In order to capture the fast crack propagation in an unmanipulated concrete fracture test, we employed mechanoluminascent(ML) material, which emits visible light when stressed, as a crack visualization tool. Three-point bending fracture test setup, a paint type ML material and a high speed camera were used to capture the images of fast moving cracks. The maximum size of coarse aggregates of concrete was used as an experimental parameter. The crack images, loading, and crack mouth opening displacement were successfully recorded as a function of time elapsed. From the test results, several interesting cracking behavior in the unmanipulated fracture test was observed in such that (1) the crack moves fast while the load is slowly decreased after the maximum loading, and (2) the crack in concrete with larger coarse aggregates moves faster than the others.
Studies of soil dynamic properties in Malaysia are still very limited. This study aims to investigate the dynamic properties of two selected tropical residual soils (i.e., Sandy Clay and Sandy Silt) and a sand mining trail (Silty Sand) in Peninsular Malaysia using 1g shaking table test. The use of 1g shaking table test for soil dynamic testing is often constrained to large strain level and small confining pressure only. Three new experimental setups, namely large laminar shear box test (LLSBT), small chamber test with positive air pressure (SCT), and small sample test with suction (SSTS) are attempted with the aims of these experimental setups are capable of evaluating the dynamic properties of soils covering a wider range of shear strain and confining pressure. The details of each experimental setup are described explicitly in this paper. Experimental results show that the combined use of the LLSBT and SCT is capable of rendering soil dynamic properties covering a strain range of 0.017%-1.48% under confining pressures of 5-100 kPa. The studied tropical residual soils in Malaysia behaved neither as pure sand nor clay, but show a relatively good agreement with the dynamic properties of residual soils in Singapore. Effects of confining pressure and plasticity index on the studied tropical residual soils are found to be insignificant in this particular study.

Background and Objectives: The speech-in-noise test is typically performed using an audiometer. The results of the digit-in-noise recognition (DIN) test may be influenced by the flat frequency response of free-field audiometry and frequency of the hearing aid fit based on fitting rationale. This study aims to investigate the DIN test in unaided and aided conditions. Subjects and Methods: Thirty four adults with moderate and severe sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) participated in the study. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for 50% of the DIN test was obtained in the following two conditions: 1) the unaided condition, performed using an audiometer in a free field; and 2) aided condition, performed using a hearing aid with an unvented individual earmold that was fitted based on NAL-NL2. Results: There was a statistically significant elevation in the mean SNR for the severe SNHL group in both test conditions when compared with that of the moderate SNHL group. In both groups, the SNR for the aided condition was significantly lower than that of the unaided condition. Conclusions: Speech recognition in hearing-impaired patients can be realized by fitting hearing aids based on evidence-based fitting rationale rather than by measuring it using free-field audiometry measurement that is utilized in a routine clinic setup.
In this study, improved test methods, which consider the real site test conditions, were suggested to measure for geosynthetics chemical resistance. For this purpose index and performance tests were done to specify and regulate the test method most approaching to the installation condition and accelerated model by Arrhenius equation was applied to interpretate the experimental data. Through the analysis and comparison of the overall experimental results, we could suggest the possibility and setup of the advanced chemical resistance test method for geosynthetics fitting to the field installation conditions.

Neutron imaging technique was used to investigate the water distribution and movement in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) at HANARO, KAERI. The Feasibility tests were performed in the first and second exposure rooms at the neutron radiography facility (NRF) at HANARO in order to check the ability of each exposure room, respectively. The feasibility test apparatus was composed of water and pressurized air before making up the actual test apparatus. Due to the low neutron intensity in the second exposure room, the exposure time was too long to investigate the transient phenomena of PEMFC. Although the exposure time was improved to 0.1 sec in the first exposure room, it was difficult to discriminate detail water movement at the channel due to the high noise level. Therefore, the experimental setup must be optimized according to the test conditions. Water discharge characteristics were investigated under different flow field geometries by using feasibility test apparatus and the neutron imaging technique. The water discharge characteristics of a 3-parallel serpentine are superior to those of a 1-parallel serpentine, but water at Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) was not removed, regardless of the flow field type.

