Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions such as seismic loading are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to those mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique with a special experimental behavior under high strain rate loading condition In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of A15052-H32 under high strain rate tensile loading are determined using the SHPB technique.
Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to these mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique, a special experimental apparatus, can be used to obtain the material behavior under high strain rate loading condition. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of the aluminum alloys, Al2024-T4, Al6061-T6 and Al7075-T6, under high strain rate compressive and tensile loading are determined using SHPB technique.
The indirect tensile strengths (ITSs) of different cemented paste backfill mixes with different curing times were determined by considering crack initiation and fracture toughness concepts under different loading conditions of steel loading arcs with various contact angles, flat platens and the standard Brazilian test jaw. Because contact area of the ITS test discs developes rapidly and varies in accordance with the deformability, ITSs of curing materials were not found convenient to determine under the loading apparatus with indefinite contact angle. ITS values increasing with an increase in contact angle can be measured to be excessively high because of the high contact angles resulted from the deformable characteristics of the soft paste backfill materials. As a result of the change of deformation characteristics with the change of curing time, discs have different contact conditions causing an important disadvantage to reflect the strength change due to the curing reactions. In addition to the experimental study, finite element analyses were performed on several types of disc models under various loading conditions. As a result, a comparison between all loading conditions was made to determine the best ITSs of the cemented paste backfill materials. Both experimental and numerical analyses concluded that loading arcs with definite contact angles gives better results than those obtained with the other loading apparatus without a definite contact angle. Loading arcs with the contact angle of $15^{\circ}$ was found the most convenient loading apparatus for the typical cemented paste backfill materials, although it should be used carefully considering the failure cracks for a valid test.

Based upon the experimental data from multi-stage tensile loading at angles to the rolling direction of steel sheets, anisotropic hardening rules are proposed. Experiments show that orthotropic anisotropy is maintained and the orientations of orthotropy axes are changed during tensile loading. A phenomenological model is proposed which includes the rotations of orthotropy axes, work hardening and kinematic hardening. Using the model, uniaxial tensile stress, R-value and tensile necking strain are predicted and compared with the experimental data.
Reliable estimation of compressive as well as tensile in-situ stresses is critical in the design and analysis of underground structures and openings in rocks. Kaiser effect technique, which uses acoustic emission from rock specimens under cyclic load, is well established for the estimation of in-situ compressive stresses. This paper investigates the Kaiser effect on marble specimens under cyclic uniaxial compressive as well as cyclic uniaxial tensile conditions. The tensile behavior was studied by means of Brazilian tests. Each specimen was tested by applying the load in four loading cycles having magnitudes of 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the peak stress. The experimental results confirm the presence of Kaiser effect in marble specimens under both compressive and tensile loading conditions. Kaiser effect was found to be more dominant in the first two loading cycles and started disappearing as the applied stress approached the peak stress, where felicity effect became dominant instead. This behavior was observed to be consistent under both compressive and tensile loading conditions and can be applied for the estimation of in-situ rock stresses as a function of peak rock stress. At a micromechanical level, Kaiser effect is evident when the pre-existing stress is smaller than the crack damage stress and ambiguous when pre-existing stress exceeds the crack damage stress. Upon reaching the crack damage stress, the cracks begin to propagate and coalesce in an unstable manner. Hence acoustic emission observations through Kaiser effect analysis can help to estimate the crack damage stresses reliably thereby improving the efficiency of design parameters.

Fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior under cyclic biaxial loading has been investigated using thin-walled tubular specimen with a hole. Two types of biaxial loading system, i.e. cyclic tensile loading with super-imposed static torsional load and cyclic torsional loading with superimposed static tensile load, with various values of the biaxial loading ratio, $\tau$ s/ $\sigma$ max (or $\tau$ max/ $\sigma$s) were employed. Fatigue tests show that fatigue crack near the hole initiates and propagates at 900 and 450 direction to the longitudinal direction of the specimen under cyclic tensile and torsion loading with static biaxial stress, respectively, and the static biaxial stress doesn't have any great influence on fatigue crack initiation and growth direction. Stress analysis near the hole of the specimen shows that the crack around the hole initiates along the plane of maximum tangential stress range. Fatigue crack growth rates were evaluated as functions of equivalent stress intensity factor range, strain energy density factor range and crack tip opening displacement vector, respectively. It is shown that the biaxial mode fatigue crack growth rates can be relatively consistently predicted with these cyclic parameters.
This paper focuses on the mesh-size dependency in numerical simulations of reinforced concrete (RC) structures subjected to blast loading. A tensile failure criterion that can minimize the mesh-dependency of simulation results is introduced based on the fracture energy theory. In addition, conventional plasticity based damage models for concrete such as the CSC model and the HJC model, which are widely used for blast analyses of concrete structures, are compared with the orthotropic model that adopts the introduced tensile failure criterion in blast tests to verify the proposed criterion. The numerical predictions of the time-displacement relations at the mid-span of RC beams subjected to blast loading are compared with experimental results. The analytical results show that the numerical error according to the change in the finite element mesh size is substantially reduced and the accuracy of the numerical results is improved by applying a unique failure strain value determined by the proposed criterion.

Until now, we assumed in the time-dependent analysis of concrete structure that tensile creep has same characteristics as compressive creep has. But, in according to results of researches, it appears that tensile creep is different from compressive creep in quantity and in mechanics because tensile creep is affected significantly by micro cracking. The test results indicate that the creep behavior of concrete in compression and tension is rather different. The test data shows that the amount of creep under tensile loading is larger than that under compressive loading. In this paper, a realistic tensile creep model is suggested and incorporated in the formulation. In order to get more accurate results of time-dependent analysis. The present study indicates that the long-term deflection of concrete structures under realistic tensile creep model is somewhat larger than that under ordinary compressive creep model.

Evaluation of fatigue strength on the spot welded part is very important for strength design of spot welded steel structures. In this paper, we could get the life cycle of the spot welded part using the lethargy coefficient obtained through the quasi-static tensile shear test for the specimen welded by current 10kA. The reliability evaluation of the life cycle is completed by comparing the life cycle calculated under the constant loading rate with the life cycle obtained by dynamic fatigue test. And then the result calculated by the lethargy coefficient is verified through the lift cycle calculated using the dynamic final tensile stress formula under the increased loading speed. This way can make save the time and cost in processing of predicting the life cycle of a structure.
The purpose of this work is to investigate fatigue damage of quasi-isotropic laminates under tensile loading in different directions. Low cycle fatigue tests of $[0/-60/60]_s$ laminates and $[30/-30/90]_s$ laminates were carried out. Material systems used are AS4/Epoxy and AS4/PEEK. The fatigue damage of $[30/-30/90]_s$ is very different from that of $[0/-60/60]_s$. The experimental results are compared with the result obtained from the method for determining strain energy release rate components proposed by the authors. The analytical results were in good agreement with the experimental results. It is proved that the failure criterion based on the strain energy release rate is an appropriate approach to predict the initiation and growth of delaminations under cyclic loading.
