  • This paper presents experimental and characteristic analysis of hgh-$T_c$ eater-triggered witch using coated conductor (CC) in liquid and gas helium. The high temperature superconducting insert coil which can be installed in a low temperature superconducting (LTS) magnet has been proposed and researched to generate higher magnetic field for MR. Since CC could be an attractive option for HTS insert, it is important to research he characteristics of heater-triggered switch employing CC. We performed the heater test and constructed simulation model using finite element method (FEM.) We performed a protection test and observed normal zone propagation (NZP) signals to evaluate the witch with protection of magnet.

Design, Implementation and Testing of HF transformers for Satellite EPS Applications

  • The electric power subsystems (EPS) of most remote sensing satellites consist of a solar array as a source of energy, a storage battery, a power management and control (PMC) unit and a charge equalization unit (CEU) for the storage battery. The PMC and CEU use high frequency transformers in their power modules. This paper presents a design, implementation and testing results of a high frequency transformer for the EPS of satellite applications. Two approaches are used in the design process of the transformer based on the pre-determined transformer specifications. The transformer is designed based on an ETD 29 ferrite core. The implemented transformer consists of one center-tapped primary coil with eleven center-tapped secondary coils. The offline calculation results and measured values of R, L for transformer coils are convergence. A test circuit for measuring the transformer parameters like voltage, current and B-H hysteresis was implemented and applied. The test results confirm that the voltage waveforms of both primary and secondary coils were as desired. No overlapping occurred between the control signal and the transformer, which was not saturated during testing even during a short circuit test of the secondary channels. The dynamic B-H loop characteristics of the used transformer cores were measured. The sample test results are given in this paper.

  • The metering systems in LPG vaporizers have been frequently exposed to severe conditions and resulted in many problems such as gauge malfunctioning and rupturing if the check-floaters fail to stop liquid outflow when the heat supply for the vaporization of LPG is interrupted. Therefore, to analysis the vaporizer system we carried out the vaporizer performance test and float bulb test by newly devised test equipments. Consequently, we determined the specific gravity of the float bulb and reasonable operating temperature ranges for the LPG and heating waters.

Analysis on the Measured Natural Frequencies Due to the Structure-Exciter Interaction (구조물-가진기 상호작용에 의한 공진주파수 변동에 대한 해석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of the exciter attached for the measurement of natural frequencies when extracting the frequency response functions of the test structure in experimental modal analysis. The procedure is first to model the attached exciter as an additional degree of freedom system and next to verify the suggested model by experimentally extracting the natural frequencies of the test structure with various values of exciter mass, stinger stiffness and attachment position of the exciter on the test structure. It is concluded that as additional degree of freedom system which includes the natural frequency of the exciter itself and axial stiffness of stinger should be considered to quantatively define the coupling effects of structure-exciter interaction on the measured natural frequencies. It is not the mass of the exciter itself but the coupling effect of the additional degree of freedom mass-spring system consisting of exciter body and armature coil that characterizes the natural frequency deviation. Therefore, when the natural frequency of this additional mass-spring system is outside of the test frequency range, the coupling effect of structure-exciter interaction can be minimized.

  • This paper presents experimental data from model windings with different arrangement of coil in order to provide information to design a 22.9 kV class HTS transformer. Before experiment, the composite insulation of two different type of HTS transformers are investigated. The first basic of investigation is a breakdown characteristic of liquid nitrogen and flashover characteristic on the GFRP surface under ac and impulse, The second investigation is insulation design, manufacture and test of model windings. These include a AC withstand voltage test of 50 kV rms and a lighting impulse test of 150 kV at peak.

  • In this paper, an active vibration control system using a voice coil type linear oscillating actuator(LOA) is studied to suppress structural vibration. Being compared with a hydraulic actuator, a LOA has simplified structure and requires a few elements in the driving system, so it has lots of merits with respect to economics and maintenance. The general mathematical dynamic model to obtain the algorithm for the realization of vibration active control system is treated. Actually, the performance test of the control system using LOA is carried out on a steel test structure under sinusoidal and white noise excitation. From this test it is conformed that acceleration level of test structure is reduced near the resonance region. In the future research on the application to large structures will be studied.

  • The practical application of REBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes, vital for energy transmission (e.g., cable application) and high-field magnets (e.g., coil application), necessitates efficient and simple quality assessment procedures. This study introduces a systematic approach to assess the electromechanical properties of REBCO CC tapes under 77 K and self-field conditions. The approach involves customized tensile and bending tests that clarify the critical current (Ic) response of the CC tapes under mechanical loads induced by tension and bending. This study measures the retained Ic values of commercially available GdBCO CC tapes under 250 MPa tensile stress and 40 mm bending diameter. Through experimentation, the study demonstrates the resilience of these tapes and their suitability for applications. By presenting a simplified stress-based analysis and a bending test of the tapes, the study contributes to effective quality assessment methods for the development of practical superconducting products.

  • The objective of this study is to develop an embedded antenna structure with NFC and WPC composite functions. By selecting stable materials, the optimal component ratio of the polymer sheet was determined. The low cost embedded winding method compared to the existing FPCB was devised. During the winding process, characterization and process technology were developed. We also fabricated a ferrite mold to process the WPC grooves and developed the process technology for optimizing the WPC antenna. The following conclusions were obtained. (1) Optimum composition ratio was derived as Fe 87.5%, Si 7%, Al 5.5% and selected as the final material. (2) Optimal sheet conditions were derived from the experimental evaluation method and the experimental design method through the combination test of the optimized sheet and the conventional mass production FPCB. (3) According to coil diameter and inner diameter, Q value fluctuation, resistance value and efficiency fluctuation are obtained. Therefore, the most suitable coil condition is selected and Rx matching is performed. (4) The EMV load modulation test and the cognitive distance test of the polymer sheet and the ferrite sheet showed that the recognition distance of the polymer sheet at 1k and 4K was 32-33 mm and the recognition distance of the ferrite sheet at the same condition was 30-31 mm.

  • In this paper, we describe a DSP-based test apparatus for Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM). Using this apparatus, we can catch the mechanical and electrical characteristics of CEDM and obtain the information about the improvement of CEDM and the design of CEDM power controller. The test apparatus for CEDM introduced in this paper can input firing angles directly into gate drive circuits of thyristors so that this method can be used to derive the maximum and minimum values of firing angles within available limits for a 3-phase half-wave rectifier. Angle inputs help us understand each coil's response characteristics. Since this apparatus generates a serial sequence for CEDM insertion and withdrawal operations, we may judge whether CEDM works correctly as expected or not in each phase of a step movement.

Parameters Optimization of Impulse Generator Circuit for Generating First Short Stroke Lightning Current Waveform

  • This paper presents the parameters optimization technology for generating the first short stroke lightning current waveform($10/350{\mu}s$) which is necessary for the performance tests of components of lightning protection systems, as required under IEC 62305 and the newly amended IEC 62561. The circuit using the crowbar device specified in IEC 62305 was applied to generate the lightning current waveform. To find the proper parameters of the circuit is not easy because the circuit consists of two parts; circuit I, which relates to the front of current waveform, and circuit II, which relates to the tail. A simulation in PSpise was carried out to find main factors related to the front and tail of $10/350{\mu}s$. The lightning current generator was developed by utilizing the circuit parameters found in the simulation. In the result of experiments, new parameters of the circuits need to be changed because of the difference between the simulation and the experiment results. Using the iterative method, the optimized parameters of the circuits was determined. Also a multistage-type external coil and a damping resistor were proposed to make the efficiency of generation to enhance. According to the result in this paper, an optimized first short stroke lightning current waveform was obtained.
