A Study on the Improvement and Actual Conditions of Terrestrial Vegetation Part in Environmental Impact Statement (환경영향평가서의 육상물상 부분의 작성실태및 개선방향에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate actual conditions of terrestrial vegetation part in Environmental impact statement, and to prepare a proposal for the efficiency of Environmental Impact Assessment. 13 E.I.S.s made out during 1996.6-1997.5. have been chosen and analysed with respect to scope of survey, item of survey, method of survey, and result of survey. Actual conditioins of terrestrial vegetation part in E.I.S. are summarized as follows : 1. The mean number of total participants in drawing up E.I.S. is 26.0 persons, that of participants in terrestrial vegetation part is 2.3 persons. 2. In case of planar project, the mean of scope of survey is 16.1 times as large as area of project . In case of linear project, the scope of survey has been determined arbitrarily. 3. The most part of survey has been dependent on literature, and field survey has been practically neglected. 4. Results of survey mostly missed the point that E.I.A. pursues. And proposals are as follows : 1. Participants in terrestrial vegetation part in drawing up E.I.S should be increased. 2. It is necessary to subdivide scope of survey in view of difference between planar project and linear project. 3. As for item and method of survey, field survey should be specially reinforced. 4. Several sheets of map as results of survey should be included in E.I.S. The vegetation map, the D.G.N. map, and the planting map should be included and drawn by smaller scale as possible.

Land Subsidence Survey and Analysis Using the Terrestrial LIDAR in Jakarta Bay, Indonesia

  • Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia which has problems of land subsidence with the rates of about 1 to 15 cm/year, up to 20-25 cm/year. The study has examined the land subsidence in Pantai Mutiara, Jakarta Bay which is a reclaimed area by using the Terrestrial LIDAR survey technique. The Terrestrial LIDAR survey results show that the survey site has mean elevation of 0.24 m with the highest elevation of 0.93 m and lowest - 0.35 m. Considering that AHHW (approximate highest high water) is 0.51 m, many areas of the survey site are lying below the AHHW. Pantai Mutiara area is showing various subsidence rates depending on sites although the site is relatively narrow and small (about 1 $km^2$). There is elevation differences of almost 1m within the site. In this study, key information including topography, dike height distribution, and future coastal flooding risk of the survey area was able to be provided by Terrestrial LIDAR survey conducted only once. Especially, as the 3D precision topography effectively conveys important messages relating to vulnerability of the site, policy makers and stakeholders can easily understand the situation of the site.

Studies on Food Safety Knowledge of College Students according to Mass-Media Impact (대중매체 영향에 따른 일부 대학생의 식품안전 지식 조사)

  • This study was conducted to assess food safety knowledge of college students according to mass-media reports. To accomplish this, a survey was conducted to investigate the reliability, of primary mass-media sources on Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy(BSE) as well as the preferences of college students. The most common sources of media consumed by male and female students were terrestrial television(TV)(60%), the internet(21%), and newspapers(11%) and terrestrial TV(60%), newspapers (18%), and the internet(17%), respectively. The preferences for media of major and non-major students were terrestrial TV(64%), newspapers(17%), and the internet(14%) and terrestrial TV(51%), the internet(22%), and newspapers(19%), respectively. The reliability of media as viewed by male students were as follows: terrestrial TV(53%) and the internet(40%), whereas for female students, these values were terrestrial TV(55%) and the internet(37%). The reliability of media as viewed by major and non-major students was as follows: terrestrial TV(67%) and the internet(28%), and terrestrial TV(44%) and the internet(44%), respectively. In the case of male students, the primary sources for information regarding BSE were terrestrial TV(54%) and the internet(38%), whereas for female students, the primary sources were terrestrial TV(57%) and internet (37%). In the case of major students, the primary sources for information regarding BSE were terrestrial TV(52%) and the Internet(40%), and for non-major students, the internet(47%) and terrestrial TV(39%). Both male and female students were found to have less knowledge regarding prions, SRM(Specified Risk Materials), MM(methionine-methionine) type genes, and cow above 30 months associated with BSE compared to the other factors associated with this disease. The BSE-related knowledge held by major and non-major students was revealed unknown more than the majority of responses. Based on these results, greater effort should be made to provide meaningful information to improve the food-safety knowledge of college students according to mass-media.

Analysis of DMB Adoption Intentions According to Preferred Contents and Other Media Usage Characteristics (디지털 멀티미디어 방송의 선호 콘텐츠 및 타 매체 이용특성에 따른 의용의향 요인 분석)

  • Recently, DMB service markets experience a rapid change with terrestrial DMB test-broadcasting for the nation-wide coverage and paid interactive data broadcasting being offered utilizing TPEG and BIFS technologies. This warrants a reexamination of a consumers' adoption intentions for DMB service. This paper uses a survey data set to analyze DMB adoption intentions and the choice between terrestrial DMB and satellite DMB services according to preferred contents and other media usage characteristics. Empirical results show that consumer who prefer TV, music, and movie contents are more likely to adopt DMB service, whereas consumers with high intentions for HSDPA subscription are less likely to adopt DMB service. This implies that continuing development of killer application and the analysis of substitutes or complements of other media are crucial for the increase of DMB adoption intentions. It is found that the more consumers prefer sports, movies and entertainment/game and put higher values in the quality of the contents, the more likely they adopt satellite DMB service. Meanwhile, the more consumers prefer TV, drama and news contents, and are sensitive to the subscription fees, they are more likely to adopt terrestrial DMB service. Therefore, it seem that consumers' DMB adoption between terrestrial and satellite services is crucially related with types and characteristics of contents offered.

