Current global textiles and fashion industries have gradually shifted focus to high value-added, high sensibility, and multi-functional products based on new human-friendliness and sustainable growth technologies. Textile design CAD systems have been developed in conjunction with computer hardware and software sector advances. This study compares the patterns or images of actual woven fabrics and virtual fabrics prepared with a textile design CAD system. In this study, several weave structures (such as fancy yarn weave and patterns) were prepared with a shuttle loom. The woven textile images were taken using a CCD camera. The same weave structure data and yarn data were fed into a textile design CAD system in order to simulate fabric images as similarly as possible. Similarity Index analysis methods allowed for an analysis of the index between the actual fabric specimen and the simulated image of the corresponding fabric. The results showed that repeated small pattern weaves provide superior similarity index values than those of a fancy yarn weave that indicate some irregularities due to fancy yarn attributes. A Complex Wavelet Structural Similarity(CW-SSIM) index resulted in a better index than other methods such as Multi-Scale(MS) SSIM, and Feature Similarity(FS) SSIM, across fabric specimen images. A correlation analysis of the similarity index based on an image analysis and a similarity evaluation by panel members was also implemented.
Shrink resist finishing of wool fabric was carried out with Monoethanol aminesulphite (MONAMIN BTN) shrink resist agent after chlorination with Dichloro isocyanuric acid (DCCA). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of treating conditions, such as concentrations of DCCA and MONAMIN BTN, pH of treating bath, dyeing times, curing times and temperatures, on dyeing property of wool fabrics. K/S values and fastness properties of dyed wool fabrics were measured. The K/S values of dyed fabrics were increased gradually with increasing concentration, and decreased with increasing curing time. The optimum dyeing time and curing temperature were 60 min and $140^{\circ}C$, respectively. Also it seems likely that the shrink resist finishing carried out at 3% (o.w.f.) of MONAMIN BTN and pH 7 of resin treating bath is effective in increasing K/S values. Light fastness of fabric dyed was very poor and the fastness of fabric dyed was not influenced by the treatment conditions.
This study investigated the physical properties of warm up yarns and their knitted fabrics including the dye affinity and color fastness to washing of these knitted fabrics according to the various dyeing times and temperatures on dyeing process. The results were summarized as follows. The tenacity of Nylon/PP warm-up yarn was 4g/d and breaking strain was 4.5%. The wet and dry thermal shrinkages were higher than those of PET warm-up yarn. The maximum heat flow rate(Qmax) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric was lower than that of PET warm-up knitted fabric and heat keeping rate(a) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric was higher as 47% than that of PET warm-up knitted fabric. It was shown that the shape retention and wearing comfort of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric were better than those of PET warm-up knitted fabric. The dye-affinity(K/S) of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric showed maximum value at the dyeing condition of 40minute or 50minute dyeing time with $80^{\circ}C$ dyeing temperature, but PET warm-up knitted fabric showed maximum value at the 30minute or 40minute with $110^{\circ}C$ dyeing temperature. Finally, the color fastness to washing of Nylon/PP warm-up knitted fabric showed good value as between 4 and 5 grade.
This study aimed to visually compare the implementation of digital virtual fabrics for stretch fabrics mainly used in clothing that closely touch the body, using CLO. A digital fabric was used in CLO after measuring the weight, thickness, bending, and tensile force of five adhering clothing fabrics using a CLO fabric kit. The visual similarity of draftability was compared by measuring the area of the bending angle and the shape of the wrinkles of the real and digital fabric. A comparison of the bending angles showed that Fabric A was -0.75° and Fabric D was -2.5°, showing slightly lower drape properties than the real fabric. Meanwhile, Fabric B was 2.75°, Fabric C was 2.13°, and Fabric E was 1.375°, showing slightly higher drape properties in the vertical direction than the real fabric. Comparing the widths of the drape shapes, Fabric A was 0.77%, Fabric B was 1.27%, Fabric C was 0.06%, and Fabric E was 1.48%, which showed a slight difference. Fabric D showed a difference of 3.17% and was implemented where the digital fabric spread a little wider. As a result, the stretch fabric was visually expressed similarly to the real fabric as a whole in CLO. For 3D virtual clothing technology to be used widely in the close clothing industry in the future, more research on real clothing is needed.
