  • A low temperature plasma carburizing process was performed to AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel to achieve the enhancement of surface hardness without a compromise in their corrosion resistance. Attempts were made to investigate the influence of the processing temperatures on the surface-hardened layer during low temperature plasma carburizng in order to obtain the optimum processing conditions. The expanded austenite (${\gamma}C$) was formed on all the treated surfaces. Precipitates of chromium carbides were detected in the hardened layer (C-enriched layer) only for the specimen treated at $500^{\circ}C$. The hardened layer thickness of ${\gamma}C$ increased up to about $35\;{\mu}m$, with increasing treatment temperature. The surface hardness reached about 1000 $HK_{0.05}$, which is about 4 times higher than that of the untreated sample (250 $HK_{0.05}$). Minor loss in corrosion resistance was observed for the specimens treated at temperatures of $310^{\circ}C-450^{\circ}C$ compared with untreated austenitic stainless steel. Particularly, the precipitation of chromium carbides at $500^{\circ}C$ led to a significant decrease in the corrosion resistance.

  • Activated carbon spheres (ACS) were prepared at different heating rates by carbonization of the resole-type phenolic beads (PB) at $950^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere followed by activation of the resultant char at different temperatures for 5 h in $CO_2$ atmosphere. Influence of heating rate on porosity and temperature on carbon structure and porosity of ACS were investigated. Effect of heating rate and temperature on porosity of ACS was also studied from adsorption isotherms of nitrogen at 77 K using BET method. The results revealed that ACS have exhibited a BET surface area and pore volume greater than $2260\;m^2/g$ and $1.63\;cm^3/g$ respectively. The structural characteristics variation of ACS with different temperature was studied using Raman spectroscopy. The results exhibited that amount of disorganized carbon affects both the pore structure and adsorption properties of ACS. ACS were also evaluated for structural information using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy. ACS were evaluated for chemical composition using CHNS analysis. The ACS prepared different temperatures became more carbonaceous material compared to carbonized material. ACS have possessed well-developed pores structure which were verified by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). SEM micrographs also exhibited that ACS have possessed well-developed micro- and meso-pores structure and the pore size of ACS increased with increasing activation temperature.

  • We have investigated the influence of rapid thermal annealing (RTA) temperature on properties of Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) thin films deposited on glass substrate by using radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. The RTA is performed in a nitrogen ambient in the temperature range from 300 to $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 minute in a rapid thermal annealer after growing the AZO thin films. The crystallographic structure and the surface morphology of AZO thin film are measured by using X-ray diffraction, and atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The optical transmittance of the deposited thin films is examined in the wavelength range of 300-1100 nm, where the average transmittance is above the 90% in the visible and near-infrared regions. The optical bandgap is calculated from the Tauc's model, and it shows a significant dependence on the RTA temperature. As for the electrical properties of the thin films, the AZO thin film annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ shows the lowest electrical resistivity of $8.6{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$ and the Hall mobility of $11.3cm^2$/V-sec. These results suggest that the RTA temperature is an important parameter to influence on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of AZO thin films.

  • Tensile and low cycle fatigue tests on prior cold worked 3l6L stainless steel were carried out at various temperatures ftom room temperature to 650$^{\circ}C$. Fatigue resistance was decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing strain rate. Cyclic plastic deformation, creep, oxidation and interactions with each other are thought to be responsible for the reduction in fatigue resistance. Currently favored life prediction models were examined and it was found that it is important to select a proper life prediction parameter since stress-strain relation strongly depends on temperature. A phenomenological life prediction model was proposed to account for the influence of temperature on fatigue life and assessed by comparing with experimental result. LCF failure mechanism was investigated by observing fracture surfaces of LCF failed specimens with SEM.

