  • The purpose of this study was to classify the body shapes. exclusive of size and corpulence factors of more than 60-year old elderly women by distinctions, and to investigate the visual effects of combination of ensemble suit details. For the body shape classification, the factor analysis and cluster analysis were performed : the mean value difference of numeral values for classified types were tested by ANOVA : and the follow-up test was conducted by the Duncan's multiple ranged test. The data analysis for visual effects evaluated by a multiple ranking test was analysed by mean. paired t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple ranged test. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The followings are the types of body shape according to the shape factors of the front line of body for elderly women. The distinctions of the front li e of elderly women's body could be presumed; that was, Body typeⅠ was a comparatively well-balanced body type, Body type Ⅱ was close to an average body type. and Body type In was a severely corpulent body type. 2. The followings are the results on the physical visual effects inducing the constituents of clothing type. 1) The neckline·collar types of a jacket have a great influence on the visual effects of the upper body, and orderly. the tailored collar. soutien collar, and round neckline had positive influence on the visual effects in the upper body. 2) The pleat types of one-piece dress had positive influence on the visual effects in the lower body in the order of gored type, pleats type, and gathered type. Also. the balance in the lower body had more influence on the overall balance of the clothing compared to the constituents of clothing type such as neckline collar type or opening line. 3) It showed that whether there is the front opening line of a jacket influenced on the visual effects of all categories.

  • The movements of the human body are difficult to capture owing to the complexity of the three-dimensional skeleton model and occlusion problems. In this paper, we propose a motion capture system that tracks dynamic human motions in real time. Without using external markers, the proposed system adopts multiple depth sensors (Microsoft Kinect) to overcome the occlusion and body rotation problems. To combine the joint data retrieved from the multiple sensors, our calibration process samples a point cloud from depth images and unifies the coordinate systems in point clouds into a single coordinate system via the iterative closest point method. Using noisy skeletal data from sensors, a posture reconstruction method is introduced to estimate the optimal joint positions for consistent motion generation. Based on the high tracking accuracy of the proposed system, we demonstrate that our system is applicable to various motion-based training programs in dance and Taekwondo.

  • This paper introduces a unified theory for the radiation problem of adjacent multiple floating bodies. The particular case of interest is the multiple slender bodies that their centerlines are parallel. The infinite-and finite-depth unified theories for the single-body problem are extended to solve each sub-problem of multiple bodies. The present method is valid for deep water and moderate water depth, and applicable for individually floating bodies as well as multimaran-type vehicles. For the validation of the present method, the heave and pitch hydrodynamic coefficients for two adjacent ships are compared with the results of a three-dimensional method, and an excellent agreement is shown. The application includes the hydrodynamic coefficients and motion RAOs of four trimarans which have different longitudinal and transverse arrangements for sidehulls.

  • Smartphones are fast growing in the IT market and are the most influential devices in our daily life. Smartphones are being studied for their use in body sensor networks with excellent processing power and wireless communication technology. In this paper, we propose a coordinator design that provides data collection, classification, and display using based on Android-smartphone in multiple sensor nodes. The coordinator collects data of sensor nodes that measure biological patterns using wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth and NFC. The coordinator constructs a network using a multiple-level scheduling algorithm for efficient data collection at multiple sensor nodes. Also, to support different protocols between heterogeneous sensors, a data sheet recording wireless communication protocol information is used. The designed coordinator used Arduino to test the performance of multiple sensor node environments.

  • Body gesture Recognition has been one of the interested research field for Human-Robot Interaction(HRI). Most of the conventional body gesture recognition algorithms used Hidden Markov Model(HMM) for modeling gestures which have spatio-temporal variabilities. However, HMM-based algorithms have difficulties excluding meaningless gestures. Besides, it is necessary for conventional body gesture recognition algorithms to perform gesture segmentation first, then sends the extracted gesture to the HMM for gesture recognition. This separated system causes time delay between two continuing gestures to be recognized, and it makes the system inappropriate for continuous gesture recognition. To overcome these two limitations, this paper suggests primitive body model encoding, which performs spatio/temporal quantization of motions from human body model and encodes them into predefined primitive codes for each link of a body model, and Selective/Asynchronous Input-Parallel State machine(SAI-PSM) for multiple-simultaneous gesture recognition. The experimental results showed that the proposed gesture recognition system using primitive body model encoding and SAI-PSM can exclude meaningless gestures well from the continuous body model data, while performing multiple-simultaneous gesture recognition without losing recognition rates compared to the previous HMM-based work.

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the prevalence and factors affecting body shape misperception among Korean adult women. Methods: We analyzed raw data from the fourth Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families, for 7,658 women over 20 years of age. For the multiple logistic regression model, the dependent variable was existence of misperception (yes/no). Results: The prevalence of body shape misperception was 42.6% (overestimation 6.5%, underestimation 36.1%). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that age, education level, marital status, economic status and BMI were significantly associated with body shape underestimation. Education level and BMI were significantly associated with body shape overestimation. Conclusion: An effective obesity intervention program for women must reflect and monitor body shape perception as well as BMI.

  • Pulmonary function test has been know to be greatly affected by body indices, such as sex, age, height, body weight, body surface area (BSA) and body mass index (BMI), so hat this study was focused to see the relationship between body index and flow-volume curves. Subjects were 156 (male 90, female 66) and they were examined for pulmonary function test in terms of body index and correlation/multiple regression analysis of flow-volume curves at Presbyterian Medical Center from March to August, 2009. The followings results after analyzing the correlation between body index and flow-volume curves. Although flow-volume curve FEF25-75% showed close correlation with age, body weight, and body surface area, but not with body mass index. In addition, multiple regression analysis was performed to see how each body index affects flow-volume curve FEF25-75%, and FEF25-75% dispersion was explained as 74.5% with age only, 94.2% with age and height, and 96% with age, height, and sex. Therefore, sex, age and height that are mainly used for predictive formular of pulmonary function test and nomogram were important factors for pulmonary function test itself, and further study must be done for other body index.