To develop an one-bath process for weight-reduction and mercerization of polyester/cotton fabric, concentrated NaOH solution was padded and steam-treated at high temperature. Following results which can be used commercially are obtained. (1) Steaming temperature of 110-12$0^{\circ}C$ is most efficient. (2) Optimum concentration of NaOH solution is 15-20%. (3) Most favorable weight-reduction is 20% in the aspect of fabric handle, and under this treating condition, dye exhaustion onto the mercerized cotton fiber is also increased to 40% or more. From above results, we believe that the economical and concurrent weight-reduction and mercerzation of polyester/cotton fabric can be realized. Moreover, with continuous treatment by pad-steam procedure, it is expected that this is, also, advantageous for the improvement of fabric quality and productivity.
In this study, the correlations of the two frictional testers have been investigated; one is the KES-FB4 system, the other is the Fabric-on-Fabric Frictional tester which was devised by authors. According to the results, the correlation between the frictional coefficients measured by the two testers has been shown highly as the load increased. But the effect of roughness of fabric surface was not dearly revealed in this study. The frictional characteristics of fabric woven from filament yarns were different with those of fabric woven from spun yarns. And, like the other materials, the effect of load on fabrics used in this experiment was related with the frictional force between two fabrics. The frictional behaviors, however, were obviously different with harder material because the frictional coefficients were not constant as the load increased.
The Cotton fabric was dyed with various directd dyes, and then treated with copper sulfate or copper sulfate/thiourea. Munsell color system, dye exhaustion, tensile strength, light fastness, washing fastness and rubbing fastness were investigated for the treated fabrics. The results obtaind are as follows: 1. The color variation of the cotton-dyed fabric by aftertreatment with copper sulfate was shown redish, but original color with copper sulfate/thiourea. 2. Copper sulfate/thiourea was much more effective than copper sulfate only to increase the light fastness, washing fastness and rubbing fastness. 3. Dye exhaustion of the cotton-dyed fabric by aftertreatment with copper sulfate was decreased about 20% more than those of untreated. 4. Tensile stregth of cotton-dyed fabric by aftertreatment with copper sulfate/thiourea was decrease about 10% more than those of untreated.
In this study, an automatic marking system for fabric inspection machines was developed. The main objectives of the study were to promote intelligence and automation for the inspection process, as well as to increase textile industrial productivity. Generally, when a worker manually inspects and marks a fabric, human error and reduced efficiency are unavoidable. To overcome these problems, we developed an automatic marking system that uses robots. This system incorporates a vision camera to automatically recognize defects, and an optical fiber sensor to detect the side of the fabric. To verify the performance, the control system sends a command directly to the robot to mark the fabric. Finally, the actual production confirmed that the proposed system could perform the desired motion.
Dyeing and color fastness properties of a reactive disperse dye containing an acetoxyethylsulphone group on PET, Nylon, silk and N/P fabrics were examined. The reactive disperse dye exhibited almost the same dyeing properties on PET fabric as a conventional disperse dye except the level of dye uptake. The most appropriate pH and dyeing temperature for the dyeing of Nylon fabric were 7 and $100^{\circ}C$ respectively. The build-up on Nylon fabric was good and various color fastnesses were good to excellent due to the formation of the covalent bond. Application of the reactive disperse dye on silk fabric at pH 9 and $80^{\circ}C$ yielded optimum color strength. The rate of dyeing on Nylon fabric was faster than that on PET fabric when both fabrics were dyed simultaneously in a dye bath, accordingly color strength of the dyed Nylon was higher. The reactive disperse dye can be applied for one-step and one-bath dyeing of N/P mixture fabric with good color fastness.
To develope a high value-added fiber products which is useful in the human body physiology, the Macban stone was deposited on the PET fabric by sputtering and its effects were investigated. Then, a Macban stone target was prepared for sputtering treatment and treated on the PET fabric by RF sputtering process. After treatment, surface observation by SEM, far-infrared emissivity and emissive power, the fastness to washing and light, bacteriostatic rate, electrostatic, drape stiffness, and breaking strength of PET fabric were investigated. From these investigation, the following conclusions were obtained. 1) The Macban stone was able to deposit on the PET fabric, by the RF sputtering treatment which is eco-friendly dry textile finishing. 2) The far-infrared emissivity and emissive power of sputtered PET fabrics were increased. 3) When PET fabric was treated by sputtering with Macban stone, the amount of deposited Macban stone increased with increasing treatment time and it was deposited on the fabric surface firmly. 4) The bacteriostatic rate of sputtered PET fabrics was about 20%. 5) The electrostatic charge of fiber surface was reduced by sputtering. 6) The fastness washing to light of dyed fabric were improved by the deposition of Macban stone, but the breaking strength was not changed by sputtering. 7) The drape stiffness of sputtered PET fabrics increased with increasing treatment time.
