Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane is widely used for water treatment. However, the weak mechanical strength of PVDF limits its application. To enhance its tensile strength, a double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane, with PVDF and polyetherimide as the external and inner layers, respectively, was successfully prepared through phase inversion technique. The effects of additive content, air gap distance, N,N-dimethyl-acetamide content in the inner core liquid, and the temperature of external coagulation bath on the membrane structure, permeation flux, rejection, tensile strength, and porosity were determined. Experimental results showed that the optimum preparation conditions for the double-layer composite hollow fiber membrane were as follows: PEG-400 and PEG-600, 5 wt%; air gap distance, 10 cm; inner core liquid and the external coagulation bath should be water; and temperature of the external coagulation bath, 40 C. A single layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane (without PEI layer) was also prepared under optimum conditions. The double-layer composite membrane remarkably improved the tensile strength compared with the single-layer PVDF hollow fiber membrane. The permeation flux, rejection, and porosity were also slightly enhanced. High-tensile strength hollow fiber PVDF ultrafiltration membrane can be fabricated using the proposed technique.

This paper presents the tensile behavior of a Concrete-Filled Square Steel Tubular (CFT) column to H-beam welded connections. These connections were externally reinforced with T-shaped stiffeners at the junction of CFT column and beam. The tensile loading tests of eighteen tee-joint connections and finite element analysis using ANSYS were carried out. The main parameters of tests are as follows: 1) the thickness of Square Steel Tubular Column : 6 mm, 9 mm, 2) the strength ratios of tensile strength of horizontal stiffeners to tensile strength of beam flange : 70 %, 100 %, 150 %, 3) the strength ratios of shear strength of vertical stiffeners to tensile strength of beam flange : 80 %, 115 %, 160 %. The results of the tests demonstrate that overall behavior and failure modes of all the specimens are governed mainly by the horizontal stiffeners rather than the vertical stiffeners, and the vertical stiffener played only a role in transferring load introduced from beam to column.
The purpose of this study was to measure and compare tensile and shear strength for 4 types of new direct-bonding brackets and same brackets after recycling and to evaluate the change of bracket slot width after recycling. Four types of new direct-bond brackets were bonded to recently extracted human premolar teeth and the tensile and shear strength was measured by Universal Testing Machine. The brackets were recycled by chemical process and the tensile and shear test was repeated. To evaluate the change of the bracket slot width, slot width was measured by the Topcon Universal Measuring Microscope before and after recycling. Following results were obtained: 1. There was no satistically significant difference between the tensile and shear strength of recycled brackets and those of new brackets. 2. In both new and recycled brackets, the tensile and shear strength of perforated base bracket was lower than those of photoetched, foilmesh and contou-lok mesh base brackets. (P<0.01) 3. There was no statistically significant difference in bonding strengths of control group bonded only once and two times. 4. There was no statistically significant difference in the change of the bracket slow width after recycling process. 5. Of the failure, the combination type (58%) in the tensile strength and the tooth adhesive interface (65%) in the shear strength was the most common type.

