Temporal variation of nutrients and dissolved major and trace elements have been studied in the Yeongsan River, Korea. There were significant temporal fluctuations in the concentrations of these elements depending upon the flow condition. $NH_4$, $PO_4$, Na, Mg, Ca, K, Mn, Cu, Ni, Zn, Co, As and U concentrations were inversely related to the flow; that is, they are the highest at low flow and the lowest at high flow. It indicates that these elements are derived from point sources such as rock weathering and/or human activities and then diluted by increasing flow. Meanwhile, Fe and Si concentrations varied proportionally to the flow indicating that they are derived from diffuse sources including reactions within soil. The concentration-flow relationships showed that hydrology of the river is the most important factor controlling the chemical composition of the Yeongsan riverwater, which was compatible of the results of R-mode factor analysis.
A 4D-PTV system was constructed. The measurement system consists of three high-speed high-definition cameras(1k x 1k, 2000fps), Nd-Yag laser(2000Hz) and a host computer. The GA-3D-PTV algorithm was used for completing the measurement system. The 4D-PTV is capable of probing the spatial distribution of velocity vectors of the flow field overcoming the temporal resolution of the characteristic turbulence length scales of the measured flow fields. A horizontal impinged jet flow (H/D=7) was measured. The Reynolds number is about 33,000. Spatial temporal evolution of the jet flow was examined and physical properties such as spatial distributions of vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy were obtained with the constructed.

This paper reviewed the temporal changes in the public opinions on nuclear energy in Korea with a big data analysis of nuclear energy-related articles and their comments posted on the portal site NAVER. All articles that included at least one of "nuclear energy," "nuclear power plant (NPP)," "nuclear power phase-out," or "anti-nuclear" in their titles or main text were extracted from those posted on NAVER in January 2010-December 2019. First, we performed annual word frequency analysis to identify what words had appeared most frequently in the articles. For that period, the most frequent words were "NPP," "nuclear energy," and "energy." In addition, "safety" has remained in the upper ranks since the Fukushima NPP accident. Then, we performed sentiment analysis of the pre-processed articles. The sentiment analysis showed that positive-tone articles have been reported more frequently than negativetone over the entire analysis period. Last, we performed sentiment analysis of the comments on the articles to examine the public's intention regarding nuclear issues. The analysis showed that the number of negative comments to articles each month-irrespective of positive or negative tone-was always larger than that of positive comments over the entire analysis period.
In general, $CH_4$ concentrations generated in combustion facilities are known to be ppm units. In most cases, $CH_4$ samples are collected in Tedlar bags and transported to laboratories for analysis. Considering this fact, in the present study, an attempt was made to find out how long samples can be stored in cases where they are kept in bags and transported as a preliminary study for sampling. According to the results of the experiment using simulated gases (1 ppm, 5 ppm, 10 ppm) in Tedlar bag, $CH_4$ was safe up to 240 hr which is the full time. In the case of simulated gases are containing 4 kind gases ($N_2$, $CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$). Field samples (samples of obtained by collecting combustion facilities' exhaust gases) are known to contain highly reactive substances (for example NOx, SOx, and VOCs) and may affect each other. In the present study, one site sample was secured from each of a bituminous coal combustion facility and an LNG combustion facility and whether the concentrations of $CH_4$ gas would change over time (24 hr, 96 hr, 144 hr, 192 hr) was checked. Since site samples could not be analyzed on the day of collection, an experiment was started 24 hr after the time point of sampling to analyze the samples. As with the results of analysis of the simulated gas (240 hr), the results of analysis using the site sample indicated that it could be stored for the full study period 192 hr. Therefore, it was judged that if 192 hr would be taken after sampling before the sample would be analyzed, the concentration value should be reliable.
In this study, the $N_2O$, emitted from combustion facility, were analyzed by using simulated gas and field samples to find out how long samples can be stored in Tedlar bag. According to the results of the experiment using simulated gases (1 ppm, 5 ppm, 10 ppm) in Tedlar bag, After 144hr, $N_2O$ concentration of simulated gases changed that 1 ppm is 5.3%, 5 ppm is 12.8%, and 10ppm is 10.5%. The higher initial concentration of simulated gas was, the larger rate of $N_2O$ concentration was changed. In case of high concentration samples, it need to be careful when it was analyzed after 144 hr. Stability evaluation in Tedlar bag was carried out through field samples such as combustion facility of bituminous coal, B-C oil and LNG. The concentration rate of field samples, which is under 1 ppm of average initial concentration, was evaluated using statistical method. As a result, $N_2O$ concentrations were changed to field samples in the bag even when 96 hr had passed. And after sampling, it is necessary that sample analysis should be quickly as soon as possible.
Background: The radionuclides released by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident 9 years ago are still being monitored by various research teams and the Japanese government. Comparison of different surveys' results could help evaluate the exposure doses and the mechanism of radiocesium behavior in the urban environment in the area. In this study, we clarified the relationship between land use and temporal changes in the ambient dose rates (air dose rates) using big data. Materials and Methods: We set a series of 1 × 1 km2 meshes within the 80 km zone of the FDNPP to compare the different survey results. We then prepared an analysis dataset from all survey meshes to analyze the temporal change in the air dose rate. The selected meshes included data from all survey types (airborne, fixed point, backpack, and carborne) obtained through the all-time survey campaigns. Results and Discussion: The characteristics of each survey's results were then evaluated using this dataset, as they depended on the measurement object. The dataset analysis revealed that, for example, the results of the carborne survey were smaller than those of the other surveys because the field of view of the carborne survey was limited to paved roads. The location factor of different land uses was also evaluated considering the characteristics of the four survey methods. Nine years after the FDNPP accident, the location factor ranged from 0.26 to 0.49, while the half-life of the air dose rate ranged from 1.2 to 1.6. Conclusion: We found that the decreasing trend in the air dose rate of the FDNPP accident was similar to the results obtained after the Chernobyl accident. These parameters will be useful for the prediction of the future exposure dose at the post-accident.
