The Effect of Swirl Intensity on Flow and Combustion Characteristics of Flat Flame Burner (선회도가 평면화염버너의 유동과 연소 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the flow and combustion characteristics of flat flame burner with twirler were investigated. There are several factors that define the characteristics of burner. Among them, the experiments was focused on swirl effect by four types of twirler in terms of flow structure, distribution of temperature and emission characteristics. In PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) experiment, the less of swirl number, axial flow is dominant at the center. As swirl number increases, the flow develops along the burner tile and backward flow becomes stronger at center. From the combustion characteristics, as long as combustion load increases, blow-off limit was improved. But at the higher swirl number, the limit is decreased. At swirl number 0, the temperature is shown typical distribution of long flame burner. but swirl number increases, the temperature distribution is uniform in front of round tile. Therefore, the temperature distribution is coincided with flow structure. As excess air ratio increases, NO concentrations are high. But high swirl number gives rise to become low NO concentrations. The flame characteristics are comprised in wrinkled laminar-flame regime according to turbulence Reynolds number(Rel) and Damkohler number(Da).

An Experimental Study on the Temperature Distribution in IRWST

  • The In-Containment Refueling Water Storage Tank (IRWST), one of the design improvements applied to the APR -1400, has a function to condense the high enthalpy fluid discharged from the Reactor Coolant System (RCS). The condensation of discharged fluid by the tank water drives the tank temperature high and causes oscillatory condensation. Also if the tank cooling water temperature approaches the saturated state, the steam bubble may escape from the water uncondensed. These oscillatory condensation and bubble escape would burden the undue load to the tank structure, pressurize the tank, and degrade its intended function. For these reasons simple analytical modeling and experimental works were performed in order to predict exact tank temperature distribution and to find the effective cooling method to keep the tank temperature below the bubble escape limit (93.3$^{\circ}C$), which was experimentally proven by other researchers. Both the analytical model and experimental results show that the temperature distributions are horizontally stratified. Particularly, the hot liquid produced by the condensation around the sparger holes goes up straight like a thermal plume. Also, the momentum of the discharged fluid is not so strong to interrupt this horizontal thermal stratification significantly. Therefore the layout and shape of sparger is not so important as long as the location of the sparger hole is sufficiently close to the bottom of the tank. Finally, for the effective tank cooling it is recommended that the locations of the discharge and intake lines of the cooling system be cautiously selected considering the temperature distribution, the water level change, and the cooling effectiveness.

Effect of Low-Temperature Conditions on Expansion of Choux (슈의 팽화에 대한 저온 조건의 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of low temperature conditions on the expansion of choux when mixing the dough with egg fluid. The egg fluid was tested at 5 and $17^{\circ}C$, and the dough temperature was 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 or $70^{\circ}C$. The expansion decreased with decreasing temperature of the egg fluid and dough, with the concomitant formation of membranes in the cavities of choux because of the poor emulsion stability of the choux paste. In addition, the structure of the choux pastry was not dense and the cracks in the surface were partial and narrow. The shape, expansion and cracks of choux were the best at a dough temperature of 60 and $70^{\circ}C$ added with egg fluid at $17^{\circ}C$. The temperature of the choux paste in these two samples was higher than the melting point of the butter used to produce the paste. Therefore, the practical limit temperature when mixing the egg fluid and dough is 20 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively, and care should ve taken to maintain a low temperature when making choux in confectionary.

Evaluation of Formability of Copper Alloy for Regenerative Cooling Chamber before and after Heat Treatment (재생냉각 챔버 제작용 구리합금의 열처리 전후 성형성 평가)

  • Dome stretching tests and tension tests were performed to evaluate the formability of a copper alloy used for manufacturing the regenerative cooling chamber. The test specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of heat treatment and direction of specimens on the formability. The test results show that forming limit values are increased by the heat treatment of the material but the variation of the forming limit values by manufacturing direction is negligible compared to the heat treatment effect, and forming limit values are also different according to the test methods. These results indicate that the high temperature heat treatment of the material before bulging is a very important process to deform the inner cylindrical structure of the regenerative cooling chamber into a nozzle shape by the bulging process without necking or fracture and the test methods also have a great effect on a evaluation of the formability. The forming limit diagram obtained in this study would be utilized to the design of regenerative cooling chamber nozzles.

