  • In this study, the simulation for performance comparison between basic single stage organic rankine cycle, multi stage reheater cycle and multi stage reheater & recuperator cycle was carried out. The multi stage reheater cycle and multi stage reheater & recuperator cycle was designed to improve the efficiency for organic rankine cycle using heat source from industrial waste heat and heat sink from deep ocean water. R245fa was selected as a refrigerant for the cycle and system efficiencies were simulated by the variation of the heat sink temperature and the cycle classification. Performance characteristics were simulated by using the Aspen HYSYS. It was confirmed that the system efficiency was decreased by the increase of heat sink temperature. These results can be considered to be applied as geo-ocean thermal energy conversion in where plenty of geothermal or ocean thermal resource exist.

  • An air-cooled ammonia/water GAX(Generator-Absorber heat eXchange) absorption cooling cycle is proposed and its performance is numerically evaluated. It is shown that the performance of the system is greatly dependent on the quality of the refrigerant leaving the evaporator. For any refrigerant concentration in the investigated range(99.1~99.9% ammonia), the cycle COP(coefficient of performance) reaches the highest value, when some amount(about 7%) of refrigerant evaporates in the refrigerant heat exchanger. Among temperature differences in various heat exchangers, the temperature difference between GAX-absorber and the GAX-generator shows the greatest effect on the system performance, whereas pressure losses cause no significant decrease in COP. The system COP increases almost linearly with increasing evaporator temperature, decreasing absorber temperature or decreasing condenser temperature. If both absorber and condenser temperature increase simultaneously, the decrease in the COP becomes larger.

  • P. glehnii, an evergreen conifer found in northern areas, is known as a cold-resistant species. In this experiment, we measured the water content, PSⅡ efficiency, chlorophyll fluorescence, pigments of the xanthophyll-cycle and activity of enzymes of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle during cold acclimation and at subsequent low-temperature conditions to examine the importance of acclimation to cold tolerance. P. glehnii showed a decrease in PSⅡ efficiency (especially in Fv) during cold acclimation and at subsequent low temperatures. However, cold-acclimated needles showed higher PSⅡ efficiency at low temperatures than nonacclimated needles. In addition, 0-YON (first-year needles) showed an increase in $\beta$-carotene and lutein, while 1-YON (one-year-old needles) immediately developed an antioxidant mechanism in the ascorbate-gluthathione cycle as soon as they were exposed to low temperature and both 0-YON and 1-YON showed increased zeaxanthin and de-epoxidation ratios at continuous low temperature. Based on our results, we suggest that P. glehnii maintain PSⅡ efficiency at low temperature by effectively protecting the photosynthetic apparatus from photo-damage by rapid induction of an antioxidant mechanism in 1-YON and dissipation of excess energy by $\beta$-carotene and lutein in 0-YON.

  • The measurements of the moderator temperature coefficient (MTC) are performed to demonstrate that the calculational model produces results that are consistent with the measurements. Since negative MTC is also a technical specification value that may limit the cycle length, it is important to measure it as accurately as possible. In this report, preferred choice of test method depending on the time in cycle, best power indication and temperature definition in MTC calculation were determined based on the MTC test results taken during initial startup testing and at 2/3 cycle burnup in the Yonggwang nuclear power plant. The results show that the ratio and rodded methods provided good agreement with the predictions during initial startup testing. However, near end-of-cycle the depletion method gives better results, and so is suggested to be used in the MTC measurements at 2/3 cycle burnup. The use of primary Delta T power as a power indicator in the MTC calculations is highly advisable since it responds with good consistent results very quickly to changes unlike secondary calorimetric power. For the appropriate temperature definitions used in the MTC calculations, it is considered that the arithmetic average temperature measured simply by inlet and outlet thermocouples is preferred. Although volumetric average temperature provides better results, the improvement is not sufficient to compensate for the simplicity of calculations by arithmetic average temperature.

  • There are several factors which are more likely to have sleep disorders in fertile women with menstruation than adult men. Menstrual cycle plays an important role in them. We describe herein the overview about the association of menstrual cycle and sleep disorders by viewing the interactions of menstrual cycle and circadian rhythm. We review how menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle by reviewing menstrual cycle and estrous cycle to understand these interactions. Menstrual cycle and estrous cycle are mainly affected by hormonal cycle and light-dark cycle, respectively and they are generally determined in monthly rhythm and annual rhythm, respectively. The determination of estrous cycle is also affected by cyclic changes of hormones besides light-dark cycle. Although sleep-wake cycle almost alternates according to estrous cycle in non-primate mammals, it is hardly affected by menstrual cycle in primate mammals as compared with estrous cycle. But menstrual cycle affects sleep-wake cycle via desynchronization of sleep-wake cycle and temperature rhythm. The decrease of amplitude and phasic change during luteal phase in the daily fluctuation of body core temperature can partially contribute to the induction of sleep disorders in fertile women. In addition to this, premenstrual syndrome which nearly happens during luteal phase commonly have sleep problems. Therefore, we suggest that menstrual cycle and PMS can partially contribute the increase of sleep disorders in fertile women.

