  • This paper presents Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) as a tool to support the study of paintings and authentication. Manufacturing techniques of the artist are reviewed through the comparison between liberal perspectives and digital imaging techniques. In this study, RTI was applied to focus on the detailed textural information of eight paintings by Korean artist Lee Ji-ho. The RTI result visualizes shallow reliefs of brush strokes and different mediums on the surface technically enhanced through imaging filters, and these morphological textures on the surface act as a key factor in understanding the characteristics of the artist. The surface morphology and art criticism work as qualitative indicators to analyze the change of artistic techniques through time, and the usage of different mediums. The results of this study confirm that the RTI technique can be used as an analysis device in the study of paintings.

  • To identify optimized thermal properties of mold brassiere cup for improved thermal comfort during summer, we compared the thermal resistance and the water vapor permeability of Polyurethane (PU) foam, 3D spacer fabric and the two combined materials of the PU foam and the 3D spacer fabric. Four experimental mold brassieres were made of the materials for wearing test. Six women in their twenties evaluated the wearing sensation in the hot and humid environment. The changes in microclimate temperature and humidity while wearing test brassiere cups were measured. Results indicate that thermal resistance increased as more PU foam were combined, while the water vapor permeability was higher as the content of the 3D spacer fabric increased at thickness of 18mm and over. However, in the wear test, the PU foam brassiere was the most preferred in all ambient conditions due to its soft, flexible and smooth texture, despite its high thermal resistance and low water vapor permeability. This indicates that the textures of mold foams are more dominant properties than thermal properties for mold foams in determining the wear comfort of mold brassieres.

  • We investigated the effect of etching time on the surface roughness, and electrical and optical properties of ZnO and 2 wt% Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films. The ZnO and AZO films were deposited on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering technique. The etching experiment was carried out using a solution of 5% HCl at room temperature. The surface roughness was characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy. The electrical property was measured by Hall measurement system and 4-point probe. The optical property was characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy. After the wet chemical etching, the surface textures were obtained on the surface of the ZnO and AZO films. With the increase of etching time, the surface roughness (RMS) of the films increased and the transmittance of the films was observed to decrease. For the AZO film, a low resistivity of $1.0{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ was achieved even after the etching.

  • Magnesium alloys are drawing a lot of attention and have been extensively studied. The major obstacle to the practical application of the alloys is the poor formability at room temperature, originating basically from the insufficient number of slip system. Development of a proper texture is one promising solution to improve the formability. In the present work, after extrusion and full annealing, microstructures, texture developments and tensile properties of AZ31 Mg alloys are studied. After full annealing strong <1010>||ED fiber texture and weak <1120>+<1230>||ED fiber texture (c-axes in the radial direction) were developed. The textures are distinctly influencing the tensile properties, which can be understood in terms of the activation of basal slip modes. With the random orientation, which is developed in the $45^{\circ}$ sample to the extrusion direction, the better workability can be achieved at room temperature.

  • 3D printing technology enables the production of creative and personalized food products that meet consumer needs, such as an attractive visual appearance, fortification of specific nutrients, and modified textures. To popularize and diversify 3D-printed foods, an evaluation of the printing feasibility of various food pastes, including materials that cannot be printed natively, is necessary. Most animal resources, such as meat, milk, and eggs, are not inherently printable; therefore, the rheological properties governing printability should be improved through pre-/post-processing or adding appropriate additives. This review provides the latest progress in extrusion-based 3D printing of animal resource-based inks. In addition, this review discusses the effects of ink composition, printing conditions, and post-processing on the printing performance and characteristics of printed constructs. Further research is required to enhance the sensory quality and nutritional and textural properties of animal resource-based printed foods.

  • The principal objective of this fundamental research was to analyze the physicochemical changes and sensory properties of Dolsan leaf mustard pickles (DMP) for the development of low-salt pickles in order to contribute to the diversification of food. The DMPs were stored at −2℃ for 90 days, with salinity maintained at 1.63% to 1.85%. The pH was decreased during storage, and the acidity was gradually increased for up to 60 days of storage, after which it was increased rapidly to 1.10. The L-values (lightness) from the stems were decreased during storage. The a-values (greenness) were increased, while the b-values (yellowness) were decreased. It was shown that the DMP had a progressive browning phenomenon and the number of lactic acid bacteria gradually decreased. The sensory evaluation showed that crunchy textures were decreased and touch textures were increased at 30 days. Therefore, Dolsan leaf mustard is suitable as a material for low-salt pickles during storage for 90 days. The results of the analysis of the physicochemical and sensory properties indicate that the optimal storage for DMP was maintained for up to 30 days.

  • Excellent deep drawability and strain aging rsistance are obtained by the addition of alloying elements such as Ti and Nb which can form carbide and nitride easily into Al killed extra low carbon steel. Recrystallization textures and mechanical properties of the three different extra low carbon steels with B containing Nb only, Ti only, and both Nb and Ti, respectively, along with have been compared. Inverse pole figure shows that (100) and (111) texture intensities of Nb containing steel changed a lot during the annealing treatment and the degree of texture-structural change in the steel containing both Nb and Ti is about the same as that in the Ti-containing 5teel. After annealing the pole figure shows that the {Ill} < 110 > and {112} < 110> textures are the strongest in the cold rolled state and the annealed state, respectively. However, there is little difference in texture structure among the three kinds of steels. There is a tendency that the steel containing both Nb and Ti the grain size of which is the smallest is the highest in hardness. Nb-containing steel is the next and Ti -containing steel is the last in hardness.

  • The texture evolution during isothermal forging and subsequent heat treatment in Ti-48.5at%Al-0.6at%Mo alloy was investigated. Especially, in the present study, research interest was focused on the interrelation between lamellar volume fraction and textures varied with the change of heat-treated time and temperature. It was found that texture components having ND┴{302) and TD$\perp${100} with minor TD$\perp${111} were developed by isothermal forging. In addition, when the followed heat-treatment time and temperature increased from $1330^{\circ}C$/10h to $1350^{\circ}C$/20h respectively, both the lamellar volume fraction and the intensity of textures mentioned above also gradually increased. However, the tensile elongation at room temperature decreased oppositely, as the lamellar volume fraction increased. These results suggested that tensile properties of $\gamma$-TiAl with the nearly lamellar microstructure at room temperature were affected more strongly by the microstructural features such as lamellar volume fraction rather than by textures.

  • Optical diffuse reflectance sensing in visible and near-infrared wavelength ranges is one approach to rapidly quantify soil properties for site-specific management. The objectives of this study were to investigate effects of preprocessing of reflectance data and determine the accuracy of the reflectance approach for estimating physical and chemical properties of selected Missouri and Illinois, USA surface soils encompassing a wide range of soil types and textures. Diffuse reflectance spectra of air-dried, sieved samples were obtained in the laboratory. Calibrations relating spectra to soil properties determined by standard methods were developed using partial least squares (PLS) regression. The best data preprocessing, consisting of absorbance transformation and mean centering, reduced estimation errors by up to 20% compared to raw reflectance data. Good estimates ($R^2=0.83$ to 0.92) were obtained using spectral data for soil texture fractions, organic matter, and CEC. Estimates of pH, P, and K were not good ($R^2$ < 0.7), and other approaches to estimating these soil chemical properties should be investigated. Overall, the ability of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy to accurately estimate multiple soil properties across a wide range of soils makes it a good candidate technology for providing at least a portion of the data needed in site-specific management of agriculture.