  • A plate heat exchanger (PHE) normally uses vacuum brazing technology for connecting plates and fins. However, the reliability of high temperature brazing, especially with nickel-based filler metals containing boron the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds (IMCs) in brazed joints is of major concern. since they considerably degrade the mechanical properties. This research was examined the vacuum brazing of commercially SUS304 stainless steel with BNi-2 (Ni-Cr-B-Si) filler metal, and discussed to determine the influence of brazing temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical strength of brazed joints. In the metallographic analysis it is observed that considerable large area of Cr-B intermetallic compound phases at the brazing layer and the brazing tensile strength is related to removal of this brittle phase greatly. The mechanical properties of brazing layer could be stabilized through increasing the brazing temperature over $100^{\circ}C$ more than melting temperature of filler metals, and diffusing enough the brittle intermetallic compound formed in the brazing layer to the base metal.

  • With the recent increase in demand for construction there has been an increase in the use of the raw material cement when mixing concrete; managing quality of cement powder, therefore, is most important. Therefore this study sought at first to develop a rapid appraisal using the Hydrometer method researched previously, for it was thought that when suspending cement in a solution and applying the Hydrometer method to it the temperature changes in the solution would have a great effect on the density value of the Hydrometer method; yet there has been no report of such influence factors. Therefore after analyzing the influence factors that the type of suspending solution and changes in temperature could have on rapid appraisal of fineness, using the Hydrometer method, this study was able to determine that using water at 20℃ was the most appropriate, and with every temperature increase of 10℃ the value of fineness should also be increased above or below 7% as well.

  • The influence of temperature and agitation on the growth of Escherichia coli expressing hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) in stirred tank bioreactor were investigated. The highest specific growth rate for E. coli$(0.844 h^{-1})$ was achieved at a temperature of $37^{\circ}C$ and an agitation speed of 250 rpm. The activation energy for the growth of the E. coli strain W3110lQ in the stirred tank bioreactor was estimated to be 11 kcal/mol. The highest protein yield was achieved at a temperature of $44^{\circ}C$ and an agitation speed of 250 rpm. The relative protein concentration at $44^{\circ}C$ is 30 and 6% higher compared to that at 30 and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • With the increasing of urban electricity demand, making the most use of the power cable carrying capacity has become an important task in power grid system. Contrary to the rated ampacity obtained under extremely conservative conditions, this paper presents the various steady value of cable ampacity by using the changing surrounding parameters under operation, which is based on cable ampacity calculation equation under the IEC-60287 standard. To some degree, the cable ampacity analysis of actual surroundings improves the transmission capacity of cables. This paper reveals the factors that influence cable ampacity such as insulating layer thickness, allowable long-term conductor temperature, the ambient temperature, soil thermal resistance coefficient, and so on, then gives the class of the influence of these parameters on the ampacity, which plays a great role in accurately calculating the real-time ampacity and improving the utilization rate of cable in the complex external environment condition. Furthermore, the transient thermal rating of the cable is analyzed in this paper, and temperature variation of the conductor under different overload conditions is discussed, which provides effective information for the operation and control of the system.

  • This paper presents experimental results on bond-slip behavior of steel reinforced high-strength concrete (SRHC) after exposure to elevated temperatures. Three parameters were considered in this test: (a) high temperatures (i.e., 20℃, 200℃, 400℃, 600℃, 800℃); (b) concrete strength (i.e., C60, C70, C80); (c) anchorage length (i.e., 250 mm, 400 mm). A total of 17 SRHC specimens subjected to high temperatures were designed for push out test. The load-slip curves at the loading end and free end were obtained, the influence of various variation parameters on the ultimate bond strength and residual bond strength was analyzed, in addition, the influence of elevated temperatures on the invalidation mechanism was researched in details. Test results show that the shapes of load-slip curves at loading ends and free ends are similar. The ultimate bond strength and residual bond strength of SRHC decrease first and then recover partly with the temperature increasing. The bond strength is proportional to the concrete strength, and the bond strength is proportional to the anchoring length when the temperature is low, while the opposite situation occurs when the temperature is high. What's more, the bond damage of specimens with lower temperature develops earlier and faster than the specimens with higher temperature. From these experimental findings, the bond-slip constitutive formula of SRHC subjected to elevated temperatures is proposed, which fills well with test data.