Study on Ignition Characteristics Relating to Igniter Penetration Depth in a Model Sector Combustor (모델 섹터 연소기의 점화기 깊이에 따른 점화특성 연구)

  • Aero gas turbine engines must demonstrate their ability to be ignited on ground conditions or relighted in flight. The electric spark ignition is usually used in current aero gas turbine engines. Experiments on ignition characteristics relating to spark igniter penetration depth under atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions were conducted on the model combustor which is scaled in 1/18. Exciter was operated during 2 seconds, and successful ignition phenomena were confirmed by the pressure rising sharply in combustor. In addition, instantaneous ignition images were captured by a high-speed camera. It showed kernel propagation and successful ignition events in the sector model combustor. Ignition test results showed that ignition limit with increase in penetration depth of the igniter plug was wider. When the penetration depth of the igniter plug increased under the same fuel injection pressure condition, successful ignition events were obtained in higher differential pressure conditions between inlet and outlet of the combustor. The results demonstrate that the ratio of the combustible mixture, which is exposed to the high temperature environment around the igniter plug tip, increases. Thereby affect the combustor ignition performance.

  • Warm, forming technique which is one of the new forming technologies to improve formability of sheet metal is applied to the cylindrical cup drawing of stainless-aluminum. clad sheets. In experiments the temperature of die and blank holder is varied from room temperature to 18$0^{\circ}C$, while the punch is cooled by circulation of coolant to increase the fracture strength of workpiece on the punch corner area. Test materials chosen for experiments are STS304-A1050-STS304, STS304-A1050-STS430 clad sheets and A1050-0 aluminum sheet. Teflon film as a lubricant is used on both sides of a workpiece. The limit drawing ratio as well as quality of drawn cups(distribution of thickness and hardness)are investigated and validity of warm drawing process is also discussed.

  • Lean premixed combustion is a well known method for low $NO_x$ gas turbine combustor. But lean combustion is usually accompanied by flame instability. To overcome this problem, the hydrogen ($H_2$) was added to main fuel methane to increase flammable limit. In this paper, the effects of hydrogen addition on lean premixed combustion of methane ($CH_4$) were investigated numerically. Results showed that the extinction stretch rate increases and the extinction temperature constant with relatively small amount of $H_2$ addition. The flame temperature and NO emission increase with $H_2$ addition at the same stretch rate and equivalence ratio but it could increase the range of lean extinction and extinction equivalence ratio limit. Eventually, the $H_2$ addition case showed almost same or lower NO emission than no addictive $CH_4$ case in the extinction condition.

  • This paper discusses the thermodynamic study on the suction cooling-steam injected gas turbine cycle. The aim of this study is to improve the thermal efficiency and the specific output by steam injection produced by the waste heat from the waste heat recovery boiler and by cooling compressor inlet air by an ammonia absorption-type suction cooling system. The operating region of this newly devised cycle depends upon the pinch point limit and the outlet temperature of refrigerator. The higher steam injection ratio and the lower the evaporating temperature of refrigerant allow the higher thermal efficiency and the specific output. The optimum pressure ratios and the steam injection ratios for the maximum thermal efficiency and the specific output can be found. It is evident that this cycle considered as one of the most effective methods which can obtain the higher thermal efficiency and the specific output comparing with the conventional simple cycle and steam injected gas turbine cycle.

A study on the explosion properties and Autoignition Temperature of a food additive Dusts (식품분진의 폭발 특성과 발화온도에 관한 연구)

  • A study for the dangerous properties measurment of dust explosion was attended by the various dust concentration on Anthraquinone, Sodiumbenzoic acid, Corn starch, soy sauce powder, and cheese powder. As the result, maximum explosion pressure, the maximum rate of pressure rise, autoigntion temperature, and the water content of dust on lower limit explosion concentration was obtained as follows 1. The lower limit explosion concentration on soy sauce powder with the humidity of 65 to 90% increased by increasing the con tent of moisture, and the effect of dry air and moisture air decreased better in make of dry air. 2. The effect of a various dust concentration on autoigntion temperatures is investigated, If the vessel of dust explosion is small size and the easiness of autoignition was controled by air within the vessel, because it was better decreased air with increasing of dust concentration 3. The maximum explosion pressures of Anthraguinone, sodiumbenzoic acid, com starch, soy sauce powder, and cheese powder were 1.0g/$\ell$, 1.0g/$\ell$, 1.5g/$\ell$, 1.5g/$\ell$, and 1.5g/$\ell$, respectively, and the maximum rate of pressure rise were 0.5g/$\ell$, 0.5g/$\ell$, 1.0g/$\ell$, 1.0g/$\ell$, and 1.0g/$\ell$, respectively.