In order to develop test and performance analysis techniques for a CRP propulsion, a CRP dynamometer which can be installed inside the model ship was designed and manufactured. The object ship was the 16000TEU container carrier, which has test results for the single propeller. The design concept of the present CRP is that forward & after propellers have the same power ratio and their RPM ratio is 0.75:1. To begin with, we checked the performance of the CRP dynamometer through the calibration and then installed it inside the model ship. After the model ship setup including the design CRP and the rudder in the Large Cavitation Tunnel(LCT), a series of model tests composed of power ratio check, propeller behind wake(PBW) test, cavitation observation and pressure fluctuation tests was conducted. Through the model test and data analysis for CRP, the experimental technique was established and the improved method for CRP design was suggested.

The pilot tests for the development of biaxial failure envelope of high strength concrete of reactor containments were performed. To apply biaxial loads to concrete, the plate specimens were used. The technical difficulties encountered on the development of a suitable biaxial test setup were discussed. To decide the optimum thickness of plate specimen, the nonlinear finite element analyses using ABAQUS were performed for a 1/8 model of cylindrical specimen(${\Phi}150{\times}300$) and four 1/4 models of plate Specimens ($200{\times}200{\times}T$(=30, 50, 60, 70)mm) under uniaxial compression. Analytical values and test data of relative strength ratio between those specimens with different geometric shapes were also compared. The various test data were obtained under uniaxial compression, uniaxial tension, and biaxial compression and then the stress-strain responses were plotted. The test data indicated that the strength of concrete under biaxial compression, $f_1/f_2=-1/-1$, is 15 percent larger than that under uniaxial compression and the poisson's ratio of concrete is 0.16. Teflon pads employed to eliminate friction between test specimen and loading platens showed an excellent effect under biaxial compression.

An integral test facility, PILLAR, was commissioned, aiming to provide valuable experimental results which can be referenced by system and component designers and used for the performance demonstration of liquid-metal-cooled, passive small modular reactors (SMRs) toward their licensing. The setup was conceptualized by a scaling analysis which allows the vertical arrangements to be conserved from its prototypic reactor, scaled uniformly in the radial direction achieving a flow area reduction of 1/200. Its final design includes several heater rods which simulate the reactor core, and a single heat exchanger representing the steam generators in the prototype. The system behaviors were characterized by its data acquisition system implementing various instruments. In this paper, we present not only a detailed description of the facility components, but also selected experimental results of both steady-state and transient cases. The obtained steady-state test results were utilized for the benchmark of a system code, achieving a capability of accurate simulations with ±3% of maximum deviations. It was followed by qualitative comparisons on the transient test results which indicate that the integral system behaviors in passive LBE-cooled systems are able to be predicted by the code.
A mesh node, a component of a mesh network, is connected with the network by dynamic routing using routing protocol and collects the information of adjacent or connected mesh nodes for its self-management and settings. Also, it relays packets between the mesh nodes and provides AP(Access Point) with its corresponding functions based on IEEE 802.11 a/b/g for clients' access to the network. In this paper, the study focused on the design and performance tests of Wireless Mesh Network(WMN) which is applied to the wireless communication network for the CBTC(Communications Based Train Control) system. The WMN was established on a K-AGT test-line (Kyeongsan city, Gyeongsangbuk-do), and to verify the applicability, its operation and performances are checked by measuring the data throughput, delay latency, quality measurements such as transmission loss, radio interference and path recovery and setup between the on-board and wayside.

This paper provides essential information on research completed with the aim to develop a 'dc motor test and analysis platform' which can be used to provide dc motor characteristics, calculate losses and efficiency, and also work as a dc motor speed controller. A user can test a given dc motor for these analyses by practicing different conventional methods, but, the concept discussed in this paper, reveals how intelligent integration of all these analyses can be done with a single user friendly automated setup. Integration has been accomplished by a technique that can accommodate all types of dc motors with different ratings at various loading conditions. However, experimentally measured results of a 0.5HP separately excited dc motor using the discussed scheme are presented in the paper. Also, a comparison of the methodology of this system with conventional techniques has also been elaborated on to show the effectiveness of the system.
