprellid fauna consists of 34 species in 6 genera.

Seismicity of the Korean Peninsula shows intraplate seismicity that has irregular pattern in both time and space. Seismic data of the Korean peninsula consists of historical earthquakes and instrumental earthquakes. In this study we devide these data into complete part and incomplete part and considering earthquake size uncertainty estimate seismic hazard parameters - activity rate λ, b value of Gutenberg-Richter relation and maximum possible earthquake IMAX by statistical method in each major tectonic provinces. These estimated values are expected to be important input parameters in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and evaluation of design earthquake.

The Korean Peninsula is geographically located in the centre of Far Eastern Asia and has complex and various climate conditions following longitudinal topology, which would expect to be result in high diversity and endemism of millipede. In this study, the millipede fauna of the Korean Peninsula consists of 68 species plus 5 subspecies from 29 genera, 15 families and 7 orders. Of these species/subspecies, 29 and 12 are endemic in South Korea and North Korea, respectively; nine are recorded in both South Korea and North Korea. Each species has been provided comprehensive information including an original report, taxonomic changes, distribution, and remarks if necessary. Moreover, unsolved taxonomic uncertainty of some species included in this checklist should be investigated through further study.

The strong ground motion data recorded in the Sino-Korea Craton are analysed toobtain attenuation relations valid for 5 < M < 8, r < 400 km applicable to the Korean Peninsula. The result is logA : -1.83+0.386M- log${\gamma}$-0.0015${\gamma}$ where A is peak horizontal acceleration in g, M is surface-wave magnitude, and r is hypocentral distance in km. Our result is compared with the existing attenuation relations of Western North America and Eastern North America and the prior predictive equations for the Southern part of Korean Peninsula. Our result compares better with those of North America than those of the Southern part of the Korean Peninsula. More theoretical and empirical studies are required for better attenuation relations appropriate for the Korean Peninsula.

The drought is one of the extreme natural disasters observed in any climate zone and it is due to the deficiency in moisture. The flash drought is identified recently as a subdivision of drought and it is an extreme event distinguished by sudden onset and rapid intensification of drought conditions with severe impacts. The main cause for the flash drought is coupled situation due to precipitation deficit and high evapotranspiration. Hence, heat waves plays major role in identification of flash drought. Therefore, this study focused on identifying changes in distribution of heat waves for Korean Peninsula. The daily maximum and minimum temperature data were used in this study. The heat wave, heat wave intensity and heat wave intensity index were derived. The results of the study would be an input for the future studies on identification of flash drought in Korean Peninsula.
Korean Peninsula located between Japan and China where earthquakes frequently occur, have little geophysical observation despite its tectonic importance. This study suggests the inland conductive structures inferred from GDS data measured in Korean Peninsula and try to interpret induction arrows quantitatively with the aid of 2- and 3-D geomagnetic induction modeling. Ogcheon Belt (OCB) and Imjin River Belt (IRB) are regarded as main conductive structures in Korea Peninsula, the induction arrows for the period of 60 minutes show very weak anomaly due to sea effect, which is supported by the results of 3-modeling also. However, for the period of 10 minutes, induction arrows at YIN and ICHN show anomalous patterns considered as the effect of IRB in spite of sea effect. The results of 2-D modeling which simplify geological situations provide overall information on IRB
Blocking refers to a class of weather phenomena appearing in the mid and high latitudes, whose characteristics are blocked airflow of persistence. Frequently found over the Pacific and Atlantic regions of the Northern Hemisphere, blocking affects severe weather in the surrounding areas with different mechanisms depending on the type of blocking patterns. Along with lots of studies about persistent weather extremes focusing on the specific types of blocking, a new categorization using Rossby wave breaking has emerged. This study aims to apply this concept to the classification of blockings over the Pacific and examine how different wave breakings specify the associated cold weather in the Korean peninsula. At the same time, we investigate a strongly developing ridge around the Pacific by designing a new detection algorithm, where a reversal method is modified to distinguish ridge-type blocking patterns. As result, Kamchatka blocking (KB) and strong ridge over the Central Pacific are observed the most frequently during 20 years (2001~2020) of the studied period, and anomalous low pressures with cold air over the Korean Peninsula are accompanied by blocking events. When it considers the Rossby wave breaking, cyclonic wave-breaking is dominant in KB, which generates low-pressure anomalies over the Korean Peninsula. However, KB with anticyclone wave breaking appears with the high-pressure anomalies over the Korean Peninsula and it generates the warm temperature anomaly. Lastly, the low-pressure anomalies are also generated by the strong ridge over the Central Pacific, which persists for approximately three days and give a significant impact on cold surge on the Korean Peninsula.
The present study analyzes the characteristics of 43 typhoons that affected the Korean Peninsula between 2002 and 2015. The analysis was based on 3-second gust measurements, which is the maximum wind speed relevant for typhoon disaster prevention, using a typhoon disaster prevention model. And the distribution and characteristics of the 3-second gusts of four typhoons, RUSA, MAEMI, KOMPASU, and BOLAVEN that caused great damage, were also analyzed. The analysis show that between May and October during which typhoons affected the Korean Peninsula, the month with the highest frequency was August(13 times), followed by July and September with 12 occurrences each. Furthermore, the 3-second gust was strongest at 21.2 m/s in September, followed by 19.6 m/s in August. These results show that the Korean Peninsula was most frequently affected by typhoons in August and September, and the 3-second gusts were also the strongest during these two months. Typhoons MAEMI and KOMPASU showed distribution of strong 3-second gusts in the right area of the typhoon path, whereas typhoons RUSA and BOLAVEN showed strong 3-second gusts over the entire Korean Peninsula. Moreover, 3-second gusts amount of the ratio of 0.7 % in case of RUSA, 0.8 % at MAEMI, 3.3 % at KOMPASU, and 21.8 % at BOLAVEN showed as "very strong", based on the typhoon intensity classification criteria of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Based on the results of this study, a database was built with the frequencies of the monthly typhoons and 3-second gust data for all typhoons that affected the Korean Peninsula, which could be used as the basic data for developing a typhoon disaster prevention system.
In the present study, the time series of the number of days on which temperatures were not higher than $-5^{\circ}C$ in winter in Seoul was analyzed. The results showed a decreasing tendency until recently. Statistical change-point analysis was conducted to examine whether climate regime shifts existed in this time series. According to the results, the number of days on which temperatures were not higher than $-5^{\circ}C$ in winter in Seoul drastically decreased since 1988. Therefore, to find out the reason for the recent decrease in the number of days, differences between the means of large-scale environments in winder during 1988~2010 and those during 1974~1987 were analyzed. In all layers of the troposphere, anomalous anticyclones developed in regions around the Korean Peninsula and thus the Korean Peninsula was affected by westerlies or south-westerlies. This was associated with the recent a little further northward development of western North Pacific subtropical high. Therefore, environments good for warm and humid air to flow into the Korean Peninsula were formed. To examine whether relatively warm and humid air actually flowed into the Korean Peninsula recently, temperatures and specific humidity in all layers in the troposphere were analyzed and according to the results the Korean Peninsula showed warm and humid anomalies. In the analyses of sensible heat net flux and maximum temperatures at a height of 2 m that can be felt by humans, the East Asia Continent including the Korean Peninsula showed positive anomalies.