  • Purpose : Man is a homoiothermal animal. But by various causes, body temperature can be changed to $1^{\circ}C$. Basal temperature is a very useful method in many fields of OB&GY area. So we observed the change of body temperature according to menstrual cycle. Materials and Methods : We observed 3 female who have very regular 30 days menstrual cycle. The Observation started before the onset of menstruation and body temperature was checked in the same time (11:00 am) of a day. To evaluate the change of body temperature, we examined three points of body. And to observe the body temperature we used the D.I.T.I(Dorex, Inc., USA). Results : On this study we couldn't find the typical biphasic change of body temperature but most of the materials showed the elevation of body temperature on the 14th day. Between the examined three points, the lowest point was showed more typical biphasic change of body temperature.

  • The objectives of this paper are to develop an advanced GAX cycle named HGAX (Hybrid Generator Absorber heat eXchange) cycle, and to study the effect of key pa-rameters on the cycle performance and the evaporating temperature. Two different HGAX cycles are developed-Type A (Performance improvement) and Type B (Low temperature applications). A compressor is placed between the evaporator and the absorber, and the evaporator pressure and the absorber pressure are controlled according to its application purpose. It was found that the COP could be improved by 24% compared with the conventional GAX cycle and the evaporating temperature as low as -8$0^{\circ}C$ could be obtained from the HGAX cycle.

  • A revised VX cycle using ammonia/water as the working fluid is a cycle which is suitable to produce cooling utilizing low temperature hat sources. The cycle was analyzed numerically to investigate the effects of the design and operating conditions on the performance. It was shown that both COP and cooling capacity were significantly influenced by the performance of he rectifier. Insufficient UA of the rectifier reduced both ammonia mass fraction and mass flow rate of the vapor entering the condenser, which produced cooling effect in the evaporator. As the temperature and the mass flow rate of the heat source increased, both COP and exergetic efficiency decreased due to the irreversibilities produced in heat exchangers, but cooling capacity did not vary much. Cooling capacity increased significantly as the coolant temperature decreased, although COP and exergetic efficiency remained nearly constant.

  • In this study, fatigue samples were prepared from cylinder head parts that are actually used in domestic (A) and foreign (B) automobiles; high-temperature, high-cycle, and low-cycle fatigue characteristics were then evaluated and compared. A study on the correlation between the microstructural factor and high temperature fatigue characteristic was attempted. The chemical compositions of the heat resistant aluminum alloys above represented A356 (A) and A319 (B), respectively. The result of the tensile strength test on material B at $250^{\circ}C$ was higher by 30.8MPa compared to material A. On the other hand, elongation was 8.5% higher for material A. At $130{\circ}C$, material B exhibited high fatigue life given high cycle fatigue under high stress, whereas material A showed high fatigue life when stress was lowered. With regard to the low-cycle fatigue result ($250^{\circ}C$) showing higher fatigue life as ductility is increased, material A demonstrated higher fatigue life. Through the observation of the differences in microstructure and the fatigue fracture surface, an attempt to explain the high-temperature fatigue deformation behavior of the materials was made.

  • Low-grade heats are wasted even though an amount of their energy is huge. In the small and medium industrial complex sites, large amount of low-grade thermal energy generated during the manufacturing process is wasted if it is not used directly for building heating or air-conditioning. In order to utilize this waste thermal energy more efficiently, organic Rankine cycle (ORC) was adopted. The range of operating temperature of ORC was set to $60^{\circ}C$ from $30^{\circ}C$ applicable low-temperature waste heat. A study was conducted to select an appropriate organic working fluid based on these operating conditions. More than 60 working fluids were screened. Eleven working fluids were selected based on the requirements as working fluid for ORC such as environmentally friendly, safety, and good operation on the expander. Finally, six working fluids were selected by considering the operating temperature ranges. Then, a cycle analysis was conducted with these six working fluids. As a results, R-245fa and R-134a appeared as appropriate working fluids for ORC operating at low-temperature condition based on the system efficiency and the turbine output power.
