To transmit a video bit stream over low bandwith, such as mobile, channels, encoding algorithms for high bit rate like H.263+ are used. In transmitting video bit-streams, packet losses cause severe degradation in image quality. This paper proposes a new algorithm for the recovery of missing or erroneous motion vectors when H.263+ bit-stream is transmitted. Considering that the missing or erroneous motion vectors are closely related with those of neighboring blocks, this paper proposes a temporal-spatial error concealment algorithm. The proposed approach is that missing or erroneous Motion Vectors(MVs) are recovered by clustering the movements of neighboring blocks by their homogeneity. MVs of neighboring blocks we clustered according to ALA(Average Linkage Algorithm) clustering and a representative value for each cluster is determined to obtain the candidate MV set. By computing the distortion of the candidates, a MV with the minimum distortion is selected. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance in subjective and objective evaluation than existing methods.
The web search engines are exposed to the issue of uncertainty because of ambiguous queries, being input for retrieving the accurate results. Ambiguous queries constitute a significant fraction of such instances and pose real challenges to web search engines. Moreover, web search has created an interest for the researchers to deal with search by considering context in terms of location perspective. Our proposed disambiguation approach is designed to improve user experience by using context in terms of location relevance with the document relevance. The aim is that providing the user a comprehensive location perspective of a topic is informative than retrieving a result that only contains temporal or context information. The capacity to use this information in a location manner can be, from a user perspective, potentially useful for several tasks, including user query understanding or clustering based on location. In order to carry out the approach, we developed a Java based prototype to derive the contextual information from the web results based on the queries from the well-known datasets. Among those results, queries are further classified in order to perform search in a broad way. After the result provision to users and the selection made by them, feedback is recorded implicitly to improve the web search based on contextual information. The experiment results demonstrate the outstanding performance of our approach in terms of precision 75%, accuracy 73%; recall 81% and f-measure 78% when compared with generic temporal evaluation approach and furthermore achieved precision 86%, accuracy 71%; recall 67% and f-measure 75% when compared with web document clustering approach.

The load analysis for the distribution system and facilities has relied on measurement equipment. Moreover, load monitoring incurs huge costs in terms of installation and maintenance. This paper presents a new model to analyze wherein facilities load under a feeder every 15 minutes using meter reading data that can be obtained from a power consumer every 15 minute or a month even without setting up any measuring equipment. After the data warehouse is constructed by interfacing the legacy system required for the load calculation, the relationship between the distribution system and the power consumer is established. Once the load pattern is forecasted by applying clustering and classification algorithm of temporal data mining techniques for the power customer who is not involved in Automatic Meter Reading(AMR), a single-line diagram per feeder is created, and power flow calculation is executed. The calculation result is analyzed using various temporal and spatial analysis methods such as Internet Geographic Information System(GIS), single-line diagram, and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP).
This study examined the community structure and temporal variation of the macro-crustaceans on Jangbong tidal flat, Incheon, Korea. Macro-crustaceans on this tidal flat were collected using a modified otter trawl from November 1999 to January 2001. The macro-crustaceans comprised 32 species, 7,741 individuals, and 29,211.3 gWWt during the study period. The Jangbong tidal flat was dominated numerically by three shrimp (Palaemon carinicauda, Crangon affinis, and Metapenaeus joyneri) and two portunid crabs (Charybdis japonica and Portunus trituberculatus). The macro-crustacean assemblages were divided into two different season and species groups based on the q-mode and r-mode clustering methods. In terms of q-mode, they consisted of a winter species group from December through April and a summer species group from May through November. The r-mode analysis showed that the species group visiting the tidal flat in winter was dominated numerically by palaemonid and crangonid shrimps, while a species group characterized by an abundance of portunid crabs and penaeid shrimps was more frequent in spring, summer, and autumn. In conclusion, our study revealed distinct temporal variation in the tidal flat use by macro-crustaceans around Jangbong Island, Incheon, Korea.
This paper proposes a method of moving object detection in crowded scene using clustered trajectory. Unlike previous appearance based approaches, the proposed method employes motion information only to isolate moving objects. In the proposed method, feature points are extracted from input frames first and then feature tracking is followed to create feature trajectories. Based on an assumption that feature points originated from the same objects shows similar motion as the object moves, the proposed method detects moving objects by clustering trajectories of similar motions. For this purpose an energy function based on spatial proximity, motion coherence, and temporal continuity is defined to measure the similarity between two trajectories and the clustering is achieved by minimizing the energy function in CRFs (conditional random fields). Compared to previous methods, which are unable to separate falsely merged trajectories during the clustering process, the proposed method is able to rearrange the falsely merged trajectories during iteration because the clustering is solved my energy minimization in CRFs. Experiment results with three different crowded scenes show about 94% detection rate with 7% false alarm rate.