Background: Residential areas have some factors on the external exposure of residents, who usually spend a long time in these areas. Although various survey has been carried out by the government or the research institutions after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, the mechanism of radiocesium inventory in the terrestrial zone has not been cleared. To better evaluate the radiation environment, this study investigated the temporal changes in air dose rate and 137Cs inventories (Bq/m2) in residential areas and agricultural fields. Materials and Methods: Air dose rate and 137Cs inventories were investigated in residential areas located in an evacuation zone at 5-8 km from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. From December 2014 to September 2018, the air dose rate distribution was investigated through a walking survey (backpack survey), which was conducted by operators carrying a γ-ray detector on their backs. Additionally, from December 2014 to January 2021, the 137Cs inventories on paved and permeable grounds were also measured using a portable γ-ray detector. Results and Discussion: In the areas where decontamination was not performed, the air dose rate decreased faster in residential areas than in agricultural fields. Moreover, the 137Cs inventory on paved surfaces decreased with time owing to the horizontal wash-off, while the 137Cs inventory on permeable surfaces decreased dramatically owing to the decontamination activities. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the horizontal wash-off of 137Cs on paved surfaces facilitated the air dose rate decrease in residential areas to a greater extent compared with agricultural fields, in which the air dose rate decreased because of the vertical migration of 137Cs. Results of this study can explain the faster environmental restoration in a residential environment reported by previous studies.
For the first time, two-dimensional temporal behavior of the edge localized mode (ELM) filament is measured in the edge tokamak plasma with a multi-channel electrical probe array (MCEP). MCEP, which has 16 floating probes (4 × 4), is mounted at the far scrape-off layer (SOL) region in the KSTAR. An electron temperature and an ion flux are measured by sideband method (SBM), which can achieve two-dimensional measurements with high time resolution. Furthermore, temporal evolutions of the electron temperature and the ion flux are obtained during the ELM occurrence. In the H-mode period, short spikes from ELM bursts are observed in measured plasma parameters, and the trend is similar to that of typical Hα signal. Interestingly, when blob-like ELM filaments crash the probe, the heat flux is significantly higher in a local region of the probe array. The results show that our probe array using the SBM can measure the ELM behavior and the plasma parameters without the effect of the stray current caused by the huge device. This study can provide valuable data needed to understand the interaction between the SOL plasma and the plasma facing components (PFCs).

In order to elucidate temporal variations of temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), suspended particulate matter (SPM), dissolved inorganic nutrients, and chlorophyll a, we performed 25-hour continuous monitoring in the Seomjin River Estuary in March (dry season) and July (rainy season) 2006. We also investigated spatial variations of marine environmental parameters across a saline gradient. In the Seomjin River Estuary, continuous monitoring results revealed that salinity variations were mainly affected by tidal cycle in the dry season and by river discharge in the rainy season. In the dry season, the spatio-temporal distribution of dissolved inorganic nutrient (nitrate, nitrite, and silicate) concentrations showed a good correlation with tidal cycle. While nutrient concentrations in rainy season showed not much variance in time. There were 6 and 4 times higher dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in the rainy season than those in the dry season, respectively. Silicate concentration was 43 times higher in the rainy season than that in the dry season. Chlorophyll a concentration was higher in the dry season than that in the rainy season showing high nutrient concentrations. The results of this study, spatio-temporal variations of marine environmental factors are determined by both tidal cycle and river discharge. It seems that chlorophyll a concentration is related to the river discharge than dissolved inorganic nutrient distribution.
In this study, temporal stability of 5 reduced sulfur compounds (RSCs) including ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, $CS_2$, and DMDS) was investigated up to 30 days. To learn the temporal changes in RSC concentration levels, two types of long-term storage experiment were carried out by employing two different approaches for sample storing in Tedlar bag samplers. The first one named as a forward (F) storage method consists of preparing all samples in the beginning of experiment. All these samples were analyzed sequentially through time. The second approach named as a reversed (R) storage method was carried out by preparing each sample through time and by analyzing all of them in the last day. For these experiments, RSC standards were prepared at 10 ppb in 10 L Tedlar bag. The results of both methods were consistent enough to show a tendency of the concentration reduction through time. Moreover, the lightest RSC, $H_2S$ showed the most significant reduction of 84.8% at the end of experiment. To validate difference between these results, t-test was applied to the data obtained between the two methods at 90% significance level. According to t-test, the results of the two approaches were greatly distinguished from 3 RSCs ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, and DMDS). The results also indicated that the temporal reduction of RSC differs greatly between light ($H_2S$ and $CH_3SH$) and heavy RSCs (DMS, DMDS, and $CS_2$). The former generally exhibited much significant reduction through time due probably to their lower stability.