The purpose of this study is to provide and evaluate the tensile properties of masonry element such as tensile strength, strain, modulus of elasticity and stress-strain relationship through the direct tension test with varies of mortar strength. From the experiment, the tension fracture was observed along the interfaces between the brick and the mortar. Tension properties of masonry element was significantly affected by compressive strength of mortar, $f_m$, indicating that higher tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of masonry element were obtained with increase of $f_m$. The strain of a masonry element was inversely proportional to $f_m$ due to the lower ductility of a higher mortar strength. A tensile stress-strain relationship of masonry element was generalized based on the numerical analysis and the regression analysis using test data. The proposed model shows fairly good agreement with the test measurements.
The mechanical and physical properties of wood are strongly dependent upon the slope of grain. Specially, tensile strength is more severely affected by the slope of grain. Therefore, tension tests were performed on small thin wood samples made from Pinus radiata with varying the slope of grain. Determining the tensile strength for clear thin wood samples the other variabilities associated with material, size, drying, defects, etc were discarded. Slope of grain was measured by the slope of grain indicator and actual slope of grain was also determined by a protractor. Correlation coefficients between machine measured and actual slope of grain for 40 pieces of 2×20 mm, 300 mm long Pinus radiata were 0.84 for wide face measurement. Results also showed that tensile strength and MOE from stress wave tests decreased with increasing the slope of grain. This study did not establish a relationships for tensile strength and MOE from stress wave with slope of grain. However, the trends of MOEs from stress wave test with both slope of grain are agreed well with Hankinson's equation. Predicted tension strength curve by Hankinson's equation was also agreed well with the experimental data over the range from 0 to 13 degrees for slope of grain.
Recently, 3D printing using a material extrusion method is used in various fields. Since plastic material has lower strength than steel, research to increase the strength is continuously being conducted. This study investigates the lattice structure for additive manufacturing of six 3D infill patterns (octet, quarter cubic, cubic, cubic subdivision, triangles and cross 3D) which consist of tetragons, hexagonal trusses, equilateral triangles and cross shapes. Consequently, in the tensile strength considering the weight and printing time, octet, quarter cubic, cubic and triangles patterns tended to increase linearly as the infill density increased, except for the infill density of 20%. However, the tensile strength/weight performed better than the infill density of 100% when the cubic subdivision pattern had the infill density of 20% and the cross 3D pattern had the infill density of 40%. Considering the weight and printing time, the infill patterns of high tensile strength were octet, quarter cubic, cubic, cubic subdivision, triangles and cross 3D order.
The effect of bonding condition on tensile properties of joints diffusion bonded spheroidal graphite cast iron, FCD60 to Cr-Mo steel, SCM 440 was investigated. Diffusion bonding was performed with various temperatures, holding times, pressures and atmospheres. All tensile specimens were fractured at the bonding interface. The tensile strength and elongation was increased with increasing bonding temperature. Especially, tensile strength of joints bonded at 1123K was higher than that of a raw material, FCD60, and tensile strength of joints bonded at 1173K was equal to that of a raw material, SCM440, but elongation of all joints was lower than those of raw materials. There was little the effect of holding time on the tensile properties. In comparison with bonding atmosphere, the difference of tensile strength was not observed, but elongation of joint bonded at vacuum(6.7mPa and 67mPa) was higher than that of Ar gas. Higher the degee of vacuum, elongation increased. Tensile properties of diffusion bonds depended on microstructures of cast iron at the interface and void ratio. Microstructures of cast iron at interface changed with temperature, because decarburizing and interdiffusion at the interface occurs and transformation of austenite-1 ferrite + graphite occurs on the cooling process. The void ratio decreased with increasing temperature, especially, effected on the elongation.

In this paper, for the testing of tensile strength of dead-end clamp used in transmission line, resulting values were estimated by designing and producing the horizontal version of widely-used vertical tensile tester. Tensile strength test of dead-end clamp for transmission line is essential for quality test of products. Moreover, tensile tester is an equipment that requires high level of reliability which needs to be examined through sampling tests commensurate with total inspection. Frames of tensile tester were made up of H-beams so that it can endure more than 20 [tons] of load capability and the test was implemented for 60[seconds] applying five types of tension. In consequence, the tester could withstand up to 21,600[kg] of weight as well as all types of tension. This newly developed horizontal tensile tester can be utilized in figuring out properties of various materials by estimating tensile strength of materials such as metal, rubber and fiber.
This paper is concerned with a fracture strength study of composite adhesive lap joints. The tests were carried out on specimen joints manufactured hybrid stacked composites such as the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of the work was to test the fracture strength using hybrid stacked composites with a polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. Tensile and peel strength of hybrid stacked composites are tested before appling adhesive bonding. From results, Natural fiber reinforced composites have lower tensile strength than the original polyester. and The load directional orientation and small amount and low thickness of bamboo natural fiber layer have a good effect on the tensile and peel strength of natural fiber reinforced composites. The failure strength of these materials applied adhesive bonding is also affected by fiber orientation and thickness of bamboo natural fiber layer. There for, Fiber orientation of bamboo natural fiber layer have a great effect on the tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites including adhesive bonded joints.

An advanced fiber sheet has been widely used for strengthening of the concrete structures due to its excellent properties such as high strength and light weight. Bond strength is very important in strengthening the concrete structures using an advanced fiber sheet. This research examines the bond behavior between fiber sheet and concrete, investigates the bond strength by the direct pull-out test and the tensile-shear test. To obtain the tensile-shear strength a double-face shear type bond test is conducted. The primary test variables are the types of concrete surface roughness (disk-grinding/chipping) and retrofitting methods (bonding/injection). Thirty specimens were tested to evaluate the bond strength. It is shown that the average bond strength between fiber sheet and concrete by the direct pull-out test and the tensile-shear test is $22.3{\sim}23.1kgf/cm^2$$17.92{\sim}19.75kgf/cm^2$, respectively.