In the mobile service environment, patterns generated by temporal synchronization are streamed with different instance values. This paper proposed a variable clustering management method, which manages multiple data streaming dynamically, to support flexible clustering. The method manages synchronization effectively and differently with conventional streaming methods in data streaming environment and manages clustering streaming after the structural presentation level and the fitness presentation level. In the structural presentation level, the stream structure is presented using level matching and accumulation matching, and clustering management is carried out by the management of dynamic segment and static segment. The performance of the proposed method is tested by using k-means method, C/S server method, CDN method, and simulation. The test results showed that the proposed method has better performance than the other methods.

Recently, a bike-sharing system (BSS) has become popular as a convenient "last mile" transportation. Rebalancing of bikes is a critical issue to manage BSS because the rents and returns of bikes are not balanced by stations and periods. For efficient and effective rebalancing, accurate traffic prediction is important. Recently, cluster-based traffic prediction has been utilized to enhance the accuracy of prediction at the station-level and the clustering step is very important in this approach. In this paper, we propose a k-means based clustering algorithm that overcomes the drawbacks of the existing clustering methods for BSS; indeterministic and hardly converged. By employing the centroid initialization and using the temporal proportion of the rents and returns of stations as an input for clustering, the proposed algorithm can be deterministic and fast.

This paper proposes a robust and computationally efficient algorithm for automatic video object segmentation. For implementing the spatio-temporal segmentation, which aims for efficient combination of the motion segmentation and the color segmentation, an SOM-based hierarchical clustering method in which the segmentation process is regarded as clustering of feature vectors is employed. As results, problems of high computational complexity which required for obtaining exact segmentation results in conventional video object segmentation methods, and the performance degradation due to noise are significantly reduced. A measure of motion vector reliability which employs MRF-based MAP estimation scheme has been introduced to minimize the influence from the motion estimation error. In addition, a noise elimination scheme based on the motion reliability histogram and a clustering validity index for automatically identifying the number of objects in the scene have been applied. A cross projection method for effective object tracking and a dynamic memory to maintain temporal coherency have been introduced as well. A set of experiments has been conducted over several video sequences to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the efficiency in terms of computational complexity, robustness from noise, and higher segmentation accuracy of the proposed algorithm have been proved.
In transmitting compressed video bit-stream over Internet, packet loss causes error propagation in both spatial and temporal domain, which in turn leads to severe degradation in image qualify In this paper, a new approach for the recovery of lost or erroneous Motion Vector(MV)s by clustering the movements of neighboring blocks by their homogeneity is proposed. MVs of neighboring blocks are clustered according to ALA(Average Linkage Algorithm) clustering and a representative value for each cluster is determined to obtain the candidate MV set. By computing the distortion of the candidates, a MV with the minimum distortion is selected. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance in many cases than existing methods.
Biologists are attempting to group genes based on the temporal pattern of gene expression levels. So far, a number of methods have been proposed for clustering microarray data. However, the results of clustering depends on the genes selection, therefore the gene selection with significant expression difference is also very important to cluster for microarray data. Thus, this paper present the results of broad comparative studies to time course microarray data by considering methods of gene selection, clustering and cluster validation.