Comparative Accuracy of Terrestrial LiDAR and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for 3D Modeling of Cultural Properties (문화재 3차원 모델링을 위한 지상 LiDAR와 UAV 정확도 비교 연구)

  • A terrestrial LiDAR survey was conducted and unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) images were taken for target cultural properties to present the utilization measures of terrestrial LiDAR and UAV in three-dimensional modeling of cultural properties for the identification of the status and restoration of cultural properties. Then the accuracy of the point clouds generated through this process was compared, an overlap analysis of the 3D model was conducted, and a convergence model was created. According to the results, the modeling with terrestrial LiDAR is more appropriate for precise survey because 3D modeling for the detection of displacement and deformation of cultural properties requires an accuracy of mm units. And UAV model has limitation as the impossibility of detailed expression of parts with sharp unevenness such as cracks of bricks. However, it is found that the UAV model has a wide range of modeling and has the advantage of modeling of real cultural properties. Finally, the convergence model created in this study using the advantages of the terrestrial LiDAR model and the UAV model could be efficiently utilized for the basic data development of cultural properties.

A Catalogue of the Mollusks of Jeju Island, South Korea

  • This catalogue is the result of a four-year survey of the mollusks of Jeju Island, the southernmost island in the Republic of Korea. Forty-eight survey stations were visited, with a total of 82 specific localities being sampled. Literature records were also obtained. Local and world distribution of each species is included. This survey reports a total of 1,072 mollusk species and subspecies; 1,015 marine and 57 land and freshwater. There are 812 gastropods, of which 755 are either entirely marine or have marine affinities. The best represented of the marine families are the Pyramidellidae, Trochidae, and Ovulidae. There are 225 bivalves, none being freshwater species, with the Veneridae, Mytilidae, and Arcidae having the largest number of species. Among the smaller classes there are sixteen Cephalopoda, eleven Polyplacophora, and eight Scaphopoda. Compared to mainland Korea, Jeju Island has a rather small terrestrial mollusk fauna and a depauperate freshwater one, with mainly Palearctic connections. The Helixarionidae and Bradybaenidae are the largest terrestrial families. The marine faunal affinities with the neighboring Japonic and Indo-West Pacific provinces are also discussed, revealing that this island's mollusk fauna is a blend of warm-temperate and subtropical-tropical species.

Studies on the Food Safety-Related Informations of College Students (대학생의 식품 안전 관련 정보에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to assess the information of food safety by college students according to mass-media reports. Both male and female students were found to have less knowledge regarding prions, SRM, and MM type genes associated with BSE when compared to the other factors associated with this disease. In addition, the important determining factors for the food purchase of male and female students both were the orders of taste, hygiene, price. The preferences for meats and the beef-alternative meats of male and female students were the orders of pork, chicken. Based on these results, greater efforts should be made to provide meaningful information regarding the safe production and distribution of meats.

An Analysis on the Demand Characteristics of DMB Services (DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) 서비스의 수요특성 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the demand characteristics of DMB services using survey data. According to a Logit analysis, the willingness to adopt the services is higher if the would-be user is male, is better informed with the service, is watching TV longer, and is spending more for the telecommunications services. And the survey results tell us that for the stimulation of the service, efforts should be made to increase the level of public awareness of the services. The survey response from the would-be DMB users shows that the respondents who value the nationwide coverage and the numbers of channel are more inclined to use the satellite DMB service. On the other hand, the service charge and the availability of the terrestrial broadcasting channel for the time being does not seem to influence the intention of using the terrestrial DMB service. It could be interpreted that the potential user are deciding whether to use the service more by the quality and contents of the service rather than by the cost of the service.

Terrestrial LiDAR Measurements and Analysis of Topographical Changes on Malipo Beach (지상 LiDAR를 이용한 만리포 해변 정밀 지형측량 및 지형 변화 분석)

  • A terrestrial LiDAR was used to acquire precise and high-resolution topographical information of Malipo beach, Korea. Terrestrial LiDAR and RTK-DGPS (VRS) were mounted on top of a survey vehicle and used to scan 20 times stop-and-go method with 250 m spacing intervals at ebb tides. In total, 7 measurements were made periodically from 2008 to 2009 and after each beach replenishment event. We carried out GIS-based 3D spatial analysis such as slope and volume calculations in order to assess topographical changes over time. In relation to beach replenishment, comparative analysis of each volume change revealed them to be similar. This result indicates that the terrestrial LiDAR measurements are accurate and can be used to analyze temporal topographical changes. In conclusion, the methodology employed in this study can be used efficiently to exercise coastal management through monitoring and analyzing beach process such as erosion and deposition.

Tunnel Reverse Engineering Using Terrestrial LiDAR (지상LiDAR를 이용한 터널의 Reverse Engineering)

  • Surveying by using terrestrial LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) is more rapid than by using total station which enables tunnel section profile surveying to be done in suitable time and minimize centerline error, occurrence of overcut and undercut. Therefore, utilization of terrestrial LiDAR has increased more and more in section profile survey and measurement field Moreover, studies of terrestrial LiDAR for accurate and efficient utilization is now ongoing vigorously. Average end area formula, which was generally used to calculate overcut and undercut, was compared with existing methods such as total station survey and photogrammetry. However, there are no criteria of spacing distance for calculating overcut and undercut through terrestrial LiDAR surveying which can acquire 3D information of whole tunnel. This research performed reverse engineering to decide optimal spacing distance when surveying tunnel section profile by comparing whole tunnel volume and tunnel volume in difference spacing distance. This result was utilized to produce CAD drawing for the test tunnel site where there is no design drawings. In addition to this, efficiency of LiDAR and accuracy of CAD drawing was compared with targetless total station surveying of tunnel section profile. Finally, error analysis of target coordinate's accuracy and incidence angle was done in order to verify the accuracy of terrestrial LiDAR technology.
